Jean Dufaux is a Belgian comic book writer. Beginning his professional career as a journalist for "Ciné-presse", Dufaux started writing comic books in the 1980s. Perhaps his most well-known, and certainly his most long-running, series is Jessica Blandy.
In my humble opinion, the script of this second cycle of the Ballad of the Lost Moors series wasn't as strong as the one for the first cycle, but in compensation it was stronger on two other aspects.
First. the art, which was much better-looking, more gorgeous and exquisite to my taste than in the first cycle. And second: the ending, much more optimally executed, less abrupt and more satisfying if bittersweet and melancholy in tone. Unlike the first cycle, this one doesn't start as strong but it does end strongly. It also does a good job of explaining the background of the storyline in Cycle I, although I'd have wanted the plot to be linear for the whole series, as telling it backwards results in the reader knowing what'll come next, which in turn sort of makes this a bit more predictable. However, despite the predictability factor, Dufaux still managed to surprise me a few times, like with the identity of the Guinea Lord and who the last Sudenne heiress that escapes the massacre of the royal line might truly be.
All in all, a highly recommended Fantasy series for lovers of the genre and of mythology, for this one still keeps a lot of its Celtic flavour from the original cycle.
