The Batgirl must die in the action-packed second chapter of “The Three Swords”!The Unburied have sent their greatest assassin to kill Cassandra Cain for the sinsof her mother, but Cass is still recovering from the revelations of the previousissue. Will she accept her unlikely allies and join forces with them to defeat thefirst sword—or will they be their undoing as the second sword arrives to kill theBatgirl?! Destiny is calling. Will Batgirl answer…or die fighting?
Can't believe the long lost brother storyline is working for me. Helps Tenji is a lot of fun, and him and his sister kicking ass is cool. Another very fun issue.
I like learning more about Tenji, and how much he looks up to Cassandra is sweet. I hope they will get the chance to behave like regular siblings someday doing regular sibling things.
Batgirl has been such hit and miss for me. I really wasn’t a huge fan of the first arcs cause I wanted to read about Cass not Shiva so it’s really nice that we’re focusing on Cass now (and her brother). This was a really good issue.

A nice blend of backstory and action. The flashbacks we get in this issue go a long way in helping flesh out Tenji. Cass is such a badass too. That ending man, whooo!
My social media feed has been filled with amazing edits lately, so it should come to no surprise with the highly emotional moments and quick actions scenes that the songs “Like Him” and “a good man with a broken heart,” filled my head the entire issue. This issue felt like such a natural ride from cleaning up the bomb drop of last issue until we are standing on stable ground. But there is still one thing I am unsure of…is Tenji Turner really the son of Lady Shiva? Who’s really telling him this, Ben? It may just be Shiva’s way, but we find out that every year she visited him at the dragon ranch on his birthday to fight him and see how he has improved. But at no point does she refer to him as a son. Like I said, that may just be Shiva’s way, but generally speaking people hate secret sibling plot lines and this is quite a retcon…unless…it was Shiva’s sister who we got very introduced to that really had Tenji before she died. I’m faintly holding onto that prediction, but I will continue on with the information given to us, because just based on this issue I really like how the relationship with Shiva and Tenji is developing.
Now dropping into the present day of this issue, we pick up where we left off as three assassins are going after Batgirl. The first to reach them is from the unburied, and he is obviously very nervous. He has been chosen to be the next grandmaster, but he is so far “untested,” and must kill the child of Shiva to prove himself. Tenji really wants to talk to Cass about everything, but she is fully ready to fight this guy, even planning out the moves ahead of time to down him in 5. But then Tenji tries to step in, seeing this as a challenge against Lady Shiva, which means he should be involved as well. Cass continued to try and tell him to stop, it he wouldn’t listen, and once the sword caught wind that Tenji is also related to Shiva, then he decided he might as well kill him as well. But that’s when Cass drops the info that the unburied killed Shiva, something Tenji would not have been aware of and greatly frustrated him. He only ever saw her once a year, but was desperate for her admiration and so much more…and suddenly that is gone. Instead of batgirl being able to swoop in and take this guy down…Tenji throws himself into combat. He has a few flashy moves, but he is untested himself. He has trained with the best, but none of them wanted to kill him. He is so fresh that he even announces his moves as he is doing it, Ben clearly wants him to stop fighting, but isn’t able to get him away before the sword from the unburied slashes Tenji up. Batgirl tries to jump in and deliver her moves, but Tenji once again gets up and gets in the way.
Ben is the one to finally end the fight and send the sword flying and crashing into the nearby barn. They have only a bit of time to get Tenji inside and patch him up before they are going to have to deal with the sword again. This also provides an ample opportunity for Ben and Cass to talk over Tenji’s passed out body. Cass came here looking for help or guidance, not this. Ben didn’t expect her either, especially as she brought violence here. But all Ben wants is peace for his son, the two talk back and forth about the kid’s training as they bat back and forth a training stand. Ultimately the conversation boils down to Ben never telling her about Tenji because he didn’t want him to turn out like her, constantly having people trying to kill him. But now we are here, and because he has been sheltered his entire life he may not survive like Cass has been able to. Tenji has heard the entire thing and it has been hard to hear. He sits up and begins to talk himself about his experience with Shiva, every year she would come to test him and every day before that he would train to get better. He was told she was a great hero, and he hoped to join her one day if he proved himself worthy. Then he found out about his sister, and he suddenly had someone else to look up to and make proud, and every year he thought that would be the birthday that his mom would tell him he was ready and he would leave the ranch. But now with his birthday in a month and Shiva dead…he’ll never know. But he does know one thing, Shiva sent Cass to meet him for a reason, and even if she doesn’t want him they are brother and sister and that’s all he ever wanted and he is refusing to give that up now. Wow…once again Cass is at a loss for words, ever grasping at the right thing to say. And unfortunately she will have to wait until later as the sword from the unburied bursts through the wall, now supercharged by the blue flowers that give his people strength…ugh…cheating. But now faced with this threat, Tenji and Cass look to each other and know they can do it…together. Cass naturally leads the way as they dodge and counter swords moves before delivering the final strike and sending him back. But this only seems to invigorate their foe as the power of the blue flower radiates off his body…until suddenly his head goes flying off. Hahahaha, that’s one way to end it. The second sword from the blood clan is here. But she isn’t looking to kill them, at least not yet, and instead is looking to make them an offer, or kill them if they refuse. Whelp, can’t be worse than the supercharged brat trying to prove himself.

Its getting kind of goofy now. This should have been a mini-series. This story is dragging on too long. It was cool and exciting at first. But a different storyline or a new adventure would help this series. Maybe its just me but the story is just a dog chasing its tail now.
Better than the last issue. I had forgotten about the other swords in the previous issue, and both of them seemed more interesting then the first. I'm glad one appeared. The whole lost brother thing isn't working for me, and I do hope they're not just planning to use him to fix the whole "lady Shiva's child must die" thing.
I’m amped to see Cass fighting enemies again! Also enjoying the reveal of more family members for her. I’m curious to see how she will interact with Tenji especially
