Secrets built this republic; one truth could burn it down.

High Priestess Kerasea Vestal has spent her life hiding the truth―that she’s the last surviving heir of the magical bloodline the republic slaughtered. One wrong step could be fatal. But when a senator is brutally killed and a temple blade is found at the scene, all eyes turn to her.

Praetorian Torren Morvane has made a career of dragging liars into the light, and Kerasea is the one person he’s vowed to ruin. But locked on a mountain with a murderer, scheming senators, and a prophecy of death, he’s forced to work at her side. The closer he gets, the more dangerous the truth―and their attraction―becomes.

With traitors closing in and a nation on the verge of shattering, Kerasea and Torren must risk everything to uncover the real killer…even if it means trusting their sworn enemy.

I reviewed an ARC received via the Edelweiss platform.

Wow. I already know this is going to be one of my favorite books of the year. Without a doubt, a 5-star read for me.

I absolutely fell in love with Mai Corland’s storytelling when I read Five Broken Blades (and then immediately rushed to binge the next two in the series), so when I heard she was combining two of my favorite genres, murder mystery and fantasy, I was ecstatic! Verity Guild did not disappoint. Genuinely, if I tried to conceptualize a book tailored to everything I personally love in a story, I don’t think I could come up with something this good.

Our protagonist, High Priestess Kerasea Vestal, finds herself entangled in the mystery surrounding the death of a senator. The case is investigated by Praetorian Torren Morvane, who has a complicated relationship with Kerasea. I loved both of these characters and the way we slowly peel back their layers, revealing their shared history and their true selves, not just the versions the rest of Pryor believes them to be. One of my favorite things about Mai’s writing is how real her characters feel, and how intimately we come to know them by the end.

The story takes place primarily in a former palace, with a fraught political past. It’s such a perfect setting for a locked-door mystery—opulent and lush, yet tinged with something forgotten and eerily secluded. You can feel the emptiness of a massive, impressive space occupied by only a handful of guests. The scale and maze-like layout make for some incredibly tense moments.

I also loved the political intrigue and strategy woven throughout. I was constantly guessing at motives and trying to assess who might have secret alliances. The cast of characters is so well drawn, you suspect one person in one chapter and completely second-guess yourself in the next. It’s a genuinely twisty tale, and I absolutely did not expect for the story to take me where it did.

This book has everything: mystery, magic, murder, and just the right kind of spice. With the recent rise of romantasy, I think some authors fall into the “more is better” trap. Different strokes for different folks, but for me, I want spice when it makes sense. When it deepens relationships and serves the story. When it feels forced or gratuitous, it can pull me right out of the narrative. Mai absolutely nails the balance here.

Now excuse me while I go spread the good word of Mai Corland to anyone who will listen!

Vertiy Guild by Mai Corland is the fantasy detective story you didn't know you needed. It is definitely for fans of Crescent City and Heartless Hunter who love a little fantasy with their murder mystery. It is set in a word inspired by ancient Rome, following the overthrow and extermination of the magical Elusion bloodline. I found the murder mystery in a fantasy dynamic to be very captivating, and I was drawn into the story from the first chapter.

The characters find themselves locked into a castle during the conclave where the senators will vote on all of the laws and decisions for the republic following the death of the senate leader. The High Priestess and Praetorian are in attendance as well as leader of the faith and protector of the senate. However, the murders don't stop while sequestered in a castle, and the Praetorean has his eyes set on the High Priestess.

Did you love Gideon Sharpe from Heartless Hunter? Meet Torren, the common born Praetorian whose job is to protect the sentators, and a respected member of the Verity Guild - a group of three who oversees cases of high treason. Torren is a detective through and through, and as the murders pile up, he is racing against time to find the killer. If he doesn't, he will likely be removed as Praetorian and could be sentenced to death. Not of noble birth, he needs to maintain his position of power.

Kerasea is the High Priestess of the god of truth. She is held in the highest ranks and revered among all. She is young, having been forced into the position after her fathers death, but she is doing her best. She is being framed for the murders that take place in this book, and she works her own angles to let truth prevail. But can she do is without disclosing all of her secrets?

I found the active roll the gods take within the society to be unique and captivating. The gods are worshipped and revered, but they also make themselves known through the High Priestess and it's not based on blind faith. There are acts of god that are witnessed and honored. The power of the temple is offset by the Senate, elected by the people. But power corrupts, and it is no different in the Republic of Pryor.

This is a great book. It is fun to read, action packed, and flows like a criminal investigative show. I wish that the book had a pronunciation guide at the front. There is a list of characters and a map but I'm still not positive how to pronounce "Kerasea." I also was a bit thrown off by the descriptions of the male attire in this book - they wore togas, leather skirts with shorts underneath, and then also suit jackets and pants - the latter of which felt a bit inconsistent with the times, but I guess I don't really know when suit jackets and pants became widely available. It didn't take way from the story but felt inconsistent.

Read this book if you love:
Slow Burn
Enemies to Lovers
Criminal Investigation shows
Tension
Forced Proximity
Murder Mysteries
Class Disparity
Hidden Identity (not from the reader)

OH MY GOODNESS GRACIOUS. I mean… just… I was at least right about one major thing so that counts as a win, considering how many plot twists this book had lol! This book hooked me in from the very beginning & had me on the edge of my seat the entire time — I hated having to put it down!

First off, I LOVE Kera & Tor. like, so much, and I have a few of my own theories about both of them that weren’t answered in this first book, so I’m already anxious & looking forward to book two! the ONLY bad thing about arc reading is that you’re already dying for the next book before the first is even released😅 but that just speaks to the author’s uncanny ability to keep you that invested! …and invested, I was!

This is a slow burn romantasy, but it was also a murder mystery & had a lot of suspense along with everything else that comes with romantasy, and I mean it when I say I hated having to put it down!

🫶🏼 thank you, Red Tower Books for the gifted physical copy! all thoughts are my own

This is my first experience reading one of Mai’s books, and I truly can say that she did not disappoint from everything that I’ve been hearing. The writing was so dynamic and she really brought these characters to life on the page. I love dual POV when you’re doing a romance novel specifically because it just adds so much more context and depth. She did such a good job of bouncing back-and-forth and weaving in the different elements throughout the story for each character.

The world building and Court intrigue of this story was very complex and still easy to follow in my opinion. I loved the magic system and our FMC is really starting to uncover who she is. This book does end on a cliffhanger so know that going in. I will definitely be continuing this series when book 2 comes out. I truly enjoyed reading this book and recommend it for anyone who enjoys fantasy, books with magic, political intrigue, mysteries/Whodunnit vibes. There is some on page violence so definitely read your trigger warnings.

I had an insane amount of fun reading Verity Guild. Like—actually feral, pacing-my-room, “just one more chapter” kind of fun. This book is basically a murder mystery wrapped in a fantasy setting and I was EATING IT UP. I was suspicious of EVERYONE. Trust? Gone. Peace? Nonexistent. I needed to know who did it immediately.

Mai Corland really said “I will give you clues but I will also make you spiral” and she delivered. The hints are there, you can piece things together, but it never ruins the mystery. I was locked in, fully unwell, side-eyeing every character like they personally wronged me.

AND THEN THAT ENDING??? I genuinely thought this was a standalone so imagine me, already emotionally invested, turning the last pages and getting smacked in the face with a cliffhanger the size of a building. I sat there. In silence. Processing betrayal. Book one isn’t even officially out yet and I’m already suffering waiting for book two???

Kera and Tor??? Oh I’m OBSESSED. Tor is that grumpy, hates-everyone-except-her type and I will NEVER get tired of that trope. Oh he’s rude to the entire world but soft for her?? Inject it into my veins. I will eat that every single time, no questions asked. Meanwhile Kera’s character development?? Chef’s kiss. Watching her grow into herself was so satisfying and I NEED her to go even harder with her powers in book two. Also I have QUESTIONS about her origins and I expect answers!!!

Also can we talk about the setting?? Murder mystery but make it ancient Roman-inspired fantasy?? Why is this not a whole genre already??? We need MORE of this immediately.

My only gripe—and it’s not even really on the author—is the whole “romantasy” label. This is NOT that. The romance is there, sure, but it is very much playing backup dancer to the murder mystery. The vibes are mystery first, yearning second. Publishers need to calm down with the romantasy stamp on everything.

Anyway, 4.5 stars, I had the time of my life, and now I’m left here emotionally compromised waiting for book two like a clown.

The ultimate betrayal is just the beginning in Verity Guild. Set against the visceral, chaotic backdrop of Ancient Rome in the immediate aftermath of the Ides of March, Mai Corland delivers a high-stakes historical fantasy that is as atmospheric as it is dangerous.

This was easily one of my most anticipated releases of the year. I dropped everything when I saw that Netgalley and entangled granted me an early copy, and I can happily say it did not disappoint. The tension of a city in ruin provides the perfect stage for a plot layered with "deadly games" and deep-seated secrets.

What impressed me most was the mystery; Corland balances the political maneuvering with a genuine "whodunit" that kept me second-guessing every character’s motives until the very end. The romance is a true slow-burn—the kind that builds beautifully alongside the primary plot without overshadowing the gravity of the setting.

I am already anxious for the second book!

Verity Guild officially releases on May 5th, and it is a must-read for fans of historical intrigue and sharp, calculated world-building.

Recommended if you enjoy:
• Setting: Ancient Rome (Post-Ides of March chaos)
• Tropes: Slow Burn Romance, Political Intrigue, Deadly Games
• Vibe: Murder Mystery meets Fantasy Romance

Thank you to Entangled Publishing/Red Tower Books and Mai Cortland for the eARC in exchange for an honest review. My opinions are my own.

It's been ages since I've read a classic "locked room" mystery, and with its palpable tension, ruthless cast of characters, and touch of magic, Verity Guild instantly reminded me of how much I enjoy them. The story is told from two points of view: Kerasea Vestal, a newly-appointed high priestess who is harboring a dangerous secret, and Torren Morvane, the lethal Praetorian guard whose reputation for brutality makes people quake in fear. The two have a history that spans decades, with a simmering hatred lingering between them that lingers even now. Assigned to attend a conclave in which a group of senators make decisions that affect the entire realm, Kera and Torren must navigate the glittering opulence of the conclave while engaging with senators who each have their own hidden agenda. As the conclave is sealed, no one can go in or out of the facility, so when a series of murders happens at the very place they've been assured is secure, everyone becomes a suspect, especially when power is on the line. Kera and Torren must now decide whether they'll work together and put the past aside in order to find the killer, even when each suspects the other may have done it.

What I loved about this novel:

--I am a sucker for stories inspired by ancient Rome, and the author does such an incredible job at bringing this setting to life. From the opulence of the forum to the elaborate costumes to the descriptions of political debate, the setting leaps off the page, making it easy to immerse yourself in the story. Even more so, the descriptions of class disparity and the disdain the senators have for the very people they're supposed to "serve" is so relevant today.

--The slow build of suspicion and tension as we examine the suspects one at a time. Part of what makes a great "whodunnit" is when you have suspicions but you can't be sure, or when a great twist leaves your jaw hanging on the ground. What I really enjoyed about the structure of this novel is that even when I thought "oh, yeah, that person is TOTALLY the killer," a few chapters (or even pages!) later, there was an encounter that ruled them out...only to make them suspicious yet again in the next chapter or two. It really kept me on my toes, and I found myself sneaking pages at work just so I could see what happened next!

--The tension and attraction between Kera and Torren. This novel plays with the enemies-to-lovers trope in a tantalizing way, especially since the conclave isn't the first time Kera and Torren have interacted. Perception and misconceptions figure prominently in the first third of the novel, and I found it interesting that with the dual-POV structure, what we see from one character's eyes could be interpreted in a completely different way in the other's. Even though Kera and Torren find themselves attracted to each other, that attraction remains conflicted in a "I want you, but I shouldn't" way that's deliciously angsty. Torren, in particular, is broody and angry and every inch the ruthless guard, but yet we learn that his moral code is stronger than some of the sinister senators, and his childhood trauma informs the way he behaves now, especially toward Kera.

--The final reveal. As with all locked room novels, we eventually learn the killer's identity and motivations, but that reveal comes with even more questions, all leading up to a blockbuster cliffhanger that immediately made me go "WHAT??? BUT YOU CAN'T END IT NOW!" It goes without saying that I'll be immediately reading book 2 when it's released!

I think you'll love this book if you're a fan of twisted, serpentine mysteries where everyone is a suspect and each new clue begs a new question; romantic tension that sizzles until reaching a boiling point, and a hearty dose of political intrigue. This was a fun, compulsive read that kept me guessing 'til the end, and I cannot WAIT for book 2 to come out!

I received an advance copy of this book at no charge. This is my honest, voluntary review.

Mai Corland has gifted us another treat. This time we have murders to solve, political quagmires to avoid, and some steamy feelings to ignore.

So yes, this was a good time, and barring, you know, life stuff, it can be read in one sitting and thoroughly enjoyed. Well, until you get to that ending! Wow! What a way to leave readers needing more!

Overall, the characters and their backstories are really what stood out for me. Specifically, the way they blended into the world built. All of them gave me different aspects of the world and shared a complex view that engrossed me.

In Verity Guild, we have a priestess and a head soldier whose worlds collide because of closed-door murders. They have many reasons not to get along, but that chemistry is impossible to resist. Watching them draw slowly together was fun. If you love a slow burn with extenuating circumstances, you will love this! Because their reasons to stay apart are diabolical, but that chemistry would not give them a chance to breathe!

Then you have the scheming politicians. They were unpredictable. You never knew what they were going to use their power for next, and they kept throwing the investigations sideways.

But to be honest, what really sold me on this story was its foundation. The how of how we ended up with these politicians. The formation of the nation itself. There were so many secrets and intricate betrayals, I felt as though I could not be sure about anyone, even the characters I liked.

And that feeling was valid right up to the last sentence, which left me worried and in shock. As any excellent series starter should.

This is another hit book for Mai Corland. It was a pleasure reading it, and I cannot wait to see where this series and these characters go.

I am not a mystery girly at allll, so this one took me by surprise and was so enjoyable! Romantasy genre blending has been a common win for me in 2026, notably with The Winged Game and Weavingshaw before this. Anywhoodles, I had to sit and wonder how I’d rate this, as it’s my first romantasy whodunnit, and the closest thing I can compare it to is Weavingshaw with a kiss of Heartless Hunter.

The pacing was phenomenal, yet every sentence mattered, so I felt like a tortoise racing to the end of this book. This tortoise was in a book slump, and her last few books may have included a bit of impatient skimming toward the end. Who knew that a murder mystery was all I needed? Mai forced me to slow down and hyper analyze every interaction, and the slump is over 🎉

I’m left with a sense of vast potential after the ending. There’s a LOT of story left to tell, and book one exists in one place over a very short period of time. I’m excited to see where Mai can take us after witnessing what she can orchestrate within one building. These characters never had a break, and we are only beginning to truly know them.

As a slow burn girly, the romance is ultimately what’s keeping this from being a 5 star read for me. A little less lust up front and perhaps fewer of Tor’s thoughts on Kera may have created a larger pay-off for me when they do catch feelings, but I’m still invested in them by the end and definitely want to see how all these secrets play out as they enter a new arena.

Tor’s a simp, and I think we can all get with it. Kera is a lovely fmc, but also cool as all hell. 4.5 ⭐! Thank you so much to Mai Corland, NetGalley, and Entangled for the opportunity to read this book early 💛

Thank you to Red Tower Books for the advance reader copy.

GUYS. I finished this book and I STILL don’t know who did it.

At one point I genuinely thought my copy was missing a chapter or something because HOW am I this confused 😭 I only guessed one twist, and I’m usually pretty good at figuring things out. So yes, this is an easy 5 stars.

The setting? Ancient Rome-inspired, full of power-hungry politicians, political tension, and secrets everywhere. The leader of the country is murdered, and then during the annual gathering in the mountains… another murder. And somehow, all the evidence points to the High Priestess.

Kerasea Vestal (FMC) is young, newly in power after her father’s death, and suddenly at the center of everything. Watching her navigate that pressure, suspicion, and danger was so compelling.

Torren, the Praetorian assigned to investigate, starts off convinced she’s guilty… but the more he digs, the more things don’t add up. And the more he realizes she’s being framed. And THEN the feelings start creeping in 👀

The tension??? So good. This is enemies to lovers done right — slow burn, suspicious, layered, and full of underlying chemistry.

This book has everything:
mystery, magic, murder, political intrigue… and just the right amount of spice.

I also loved how well the balance was handled. With so much romantasy out there, it can feel like more spice is always the goal, but for me it only works when it actually means something. Here, it felt intentional and added to the story, and Mai really nailed that.

Also: do not trust anyone in this book. Seriously.

I stayed up way too late telling myself “just one more chapter” until suddenly… I was done 😭

I NEED book two immediately. How long do I have to wait???

I received a copy of this book from the author and am honored to share this completely honest review!

I love Mai Corland's writing SO MUCH! Between trying to guess the kịller and who would be unalived next, I could not put this fast paced fantasy thriller down! The Dual POV and short chapters also made it so easy to say "one more chapter" on repeat!!

Corland seamlessly incorporates world building into the plot and introduction of characters. This is fantasy, but the fantasy elements are easy to grasp, unique, and very interesting! The more she reveals about Pryor, the more intrigued I am!

I loved that this is not your typical Romantic Fantasy at all! Yes, it has political intrigue, scheming, and forbidden magic, but it is also a locked palace murder mystery! This was my first fantasy whodunnit and now I'm eagerly awaiting book 2 when this book hasn't even been published yet!

While I was trying to piece together the clues along with the characters, I was also devouring the slow burn romance! And, oh my, when that romance ignites, it's an inferno!!!

The ending was satisfying, but it's a cliffhanger! There is still so much more to explore in this world, so many twists and turns that I'm sure are coming. And, of course, Kera and Tor's steamy relationship has only just begun!

This. Book.

I was not expecting to fall this hard for Verity Guild, but it completely pulled me in. If you love a slow-burn, enemies-to-lovers romance, look no further. The tension between the main characters is done so well that every interaction had me waiting (impatiently) for that moment.

The world-building really stood out to me. The dystopian setting mixed with court intrigue and a layered murder mystery gave it such a compelling, almost nostalgic feel for me. It really reminded me of why I fell in love with reading in the first place (took me back to my Nancy Drew days lol). There’s always something happening beneath the surface, and it keeps you guessing.

And speaking of guessing: I don’t trust anyone in this book. Every character feels like they’re hiding something, and that constant sense of unease made the story even more addictive. The ones who seem the most trustworthy? Probably the ones to watch.

The romance includes some spice, but it’s not overly graphic. It sits in that perfect middle ground… not closed-door, but not overly explicit either, which I really appreciated. It added to the tension without overshadowing the story.

Overall, I was completely hooked and already counting down the time until the next book. I will be picking it up immediately.

First of all, thank you Entangled publishing for this free ARC and the chance to dive into this new world from Mai Corland earlier than most!

This is my honest review 🫶🏼

I really enjoyed this romantasy take on a Roman-esque murder mystery where secrets, plots, scheming, political machinations and a healthy distrust for all involved abound!

This book had me second guessing everyone’s motives and had me putting every character in a firmly “morally grey” box lol

Kerasea and Torren are a slow burn couple with childhood history and connections who find themselves on opposing sides as they grow older and assume their roles in society, each of them protecting their secrets from each other and the world.

They find themselves having to set aside their differences and form a temporary truce in order to find out the truth about the killings happening around them.

A solid, fast paced read with some slow moments that left me with a lot of unanswered questions however, I am assuming will be answered in subsequent books!!
I will definitely be continuing this series :)

Thank you again, Entangled, for this free arc!

I enjoyed the Broken Blades series so I was excited to get this physical ARC. I did enjoy it, but as everyone that follows me knows, I like more romance in my romantasies and it was the same with this one. I would have liked more flirty banter since this is an enemies to lovers. There was no build up to the sex. So, that aside, I did enjoy the mystery of it. Kerasea cannot let anyone know her true bloodline and that she has magic within her. She is a High Priestess and when a senator dies the Practorian, Torren, is looking right at her. They are both suspicious of each other, but as more people are dying, they know they need to work together to solve the case. There was a lot of suspending disbelief, like there are no doctors?, when someone dies it is just assumed an accident with no real investigation, when the practorian wants to question people he just leaves them vulnerable and guess what happens to them before he can question them? This is book one and I am curious how book two will go.

-Sometimes, there's a subtle kindness in silence.

ARC review: ok so this is my first time reading a book like this and let me tell you, it was so fun! especially as someone who’s been really into true crime documentaries/podcasts lately, this murder mystery kept me intrigued and interested. I was continually guessing who dun it, and I kept changing who my top suspect was every few chapters - but that was what made me want to just keep on reading!

the strongest aspects of the book were definitely the mystery and suspense of it all. I do think the romance aspect felt weaker, especially as it was described as a slow burn romantasy. the romance seemed to progress rather suddenly at times and although Torren is the typical mmc I usually like to read about, nothing about him necessarily stood out or made me feel especially connected to his character.

I am excited to see what happens and how it all unfolds in the next book!

**thank you to Entangled Publishing for providing me with an ARC!

Verity Guild by Mai Corland 🖤 This is my very first ARC review EVER and I’m completely honored to be able to read this highly anticipated book early! 🥹 This is a 5 ⭐️ read and I loved it so much!
Verity Guild is a murder mystery Romantasy that is FULL OF SECRETS. Secret agendas, secret alliances, secret powers, secrets that have secrets… LOL. With a high dose of forced proximity and interesting characters. I found myself silently yelling at the characters and wanting to jump into the pages to intervene or join them. High Priestess Kerasea Vestal and Praetorian Torren Morvane have my heart. I hope I’m not wrong about each of them haha. 😅 Trying to figure out everyone’s agendas and motives was so much fun and kept me up past my bedtime. This book ends on a cliffhanger that had me screaming NOOOOOO at 2 AM LOL. 😲😩😭

I ate this book UP. This is the first Romantasy in a LONG time that actually hooked me in the first chapter.

There are elements of a murder mystery in this novel that made it a breath of fresh air in this genre. The mystery itself was very well done, I struggled to guess who the culprit was.

The YEARNING? Like my man wants her so bad but refuses to admit it 😭 the romance was magnificent. Honestly if you’re looking for a Romantasy that stands out from others, THIS IS IT.

I would also like to give an honorable mention to the fact that the world felt fully built, the magic system was a mystery throughout the novel which kept me intrigued, the characters felt real, and for once I had no complaints about the names of characters or countries in a Romantasy 😂

I knew within the first couple of chapters that this would be a 5 star read for me. I absolutely devoured it!

Verity Guild is a romantasy that feels so fresh and exciting!! It is a suspensful murder mystery in a Roman setting that truly leaves you guessing until the very last line. I could not predict what was going to happen next and I certainly did not predict who is responsible! (Do we even know for real? I don't even know!!). It was a delight to read.

I loved Kerasea and Torren. They both have preconceived notions about one another and secrets that they are hiding. Somehow, they become reluctant allies and the tension is absolutely delicious.

I was on the edge of my seat for the whole book and honestly I have no idea who is responsible. There is so much political maneuvering, plot twists and surprises that it was impossible to put down. I can't wait to read book 2!! Highly, highly recommend this book for fans of Heartless Hunter and This Monster of Mine.

Thank you so much to Entangled Publishing/Red Tower Books for the ARC!

The description says a spicy romantasy but 50% in and there is no spice yet, so this is definitely a slow burn. The interplay between the three main characters is intriguing. Torren definitely frustrates himself as much I get frustrated with his feelings and the I hate her, but I'm jealous of you talking to her like you want her emotions and thoughts.

The book definitely leaves you wanting read the next immediately. I felt as if nothing was really resolved and that the book ended before the story was at a good stopping point, as in it felt incomplete. I know its a series, but I usually feel each stands on its own a bit among the overarching storyline. I still loved the characters and will be reading the next one.

Oh my goodness, this book went beyond my expectations. I knew it was going to be good, coming from Mai Corland, but hands down, this was better than 5 stars! It is the locked door murder mystery romantasy you didn't know you needed. The world building is simple to understand, with court politics, great characters (ones you love and ones you detest), many unexpected twists and turns, and two reluctant allies with delicious slowburn tension. I devoured this story, couldn't put it down....in fact, I didn't realize the last page was the LAST PAGE! I kept swiping my kindle...that ending1 WHAT? I will be preordering book 2 as soon as it's available.
I received an arc of this book and all opinions are my own.

I loved Mai's Five Blades trilogy and have had this one marked for a must read since it was announced. So I was stoked when I got an ARC to be able to read it early. It did not disappoint. It's like a fantasy version of the game of Clue. A murder mystery where they are all locked in one place with no outside help or ability to escape. Kera and Torren are both strong characters with complicated histories that overlap, and secrets that they can't share. Their connection is wary, but necessary, especially as the murders keep happening and they can't trust anyone else. They end up having to rely on each other since they are surrounded by corrupt people in power who would do anything to keep that power and gain more. The book left me yearning for more, and wondering what will happen next.

What do you get if you mix murder mystery, forbidden magic, romantasy, politics and all set in a roman inspired setting. You get this amazing book!

This book had me gripped from the start and kept me guessing through out. So much suspense and secrets. Exactly what I look for in a book.

The fmc, a high priestess has some huge secrets and an mmc that wants to bring her down.
