This bio says Muir last saw his father when the father was near death, others say he last saw him when John was just about to start his trek to Florida. This bio also mentions a pet St. Bernard named Carlo that joined him on his walks, don't remember reading of him in other books.

Writes more of Muir in Martinez than any book i've read and explains how the great Mountain Man ended up dying in an LA hospital.
