I got knocked into a campus fountain by a naked hockey player on my first week of college.
It only got worse from there. Scotty Hendricks is Covey U's golden Hockey Star, Reality TV Royalty, and the reason there's a dorm building named after his family. He's charming, cocky, and used to the spotlight. I want nothing to do with any of it. But after our spectacularly humiliating first meeting, the universe decides we're stuck together on an assignment, and somehow, Scotty makes it his personal mission to get under my skin... and straight into my life. The problem? Beneath the confidence and cameras is a guy who doesn't want to be famous, and beneath my determination to keep my head down is a want I've worked very hard to ignore. Getting involved with him would mean risking my privacy, my plans, and everything I'm trying to build for myself. Getting over him might be even harder.
The Secret Assist is a spicy, chaotic college hockey romcom featuring accidental nudity, reality TV drama, meddling teammates, forced proximity, and a hero who falls first and harder.

I can’t begin to explain how much I loved this book! The story itself was so relatable from both Scotty and Laura’s side of life and seeing them grow as individuals and together was so fun and heartwarming to read. I love that no matter what Scotty was always there for Laura even when she felt like she didn’t deserve it. I loved watching Laura get her confidence built and grow into the person she was meant to be. It felt like I knew these characters personally and I just wanted them to be happy together so bad! I can’t say enough amazing things about this book and Ana will always be one of my favorite authors; anything she writes I will absolutely devour. I can’t wait to read more from her!! 💜

The Secret Assist is the newest book in the Covey Crushers series by Ana Shay.
The gang is back and what an adventure they have in store for us.
The Secret Assist follows Laura and Scotty. They may seem like they are from two different worlds. But when those two worlds collide the fire works from it are stunning.
Scotty has a crush on Laura but Laura doesn't even know Scotty exists. Till one day when the hockey team’s hazing of there newest team members goes a little off course. Laura is sitting beside the water fountain when something comes flying at her and hits in the face with his extra large hoagie 😏. Her fave book gets destroyed in process. Afterwards Scotty apologises so so much and even promises to replace her book. But she is very annoyed. Now this is one meet cute you won't forget.
Poor Scotty, this isn't how he expects his first interaction with his crush to go. Scotty has his work cut out for him. It’s not an easy path but our man Scotty is the right man for the job. And yes, he does replace her fave book. He does one better and doesn’t just get any book he gets a signed copy.
These two have a great connection, amazing chemistry, banter that will have you kicking your feet, there's tension, its emotional, and the locker room scene with the glove 🥵🥵 you guys are not ready.
Strap yourselves in. The next hockey romance you have been looking for has arrived. Check out Ana's newest book The Secret Assist.

“I came here because… when I'm around you, it feels like I'm allowed to be myself.
“You know,” I say, aiming for casual and landing somewhere closer to breathless, “I never thought I’d see the day King Scotty would be on his knees for someone.” “I’d get on my knees for you anytime, Princess,” he says, his voice so low it rumbles down my spine. “All you have to do is ask.”
“I coach, Princess. I like feedback, and if I’m not making a girl fight to keep quiet…” His eyes drop to my mouth. “Then I’m not doing my job.”
Oh how I love Ana Shay's books and being back in the Covey Crushers world was purely magical.
This was a fantastic piece of escapism. We have been waiting for Scotty and Laura's story for some time and it did not disappoint.
Scotty has been captivated by Laura ever since he first laid eyes on her. But things do not go to plan when he has the most embarrassing encounter with her. Still he tries his luck and again things go very wrong.
But a year later when he sees her struggling on the ice he decides this is the time for him to step in and assist. Laura is trying hard for an audition that requires her to skate and sing. The singing part is not a problem but the skating part is problematic.
This is where the relationship really starts to develop. Ana executed perfectly Laura's insecurities and vulnerabilities through her inner monologues. I could really relate to the feelings of failure and could sympathise with Laura on every level. She was so relatable to me.
And Scotty was just the perfect golden retriever. He was absolutely smitten with her and showed her time and time again why he was the guy for her. They had a really great relationship once Laura let her guard down.
I loved that Scotty always saw her talent and he was absolutely content to let her shine and be by her side. He had spent his whole life in the spotlight so was more than happy to support and this was such a heartwarming side of the story.
I really loved these two. There were real princess vibes and nods to literature that I ate up. It kept me turning the pages way past midnight.
As always with Ana's books there was drama and shenanigans which provided me with a joyful reading experience and left me with a big smile on my face.
Another fabulous read from an author that just keeps on delivering.
“Princess, you could be singing the alphabet, and I'd still be waiting for the next letter like it was a cliffhanger.”
Scotty and Laura have a hilarious meet cute and he is an instant goner. After being paired up for a school project together they both develop feelings and share a kiss. The next day everything falls to pieces and she doesn’t want to talk to him ever again. After a year of achieving that she needs help and he is the perfect teacher. Will she now listen to him and fall back in love with him?
Oh Scotty you sweet, sweet man 🥹 Even when Laura doesn’t want to talk to him he still repairs her porch!! He uses the little free time he has to help her, because that is the only time she’ll talk to him. He really is smitten with her and will do anything to help her, build her confidence and praise her to EVERYONE he knows. He is the kind of man one needs in her life. I totally understand Laura not wanting to talk to him anymore, but I wouldn’t have been able to not talk to him, I would’ve caved instantly. But she also wasn’t immune to his charm and fell even harder than me for Scotty! 🫶🏻 We see some familiar faces again, which I absolutely loved. So if you’ve read some of Ana’s books, you are definitely in for a treat! I hope to see more of these two in the future and can’t wait to see who will get their happily ever after next!
While reading you will be smiling and kicking your feet! 🤍
This is my first book by Ana Shay. Laura and Scotty are having their second chance at romance a year later. I loved the antics of the group as a whole, the love and trust they all have in each other.
A different approach to the second chance as you really get to fall in love with the couple the first time and are already rooting for them when their second chance comes along. Can’t wait to read more!
Loved Scotty and Laura’s story!! I loved seeing both characters development grow and learn of themselves throughout the book. Especially Laura and how much she grew.
