Setting off for the big smoke with only a small suitcase to her name, she is determined to seize this unexpected opportunity while her sweetheart is away fighting in Europe. And it also brings her closer to the mystery of where Alice is, her best friend who moved to London and disappeared without trace.

But within Rosa’s first few weeks in post, a grave accusation leaves her position in peril. And when salacious rumours regarding Alice’s disappearance begin circulating, she must decide where her loyalties lie.

I really enjoy reading historical fiction and I am a big fan of The Crown, so I was excited to read this book.
I really liked Rosa's character and the journey that we go on with her. It was good to see her spread her wings and she was so strong and brave, despite everything that she had been through. Her dedication to her jobs, as well as family and friends was so evident throughout and was heartwarming to read.
There were some really nice relationships throughout the book, particularly Rosa's relationship with Jane & Huw. Theirs was so touching and heartfelt to read about and I am so glad they didn't hold her back.
The settings of the book were really good and you could almost imagine yourself there. From the small streets of Wales, to the grandeur of the palace, I really liked the diversity between the two. Some of these moments were very atmospheric, especially in regards to the bombing and these were told well and you could almost imagine yourself there.
There were some twists along the way which I was not expecting, especially in regards to Alice and this was a tough and heart breaking read in places. Rosa was so devoted and determined during this period and really showed her true character.
I am really looking forward to the second book in the series and hope to see more of the palace then.

Lots of heartbreak and drama in her life, it was quite a read, didn’t feel very realistic but still a different read.
