When his estranged wife Kate is tragically killed Michael is completely grief stricken and struggles to come to terms with her loss.
So when he is approached by her sister who claims that she is in fact alive and well and the victim of a sinister kidnapping, he knows he must discover the truth.
Working together they uncover a mysterious group of killers and a woman who claims to have escaped from their clutches. When she conveniently commits suicide before she can help them, they know that they are in grave danger themselves.
I am a big fan of the McKay series so was excited to read this one. On the whole the book was good but without revealing too much, the plot has big similarities to one of the McKay books.
Along with that, there are so many lose ends due to the number of story lines running alongside one another. I'm hoping this is neatly brought together in the next book.
There are also numerous mistakes in the book such as missing words. There were a good few sentences that had to be reread just to make heads or tails of it.
Overall this was a good easy read & should be an interesting series to follow
This was the last book in a box set. I have waited until I finished all the books before I wrote a review because I was hoping my major criticism would improve with each book...the problem got worse. These books need SERIOUS editing for grammar. True Deceit was by far the worse. The verb tense errors were so numerous that it was distracting. I am stunned that this book was published in this condition. Having said that, the plots and characters are interesting and the books are a good rainy day read.
I liked the plot twist but I'm wondering who this book is really about. There are too many story lines running through it. Also, a little editing would help. I was distracted by all the typos.
If I could give a minus star rating, I would. What could have been a decent book continued to get worse and worse as I read it. Then the last page was the worst. It is not a novella or Bookshot, as other authors write. I expect them to lead the reader into wanting to read a fill novel. But there is no way I want to read anything else from this author. A group of influential and rich men have set up a way of making wrecks look like the driver committed suicide. The girls are used as sex slaves by the most brutal men. That's about as good as it gets. Downhill from there. I don't recommend it.
This book was truly hard to put down even for a few minutes, it is packed with suspense and new developments with almost every page turn. From a suicide investigation to a sex trafficking ring, this book has a lot of different elements to it, and each one contributed to an amazing story. When Jennifer disappears, her husband and sister find the news hard to believe and seek answers to their questions. While trying to find the truth, they uncover a dark underworld that involves many others like Jennifer.
When Michael’s estranged wife dies in an accident, he sinks into mourning. Then his sister-in-law Sarah shows up with a theory that Jennifer didn’t die. Soon, they are chasing dark web shadows in search of Jennifer and other women they discovered who died under similar suspicious circumstances. Other mysteries come to light that may leave more bodies and more questions. Will they be able to find Jennifer in time?
The pacing of this novel was good and the story was a little hard to believe yet still intriguing. This one had many grammatical and typographic errors that killed the flow.
I love how the story developed. There was so many twists and turns. I loved that Michael got to met and connect with his birth father. I still don't understand why all the other women were taken except for Savannah and Jennifer. They made sense. The ending was over with too quickly and it definitely needed more in that area. The last few chapters were a bit confusing. You could tell by them that there was going to be a sequel. I must say I am not a fan of books that end in a cliffhanger. Have to read the second book now to see what happens at the court.
FAST paced. Definitely left open two great plots. Michael's twin brother. Murderous. tortured women and kidnapped his own brothers wife. Elliot the detective going back to Boston to testify against cartel who killed his wife and son. Courthouse is bombed and kingpin escapes.
This was a good thriller, but I had a serious objection to it: the story is not finished! I guess the reader is expected to buy the next book in the series in order to find out what happened. I got this book as part of a ten-book collection "Death, Lies, and Duct tape" The first two books in the collection both had this same problem - the story wasn't finished!
A mediocre book poorly proofread. Typographical and grammatical errors throughout, my biggest complaint is probably using Colombia as a source of narcotraficantes, and misspelling it as Columbia. Columbia, with a "u", is a city in South Carolina. The country, in South America, has no "u". Maybe I am overly sensitive because I live in Colombia.
Great story line will keep you turning the pages to see what is going to happen next. This is the first AJ Carella novel I have read so I wasn't aware of the way she ends her stories. Will definitely look for the second book in this series, True Lies. Only gave 4 stars because of the typos.
I don't often read a book so quickly but I loved this so much, and I was intrigued to the last word. I now have another new author to take my mind on different adventures .
Investigation was not believable. Interesting characters, with many possibilities, but no complete ending for the episode. Trapped into another purchase if you wish to continue.
This story kept you on your toes until the end. Lots of drama and intrigue. More twist than a roller coaster. Can't wait to read the next book and see what happens with the detective!
Plot a little too thin and conclusions too easy to confirm for the main characters. Lots of loose ends that get lost in the rush to the next revelation.
Interesting plot for a while, but then it really got to be ridiculous.the ending didn't seem to go with rest of book.i felt like I was reading another book.
Okay so this is the second book I've read by this author. Okay so the author has some pretty good ideas, and I did like the plot line. It was interesting, and the book was easy to read. Her writing style is okay, and makes for easy reading. I did find though that the story itself could have been written a bit better. I felt that there was a plot hole in one part of the story that really didn't sit well with me. Okay she did clear that peace up at the end of the book, but I think it was the wrong place for it to be noticed. It just felt like the author forgot this small detail and then corrected it near the end, because she couldn't be bothered to go back and sort it out.
I just found it strange that a body was identified with records as Sarah's sister, but neither one of them even questioned that when Sarah thought that she felt her sister was alive. She refuses to believe her sister dead, yet although Mike doesn't believe her, he doesn't question her about the body that was found. I thought he was suppose to be an intelligent guy, so how come he forgot about this detail and argue the point to Sarah? That doesn't make sense, and it felt like the body in the car, or remains should I say was forgotten. It felt like the author forgot about it. But like I say, it was mentioned and we did eventually learn how it was identified etc. If you've read the book, you'll know what I mean. I don't really want to spoil everything. But yeah, that one small detail just bothered me, there were probably other details too, but I can't remember them maybe. This one just got me the most.
Anyway other than that, it did have a good twist to it, and there was a small surprise in the end. Which sort of made up for everything else.

"Intense and fast-paced, this ride will have you on the edge of your seat"
WHEW! I think that is an understatement! Honestly i haven't read one of A.J. Carella's books that I've been able to stay calm through yet! Very fast paced, full of action, From the first chapter you are just sucked in, I was not able to put this book down, I read it all in one sitting! I liked Michael and the sister as a team! When they went to the cops though, that scared me, I honestly thought one of the cops or the head honcho guy was going to end up being one of the "kings"! Every time another character was introduced i could have sworn it would have been another king, i kept trying to figure out who they all were!! I was actually a little bummed it didn't go more into who was in the club i guess you could call it but I can see why that didn't happen, wasn't apart of this story, maybe in another book ? The thing with Michael's father was definitely predictable but I'm so glad it didn't end there! Was not expecting that bombshell that happened after, the things that goes through these writer's minds, it's amazing!
One thing i can say I think Michael redeemed himself a little with as hard as they pushed to get her back... but that last chapter.. heh who would have thought! It always happens at the perfect time doesn't it ?! haha Can't wait to see how it gets handled in the 2nd book!

I did enjoy this book, maybe more 3.5 stars than 4, IMHO, as I read it as part of the 1 book series of the McCay's. I felt the story line was a bit familiar to a book in the McCay's (no spoiler, but if you read it, you'll know what I mean). It was different enough, and I did enjoy the 'twist', because I was SURE, it was someone who it wasn't. Unlike the McCay series, this left a lot more unanswered items. Unsure if I'll pick up the next one at this time, but I definitely purchased Blood Ties (McCay book 6) as before I finished this. It had typos, the same character mix up, where you need to re-read, no who did this again, but it's not life changing.
I bought this book thinking it was part of the same series as "To Kill For" - I was wrong; that one is the first in the McKays series. This one is first in the Blindsided series. The first book in the McKays series was excellent and I plan to read others in that series; this series: totally different and I didn't care for it. Unless I'm totally confused; "To Kill For" was well-written and I consider it a 5-star book; this one didn't even seem to be written by the same author. Sorry, but I'm rating this one 3 stars.
It’s been done before, but it’s the kind of cozy suspense I like to fall back to once in a while. As I’ve mentioned before, the editing is horrible and distracting, so I had to cut a star for that.
