Painter's Obsession: Volume I

"MM EROTIC HORROR"
Static White EROTIC HORROR

Dual Pov

I wasn’t supposed to feel this way about him... the man dating my sister. But no matter how much I try to focus on other women, my mind keeps circling back to him. It started as unease, an itch I couldn’t scratch, a feeling that there was something off about him. Then it grew... an obsession I couldn’t control.

Secrets aren’t meant to come into the light, and monsters should stay under the bed. I thought I was smart enough to keep my distance, but with him, logic vanishes. There’s no sense—only madness.

The deeper I dig, the darker it gets. He’s not just a man with secrets...he’s something much worse. And I’ve made one fatal mistake...stepping into his world.

Now, it’s not just about uncovering the truth. It’s about surviving it.

THIS IS NOT A ROMANCE.... THIS IS STOCKHOLM... TOXIC WITH AN UNCONVENTIONAL HAPPY ENDING.. THIS IS MORE OF PSYCHOLOGICAL EROTIC HORROR.

4.5 stars rounded up to 5 stars. I live the fact it was categorised right and clear warnings that this is not a romance. It was dark, gritty and psychological. not as dark as I expected but still depraved and intense read. hope Volume II comes out soon to buy.

This book is a pitch black wild ride! If you want in the mind of a true psychopath this is the book!

This is an MM erotic horror, this is not a romance, and is the definition of Stockholm syndrome.

Byron has always knows he’s had feelings towards men, but it was frowned upon and he faced serious consequences as a child for not conforming to his father’s beliefs. His only light in the dark is his sister Gabriella. After Byron goes to prison for selling drugs, he takes comfort in his cell mate, but can he continue to deny who he is when he’s released. Or will he keep thinking about his lawyer, Ren.

After losing his father to suicide, Ren is left with his mother, his soul purpose was to please her. After becoming pregnant, he can’t handle it and ends their lives. Ren’s emotions are a void, his only release is creating art with his victims, the Laguna Bay painter. When women keep going missing from the local area Byron is on high alert, and something seems off with Gabriella’s new man, but does he sense a red flag or does he just desire him….Ren doesn’t want Gabriella, he just needs the rose to break the thorn.

This book had me on the edge of my seat, just when I thought it couldn’t get any crazier it absolutely did! Some of the things that happened in this book left my jaw on the floor! If you are looking for a pitch black book with an ending that leaves you gasping this is the book for you!

Thank you so much to Luna K Wicked for allowing me to read this pitch black masterpiece pre-release in exchange for my honest review

Please read the trigger warnings with this one. I don’t usually advise this with my reviews but so much of the intimate scenes were non con and that needs to be highlighted.

I’ll be honest I knew this was going to be dark and Luna doesn’t hold back on all the gory details and her descriptions were haunting.

This is not your usual dark romance novel, I would say there isn’t any romance to it at all. It’s dark, gruesome and there is no HEA where the main characters ride away into the sunset.

I will say I went into this thinking it was MM (which is how the book was marketed). While there is MM it should be said that MF is also very prominent and I probably wouldn’t have read this if I’d known that. If I am being completely honest the MM aspect was minimal compared to the MF in the book. I really don’t think this should have been marketed as MM.

I’m in the minority with my review and that’s fine. We all have different tastes and this just wasn’t for me.

I received an arc of Painters Obsession in exchange for an honest review.

Another brilliant and bloody story by my depraved queen, Luna! The details and imagery in this story are horrifying, yet so beautiful. This MM story is not for the faint of heart, and that's just how I like it. Love? Romance? Leave that ish at the door because that is not what Ren and Byron's story contains. This is an extreme case of Stockholm syndrome along with a rude bisexual awakening. As always, you better check those trigger warnings and read them twice, your mental health matters most.

Ren is a psychopath through and through, there can be no redemption for him, and even he knows this to be true. His obsession with his art is one thing, but the mixed feelings he has for the Thorn is another distraction entirely.

Byron, oh my sweet, poor baby, Byron. I really empathized and related to him, and his internal struggles with his sexuality, so very much. He is such a unique and complex character. The abuse he endured by his father really left a lingering mark on his soul, and he finds it hard to move forward to find happiness. His love for his sister is evident and he really would do anything for her which was so heartwarming, truthfully. There is nothing like a bond shared between siblings.

The Thorn must be plucked from its Rose before they can succumb into darkness. If the Rose withers while the Thorn is still attached, then all light will be extinguished, leaving no further masterpieces to grace his canvas. One cannot exist without the other.

LUNA! That motherfucking ending had me screaming. What an epic finale! I'm so excited to see how you continue this story, it has been my favorite by far!

This book was AMAZING and I could NOT put it down! I haven't read a good horror (non-romance) book in awhile, probably since I used to read Stephen King all the time. I loved that the two POVs Wicked included were the victim and the villain...especially considering this villain was not "morally grey" whatsoever, he's just all BAD. I was on the edge of my seat from the first chapter. It's very mysterious and had me asking so many questions that I NEEDED answers to. There were many VERY dark and gory parts, so make sure you check the trigger warnings before you read. If you enjoy a good horror book (especially if you're a Stephen King or Lauren Biel fan), you NEED to read this!

I honestly felt like I was catfished by the TWs. I went from this to Claustrophilia at the recommendation of a friend because I felt let down.

I constantly wanted more from Ren. More of the triggers that specified this was an erotic horror, or a MM book for that matter. I felt catfished on that too. There was very little interaction between the two of them and ALOT of MF interactions for a book marketed as MM.

None of this is to say that it’s not dark, it does have dark elements. It’s just not…for me I guess. I’m clearly in the minority here.

Also, why is Ren constantly peeing on everyone.

Let me start off by saying I loved the plot line of this book. It was basically a criminal minds episode and I love that. I never wanted to put the book down, needing to know what was going to happen next. This grandma literally stayed up past her bedtime to finish it.

When reading books within the erotica genre, I tend to go in not expecting much and just needing a mindless read. This one was no different, but I did pick up on a few things that just kind of had me tilting my head to the side.

I also found it very repetitive at times. I’m no man, nor do I know the ins and outs of a man’s anatomy and I understand this is fiction, but I do think Ren might need to see a doctor with the amount of times his dick grew hard and strained against his pants. Aside from that, there was also a couple times within a few paragraphs of each other the same sentence was used, but the placement of the words were changed. It just made it seem like I said, repetitive.

Last note:
This is marketed as a MM depraved erotic horror. While yes, there is MM with both of the MC’s being Bi-sexual or gay, I do feel like the story is predominantly MF. Especially the first half.

Now, despite all of that, like I said, I did still enjoy the book because the story line itself had me hooked, even with some of the plot holes. It’s good for a vibe read, i may or may not read the second book. We’ll see! But definitely an easy spooky season read, just please check trigger warnings. tysm.

The repetitiveness makes this book so hard to read. Very frustrating. If I have to hear one more time how Byron’s body betrays him…literally find a thesaurus. This book is also marketed as MM which is definitely is not.

woah. all i can honestly say rn is woah. this was my first ever luna book and just... wow! this book played out like the most deliciously venomous criminal minds episode.. it was dark. it was erotic. but it was most definitely NOT a romance so do not go in expecting love and sunshine! i don't even think the word dark explains Ren enough.. he was sordid and twisted and so devoid of anything. just a dark mass. a black hole if you must. so why did i love him sm and root for his debauchery??? and Byron???? i'm so sorry to that man but i was rooting for his downfall cos it meant Ren's come up 🤭🤭🤭 UGH please take the warning very seriously, and if you're messed up in the head like myself?? enjoy every minute of this vile masterpiece😉

Update, I received the audiobook for this and omg it felt even better to read this time around with how amazing the narrators did and how they actually had me sympathizing even though I wasn’t supposed to 🤣

Luna was not messing around with this book, she really said let’s make it DARK DARK. I freaking love this book and got to respect Ren no matter how much I hate him 😅 but please check your tws because this one is not a romance and I can’t say the mmc has any redeeming qualities but that’s why I respect him 🤣

🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ (pitch black spice)

This is the darkest thing I’ve ever read—like genuinely had me questioning my sanity, my morals, and whether I should be concerned about how much I enjoyed this. I devoured it.

Luna K. Wicked didn’t write a story. She crafted an experience. Erotic horror dripping with gore, obsession, depravity, and artistry so twisted it somehow loops back around to being breathtaking. I LOVED IT. Ate every blood-soaked page without hesitation.

This is NOT romance. Not even remotely.
But Byron and Ren? My pet. My art. My muse.
Their dynamic is violent, hateful, lust-fueled, and psychologically wrecked… and yet I couldn’t look away. Ren Sato might be the most unhinged MMC I’ve ever read, and Byron’s character 🥺 Absolutely shattered me. Two broken monsters orbiting each other in the dark and dragging me right down with them.

🎧And LISTEN TO ME because this is important:
I received the ALC from Blue Nose, and if you’re planning to read this with your eyes only… STOP 🛑
You need this in your ears.

Joe Arden, Corvin King, and Mia Moreno absolutely killed this audiobook. Like… full body chills. They didn’t narrate—they performed. One of the best audiobook experiences I’ve ever had. Bravo to all three of them. 👏🏻

🌶️ As for the spice? Baby, this isn’t spice.
This is brutality. Power. Pain. Kink woven into gore and terror. If you’re not into extreme darkness, run.
If you ARE??? Welcome to heaven/hell. Same address.

It was ok. It kept me intrigued and not want to DNF!

Note to the author:

1. This really is not MM romance. The “MM” is very minimal!

2. In the description and the trigger warnings it’s says it’s an “unconventional HEA”. Ummm, how? There was not an HEA at all! In fact it ended on a cliffhanger and the description for the next book says there is NO HEA! So don’t advertise this as an HEA unconventional or otherwise.

3. This was not “Stockholm Syndrome”. Like at all! With Stockholm syndrome, the victim develops feelings for the kidnapper! Byron did no such thing!

4. There were a lot of inconsistencies such as in the earlier chapters in Byron’s pov he states that he never had sex with his cell mate, but later in the book he was remembering how he let his cell mate “push into” him. There was a lot of spelling and grammatical errors as well. This needed a better editor.

First off, this isn’t MM. It’s MF. All the spice scenes I remember are MF. Not what I want when I’m promised MM.

Spoilers ahead since I can’t review without them.

This is not dark. I mean…it’s dark for the average person, but when I am promised dark and depraved, I have high expectations. This was barely horror, and had absolutely no Stockholm Syndrome like I was promised. Too many lady bits for an MM. Gab was annoying and I wish she had had a different fate because the ending sucked. It didn’t even suck toes, it just sucked. That’s not a Stockholm ending, it was a poor ending, set up like something could follow, but what? There was no Stockholm to explain why Byron would even want a Ren reappearance. Ren is his nightmare fuel, not his wet dream (which he should be if you’re claiming Stockholm).

Ren talked about seeing the dark in Byron, which was never brought up in Byron’s own chapters. The darkness is nothing more than just him being gay because apparently that’s the message we wanna send? He was abused as a kid, but it’s clear the author doesn’t really understand how twisted that type of abuse can make you, especially when deprived of being who you are. I expected more of B hiding these murderous urges, unable to act on them like Ren does, but nahhhhhh, he’s just gay. There’s so much there the author could’ve done with but instead it’s just a closeted man who doesn’t want out of the closet for the entire book.

Ren wasn’t that twisted, he was just your run of the mill CSA-serial killer with mommy issues, which doesn’t help explain his attraction to B at all, like the man exclusively kills women and suddenly he wants B for his shadows??? What shadows? The attraction/obsession was just never explained well at all. I had a hard time believing that Ren wanted B. The logic wasn’t there for me. B was clearly attracted to Ren, but like, he didn’t recognize Ren as the lawyer that visited him and gave him the ick?

Byron wasn’t even an ounce in Stockholm with Ren and that made me sad. Like, that’s a fave of mine so if you’re going to claim it’s in a book, please put it in the book.

The ending came abruptly and horribly. What was that? Byron, who is still hoping for escape at this point (not Stockholm) is rescued by Gab who just randomly decided to show up. Not much of a confrontation to find out why Ren took B instead of her, girl just grabs a gun, shoots at Ren and saves her brother like the strong female character she is, because she finds them running around outside (again as Byron is trying to ESCAPE). Please.

Where is the Stockholm? Byron shouldn’t have been trying to escape at this point, he should have been worried about Ren and trying to keep Gab away. This ending was vastly different in my head and inconsistent with what the author warned. I figured Ren would off Gab in front of B and B would be like “oh wow a weight has been lifted from my shoulders and now I can live my happy gay man life with this handsome man who is so obsessed with me that he kidnapped me and if that’s not love then I don’t know what is!”

That’s what I wanted.

I will not be reading part 2, as I don’t see the need for it. I hated all the characters and their thought processes. But what killed me the most was all the MF sex. So much MF that I am severely convinced the author didn’t want to actually write an MM story. Because they didn’t. B fucks the army-wife neighbor way too much.

Title: Painter’s Obsession

Author: Luna K. Wicked

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5

Length: 291 pages

Genre: Horror Erotica

Tropes: MM Dark Dark DARK “romance”, Obsessed MMC, Dual POV, Sister’s Boyfriend… kinda, Touch him/her and 💀

Triggers: A full list if available with the book. Here are the main ones… Biphobia/homophobia, body horror/torture, child abuse (physical and SA), Confinement/Kidnapping, Death, Emotional/Physical/psychological abuse, SA, Blood, Excrement, medical content, 💀 of a parent, unaliving, outing, gaslighting, injury/injury detail (forced piercing), 🩸play, degradation

My thoughts:

Painter’s Obsession by Luna K. Wicked is a book that will stick with you long after you finish it! It is a wild ride, but please go into it understand that it is NOT a dark romance!! Painter’s Obsession is horror erotica with a whisper of maybe some romance.

Both Ren and Byron were dealt cruddy hands in life as children, but both dealt with their trauma in similar but different ways. Byron was physically abused by his machismo Latino father for being interested in boys and made to feel ashamed of himself. Ren’s father committed suicide, prompting his mentally ill mother to SA him from then on. Where Byron internalized his trauma, only hurting himself to try and make a better life for his sister, Ren used his trauma to hurt others. Cultivating a garden of “flowers” to hurt and destroy to feel anything. Ren becomes obsessed with Byron, and instead of this obsession growing into love to better both men, it leads to a truly traumatic series of events for Byron and his sister.

And that ending!! Luna really outdid herself with this ending!! My jaw was on the floor for a good 10 minutes after I finished it as I tried to collect my thoughts!

Please DO NOT GET ME WRONG!! I thoroughly enjoyed Painter’s Obsession, but I went in understanding that this was more horror than romance and came at it from that perspective. This is the main reason as to why I did not give Painter’s Obsession a spice rating because, although there is spice, almost all of it is because of sexual violence done against the characters will or is dubious at best. Although the spice was spicy, it did not give me that GDLT (Good Down Low Tickle) while I read it.

Overall, I think that if you go into Painter’s Obsession understanding that it is high on the Dark Horror Erotica and lower on the romance, you will have a goo time!! As always with books like this, CHECK THE TRIGGER WARNINGS and go in with an open mind if they don’t scare you away!! Your mental health matters!!

Oh my gosh I loved this so freaking much.
It all starts with the dedication that really sets the tone and draws you in. Then, there are so many questions created in a short space of time but each question gets answered in its own time, which I love. You were drip fed each answer craving for more but denied until the author felt you were ready for it which is perfect for this book. Now let's talk about Ren, in my mind he was so much like Mads Mikkelsen's portrayal of Hannibal Lector, but without his diet. He is very very good at being a wolf in sheep's clothing, so very clever at the cat and mouse and wears the perfect disguise to hide his depravity. I know this book is listed as taboo er*tica but in my head I was seeing it like some of my favorite thrillers, but without the cops. It was so cerebral and so fascinating. Both of the MMCs had such a tragic backstory but the difference between the two is so poignant. I absolutely loved the dual POV, being able to see not only how his warped and twisted mind works but also the POV of the other main male in the story, Byron. Byron is broken and angry because of his past, so much rage but no outlet. I loved the bond he has with his sister and how it is a touch her and d*e but sibling edition. He is so fiercely protective of his family and I loved that about him. The ending looked like it was wrapping up neatly with a bow and then you get hit with a plot twist and cliffhanger that makes your jaw drop. I am really hoping this story is not over yet after that as I need more, I need to know what happens next.
I would advise reading the trigger warnings before reading this as there are a lot of potential triggers as this book is dark and twisted and depraved but in the best way, so as long as you don't mind the triggers, I highly recommend reading this book. It is now one of my favorites 😍💜

Besides the various spelling mistakes, this book was just not a fav. I was excited by the fact that this is one of the first darker books where the main couple is LGBT. And while I have nothing against darker topics, I just think the execution of it in this case was not as good as it was supposed to be. Ren was a deplorable character, which I assume was the point. But beyond being a terrible murderer, the dude was just so fucking cringy. Like “I am death”?? Bitch, stfu you’re so annoying. Every time he speaks it’s like okay we get it you’re edgy. I also think this book just tried to do too many things at once. We have Byron going to prison, he’s got the failed relationship with Sandra, their father dying, Gabriela, their mom dying. We got Ren and his mother, he’s a murderer who only targets women but for some reason becomes so obsessed with a man and that’s barely spoken about. There’s so much I don’t understand about these characters and there’s several instances where the storytelling just takes me out. Plot holes and contradictions left and right.

my pet. my art. my muse.

wow is literally all i can say... erotic horror? gripping? SO MUCH GORE? i didn't think i would like this,i lied,i didn't like it.. i loved it.

i ate every single ounce of this story up,never have i ever finished a story in a day that had over 300 pages,my first read of may and damn, what a way to start my horror journey, luna has a way with words,a way of showing you darkness, depravity and fucked up shit and then spinning it and making it beautiful. seriously this story although all the way fucked up,is beautiful, from beginning to end i was on the edge of my seat, the descriptions, the inclusions of the formatting, the inclusion of music during the scenes... by far the most immersive experience i have had reading such a dark book. not a romance. not even remotely built on any kind of love. yet somehow byron & ren have categorically one of my favourite realtionship,a story built on hatred,on lust but also on self acceptance. and that. is beautiful.

a story of sheer and utter depravity from start to finish, characters that can be unredeemable. a MMC so unhinged he makes you truly question,do i love him or do i hate him? even the lines were blurring for me,like he is the villian or am i in love with this bat shit crazy man? it is def the latter for me,although i will not share spoilers, the two MMC's are so different, yet so similar.. so powerful, yet so vulnerable,it's impossible to explain but the character development of byron is by far my favourite of the story,my heart broke for him,but at the same time, the fight never left him,the same goes for ren.. broken characters, joined by darkness is all i can say. and they showed me how beautiful that darkness is.

this isn't my first of luna's books (defintely not the last either!) and i was lucky enough to snag volume 2 early so i'll be hopping on over like my life depends on it and coming back, but i am still in shock at the cliffhanger, the skill for writing that luna possess is beautiful, something about her writing i think will be up there with one of my favourites, her style, her pacing, her descriptive ways with words, honestly she ticks all the boxes for me.

i can rate this but i think it's obvious from me so far but let's do it anyways!🫀

characters? 5⭐️ the development of these characters is my favourite, byron has such a strong role throughout, gabriella although not a main character to me personally, she played such a vital part in the story and her fight, her strong presence was so perfect in addition to the boys. she added so much to the story. & ren?? ren mf sato. i would let that man do anything to me,the most psychotic depraved mmc i think ive ever read, yet somehow under the tough exterior, luna makes you love him,you know the author is really good when they make you love the villian🙂‍↔️

plot? 5⭐️ the longest book ive ever read in a while, aswell as the most plot heavy, but i can categorically say for me,as somebody who LOVES plot heavy books, luna smashed it,a juicy plot with incredible details, all the details lined up,the fit perfectly in with the depravity, with the spice,we got the look into the boys that we needed. this story is built on plot and i absoultely loved it,the pacing is perfect,a slower burn but honestly without saying too much, the slower side is needed for the story,it works that way and luna wrote it so we almost feel as we have to have the patience within this story even as a reader.

spice? 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ she is spicy, but not in a conventional sense and if you are not down for power imbalances, for bdsm ish elements, for pure utter pain,🩸 and the sheer sex is not for pleasure kind of vibe, you'll be shocked! but if you are, like me hehe, then the spice is perfect,it has gore elements,it has power imbalances,it has M/F as well as brutal MM scenes, truly as far as horror goes,horrifying.. but like i guess im good horrified because i loved it,the spice for me is so gripping and plays such a part in the character development without being front and centre like it is in some MM books,it shows what brutality, force and strength can become in a sexual dynamic between two people,i easily would read the spice in this alone over and over again, its just perfect!!

gore? 🩸🩸🩸 my new rating for erotic horrors hehe, but very gorey, graphic descriptions of gore in sexual and non sexual senses, brutal scenes almost have you going green, but yet still a gore level that like i said before, its crucial to the story,it really puts a spotlight on erotic horror and what it is as a whole,it shows you truly how depraved it can be,it's perfect! i ate it up,and left no crumbs heheh

overall? 5⭐️ up there with a favourite book when you're feeling just depravity, raw, unfiltered dark shit to be honest,it's taboo in so many aspects,it's authentically as it stands as erotic horror, not an ounce of romance or love anywhere to be found but when i tell you, luna has put me on to a new genre and im in love with her writing, any books luna writes like this, you can bet your 🍑 i will be diving straight in first in line!!
i have so many fave quotes but they're spoilers but the top line, that is the one that stuck out to me,not spoiling or even detailed enough but to make you intrigued, the minute i read that line,my face resembled this 🫢

to finish, please read your tw's for this one,she is DARK and i mean really f-ing DARK,this defintely won't be for everyone but if you're like me,you may end up loving it🥹

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ABSOLUTELY. UNHINGED. PERFECTION.

I honestly don’t even know where to begin because I am completely blown away by the absolute masterpiece Luna has created.

> “There’s no room for thought, no space for denial—just the raw, undeniable truth. I want this. I want him.”

I’ve never read an MM story before, and I won’t lie—I was nervous about whether it would be for me. But oh my god, I am SO glad I took the leap. Luna didn’t just exceed my expectations… she obliterated them.

> “Has he not been paying attention? Emotions mean nothing. They’re fragile, fleeting things, unable to touch the void inside me.”

Luna is a master of her craft, and it shows on every page. This book dragged me through every emotion imaginable—rage, heartbreak, fear, craving, shock, that “bang my head against the wall because WHAT just happened?!” kind of chaos.

> “Being with me means that. Only darkness. That’s all I can give.”

Ren owns a piece of my pitch-black heart forever, monster or not. Thank you, Luna, for letting me step into his void of a world. 🖤 This story is a pitch-black, psychological, stomach-dropping wild ride. If you want to crawl into the mind of a true psychopath? This is your book.

This is MM erotic horror. Not romance. Not soft. Not safe. This is Stockholm syndrome in its purest, most feral form.

Byron has always known who he is, but years of repression and trauma have left him denying every part of himself—until Ren. After prison, Byron tries to rebuild his life, but he can’t escape the pull toward the man dating his sister… the same man who sets every instinct on fire, whether in fear or desire.

Ren, shaped by tragedy and emptiness, exists in a void where emotions don’t survive. His only release is the art he creates with his victims, earning him the name The Laguna Bay Painter. As women disappear and Byron senses something wrong with Gabriella’s new boyfriend, the truth spirals darker than he ever could have imagined.
Ren doesn’t want Gabriella.
He needs the rose to break the thorn.

This book had me on the EDGE OF MY SEAT. Every time I thought it couldn’t get any more unhinged—it DID. My jaw was constantly on the floor. If you want something pitch black with an ending that will leave you gasping, shaking, and rethinking everything—you need this book.

A dark, depraved, unforgettable descent into madness.
I’ll be thinking about Ren and Byron for a long, long time.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/🌶️🌶️🌶️ 🌶️

“When sickness rots you from the inside, you have to kill what’s causing it. And I did.”

“He’s not just breaking me. He’s wrapping his hands around everything I care about, piece by piece, until there’s nothing left.”

This was a wild ride. It was depraved, gory, and PITCH BLACK. This is NOT a horror romance. It’s an erotic horror. Luna did not hold back in this one! I did go into this pretty blind and I wasn’t disappointed.

I immediately loved Byron. I mean come on, he’s the tattooed bad boy. His inner struggle to come to terms with his sexuality really broke my heart. Ren is a completely pitch black psychopath. He has absolutely zero redeeming qualities. Now I usually LOVE a pitch black psychopath but Ren’s love for peeing on people really threw me lmao.. (idk what it says about me, that that’s my biggest complaint about this man..) Ren had a traumatic teenage life at the hands of his mother, this has led him to become the monster he is. He’s the Laguna Bay painter. He takes his victims and then creates art pieces with them.

There were several scenes that had my jaw on the floor.. but the circumcision (IYKYK) had me squirming!! I usually don’t bat an eye at any kind of gore, but Luna is a detail QUEEN 👑 and something about it just got me.

And the way this book ended had me screaming, I can’t wait to read volume 2!!

Please check your triggers!

It gave gore, MM, some MF, sister’s boyfriend, obsessive MMC, pitch black MMC, forced Bi awakening, and Stockholm Syndrome.

Painter’s obsession by Luna K. Wicked, this book is not for the fainted hearts, it is a horror erotica that delivers a very deranged, bold, and beautiful story. This is NOT romance, if you go into this book thinking it is a romance please don’t, do yourself a favor and read the trigger warnings.
Luna thank you! This story is everything a horror story with a serial unaliver should be. The characters are just perfection. I’m absolutely obsessed with Ren and can’t wait to see what will happen next in the story. The plot of this book, is as good as a movie, keeping you captivated and at the edge of your seat.

The audiobook is performed in duet by Corvin King, Joe Arden, and Mia Moreno, wow just wow.
Joe captured the essence of Ren in a unique way, making him somewhat relatable. The unhinged, depraved, traumatized mind of Ren is a true work of art. When you have such an amazing story, a performer has the freedom to go deep with their performance to different dimensions. Joe is the perfect example, he is molding himself to the characters, , giving us everything.
Corvin, as Byron, holy molly, where did those screams come from, the bottom of your soul? He gave everything in this performance, selling us every moment, so powerful and raw. Bravo! He worked with this character personally giving us the most amazing performance, balancing between his emotions and acting, creating layers and layers of emotions and feelings.
Now let’s talk about Mia, because we she is new to me and to this community, and she just blew our socks off. Where were you hiding, we want more, so much more, brilliant is a too little of a compliment!…. You absolutely killed it with all characters and gave us a range of performances that blew my mind.
Luna that ending is borderline evil, did I see it coming? Partially, but is it evil, hell yeah!
I need volume two like yesterday, thank you and please.

Well, all I’ve managed to do after finishing this book was stare at a wall for 30 minutes while trying to digest everything I just read, because WHAT?! 😳😳😳 Let me preface this by stating first that this book has ZERO romance whatsoever - This is a PITCH BLACK MM erotic horror with a SHOPPING LIST of trigger warnings and very heavy and dark themes. It was graphic, gory, messy, disturbing and psychotic, and I DEVOURED it! This book had me in an absolute chokehold from page 1, and I could not put it down! Watching Byron’s character build and crumble before my eyes brought me to my knees, and Ren… REN… I’m at a loss for words for Ren. Devious, charming, disarming, and sadistic - He is the walking, talking, human form of the devil himself. And the push and pull and undeniable and unbearable chemistry between the two is shattering. I think it’s safe to say that this book took the cake as my darkest read thus far. This is an EASY 5/5 stars for me, and I will definitely be crossing my fingers for more, because I NEED it! 🔥🔥🔥

This is one of the most effed up books I’ve ever read. It’s not a dark romance, there’s no romance, it’s erotic horror. And I’m not even the littlest bit ashamed that I loved every single page. Luna had me gasping and cringing and squirming in my seat. Idk if yall read the triggers, but you should before you read this because it reads a little something like kidnapping, torture, non-con, unaliving on page, forced piercings, bi-awakening, mutilation, blood play, all different types of abuse, golden showers, Stockholm syndrome, and like 70 other things. And they’re not fake yall. They’re there explicitly in all their graphic glory.

Ren is the darkest shade of black as far as morals go, and I loved him. He’s unapologetic and knows exactly who and what he is. I honestly felt bad for the dude during some of his flashbacks. He fucks up a lot of lives but his mom is the real villain in the story IMO. There’s no redemption for a man like Ren. He is who he is. But if he comes into your life he’s either going to break you, change you, or kill you. And there’s so much magic in his villainous story.
I felt bad for Byron sometimes, bro had a rough ride throughout the book. I admired his loyalty to his sister and his stubbornness. And is it weird that I got emotional when he finally admitted his truth?

The plot was so twisty and gruesome and raw and unpredictable and emotional and wild. The emotions I felt during the flashbacks of the main characters past is truly not something I can adequately put into words. And the end made me audibly gasp. There are so many scenes that made my jaw hit the floor I literally feel like I need an ice pack.
Luna will always be one of the top five people I look to to break me, change me, and most importantly make me adjust my own moral compass.

“I am a monster, and you’re just playing in the shadows. But I live in them. I am the shadows. I am death.”

“You bleed so beautifully for me.”

“You’re my pet. My puppet. Something for me to break.”

While this very well could be all we see of Ren, I sure hope we get another installment of his unhinged psychotic behavior. I could read a whole series about that black hole of a man and never have enough. He’s the best and the worst and also the best.

Another *mic drop* book from Luna. Sometimes I feel like I’m not worthy of the depravity she so eloquently puts into words.

This book was absolutely wild. I don’t think there was one moment where i wasn’t hooked!! The cat & mouse chase between Ren and Byron was captivating. This is a story of the “Laguna Bay Painter” and his obsession with his next piece, His Rose & His Thorn, Both mmcs have their own trauma and backstories that are so defining of their characters and so important to how the story plays out. Ren Santos was a character i absolutely fell in love with, the way luna wrote her characters was brilliant!! This was the first book i had every read by luna and i cannot wait to dive into her other books!! Painters Obsession is a dark erotic horror with no romance, it is all stockholm!! but my god what a story!! and the ending?!? luna there better be a second one!!!

What an absolutely unhinged and wild ride with this book! Check your TW - this is NOT a romance and is very dark! That being said, I devoured this audiobook so freaking fast and couldn’t stop listening. Ren is the definition of obsessed and is an absolute psychopath, but at times I couldn’t help but feel for him and his past trauma.

The audiobook is performed in duet by Corvin King, Joe Arden, and Mia Moreno - all 3 of these narrators were amazing in how they brought this story to life! I cannot wait to hear volume 2 in my ears and I’m ready for whatever comes next!

What to expect:
🎨ᴍᴍ ᴇʀᴏᴛɪᴄ ʜᴏʀʀᴏʀ
🎨ᴄᴀᴘᴛɪᴠᴇ x ᴄᴀᴘᴛᴏʀ
🎨ᴏʙꜱᴇꜱꜱɪᴏɴ/ᴘᴏꜱꜱᴇꜱꜱɪᴏɴ
🎨ᴍᴜᴛᴜᴀʟ ᴅᴇꜱᴛʀᴜᴄᴛɪᴏɴ
🎨ʙɪꜱᴇxᴜᴀʟ ʀᴇᴘ
🎨ᴛʀᴀᴜᴍᴀ ʙᴏɴᴅɪɴɢ

Thank you so much to Luna K. Wicked & Blue Nose Audio for letting me listen/review an early copy in exchange for my honest opinion!

**PLEASE READ THE TRIGGER WARNINGS BEFORE EVEN THINKING OF THIS BOOK** Ok, I'm gonna rate this 5 stars for anyone who loves deranged and just flat out psychotic. I liked this book....saying that, I have never, and I mean never, read a horror depraved/deranged book in my life. This was 100% my first....not going to lie, this unnerved me a lot. But from the statement I just said....I couldn't put the book down. I inhaled it. Does this insinuate I may enjoy this side of the genre? I'm not gonna say it doesn't bother me a little that I liked it, but should I feel bad for enjoying this book, maybe even a little? I think not

First ARC read of the year, and I'm blown away!! I couldn't stop turning the pages. And the end!! Luna, I want more so much more!! This story is abysmally black, and I devoured it in a day.
Ren's obsession was well written, and my heart hurt for Byron and his internal struggles. Sweet, sweet Byron may have been a thorn for Ren, but he was a rose to me.
Out of all the depravity and darkness in this book came a wonderfully thrilling story that I didn't want to put down.
Check triggers and heed warnings!!
Have fun reading!!
