Wings & Whispers

Accidentally Ever After

Rate this book
A fairy prince with a contract. A human who really should have read the fine print.

I was just trying to make rent. Cater a fancy fairy wedding, smile at the guests, don’t steal any of the silverware—easy enough.

Or so I thought.

Somewhere between passing hors d’oeuvres and signing the invoice, I apparently agreed to marry the groom’s brother. Who, as it turns out, is not just any fairy, but the fairy prince.

Now I’m being whisked off to some glittering palace I can’t pronounce, expected to wear clothes that look more like lingerie than actual outfits, and introduced as “His Highness’s cherished consort” to an entire court of pointy-eared aristocrats who all hate me.

And the prince?

Caelen is gorgeous, infuriating, and way too good at making me blush. He keeps insisting this was “destiny,” and it’s his royal duty to show me exactly what being a consort entails.

Including—apparently—his bed.

I told myself I’d find a way out of this. But the more time I spend at his side, the more I start to wonder if I really want to. Because underneath all the silk and sharp smiles, Caelen is something I never mine.

Callie is a romance author who believes every love story deserves a happy ending — and a little heat along the way. When she’s not writing, Callie can be found hunting for the perfect vintage teacup, baking wildly over-decorated cupcakes, and choreographing impromptu kitchen dance parties to 80s pop hits. She lives with an ever-growing collection of romance paperbacks, a mischievous cat named Biscuit, and a firm conviction that love — like sprinkles — makes everything better.

this is AI slop

This "author" released four books within 7 days. The covers are bad AI. don't read this. It's all written with AI. Embarrassing

AI generated.

It’s even alluded to on the copyright page. I thought this was a fun concept and was excited. I’m very disappointed, and I hope the ‘author’ is ashamed of even trying to call this a book.

No rating, zero stars. Why? Because I came here to say how incredibly off and soulless, empty and banal this book was. Copy and paste thousands of exact books, just change the names and location details as you go. I spent thirty minutes debating rote, passionless books with my teenager because I was so disappointed and annoyed.

But I was still going to give it a solid 2.5/5. Mid, just like the absolute height of this book’s stats. I was going to say that this book reminds me of someone who likes to look like they read at the beach, so they downloaded a basic, easily skimmed though title, with minimal actual attention or care that still gives an outline of a story, versus being someone who genuinely loves to dive into a fantastic book as they waller around in the beach life, the atmosphere adding to whatever enthralling story they’ve chosen to complement it.

I was going to leave it at that and move the fuck on, hopefully to something better because I’ve been whiffing HARD lately and I need a win. I suspected, but was going to try to be nice like I have been trying to do lately every time I suspect foul writing.

I was.

Then I came on here and found out that my habit of letting the kindle app on my iPad skip the first bits and bobs of a book was to my detriment—immediately after the same shit happened with the last book I read (that one was a trad pub from Tor and it was not my intention to ever read from them again)— because I could’ve learned sooner that this is definitely an AI book. No wonder it was a fucking disaster AND not worth the time I wasted on it. No wonder I got the ick and couldn’t shake it. So disappointed in myself and the fact that this is available to purchase, as fodder for scamming the public. I should’ve heeded the vibes when I got four sentences in. Don’t make my mistakes. Do better for yourselves.

I thought something fishy was up about this book when there were so many plot holes and weird grammar and dialogue inconsistencies, but I put it down to poor writing. Then I read some reviews and went back to the copywrite page:
"Callie Colby retains the moral right to claim this work"
Wtf.
So it's written with AI and then an 'author' claims they own it.
Right.

While catering a wedding, Blake is tricked into signing a marriage contract with the fairy prince Caelen. Throughout the book, they learn about each other and overcome obstacles. This book was ok, however there was one glaring contadiction that prevented me from really enjoying the book. The person who tricked Blake into signing the marriage contract was Caelen's father. However throughout the whole book he was trying to break them up and clearly thought Blake was beneath them. Why would he trick Blake into signing if he was just going to break them up later. To me this was a fundamental contradiction because the initial signing of the contract was the basis of the whole plot. There may have been some deeper reason that may have made the contradictions make sense but it was not apparent to me. Additionally, the whole reason why the two main characters met, Caelen's brothers wedding, his brother was not mentioned once the rest of the book until the end, almost as an afterthought. And why did his brother have an intricate wedding while Caelen did not? I guess there were just too many plot holes for me to enjoy this more. Spice level: 1

I’ve read worse, but I wouldn’t say the series is good..

My review is for the whole series and not this particular book. Overall I would have to say I’m conflicted.

It gets annoying when a character knows something they shouldn’t, something happens that was blatantly described as not possible, or things are repeated as though they haven’t already been said 2 chapters before.

The stories themselves aren’t bad necessarily.. but they aren’t an example of good writing. From one book to another and even chapter to chapter it’s like the author forgot what she already wrote down and added whatever came to mind. No fact checking. They almost read like they’re in different universes instead of like different courts of fairies. It gets really confusing and makes it hard to enjoy what’s good about each. book

I don’t know, do with that what you will but the series definitely has issues that take away from enjoying the books. I would almost rather each of these being completely separate worlds so that I could forgive the lack of consistency.

Very good

The storyline was unique, the MCs were likeable and funny, and the world building was very well done for a short story. I really enjoyed this story & will be recommending it. The only thing that kept this from being a 4 were the unanswered/unaddressed questions:

1. Near the end, it was mentioned that Caelan’s sister had their mother’s hair and skin color. But this was the first & only time the mother was mentioned. Where was she, deceased?
2. It was mentioned that King Orion had ruled for millennia. Also, Caelan had centuries of practice wearing his armor. How long do they live? Are they immortal? Do they rule until death?
3. How long will Blake live, now that he’s in Caelan’s world?
4. Does Blake not have any family? When he mentions his previous life all he mentions is his business and his friends.
5. (Spoiler) Why have King Orion trick Blake into the marriage only to later have him challenge the marriage by saying it wasn’t authentic due to trickery?

As much as I love this series, I wasn’t really a fan of this one. Not to say it’s a bad story, but its premise was unsettling to me. A human caterer is tricked into signing a magically binding marriage contract with a fairy prince. Perhaps it was my predisposition to think ill of the basis of the story that spoiled it for me, but it’s just not for me. It also, partially, did not make sense to me. The fairy king is the one that tricked Blake into signing the contract and then turned around and opposed it on the basis he was human. It’s confusing. I’m willing to admit that my, already established, idea that I wouldn’t like the book probably colored my final opinion. But such as it is, the bones and characters are good. It just wasn’t for me.

If AI was used to write this then it makes sense why the story is so inconsistent. The fairy is the brother of the groom yet later on he’s the brother of the bride. Then the father tricks the human to marry the prince but later through the story he’s against it. Also matchmaker kept being brought up again and again with no explanation why it was used. I read half of it and skimmed the rest. So if this is AI generated I wouldn’t waste my time on this book. The premise would have been interesting to read if only a real author wrote it.

Blake and Caelan

Blake caters a fancy fairy wedding and signs the papers by the king that marry him to the Crown Prince. they try to make their relationship work until the king realizes they are becoming too politically powerful and tries to break them apart. he uses the legal argument Blake didn't know what he signed. that part was weird.

it's a slow falling in love in the fae Realm situation.

3.5 stars When a caterer signs for the final bill at a very special wedding, he discovers he's been tricked into signing a betrothal to someone he's never met - a fairy prince. As they spend time together, though, he discovers Je might not care how their engagement began and will even fight against the faction that is against him to keep his fated love. Cute, and I love the way the wings are used in this series.

This book was incredibly disappointing. I thought the blurb sounded really interesting but this book is terrible. This was either written by a very lazy author who didn’t think readers would notice giant plot holes, or this was written by AI. So much if the dialog and descriptions are just repeated over and over again. The plots holes are so big you could fly a 737 through them. I will not be reading any other books by this author.

Cute concept but not very well written and seems like an AI book.

Alot of the same sentences were repeated over and over again and the plot and pacing were all over the place. While I was reading it, it just seemed like a poorly written book but the more I looked back at it the more AI it seemed. And based on the quantity of books this 'Author' has published in the past two years, it seems unlikley that an actual person is writting these and a lot of the others reviews seem to agree.

That was....not good. If this was actually written by a person, then I'm sorry, but it felt like AI.
If you really want to give the book a go, I recommend reading the E-Book vs the Audiobook. Why would you ever chose a female AI voice for a MM romance. Just why??

What a way to start a new series!

Prince Caelen is such a protective sweetheart and his description of him is just BEAUTIFUL! 🥰😍

The plot was so good! (F*ck the king though. Hated his guts.)
The smut was *chef's kiss* and soooo spicy!
Don't get my started on the Light Festival!

I cannot wait to continue this series!

Super sweet

I normally prefer more meaty stories, but every now and then I want something light and fluffy. This book is exactly that. Perfect for a destressing session with a nice cup of tea.

While the idea of getting accidentally engaged to a fae prince is right up my alley, the fact that this is so clearly AI slop brings down my rating. I finished this and another book on kindle before realizing it was actual AI and not a newbie writer just reusing dialogue.

I really liked this book. 4 stars for rating, 2.5 for spice. Caelen was very sweet and so patient with the human tossed unexpectedly into the situation. And that Festival of Lights sounded so cool (and sexy).

This was a fun little story that definitely felt like a queer little story taking detail from ACOTAR, with the wings and the paint at that party and the fey deals and all. Caelen and Blake were cute and a fun time. Not much made a lot of sense, though, because Caelen's father tricked Blake into mating his son, and then was made that his son was mated to a human?

I liked it pretty well- mostly cute by the end. I know there are more books in the series, I may read more but nothing really dragged me into the storyline super deeply but it wasn't bad.

This was my first time read for this author and I really enjoyed it. Blake and Caelen are a truly opposites in every way... and even though Blake is stunned and shocked by being whisked away to this world, he can't help but feel the draw to Caelen. Defying all the odds thrown at them, they find each other and make it through.
Can't wait to read the next.

Okay so hear me out. This book was not it for me BECAUSE it’s not dual POV and there’s a lot of closed door romance. So TO ME I feel like I was missing a bunch of info, like how did Caelen feel about how sneaky his dad was, having a human consort and court affairs? Also why was his dad trying to kick out Blake when it was the KING HIMSELF who tricked him into signing the contract?? If wing touching is reserved for mostly private, how did Caelen feel when Blake accidentally brushed it at the wedding? How could their bond go deeper after sex if they already had sex? I also don’t think I got a clear picture in my head about how Blake looked only Caelen and the other fairies so some parts he seemed athleticly built and then another time he’s sucking in his stomach. So that threw me a couple times. The storyline and writing are very good tho.

Not that I haven't read worse from some "authors" but if this story was written by AI like some of the reviews say, the moment we stop using our heads and common sense, we might as well stop calling ourselves human beings. Additionally, even if it was an AI story or not, numerous inconsistencies tell me that nobody bothered reading the book before "publishing". Do you know what the word editor means? The story is basically a non-consent overridden by "magic". Not my jam, no communication = no good.

On to my next adventure, Happy Readings!!!
