The galaxy's most reluctant hero is back—and this time, trouble's got his home address.
Dalton Thorne just wanted his cargo ship back. Maybe a bowl of noodles. Definitely some peace and quiet on humanity's newly liberated fragment of Earth. But when Little Earth's miraculous transformation starts turning deadly, he discovers that saving the world was the easy part. Now he has to survive in it.
Which would be a lot easier if a faction of powerful beings known as Chi Hunters weren’t hell bent on hunting him down.
On the run and armed with antique weapons, half-cooked “plans,” and a stolen spacecraft that smells like death warmed over, Dalton must race to find his lost ship before the wrong people find him first. But in a universe where dragons are real, planets can vanish, and the line between hero and wanted fugitive is drawn in disappearing ink, the mission is a lot easier said than done.Adrift, on the run, and in way over his head, some beacons are meant to guide you home. Others are meant to lure you to your doom.
And Captain Dalton Thorne can never tell the difference.
The irreverent sci-fi adventure continues with twice the snark, three-point-five times the danger, and absolutely zero improvement in Dalton's decision-making skills. Perfect for fans of space opera with an 80’s action movie vibe, reluctant heroes who complain their way to victory, and anyone who thinks the galaxy could use more sarcasm per square parsec.
Fun and entertaining! I had a great time reading this second instalment by Jason Anspach and JN Chaney. The MC as snarky as ever, big mouthed in the worst moments of deadly fights. Another fantastic series in the Chaneyverse. Can’t wait for book-3 to release.
I don't know if it's worse to be Dalton or one of his friends, getting sucked into the vortex of change going on in their universe. It seems his friends are truly behind him. And his enemies are relentless. Gonna be interesting.
Chi Hunters search for Dalton as he searches for his ship....
Little Earth has been transported somewhere else than Euphoria. The usual power grabs you've come to expect from humans start to cause unrest and Dalton seeks to learn more about his potential and ultimately strives to get his ship back. His potential leads him to being chased by Chi Hunters, as well as the usual Consortium and we end on an intriguing cliff hanger.... There is intrigue, suspense, space ship building, xenophobia, "magic" (or rather Chi and dimensional manipulation), brain washing, fighting, deus ex machina (which Dalton even comments in), noodles, doublecrossing, pirates, a missing pop planet and a large bounty in this entertaining tale that leaves you keen to find out what happens next.
The story moves along at glacial speeds one minute, then the speed of light the next and keeps doing this for.most.of the book Overall it's a good book but the variations in pace spoiled it for me Dalton does his usual thing of being the reluctant good guy, with a mouth that would get Gandhi into trouble and yet still manages to come out on top, for the most part The Chi Hunters make an entry and are likely to become a major component to the future storyline and yet Dalton has their measure, mostly. Book 3 should be good, a consistent pace would be great
The universe may choose, but exactly what is always the mystery. Interesting read so much so that I’m sending the series to my son and his friends in prison. You all have visited many times in many books, but real people are abandoned there in this universe, and great diversions and other places are welcome to those stuck in 8’ by 10’ rooms 23.5 hours a day. I say this series has been both. A Great Escape and Interesting Places.
The dialogue is pure agony. As the "hero" of the story stumbles from one catastrophe to the next spewing nonsensical one liners his cohorts blindly follow. Not going to ramble on about how bad this book really is. Suffice it to say any literary integrity vanished after page 6.
I have really enjoyed the first two books of this series. The have great action, characters, and humor. Congrats to Chaney and Anspack on this collaboration!
I started this story in a whim looking for something to read. The first book was great pulled me in. This book was an awesome follow-up. I am now vested in this story. Totally enjoying it. If your looking for a good read. I recommend it.
Better than the first one, but still too much repetition and endless fight scenes that feel like someone narrating video game. Characterization has improved. Some humor thrown in well at times, tritely at times.
