9/725 sometimes it's the "tiniest" detail, but it completely took me out of the story that like a huge plot point - she realizes [likely] her aunt is scheming against her because her maid "discovers" A SINGLE MISSING STRAND OF HAIR. Dude. Like ... I've liked book(s) by this author before! ... but that was just ridiculously fucking stupid. And if it was a translation (or "translation" error ... then ouch. But ... as is ... no.) ~*~*~*~ Love Story of Young General and Princess
1 … no bro AYFKM “Lady Jiang Zhiyi wrinkled her nose in disgust, ready to discard the vile book, when she suddenly paused. She remembered that last month, shortly after waking up, her maid had noticed a strand of her hair was missing. The break was unusually clean, but at the time, everyone assumed it was her mischievous cat who had chewed it off. Could it be that her hair had been stolen for some sinister purpose?”
A SINGLE STRAND?!

I liked how the story started light hearted and gradually "darkened" (its not a dark story but idk a better word to describe it) along with how Jiang Zhiyi's character gradually revealed its inner depths. This story squeezed a lot of tears out of me (mostly from the extras) which was a welcome surprise. I liked how the side characters don't fall into their usual archetypes, for example the Pei siblings.
However I would've enjoyed more depth to the side characters. Like Jiang Zhiyi's uncle. Does he ever feel conflicted between his love for his niece vs his blood related son? Jiang Zhiyi mentions not wanting to cause a trouble by full on fighting with her cousin but her uncle doesn't seem to care about his son as much as his niece.
