But for Superman, the real challengeisn’t just the towering Titans—it’s his waning powers and Luthor’sever-present treachery.Meanwhile, Wonder Woman and Batman wage their own battles againstthe Suicide Squad, edging closer to uncovering Task Force X’s true planfor the creatures of G-Day Earth. And just when things seem insurmountable, Godzilla returns—this time, he’son his home turf. He’s not just looking for a fight; he’s here to defendhis realm as King of the Monsters!
Issue #3 eases off the kaiju action in favor of political maneuvering and uneasy alliances—most notably a tense and surprisingly compelling team-up between Superman and Lex Luthor. While the pacing dips and some of the dialogue drags, the issue sets the board for bigger confrontations ahead. Christian Duce’s art remains sharp and expressive, even when the monster mayhem takes a backseat. A transitional chapter with glimmers of strong character work, even if it doesn’t hit with the thunder of previous installments.
This was definitely more of a set up issue. The characters and dialogue take center stage over the kaiju and action. It does a good job setting the stage for what is to come and Duce does a great job with the art and facial expressions.
This series continues to top itself on the worst dialogue choices ever, LOL:
Lex Luthor: “When there’s a Lex there’s a way.”
I have to admit this issue was a bit of a step up, having some really good setup and world building and some funny campy action, but that doesn’t mean the dialogue and some of the choices during those fights remained seriously lacking. One thing I love this story introduces is the concept of alternate versions of all our characters that exist within the monsterverse. As it turns out, Harley fully dipped from the rest of the suicide squad to go find her counterpart in this world. Who is a very normal psychiatrist, but has no idea who Joker is or where Harley would be able to find his counterpart in this world. But once Harley got the call that Waller was dead, Shaw took control, and their batman and Justice league has come after them in this world…then she may just have the right person to find the joker after all.
As we left the last issue Superman and Lex were in the hollow earth and faced with an entire group of giant gorillas. Which of course calls for a temporary truce to deal with the situation. But that if course also means Lex is going to take the first opportunity he can to dip out and leave Superman hanging, especially as Lex knows Superman is weak down here. Lex got away and Superman almost ended up squashed if it wasn’t for his freeze breath and the minimal strength he has left to get away.
Elsewhere batman and an injured flash who took a bullet last issue are dealing with the problem of communicating back to the league. All the equipment they need is in the bat mech they left behind, so of course flash, even while injured (which is stupid because of super healing sense he still has a connection to the speed force) jumped up and ran over to the mech to get way they need…only to get a surprise attack from cheetah! Who quickly backed off once Kong walked up on them! Upon not hearing anything back over the radio, Mr Terrific decided to open the portal to let Hal Jordon through to help out…only for the portal to open up right next to Kong! All the while Lex and Shaw have made their way to the crystals in the hollow earth with life force energy they intend to extract.
Spinning out of the fight with the squad, Wonder Woman has been captured and chained by enchantress and is in her way back to their base. Immediately upon arriving to the commandeered monarch ship, Diana uses her powers to break the magic spell. Revealing that she was faking to find their base and supergirl was following behind the entire time! As you can imagine, these two powerhouses made quick work of the villains and peacemaker folded hilariously quickly. What isn’t so funny is that black manta was the only one to get away because he is too fast in the water. TOO FAST FOR SUPERGIRL?! REALLY?! GIVE ME A BREAK! Either way, the two end JL finding a monarch scientist and set her free in time to receive a call from batman on his findings with Lex and Shaw’s monster experiments on the squad members. And with Lex moving onto the next phase that does not bode well for Superman. As we jump over to check on Superman and end the issue out, he has just enough strength to fly out of the hollow earth and back to the surface. Which really does take a TON of strength. But right as he flew out of the portal…he ran right into Godzilla. REMATCH TIME! The pain never ends, hahahaha!

I am enjoying this series, however, I am tired of seeing Supes depowered when he is away from a yellow sun for 5 minutes or on another Earth. Is that the only way to make his stories challenging? Seems a cheap way to make his storylines go...
The issue calms down from going balls to the wall. This was an issue that moved the plot forward. There was action but not to the same level. Great comic tho! It’s still very good.
