Walter Bowart (1939 - 2007) was a journalist and a prominent figure in the New York City counter-culture of the 1960s. He was influential in promoting intellectual freedom through his work as editor of "The East Village Other" and through his Freedom of Thought Foundation.
Bowart's "Operation Mind The Cryptocracy's Plan to Psychocivilize You (Expanded Researcher's Edition)" is a classic in the annals of conspiracy research. It is a disturbing account of the secret use of mind control technology, by a secret government (or "cryptocracy"), with an aim to pacifying whole populations and furthering private global-investment strategies. Meticulously researched and well-written, it remains - even today - one of the best books on the topic.
The original version of "Operation Mind Control" was the first book printed in the United States to explore the murky world of CIA mind control. This theme is common in Hollywood movies today but, at the time (1978), the topic was highly charged, top-secret, and extremely dangerous to research. The book quickly disappeared, because the CIA did not want the public to know the extent and details of its mind control programs (they actually bought up all of the copies that had been printed - an entire warehouse full).
The book also began vanishing from libraries across the nation, and virtually every copy available in bookstores disappeared. Very few copies survived this purge. Those that remained became quite rare and expensive.
In 1994, Bowart added several more chapters to the original book, which had focused primarily on the use of hypnosis and drugs (especially LSD variants) to create mind-controlled assassins. This additional material, which effectively doubled the book's size to almost 700 pages, explores even stranger aspects of mind control, such as the use of "paranormal" memes like "alien abduction" and "missing time." After writing the researcher's edition, Bowart retreated from the scene, having supposedly been threatened by Men in Black with "termination with extreme prejudice."
This special 2015 reprint includes a Foreword by Richard Condon, author of "The Manchurian Candidate."
It's important to know that the term "conspiracy theorist" was introduced by the very same people who were in the act of committing conspiracy. It became popularized during the time that the United States government, specifically the CIA or the "cryptocracy", actually began conducting top secret mind control experiments and operations during the 1950's and 1960's. The people who called out the government on their secret experiments and abuses were derided and labeled as conspiracy theorists.
Project MKUltra, now commonly known to the public, was just one of these top secret operations conducted by the CIA. We now know, and the CIA has admitted thanks in part to Freedom of Information Act, that these operations were in fact carried out, were illegal, and involved brainwashing, sexual abuse, and physical and psychological torture. All this forms the basis of this book.
This book should be read with an open mind but with caution. Much of the content here horrifying. A lot of it has been proven to be true and some of it may or may not be true, which is acknowledged by the author. Overall it is fascinating.
This is a crazy book. Obviously not all of it is true, the author even says this at the start, and there as a certain amount of quotes from mentally deranged people. However, it attempts to be a unifying conspiracy that links many of the others. As such almost all popular conspiracies are mentioned.
What is interesting is that the more you read of these kinds of books the more feel you have in discerning new conspiracy theories and people who are interested in them because some of the stories go way back.
e.g. In the sixties, governments would have loved to have had devices that manipulate people's opinions and track their locations at all time and they may even have researched into the technology required. However, the miniaturisation and battery technology was not sufficiently advanced to create something that could be implanted in someone's body. That's crazy talk. However, now we all carry such devices in our pockets so the end goal has been achieved and it is not unlikely that governments do take full advantage of this.
I listened to this over a month of walks and it was pretty entertaining at times.
This book became a classic, and it became a kind of hype regarding such issues, it clearly became an important asset for the conspiracy theory that was looming.
This book is a hidden gem in the category. It consists of so much information I’ve had to go back and reread after listening to other books.
If any of the books I’m about to list caught your attention odds are that this book has a chapter. Chaos, The Ultimate Evil, Programmed to Kill, A Lie to Big to Fail, Tranceformation, Waco, Jonestown.
The author was married to Peggy Melon Hitchcock and had access to Millbrook estate where the Mind Control experiments became reality with Leary, Ram Dass and Kinsey.
