Her Last Days

Rate this book
The past is in the past… or is it? Should the past be left undisturbed?

Coming to terms with her new identity, Emily flies out to Texas to meet her mother, Angela, for the first time since she was a baby, a mother she does not know or remember. On death row in a Texas prison, Angela does not have long left to live, the clock inevitably ticking away, eroding what little time they have left together to reunite and for Emily to find out the truth.
While in Houston, Emily meets with a successful author, a man of some standing and specialisms. Channelling his own experience and needs, he wants to write her story and, at the same time, help her to live with the startling revelations that have recently upturned her life.

The journey of emerging realisation and truth takes their trust to its limit, with killing becoming a necessity for justice to be served. Numerous twists and turns race the reader towards a reckoning long overdue.

In whose hands would you entrust your freedom and your life?

Another fast-paced and gripping psychological thriller from Mark Hurst who brought you the prequels “My Partner’s Friend” and “Your Secret”, this concluding book of the trilogy reveals that secrets of the past return to define unexpected outcomes of the future.

First, I like Hurst’s books for their easy style, and I read them as soon as they come out. I have read the two books previously to this final book in the series, but unfortunately, those books were published too long ago. I can’t remember what happened, and the references in this book were simply not enough for me to be reminded. It obviously factored into these characters, and their actions, so I was frustrated that I couldn’t remember pertinent details. While this book was entertaining, I felt like the sub-story was forced into the book. It didn’t flow naturally, and I couldn’t help thinking that it didn’t belong. The characters are also dis likable which didn’t help.

What I really felt was OFFENSIVE was his attempt to speak “southern”. We don’t go around calling people “sugar”, especially with the use in every sentence. We are educated enough not to say “ain’t” or “ya”. At a minimum, we probably say “ma’am” more frequently. It’s like he thinks we are all uneducated and not in command of the English language. I’m not from Texas, but he certainly made them sound like country bumpkins!

I really enjoyed this book filled with betrayal, lies and murder. Emily has just found out that she was taken as a baby and her real mother, Angela, is on death row for killing her father. This has caught national news as the President of the US has given her mother, who is dying, a pardon to spend her last few days with her newly found daughter. There will be a book and movie deal out of all of this as they are joined by Martin, an author trying to make it big. As they spend their final days together, Angela tells Emily what truly happened that day and why. Death and retribution is a common theme among certain people and Emily has fallen victim. Can she survive the truth and the people who think they are doing good?

Her Last Days
Mark Hurst

Wow! Just when I thought I had it all figured out – bam! Another twist. Another turn. When will it end? Hopefully never. Hopefully, Mark Hurst will never stop writing such wonderful thrillers.
Mr. Hurst starts with the quote, “Accepting what she has done will set her free…or will it?” This sums up all my questions about Her Last Days. Not the first book I have read by Mark Hurst, and it will not be the last.
Before you start reading this one, it will help if you first read My Partner’s Friend and Your Secret. If you have read these two novels, I highly suggest you go back and re-read the last chapters in each. Doing so will bring greater appreciation to your reading of Her Last Days.
Emily and Martin have pasts that neither of them is proud of; pasts that are very similar to each other’s. They are drawn together because Martin is determined to write Emily’s story; the one she is willing to share.
I am eagerly awaiting more about Arabella. What will happen to her? Where will she end up?

This is a wonderful mashup of two of Mark Hurst's stories colliding. The twists are remarkable and the story flows very well. We meet Martin, an author who wants to write a book about Emily. She was stolen as an infant and has at long last found her biological mother in prison during her last days. Mom was just given a Presidential pardon and will spend her remaining time in a hospital reuniting with her daughter. This is big news and Martin sees the possibility of a podcast, documentary and movie rights. Because Angie (the mother) is dying she makes a confession that has ramifications for everyone including Angie's nurse. This story is edge of your seat, breath holding suspense with a final twist that is chilling. This is book 3 of a trilogy but enough of the backstory is there to read as a standalone. It was a rewarding way to spend July 4 & 5 sharing Mark Hurst's vision. I thoroughly enjoyed the book.

A well written book keeps me up all night, and sad when it ends with a twist, like no other. Emily was abducted as an infant, and finds out she had been raised by her so called parents. When she learns that she is being sought by her biological mother. A fast paced story, full of twists, with characters that are well developed and an intriguing story line. A great read!

Excellent twists and turns. Mr Hurst has done it again. Great idea of taking a character from each of his first two & melding them into a third book. You don’t have to have read the other two books (though I strongly recommend it) to read this one.

awesome book

Loved this trilogy. I’m glad I read the Destiny series in order. The last book tied up a lot of loose ends. Highly recommend for people who like intriguing stories.
