When BD, Deano and the others escaped to the school, they hoped for a moment’s respite. But nothing was further from their reach.
A misjudgement of trust, a plan gone awry and the ever-expanding legions of the undead filling the streets mean they’re forced to act fast to avoid a fresh disaster.
But haste and safety rarely make good bedfellows and their bid for a new start will come at a cost.
Will this be the end for them all? Or can they fight on to live another day?
I was born and raised in Leeds, West Yorkshire. Wanting to escape life in a big city and concentrate more on working to live than living to work, I moved to the Outer Hebrides in the north-west of Scotland in 2004 and I have lived there ever since with my wife and dogs.
I write post-apocalyptic, sci-fi, dystopian and horror fiction. I’ve released fifty one books across six different series - Safe Haven, The End of Everything, Unsafe, Relentless, The Burning Tree and Scares in Scotland.
In addition, most of my titles are now available as audiobooks narrated by Kim Bretton, so if you’re one of the many people who struggle to find the time to read, you can listen on the go.

Didn't expect another book in this series. Only finished book 3 a few weeks ago and thought that was probably the end, so was interested to see where the story went in this one.
In this fourth instalment, we're back with BD, Deano and the gang. We pick up pretty much where we left off, with them in the tour bus near the school after they set fire to the scrapyard. The school becomes compromised and they have to move on yet again.
As was my complaint in my review for book 2, it lacks a little depth. I still don't know what anybody really looks like.
This is a little slow to start and only picked up in the second half of the book. Didn't hold my attention as much as the first 3 books. The humour also seemed to be lacking in this one, it wasn't quite as funny.
Overall, I found this one a bit of a struggle to get through.
What a way to tug at the heartstrings and keep you on the edge of your seat in the space of one book. I feel these books keep getting better as the series progresses. The danger is amped up yet again, and we get to delve more into the characters who were in the background for the first 3 books.
The other books were slow to start, had a small build up in the middle, and then a big bang at the end, this one was slow for a little bit, then went boom and just didn't stop at all. I loved seeing other sides to BD, Poppy, and Derek throughout this one, and I enjoyed that it has a more serious undertone than the other 3.
The Rocky storyline was shocking as I expected him and his brother to last right to the end (whenever that may be). It was a heartbreaking thing to see Lilli's reaction as she has been one of the most stoic characters to date. I will miss him and I wonder who will be beside Aldo going forward.
The ending of this book left everything wide open. Where will they head next, who are the new characters, what happens with Riley, and which main character is going to die next? (We know it'll happen).
I adore this book, I know other people might complain that it's a little simplistic and the characters are described enough, or the settings are a bit immature but I love that the story itself drives the book, and all you need is your imagination to run wild with it.
10/10

Deano, BD and the group have to leave the scrapyard after an attack by their enemies. They head to the school hoping for a place that is safe but of course that doesn't happen. They realize there are zombies in the sewers below them and there's a high risk of flooding. During plans to leave a selfish mistake ends up with a horrifying battle against the dead and a great loss of life. Will they ever find a place that is safe from the dead and their enemy? Another great character driven, emotionally charged tale by Artinian.
I like the scrapyard family. They stick together and have each others backs. The other part of the story with the Prime Minister is bland. He's being protected but the world is being overrun with zombies and everyone else is trying to survive. I'm wondering if they'll meet up. We knew something was gonna happen at the school but I wasn't expecting that. So far Unsafe is living up to the title. In the apocalypse there's really nowhere to go that's safe from zombies or humans.
If you have read Christopher’s other works in this world, the end of everything and safe haven you may be slightly disappointed as this series doesn’t seem to have the same depth as those….yet. But having followed Christopher for a while now I know how his storylines can slowly draw you in until you are desperate to turn the next page. I have had many late nights due to the end of everything/safe haven and I am sure unsafe won’t let me down either.
From one crisis to the next, through the characters in this book the story continues to unfold, with drama and imagery you won’t forget. From smiles to tears, laughter to despair, this rollercoaster ride never makes you want to flick forward a few paragraphs - you want to devour every word. Can’t wait for more!
This book is so well written and the story just flows. It does tie in to the Safe Haven series so if you haven’t read them yet, then ask yourself what you are waiting for!!!
Laughter, Crying, Anger, Scared, feeling it all in Unsafe Book 4. So well written that you actually become a part of the story. Mr Artinian always has such great characters in his stories that they become family and remembered long after the book has ended. Bring on the next one.
Just need the next book. The story takes your imagination into a place where you can feel the pain, suffering, and joy they are going through each day. Love the way Christopher brings characters from his other books in this universe so easily. Love it!..
All of the characters are building their own storylines from highs to lows and with the threat from the infected there is still the threat of a criminal faction with revenge in mind
Character growth is in abundance with this one and can’t wait to see where the criminal element of the story goes Kim never ceases to amaze me with her talented narration These are highly reviewed for a reason. Definitely put on at the top of your to read list.
This was another fine installment to this series. I have really come to care about Deanos group. They are really brave and caring people. I can't wait to read more.
Is there plans for a Book 5+? If 4 was the ending it is a strange ending in that many existing questions are unanswered. I had to go back twice for the last two chapters to see if I miiss
Never disappoints, I have so much I could say but I won’t because it would be full of spoilers, another epic journey in an apocalyptic world. My favourite author ever! You can’t help but get invested in the lives of the characters. Some hair raising moments, these books have it all, excitement, amusement, fear, surprise, affection, suspense, terrifying at times for this close knit group. Can’t wait for more and to see how it will fit in with Safe Haven (another Epic series)
