This book starts with Jane Wilson hiring a cleaning lady for her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Elizabeth. It’s not that they need the help, but Jane is actually hiring someone who will spy on Elizabeth for her. Ever since Jane met Elizabeth, she felt uncomfortable letting her into their prestigious political family. She knows Elizabeth puts on a good show, but she just doesn’t belong with this family…and their money.

Marie studiously watches Elizabeth and takes notes as told, but she sees a normal and even sweet woman. Three months later, when Richard goes missing, she sees Elizabeth trying to stay poised and in control. Earlier in their marriage, Richard had an affair and walked out one day, telling nobody where he was going. This time, after he left, Elizabeth found a note in his office saying he wants a new life, and he’s sorry. Elizabeth keeps a brave face around the family, but Marie sees her when nobody else is watching, and she sees a broken woman.

The story is written from the points of view of Jane and Marie, and how they get together weekly to examine Elizabeth’s behavior. Soon though, Marie starts leaving things out of her reports. She genuinely likes Elizabeth, almost to the point of considering her a friend, and she doesn’t want to throw her friend under the bus. As the police begin their investigation and the family tries to keep Richard’s disappearance out of the press, one question keeps coming to the surface: Where is Richard, and is he ever coming back?

This was full of surprises, including the ending, which really shocked me. Jane becomes more unhinged as the book goes on, and eventually I even wondered if he ran away to get away from his mother, not his wife. The final chapter was excellent, and the whole book is a page turner. Four stars!

‘The Woman He Married’ was the first book I’ve read by Willow Rose… 📕 I felt it started quite slow but I was so invested in this once I got half way through the book. 📖👀
This story is about when a woman Jane Wilson hired a maid, Marie, for her son and daughter-in law, Richard and Elizabeth. It's not just that they need the help, but Jane hired Marie to keep spy and trackers on Elizabeth, so she could find out what secrets Elizabeth had from the past🕵🏼 When Jane’s son has vanished in the thin air, Jane would do anything to find out what happened to him then strangely, Elizabeth vanished too… what really happened there?! 🤔

I was kindly gifted ‘Don’t Let Her Go’ by Willow Rose from a buddy on instagram which I can’t wait to read soon! 🥰

A massive thank you to NetGallery and Bookouture for letting me participate in this ARC read.

Bestselling author Willow Rose steps away from her renowned Detective Billie Ann Wilde series (favorite) to deliver a gripping standalone psychological thriller, THE WOMAN HE MARRIED, with a cast of deliciously crafted unreliable narrators.

Beneath the veneer of a seemingly perfect life lies a web of secrets and manipulation, where a wife, a mother, and a maid are entangled in a dangerous game of deception. At the heart of this wickedly twisted domestic suspense is Richard, who goes missing (husband/son), whose existence binds their fates together in unsettling ways.

This thrilling narrative and mystery promise to keep readers on the edge of their seats, exploring the dark complexities of human relationships and the lengths one will go to protect the ones they love.

About…

In a household teetering on the edge of distrust, a storm brews beneath the surface. How far will they go to rid themselves of the woman they see as an intruder?

MOTHER-IN-LAW—JANE
With an icy demeanor and piercing gaze, Jane embodies the traditional matriarch who believes Elizabeth has never been worthy of her beloved son, Richard. Clinging fiercely to her family’s legacy, she views Elizabeth as a usurper, someone who threatens to tarnish the Wilson name. Determined and resolute, Jane is prepared to unearth the truth and reclaim her son from the clutches of a woman she deems unfit. To her, Elizabeth’s very presence is an affront to the family’s esteemed standards.

THE WIFE—ELIZABETH
Beneath a veneer of devotion, Elizabeth wrestles with the reality of Richard’s relentless infidelities and his mysterious disappearance. The weight of her love for him is burdened by the chilling reality that her mother-in-law, Jane, is more than just a formidable presence; she’s an opponent who will stop at nothing to sabotage her. Elizabeth’s heart aches, battling the fear that Jane might craft a scheme to frame her for Richard’s absence. Her despair is palpable, swirling around her like a storm ready to unleash its fury.

THE MAID—MARIE
Caught in the crossfire is Marie, the loyal maid whose life has been shaped by hardship and the struggle for acceptance. With Jane casting her shadow over Elizabeth, Marie finds herself ensnared in a dangerous game of loyalty and deceit. Tasked by Jane to infiltrate Elizabeth’s world, she is drawn into the complexities of the household. The more she discovers about Elizabeth’s true character and the harrowing secrets weaving through the Wilson family, the more Marie questions where her loyalties truly lie. Will she remain a pawn in Jane’s ruthless plan, or will the whispers of compassion guide her to a different path? Or something more sinister?

In the depths of suspicion, where alliances shift like sand and trust is a fragile illusion, the looming questions remain: Who can genuinely be trusted? And where has Richard vanished to?

My Thoughts...

Told cleverly through the alternating perspectives of Jane and Marie, this captivating narrative offers readers an intimate glimpse into their weekly meetings as they delve into the enigmatic motives and behaviors of Elizabeth. As their investigation unfolds, Marie finds herself increasingly drawn to Elizabeth, even as she begins to withhold crucial details from their conversations. But beneath the surface, Elizabeth harbors dark secrets that could shatter the fragile façade surrounding her.

Fast forward three months, and the tension mounts as Detective Mitchell and his team launch a probing investigation into the mystery of Richard’s disappearance. With the family frantic to keep the truth under wraps to avoid the taint of scandal, the question looms: Where is Richard, and will he ever return? What hidden truths lie within his silence?

In the shadows, Marie observes everything. Her greatest asset—her ability to blend into the background—allows her to sift through secrets that others overlook. To the family, she is simply Marie, the seemingly invisible cleaner, but in that invisibility, she possesses knowledge that could change everything, including the four digits to the safe. What treasures or horrors might she uncover? Meanwhile, Elizabeth stumbles upon a note penned by Richard just before his abrupt departure, hinting at his internal struggle. And on the digital front, someone unearths incriminating emails, each revealing more layers of deceit.

The question lingers: Is Marie unwittingly working for a murderer, or is she entangled with a woman on the verge of being falsely accused?

As always, Willow Rose weaves a masterful tale that keeps you on edge in this slow-burning domestic suspense mystery. It artfully dissects the divide between the haves and the have-nots through a lens tinted with lies, betrayal, secrets, jealousy, greed, manipulation, revenge, attempted murder, and the survival instinct. Marie’s dual perspective—then and now—infuses the plot with added intrigue and scandal, compelling you to turn each page with bated breath.

While I savor the author's eloquent writing, I must admit that my true love lies in her widely acclaimed detective series—a preference shaped by my admiration for police procedurals. Yet this standalone psychological thriller stands out, providing a unique layer of mystery that keeps you guessing at every turn.

Who is the unpredictable wild card lurking in the shadows? And who is slowly unraveling beneath the weight of their own secrets? Three people bound by secrets and survival.

One aspect I particularly cherish about the author is her vivid depiction of Florida's landscapes (a FL resident for many years), bringing the setting to life through her detailed descriptions. Her Author's Notes about the inspirations behind her novels also add an extra layer of connection, immersing readers even further into her intricate storytelling. If you have not read the author's backlist, I highly recommend it.

Recs...

THE WOMAN HE MARRIED is an enthralling read, perfect for dedicated aficionados of the author and those who savor gripping narratives akin to the works of Frieda McFadden, Jenova Rose, Joy Fielding, Kaira Rouda, and Victoria Helen Stone. This captivating tale promises to immerse readers in a web of intrigue, making it a must-read for anyone who enjoys expertly crafted twisty psychological dramas and complex characters.

DNF - Willow Rose is one of my go to authors but unfortunately this one really fell short for me. I’ve trudged through it for the last 3/4 weeks and I’m still only halfway through and I’m just so bored so it’s time to call it a day. Really unlikeable characters with not much going on but the same constant theme back and forth between 2 characters. The mother in law is just a strange character with far too much attachment to her son. At the halfway point I’m no further into the story then I was at 20%. I don’t feel like I’ve gotten to know the characters at all and I’m just done… Hate to say it but this one really slowed me down this mouth and I hate to give up but I need to move on…

I read a lot of thriller and I had my suspicions but of course I didn’t have any details. I needed back ground info.
I have read other Willow Rose stories so knew I needed NOT to jump to conclusions.
It was a fast read.

Love the end of the story when there is info‘or perhaps the ‘inside scoop’ on the story/
In “A Letter from the Author” Ms. Rose tells us the idea for this story came when she got thinking of her own life. When she was seventeen she worked as a ‘housecleaner’ for a very rich family. She was close to the family – in fact, they included her on family outings- since she had a bit of a crush on the son she would go. However, was alone when she cleaned the house. She remembers trying on the woman’s jewelry and dreamt of owning a house like this.
The thought came to her

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this ARC!

Willow Rose delivers another gripping psychological thriller with The Woman He Married, a story that expertly blends family drama, suspense, and domestic intrigue. From the very first chapter, I was drawn into a tense atmosphere where nothing is as it seems and everyone has something to hide.

The story is told primarily through the perspectives of Jane, the overbearing mother-in-law; Elizabeth, her daughter-in-law; and Marie, the cleaning lady hired to spy on Elizabeth. Jane is convinced that Elizabeth has ulterior motives for marrying her son Richard, and when Richard disappears, her suspicions spiral out of control. Marie, initially acting as Jane’s spy, gradually becomes sympathetic to Elizabeth, adding layers of tension and moral ambiguity to the story.

One of the novel’s standout features is its use of dual perspectives, which keeps the reader guessing at every turn. Just when I thought I understood the truth, a new twist shifted the entire story in an unexpected direction. Rose’s writing is fast-paced and immersive, making this an easy, addictive read that I devoured in just a few sittings.

The characters are well-drawn and complex. Jane is both frustrating and fascinating, her intensity driving much of the tension, while Elizabeth’s poise and hidden vulnerabilities kept me questioning her motives. Marie’s perspective provides a unique insider view, and her gradual shift in loyalty adds a compelling dynamic to the narrative.

Overall, The Woman He Married is a dark, twisty, and emotionally charged psychological thriller. It’s perfect for readers who enjoy stories of family secrets, deceit, and the dangerous consequences of mistrust. While a few moments felt slightly drawn out, the story’s suspense, sharp twists, and engaging characters more than make up for it.

I highly recommend this book to fans of domestic thrillers, particularly those who love a slow-burn mystery filled with secrets and betrayal. Willow Rose has once again delivered a page-turner that will keep you on edge until the very last chapter.

Gripping, shocking, and dramatic! This is the first Willow Rose book I have read, and I look forward to reading more of her books in the future! I thought I knew what was happening in this book, I thought I was so clever because I had everything figured out! I was so very wrong! I love it when that happens. I love when an author throws in a twist and reveal that leaves me reeling and my mouth open in awe. Willow Rose delivered a riveting, hard to put down and mysterious book with The Woman He Married: An absolutely gripping and utterly unputdownable psychological thriller!

Jane never felt that Elizabeth was good enough for her son, Richard. She hires Marie, as a cleaning woman, to keep their home clean and to spy on Elizabeth. When her perfect son goes missing, she knows that Elizabeth is behind his disappearance. She will not stop until she finds her son and proves that Elizabeth is behind Richard's disappearance.

Richard may have been the perfect son, but he was not the perfect husband....

I enjoyed the secrets, lies, tension, suspicion, deception and drama in this book. I enjoyed both Jane and Marie POVs. This made for a captivating book which kept me on my toes and turning the pages. I enjoyed getting into both of their heads and being privy to their thoughts and motivations.

Wonderfully written, well thought out, shocking, mysterious, and hard to put down!

3.5 stars!

This novel presents a twisted yet steady family drama that occasionally drags but ultimately serves to bring readers up to speed.

The book centers on a conflict between Jane, Elizabeth, and Richard. Jane distrusts Elizabeth, suspecting she has harmed Richard and married him for ulterior motives. Richard is portrayed as unfaithful, complicating Jane's feelings for him. Both women are seen as untrustworthy as they navigate their tense relationship amid Richard's mysterious disappearance.

Written from the dual perspectives of Marie and Jane, the story’s timeline shifts back and forth, enriching our understanding of both the present circumstances and the past events that shape them. It begins quite subtly, and as the pages turn, the pace accelerates, leaving you eager to uncover what’s really going on. Where has Richard disappeared to, and why?

Marie initially comes across as a calm and reasonable character, but things take a sudden turn. In contrast, Jane embodies strong family values but is tough to warm up to due to her controlling nature. Gaining insight into Marie’s character was a pleasant surprise, and the unexpected ending, along with the buildup to the main twist, kept me on my toes. Elizabeth’s actions also sparked my suspicion, making me second-guess her motives throughout.

This book is a compelling read for anyone interested in themes of family expectations, betrayal, and deep-rooted love. It also delves into the complexities of how working-class and high society interact, stirring an emotional response in the reader. I’d love to hear your thoughts on it!

Thank you, Bookouture, for the digital ARC copy. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Marie is more than a maid. Cleaning and cooking for Elizabeth is not the only she earns her income. Elizabeth’s mother-in-law Jane is paying her a good sum to spy on Elizabeth. Jane exerts significant influence over Elizabeth’s husband, Richard, and is eager to know everything that occurs within his household and between him and Elizabeth.

Soon everything begins to unravel, but not in the way Jane had imagined. Richard has gone missing and, while Jane feels that she was right that something just had to be less than ideal, the longer Richard is gone, the more panicked she becomes. Naturally, Elizabeth has her own frantic worries about Richard’s sudden disappearance. As far as Jane is concerned, image is everything, not just with Richard having gone missing, but simply because he married Elizabeth in the first place.

Marie’s role has now become even more crucial. Jane demands to know everything about Elizabeth and especially wants Marie to find evidence that somehow it was Elizabeth who drove Richard away. But, as Marie doesn’t miss a beat, it soon becomes apparent to the reader that a shocking twist is coming, and the twist takes a sharp turn. Marie might have been hired as a convenience to Jane, but there’s more at stake. Much more.

This captivating story by Willow Rose is multilayered, and unfolds primarily through the first-person perspectives of Elizabeth and Jane, spanning both the present and the past. However, Marie also has a voice, and this adds another excellent layer to this engaging story. And, while the reader might wonder more than once where Richard has gone to, the motivations of each of the women definitely comes into play.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

Mothers and daughters-in-law… They often have a good relationship, but there are also situations where mothers never find their son’s wife good enough. A pity, because just because this idea lives in the mother’s mind doesn’t mean her son can’t have a good marriage—but in some cases, it does put a heavy strain on the relationship.

Most mothers-in-law might limit themselves to some criticism, but they rarely go as far as Jane. She feels it’s absolutely necessary to hire someone to spy on her daughter-in-law Elizabeth and report back to her, in the hope of unmasking the young woman. Jane is thrilled with her new ally, convinced she’s the perfect person—or is she rather the wrong person…?

At the start, the story moves quite slowly, but later it picks up the pace. In the meantime, I kept asking myself who I should actually give the benefit of the doubt. At first, I thought Jane was just an annoying, meddlesome woman, but later I started to feel sorry for her, as she was all alone and believed by no one.

In my head, I had mapped out a certain path I thought the story would take—but no. I misjudged it completely. The author went in a different direction, one I didn’t see coming at all.

You’d also think that after ending up in certain precarious situations, people would learn their lesson and mind their own business—but for some, that clearly doesn’t apply. As the saying goes: “A donkey doesn’t bump into the same stone twice.” Well, some people seem not to believe in that proverb.

I really liked the idea behind the book, though for me it could have picked up speed a bit faster. The twist was especially surprising—brilliantly done. 4 stars.

Thank you

Willow Rose’s The Woman He Married is a hauntingly elegant psychological thriller that lingers long after the final page. From the moment I began reading, I was drawn into a world of secrets, suspicion, and emotional depth. Rose masterfully crafts a narrative that is both gripping and intimate, told through the eyes of three women—each with their own truths and motives.

Jane, the mother-in-law, is a force of nature, driven by love and desperation to uncover what happened to her son. Elizabeth, the enigmatic wife, is wrapped in layers of mystery that kept me constantly second-guessing. And the maid, quietly observing from the shadows, adds a chilling dimension to the story that I didn’t expect but deeply appreciated.

The pacing is relentless, the prose sharp and evocative. Just when I thought I had the plot figured out, Rose delivered a twist so audacious and emotionally charged that I had to pause and let it sink in. It wasn’t just clever—it was devastatingly human.

What makes this novel truly special is its emotional resonance. Beneath the suspense lies a poignant exploration of love, betrayal, and the fragile nature of trust. It made me reflect on how well we ever truly know the people closest to us.

I read it in one sitting, completely absorbed, and when I finished, I felt both satisfied and unsettled—in the best possible way.

If you love thrillers that are smart, emotionally charged, and full of surprises, this one’s for you.

With thanks to Willow Rose, the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC.

I have loved all Willow Rose's books, I must admit that this wasn't my favourite but even so I did enjoy it.
Jane Wilson is the quintessential, snooty, high society woman, enjoying the position of senators wife, a position that she is determined to protect. Jane is also the overbearing, controlling mother of Richard, eliminating any girlfriend that Richard was brave enough to bring home.
When Richard married Elizabeth without the knowledge of his parents Jane's controlling went into overdrive, no woman was good enough for her precious son and definitely not Elizabeth.........she had to go.
Jane hired Marie Clement, a cleaner, to keep house for Elizabeth and Richard, a hiring with an ulterior motive, she was to spy on Elizabeth and report back.
When Richard disappeared, Jane was positive that he had come to harm and she had Elizabeth in her sights as the perpetrator, especially as it had come to her notice that Elizabeth was having secret visits from an unknow male.
Jane's suspicions became more and more wild, detective Mitchel was quite dismissive, she would find Richard herself if no one else was interested.........but was she right ?
After a slow start the author pulls out the suspense and the tension mounts, some of the outcomes I guessed but not all of them. Both Elizabeth and Marie had chequered pasts but did any of this have any baring on Richard's disappearance.
An enjoyable, psychological thriller with well written characters.

Review – The Woman He Married by Willow Rose

Willow Rose delivers a gripping psychological thriller that masterfully explores the darker sides of human relationships. From the very beginning, the story immerses the reader in an atmosphere of unease, where the ordinary is intertwined with secrets, lies, and hidden motives.

One of the novel’s strongest qualities is the way it plays with doubt and uncertainty. The characters navigate through a space filled with ambiguity, and every interaction feels like a clue pointing toward something deeper beneath the surface. This constant tension keeps the reader guessing until the very end.

Rose’s writing is fast-paced and immersive, making it an ideal read for those who enjoy thrillers that are both quick to get through and hard to put down. The plot unfolds with a natural flow, yet always carries the promise of an unexpected twist that shifts the perspective and renews the suspense.

Personally, I found this book to be entertaining, addictive, and perfect for finishing in just a few sittings. I would especially recommend it to readers who enjoy psychological thrillers with family secrets, domestic intrigue, and the unsettling sense that even the most familiar situations can turn dangerously deceptive.

Thanks to NetGalley and Willow Rose for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The Woman He Married by Willow Rose

A dual-POV domestic thriller where two women unravel a web of secrets, suspicion, and betrayal.

Main characteristics:
• Psychological tension: Secrets, class and power dynamics keep stakes high
• Unreliable narration: The alternating voices force you to triangulate the truth. The twists feel earned, before the final reveal, there are multiple suspects

Characters:
• Jane (the mother-in-law): Controlling, polished, and fiercely protective of her son. Her chapters hum with judgment and obsession as she questions the wife’s motives and tightens her grip on the family narrative
• Marie (the maid): Observant and underestimated. Through Marie’s quiet, detail-rich lens, the household feels claustrophobic; every gesture and closed door suggests hidden truths
• Elisabeth (the wife): At the center of the storm, Elisabeth’s secrets unravel slowly as the story progresses
• Richard (husband): His disappearance is the gravity pulling the women’s stories together. The more we learn, the more it’s clear that the “perfect” son and spouse is not exactly what he seems to be

• Overall: A taut, addictive psychological thriller anchored by a mother-in-law’s icy scrutiny and a maid’s unsettling view. Perfect if you love layered motives and multiple unreliable narrators.

• Reading format: ebook (Kindle)
• Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (tight pacing, sharp twists)

Jane Wilson, matriarch of the Wilson family is one scary woman. Her obsession with maintaining the family name is absolutely terrifying. Her need for control over every aspect of the son's life drives her to hire a housekeeper/maid for her son and daughter in law, a nice gesture but there is a catch. To Jane the maid she hires, Marie Clements, is a mild mannered, quiet, and completely unremarkable young woman who is to not only clean the house, but to act as her spy. When Richard Wilson disappears, Jane is certain that Elizabeth is responsible, but she isn’t too worried at first because she knows her son better than anyone, and she will find him. After all, the housekeeper she hired will tell her everything. Unfortunately, for the Wilson family Marie has her own agenda and Janes past actions have come home to roost. Wow, I loved these characters! I thought they were all utterly fascinating and, in some cases, terrifyingly compelling. An intense psychological thriller with so many twists and turns in the plot that it kept me engrossed and staying up into the wee hours to finish this book. I love this author and will always recommend her books to anyone who wants an unforgettable and exciting read.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary ARC of this book provided by the author.

was this the best thriller I've ever read? no.
was it shocking the way things ended?? also, no, not really
was it still a decent read? absolutely

Jane hires a new maid, Marie, to care for her. son and daughter-in-law's house, while also asking Marie to spy on her sons wife Elizabeth, for anything odd or concerning. Richard, Janes son, goes missing weeks later. Jane is solely relying on Marie's information as to what happened to Richard, which she soon learns is a BIG mistake. I wont dive in to too much more of the plot to spare any spoilers, but I will say that Marie is absolutely crazy for harboring a what, 10+ year grudge against Richard and Jane..?

the book overall was very well written, I will say that. the author left no important details out, and was sure to give you all of the information necessary for the ending. I think the storyline was good, but just not properly executed. the last chapter with Jane just threw me off so much, like did you not learn anything at all from the whole debacle with Marie??!!

anyways. thanks NetGalley and the publisher for letting me read this! this publisher is my absolute favorite on NetGalley and I look forward to every one of the books they put out. 😁

Jane does not trust her daughter-in-law Elizabeth. She believes that Elizabeth has something to hide. She hires Marie to work as a cleaner at Elizabeth's house. Marie's role is simple--spy on Elizabeth and report whatever she finds to Jane. Marie keeps a close tab on Elizabeth but the more she works for Elizabeth the more she believes that Elizabeth may not be getting along with her mother-in-law and that Elizabeth's marriage to Robert Jane's son isn't happy. But then Robert goes missing and Jane suspect that Elizabeth has something to do with his disappearance.

The story is told in the POVs of Jane and Marie. There are some twists and turns on the story and the story was quiet fast paced and intriguing as well. We see Jane who is determined to prove that Elizabeth has something to do with Robert's disappearance and we see Marie who is doubting Jane's theory and is trying to get closer to Elizabeth. The ending was completely unexpected but it was an OK ending in my opinion. The complete diversion of Marie's character at the end was also completely unexpected.

The writing overall was good, and the author managed to keep the reader feel like they are at the edge of their seat.

Overall this is an OK thriller, worth 3.5 stars.

This book follows the story of a wealthy family. The controlling mother in law decides to hire a maid for her sons house in the intention to get her to spy on his wife and her life as she is sure that she is hiding things from her past and doesn’t think she is good enough for her only son.

Then the son goes missing and the mother in law is adamant that his wife had something to do with it and sets out to find the truth.

I liked how the chapters were in each women’s perspective, the mother in law, wife and the maid so I knew what they were all thinking. The storyline really heated up when secrets came to light and then I was even more hooked. The twist was unpredictable and made me think even more about the characters and how mistaken I had been.

This book was a slow burner but it kept me reading as I was intrigued to find out what was going on. The mother’s obsession with her son became a bit repetitive over time, however, I understand how this had to be done so that the reader understood how obsessed she was with him.

A well written book with a great storyline. I gave it 4 stars as I struggled to get into it a little.

A big thankyou to NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read this book.

*ARC REVIEW*
Jane has never been happy that her son Richard married Elizabeth. She just doesn't fit into their world. And Jane is sure Elizabeth is hiding something. So she hires Maria to be their cleaner. And to spy on Elizabeth for her. When Richard goes missing, Jane is sure Elizabeth is behind it. But then Elizabeth goes missing, and Jane isn't sure who she can trust.

I thought this one would be okay. But I'm not going to lie, I was bored through most of it. It felt like a whole lot of drama for no reason. Jane annoyed the hell out of me. She seemed overly attached to her son. I promise, not all of us boy mums are like that. (Well maybe some) She seemed very petty and from what I could see the only thing Elizabeth had done to upset Jane was marry Richard. Richard annoyed me because he was a wuss, who didn't stand up to Jane. The detective annoyed me because he just seemed like an idiot.
I did feel like it was a little repetitive at times as well. However, due to unreliable narrators, I had no idea where this story was going. It was definitely a twisty read, but unfortunately, it just wasn't for me.

Elizabeth has never been good enough for my son Richard. I see through her pearly-white smiles and swanky hospital fundraisers to the real reason she married him. When I hear Richard is missing, I know she's done something terrible. I will find my boy, and force her out of the family. Richard has always played away, so I just shrug my shoulders as I'm told he's missing. But Jane's accusations are like daggers to my heart. I love my husband, despite everything we've been through. But she lost her grip on her son the day we got married. Has she set me up to get rid of me for good?

The story is told from Elizabeth and Jane's perspectives. Jane hires a cleaner for Elizabeth and Richard, but the real purpose for hiring Marie was not really to clean, but to spy on Elizabeth.

This is a tense and suspenseful domestic thriller. The characters are well-developed but complex. This dark and twisted read had me pulled in by the end of the first chapter.

This was an unbelievable thrilling book that keeps you totally immersed and engaged until the surprise ending. The Wilson family is from high society and politics and Jane, never thinks anyone is good enough for her son Richard. So when Richard marries Elizabeth without his parents knowledge Jane goes into overdrive as the mother in law from hell. She hires Marie as a housekeeper in Richard and Elizabeth's house, whose main purpose was to spy on Elizabeth for Jane. But when Richard walks out and leaves a note for Elizabeth, that he wants a new life, Jane decided that Elizabeth did something to him. But he walked out before so the police aren't very enthused. Marie, who had been reporting on the couple's actions has decided that she really found nothing and really liked Elizabeth. As the story goes on, Jane is losing it. But who can Elizabeth trust? What is Marie hiding? Where did Richard go? Can he be found? This is a fast paced thriller that grabs you from the beginning and doesn't let you put the book down once you start! I highly recommend this book. I received an ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

Konu beni gerim gerim gerdi. “Böyle bir kayınvalide tepemde olsa ne yapardım?” dedim… ki, cevap vermeyeyim, hoş olmaz şimdi burada 😂😂
Kitabı çok uzatılmış buldum, bir de sonunu çok klişe.
Ama kadın karakterlerin manipülatif yanlarını iyi yazmış; insanı cidden çileden çıkarıyor.
O yüzden 3.5/4 verdim.

💬 "Before I learned that love could be the sharpest weapon of all"

I really love a good psychological thriller, and The Woman He Married did not disappoint. I did work out pretty early on which of the characters was the untrustworthy one, but there were plenty of other twists to unravel and secrets to discover. Having said that, I never fully trusted anyone, and the ending showed why. Speaking of the ending, it left us rather in suspense I thought. Not in a "What a cliffhanger, I need a sequel" kind of way; but that perfect, slightly unsettling ending that psychological thrillers need.

I usually make a comment about how realistic the characters are, but as I have no idea what life is like in America for the super wealthy, I don't actually know in this case if women like this really exist. For this type of book though I don't actually think it matters. They were all slightly unhinged, which is why the twists and mistrust works so well.

The quote I've chosen for this book is actually quite painful I think. In my experience nothing hurts as much as love, and yet its something we are desperate to find.

The Woman He Married by Willow Rose
Oh goodness. It takes a lot to create a character that makes my blood boil. But this thriller did that!

I enjoyed how the story was told. The alternating perspectives and the way the plot escalated kept things engaging and entertaining. The character development was solid. Marie was doing her best to recover from a financially abusive marriage, and Jane was the prominent wife of a wealthy man.

Both stories had complexities, secrets, and reasons to be dangerous. I love it when a book has a strong female lead, and this did in spades. I did not see several of the plot twists coming, and I was pleasantly surprised by how elements came together.

The plot was creative and fast-paced. Willow does a beautiful job of showing how human nature and perceptions can be harmful. The themes within this book were beautifully done, and I appreciated the exposure.

I was entertained and engaged. I was also furious. But to find out how and why, you must read the book- it is worth it, I promise!

Jane: overbearing and fierce.
Marie: desperate and unassuming.
Elizabeth: poised and distrusted.
All 3 women have agendas, all trying to prove something, but who should be believed?

This book follows both Jane and Marie in their endeavours to uncover the truth about Jane’s missing son Richard. Marie is invited to clean Richard’s home, the home where his wife Elizabeth still resides, but it’s not just a cleaning job, she must remain hidden, alert and ready to report back to Jane on the activities ongoing in the house.

This book had me hooked from the prologue. I was kept guessing and in suspense until the very last chapter. I went from loving to hating characters and vice versa, due to the twists and turns that Willow Rose executed effortlessly.

Key highlights:
- Dual POV
- Twisty
- Fast Paced
- Suspenseful
- Family Drama

Jane feels that she knows everything about her son. She monitors and interferes in his life and his marriage. The woman he married, Elizabeth, isn't good enough for him. So Jane hires Marie to work in Richard and Elizabeth's house as a maid.

Marie is in desperate need of money to settle her husband's debts to a shark organization so she follows Jane's orders to gather information on the couple, especially Elizabeth and report back to Jane. When Richard goes missing, Elizabeth is calm and Jane is infuriated because she feels that he would have told her where he was going.

This book is jam packed full of secrets, and convoluted with so many twists and turns. If you like a good psychological thriller, especially one that will keep you guessing to the end, this book is a fantastic choice.

This is a good family drama. It wasn’t as gripping as I’d hoped, but overall is a good read.
Jane still likes to control her son Richard’s life, despite him being married to Elizabeth.
She suspects Elizabeth is hiding aspects of her life from Richard, so hires a maid to clean the house, and also asks her to spy on Elizabeth, and report back to her each week.
When Richard is missing for several days, Jane is the one to phone the Police as Elizabeth thinks he’s left her, and will come back when he’s ready.
Jane is a very controlling person and Elizabeth feels smothered by her, and confides in Marie, the maid.
There’s a couple of good twists as the story progresses, but it’s a bit of a slow burn.
Thanks to Bookouture for the opportunity to read this book.

ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS I HAVE READ SO FAR THIS YEAR! I wish I could give it more than 5 stars! This was a twisted, fast-paced, interesting read, that I found I did not want to put down! It had a unique plot and well-developed, multi-faceted characters. It was suspenseful, thrilling and addictive! I was glued to my Kindle screen from the first page to the last. If you like unputdownable psychological suspense as much as I do, you CANNOT miss out on reading this book!!!

This was such a twisty domestic thriller! I loved how the story unfolded through the maid, the wife, and the overbearing mother-in-law—it kept me constantly second-guessing who was telling the truth. The secrets, lies, and shifting loyalties made it a real page-turner, and just when I thought I had it figured out, the ending completely pulled the rug out from under me. Creepy, addictive, and a fun read for people who like the psychological thriller genre !
