An occasional publication by Grimshaw Architects. A collection of essays by members of Grimshaw and friends based on a theme, aiming to promote an ecologically sustainable approach to the built environment. Published with ISBN #: 978-0-9825875-0-8
I write as a past employee of Grimshaw and whilst I was familiar with some projects, I knew little or nothing of others. I'm also pleased that a couple of my old illustrations made it into the book.
The essays shed light on the stories behind some of Grimshaw's projects. All the writers have been directly involved with their subjects and whilst the usual themes and insights are included there has been a real effort to step beyond the familiar sound bites and tell a little more about the process, concerns and drivers behind the projects (aspects often not familiar to even the clients...)
This is generally for Grimshaw fans; it's certainly written for industry insiders and will appeal mostly to other Architects. But reading this now it's aged a little, gives some perspective; It provides a great reference point in time as to the state of the ideas and design tools in use during the projects concerned.
This is a good book and more than just the publicity tool that it could have ended up as.
