This Final Girls Short Story will give you nostalgic vibes for old school thriller/horror.
Make sure you check out all of the Fight Like a Final Girl Collection!
Now I’ll bet when Scarlett started her shift at a burger joint, she had no idea that it would end with bodies piling up. Sara Lee wastes no time pulling readers into the tension, creating that eerie feeling that fans of “final girl” horror will immediately recognize. I read this fast paced short thriller in one setting.
“Final Order: A Fight Like Final Girls Short Story” by Sara Lea is a brutal, breathless ride. Scarlet’s fight to survive her shift at the Burger Box is gory, intense, and impossible to put down. I caught myself holding my breath more than once—absolutely loved it!
Thank you for the opportunity to be an ARC reader! I really enjoyed this book! It gave me old school slasher vibes! It was nostalgic in a way, lol. The plot twist had my jaw on the floor! The way this author writes pulls you in immediately. Definitely a page turner!!
This one didn’t really hold my attention but I think it’s more of a me problem than a story problem. A short story to help with your reading goal and a spooky season tbr addition.
Final Order ~Sara Lea "Sometimes we just put on the mask and do what we have to do." – but you’ll have to read to the end to know why.
Scarlet and Kayla are best friends pulling another late shift at The Burger Box - the last greasy spoon off Hwy 47 before a long, empty forty-mile stretch. Most nights, it’s the usual mix of regulars and passing truckers. But this Saturday feels different.
The highway is eerily quiet, the air heavy with unease, and even the regulars can’t shake the tension. When a lone trucker warns the girls, the road has been shut down, things only get stranger. Shadows flicker outside, nerves fray, and then Danny - the owner/manager - makes a gruesome discovery in the bathroom. A dead trucker.
From there, the night spirals into chaos. Someone - or something - is picking off the customers one by one. The question is why. Can Scarlet, Kayla, and the crew survive the blood-soaked night, or will The Burger Box be remembered for its Final Order?
Lea crafts a quirky, fast-paced horror short packed with oddball characters who blend so well. Their quirks and banter add levity to the escalating dread, making the action and twists even more a surprise when they happen. From page one to the shocking end, this story doesn’t let up.
This is the second novella in the Fight Like Final Girls series that I’ve been lucky enough to read (and I still have one left!). Trust me so far, this is a series horror fans will want to sink their teeth into.
I would like to thank Sara Lea for the opportunity to Alpha/Beta/ARC read Final Order. As always, all opinions and reviews are of my own volition. I have not been promised any compensation, current or future, by the publisher or author for a fair and honest review.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to enjoy this story and providing me with an ARC. I leave this review voluntarily.
“Final Order” - I would like to place another order, because this was a brilliant appetiser and left me hungry for more!
★★★★★
The moment this ARC entered my mailbox I was desperate to dive in and I devoured it like a greasy burger (I would opt for the veggie one) from “The Burger Box”.
This short story contains all the ingredients for a delicious classic final girl tale and delivers. It was creepy and unsettling and Sara Lea knows how to build tension and made me gasp audibly!
Order Up is a fantastic and fun new thriller from Sara Lea. This is a part of a short story collection I’m very excited about reading. Order Up follows the fast food shift from hell (almost literally). When an employee working her shift starts noticing the bodies hitting the floor, it might be too late to escape the clutches of an all too terrifying killer!
I could not put this down! It is so much fun and despite being a short story, it was fully fleshed out and gave me everything I could want in a Final Girl story! You don’t want to miss this latest story from Sara Lea!
Fight Like Final Girls is a collection of seven separate short stories written by different authors. When I heard about this project, I jumped at the chance to be an ARC reader. I was born and raised on horror films where final girls reigned supreme. The Final Order is a tense tale set in a semi-deserted truck stop cafe. From the outset, the sense of unease and dread builds nicely then the bodies start to pile up! It was a fun and quick read and I devoured it in one sitting. I would recommend this book to anyone who grew up on a strict diet of slasher films!
I love how this story was set up, especially the "menu board" at the beginning! So cute actually. This one is really short, perhaps a little too short for me. I love the concept of a killer on the loose inside a diner that's basically in BFE. I just think things were too rushed. I think it could have been excellent if it were fleshed out more. One of my biggest issues with the story was the kill scenes. I don't understand how the killer got into the locations they did to kill the people without being noticed. As someone whose first job was in fast food....it just seems unrealistic and too convenient.
This short story is a part of a larger collection of short inspired by final girls and I will definitely be checking out other stories. I will also keep Lea on my radar and look into reading more of her work.
I received a copy in exchange for my honest review.
This was such a fun and quick short story! The killer reveal was perfect, and the storyline kept your heart rate up! I do wish that the motive for all the murders was a bit more lined up, but I still enjoyed it!
Another great read by Sara Lea!!! I want to know what happens next! 😉. If you’re looking for a quick read that will leave you wanting more, this is it!!!!
Final Order left me hungry for more from Sara Lea. The story was so well written, that I was drawn in from the very first page. The author writes such real and likable characters that I felt invested from the very start. There was just enough creepy vibes, gore, and mystery that I gobbled up Final Order in one big gulp.
Final order is a short story that packs a punch. It may be short but it doesn’t miss anything. Well thought out charecters. Good storyline. There is nothing missing here great story. Loved it!
A quick short story of a girl’s fight for her life. Scarlett, a cashier at the Burger Box came in for her night shift knowing the best part of her night was working with her best friend Kayla. The problem? This night wasn’t like any other night of work, strange things began happening and soon she was in a fight for her life along with her co workers.
Sara Lea delivered a thrilling horror story in just a few pages. She covered every emotion, while the reader tried to determine - would every one survive? What was going on? And how would it end?
If you enjoy reading a good thriller/horror short story - especially at Halloween - give this one a try!

The diner setting is always a great one for strangers rolling through. When customers start dropping around the diner, the staff tries to figure out who is behind the gruesome acts.
Thank you so much for the ARC! I enjoyed this quick read.
Final Order delivers exactly what it promises: a short, punchy slasher with a classic “last girl” setup. The story throws us into a railroad diner where the main character and her best friend begin a seemingly normal shift—only for it to spiral into a bloody fight for survival. It has all the ingredients a short slasher should: tension, gore, and a neat little twist at the end.
That said, while the twist was clever and the pacing sharp, I didn’t feel fully engaged with the main character, which kept me from being completely immersed. It reminded me of the kind of burger you’d grab at a diner: enjoyable in the moment, but not something that lingers long after. Still, as a seasonal read, it works well. It’s the type of story you’d want to include in a Halloween horror marathon—quick, entertaining, and spooky enough to scratch the slasher itch.
Final Order is a thrilling, creepy, short story with 90's slasher style vibes. The story is centered around a fast food burger joint. There's been a road blockage of some sorts so customers are sort of stuck. There's no getting in or out. But while this is happening, bodies start piling up and police can't get in to help nor can anyone leave. This story gives that nostalgic 90's slasher feel that just reminds me of fall/halloween. For a short story, this was very well written and exciting. I wanted more.. and thankfully this was part of a collection and there are more short stories just like this one! Give this one a read for those halloween slasher vibes.
When the worker's at The Burger box is expecting a simple day at work like many they have worked many times before turns into a bloody disaster, screams and a fight to the end arises! This short story is a really great book that I would totally read a full book of it's very fast paced but has all the right details and moments that has you questioning what's happening and feeling the same emotions the characters are feeling. The Burger box will never be the same ever again and I would definitely drive on past.
This was a fun short story that read like a old school slasher book about a waitress at a burger joint on a Saturday night where everything goes horribly wrong. The beginning pulls you right into the story and keeps you hanging on. It was a fun and quick read that was intriguing and entertaining. The plot was great and I didn’t predict the culprit at all! Thanks to Sara Lea for an advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest review. 4 stars
Anyone who knows me knows I love a quick read and an old-school slasher, and this story did not disappoint. The Burger Box became a character of its own as our poor characters tried to escape the inevitable, and I felt like I was looking for the best hiding spots right along with them.
A perfect spooky season read, complete with a meduim-rare twist.
I like Sara's style of writing. I really like linear timelines because it's hard for me to stay focuses on a book anyway, so linear is easier. I will definitely be reading more of Sara's books! I love that I found this collection and was chosen to be an ARC reader. Honestly, I could picture myself in this book, working one of my first jobs at a fast food place in the country.
