Miyori was only supposed to spend one night with Priest Vale to pay off her sister’s debt. One night turned into obsession.
Now Priest won’t let her go.
He's rich, ruthless, and already married—but that doesn’t stop him from taking whatever he wants. What he wants is her body, her loyalty, and her obedience.
But the deeper she falls, the more dangerous he becomes. And love was never part of the deal.
A dark, obsessive romance about power, possession, and the blurred line between love and ruin.
When you start a kindle book, it unfortunately doesn't start you at the beginning with the publisher page, dedications etc, you go straight into the prologue or chapter one. I doubt if I had read the author's note about the setting, her inspiration prior to reading the book that my opinion would be much different.
I adore an obsessive, possessive a-hole who is controlling and passionate. Brought to his knees by love or a stalker's prize. Priest kind of seemed like that. Miyori was the sacrificial lamb who wanted nothing to do with him and he forced the issue. So far so good
Then after that it was dominance lite, pushing and pulling away, then a raft of coincidences that made me snort derisively. Worse yet, it didn't even really end on a happy for now
The characters were surface level and the plot was unrealistic. I didn't really know what Priest or Miyori did, what their hopes and fears really were outside their rocky relationship. And the bits I know about, I didn't care for.
Finally, 10 minutes into this book and thought what does elements of book remind me of. It takes me a minute to get to the right classic - Jane Eyre - and that's all I could see going forward. All in all, standard plot, with unsatisfactory execution.
Inspired by those Chinese dramas where the mmc is hella obsessed with the fmc- I fawkin LOVE those!! Davis, you put your whole pussy into this one and I'm obsessed! The whole dynamic of Priest being married but obsessed with Miyori and doing whatever he could to be with her? *chefs kiss* I ate it up!!
I want more... Feel free to give us more Ms. Davis! 😉
This is a amazing story with interesting characters that are captivating with a relationship that is entertaining and drama. What a surprise this story is full of them, The couple has a sizzling chemistry with passion that burn the pages. This is my first time reading this author's work and I can say that the story was enjoyable and this author has made me a fan.excited to read it is sometimes be a badass with her behavior. Although there is lots of drama that it's off the chart. Priest is dark and tells Miyori a story that it's will bring tears to your eyes, it's so emotional. The characters are captivating There were quite a few things that makes this a great reading experience and it's absolutely enjoyable to read. I hope there is more because I'm excited to read it.
3.5 ⭐️ - Priest was manipulative, obsessive and completely unhinged. One night was not enough that man wanted her body, her soul, her life. I don’t think Myori truly knows what she’s gotten into with him. Whew! Great for a book MMC but in real life those red flags will have you in witness protection lol
Would this have been better if it was longer or is it better because it isn’t longer?
This was perfection to me.
It started well. I believed Priest to be as bad as he says he is. To be honest, he’s damn crazy. But the crazy I like. The measured crazy where he knows but doesn’t want to be better.
I limit the amount of cheating books I read because they just don’t do it for me. I can’t bother with all the sneaking.
However, this isn’t the traditional marriage or affair. I once again don’t know if I want more time with his wife’s crazy family or this was just enough.
Honestly, they are likely perfect for each other if she took her meds and he didn’t hate her.
Now Miyoki (lovely name by the way), THIS is HOW you WRITE a strong female lead. I believe every unbothered reaction and I respect that she understood every decision she made. She especially understood her mistakes.
She felt human but surreal at the same time.
Other than the first sex scene - which I also expected more from - there wasn’t much to write home about. Pretty standard but I am glad she wasn’t a virginal bride and that she knew her way around a penis.
While I don’t think they are a good match in any other way than mistress and sugar daddy, maybe I just never got the time to see them outside of their clandestine affairs.
There is a lot of darkness here. A lot going on as well.
Holy shit - this man was certifiable, bat shit crazy. And I was here for it. Did I like him? No. But he was fun to read. Because I really believe he'll kill himself and his love if his happy ending doesn't pan out the way he wants. Priest is a poster child for red flags all around the world. ☠️
Miyori is a 31 y.o. RN who offers one night of sex to help wipe her addicted sister's debt clean. She owed the wrong person, older mafioso Priest. Priest is obsessed from first glance at Miyori, despite having a wife at home. That one night turns into more and Priest is like a starving dog with a bone. He won't let Miyori rest. They walk away from each other but fate (or bad luck) let them meet again. And Priest lies, cheats, manipulates to keep Miyori to him. He's crazy jealous, and he does get grabby a few times. He's abusive, mentally more than physically, so if a MC like that not your cup of tea, take it as a warning ⚠️.
I really liked that Miyori was a realist, accepted her role as the other woman but still wasn't a doormat. Once the author stated they based it off Chinese dramas with super crazy, possessive main characters, I got the gist of the story.
There were some typos, but nothing too distracting. I do think an extra 10-30 pgs would have enhanced the story. Overall, it's a fast burn with sex, violence and psychotic villains.
I'm checking out the rest of the series. 4.25 stars
3.75 Stars. *BW/WM). Kindle Edition $3.99/150 page novella ebook. SETTING: Current day. In and around areas of Tampa, Florida and New York City. TROPE: Black female attempts to arrange repayment of her sister's drug debt with a Crime Boss but he proposes a night of sex in exchange for her sister's indebtedness. MAIN CHARACTERS: 1. PRIEST VALE, male lead, Crime Boss and partner in an unhappy arranged marriage. 2. MIYORI HAMILTON, female lead, is a registered nurse and older sister to her only living relative. 3. LILITH AIELLO is Priest's possessive dependent mentally disturbed wife. 4. SEBASTIAN AIELLO is Lilith's mentally disturbed murderous brother. 5. GABRIELE AIELLO is Lilith and Sebastian's father and the Crime Boss of his family. 6. MAYA is Miyori's drug addicted sister. 7. EZRA VALE is Miyori and Priest's infant son.
This is an interesting drama filled story with a memorable couple, Miyori and Priest. The author established their romantic and sexual chemistry early in this novella. The one caveat would be the quick contrived ending. Priests habitual lies and jealous behavior read more lighthearted and cute than mean; although, I could see how they would exacerbate Miyori.
Priest: The Wife. The Mistress. The Ruin. by Shantel Davis is another fun and toxic offering, light on the love but heavy on the mayhem and OTT possessiveness. Miyori has long served as caregiver and guardian to her younger sister, Maya. When Maya runs into money trouble with some very bad men, Miyori steps in to handle business as usual. However, the currency of choice does not come green and Miyori HERSELF is collateral. Priest is instantly enchanted by Miyori and thinks that one night with her will wipe out her sister’s debt and his desire. He is wrong and finds himself craving her company, even though his in a marriage of convenience with an unstable woman with a threatening father. Even with these complications Priest is not willing to give up the peace he finds in Miyori’s company. Priest is in a precarious position, but his world can only bring danger to Miyori (his wife and her family are scary). I enjoyed this funny rollercoaster of a story. I wish it had been a bit longer so that we could see Priest and Miyori cohabiting down the line. Ms. Davis always entertains! https://theretiredreader.com/f/priest...
When I read the blurb about this book I learned about in one of my Facebook groups, I was intrigued. I was also a little skeptical because I had read other books that promised a dark, steamy romance that was dangerous and possessive but failed to deliver. But this one? It blew my mind and I hate it ended. Priest and Miyori were like fire and ice the steam that comes when the two elements collide. They were both possessive in their own ways but she did her best to stay true to herself. Priest did whatever he could or needed to in order to keep her, even when it kept him away from her for weeks and months. Man, this story was so sexy, dark and so compelling. I hated that I had to stop reading when my body was screaming for sleep. Shantel Davis is my new favorite author. The only thing that needs to be improved is an occasional proofreading for punctuation.
Priest is completely out of touch, his manipulative actions and controlling manner make him crazy and hard to love.
But the Genovese family?!?!? They all needed to be properly medicated. Not all family members killing people just because they didn't get their way in the world...absolutely NOT!!!
While I am not a fan of cheating plots, this one was written properly. Is Priest manipulative throughout the entire storyline...yes, does he grow...that is to be determined. Miyori finally did what needed to be done, and I will say I am proud of her for getting away when she did, but is the story really over? And in the end did the two "somehow" solve their cheating problem, yes, do I still really want to see the two together, that depends on Priest's actions moving forward.
Man, this guy has me laughing like I just inhaled helium. I was literally vibrating with laughter, what in the circus-level nonsense was THAT? He’s so manipulative it should be classified as a superpower. The way he sat in the dark, smiling like a budget Disney villain after telling her that ridiculous fake story about his parents… 🤣🤣🤣 Sir, PLEASE. He was living in a whole warzone, surrounded by danger, and still thought, “Yes, let me lie for fun today.” 😅😅😅
And Miyori? Oh she’s FIRE. Not a single weak-heroine moment. This woman has him by the emotional throat AND the metaphorical balls. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I swear she already knows every truth about him but is too tired to expose him, girl said, “Let him embarrass himself.”
And their son? Oh he’s going to be a MENACE, the perfect blend of these two chaotic masterminds. A tiny manipulative prodigy. 😅😅😅
Man oh man is Shantel Davis a devious author. 😮💨this book was 🔥! RIGHT up my alley with the completely unhinged “Hero” Saint and my poor yet strong heroine, “Lil Saint.” She was the perfect antithesis to our devil MMC. The darkness in this book was absolutely delicious and the mental illness(es) were real. Please check your triggers because this one little story is full of a ton & I was here for every single one. If you want a story that shamelessly walks on the dark side, some walk but run to pick this up. I promise you won’t request it. All in all Shantel Davis is a magician and I can’t wait to read any and everything else by her!!
the crack in this books is the "I'm the worst person in the whole word, but you bring me peace" and that will always eat!
somehow Shantel was able to give us a lot of backstory in a very short book! we get the weird family dynamics, a bit of Priest background and a bit of how they going to be in the future
I really like when time actually goes by in books also! 6 months later makes so much sense that just see "days after"
another thing! I like that Shantel never hides that have a very flawed relationship!
Priest is an intensely diabolical master manipulator, couched in deadly charm, rizz, & BDE. He is a 💯 mafia alpha who knows what he wants, pursues it & gets it by any and all means necessary. I started reading this book in KU & purchased it at 45% as I know I will be reading this twisted, spicy, suspenseful ❤tale over & over again! I am a fan of this ✍️, but I was very disappointed with the lack of an epilogue, nevertheless, I enjoyed this book from word one to the end🍷
not great, but not bad either. so we have Myori and Priest who have a ONS and they like each other and after a while they engage in a relationship although Myori learns that Priest is married to Lilith. After month of being the other woman in his life, Myori has enough but Priest always manages to sway her mind, in the end Myori moves out of the city and learns that she is pregnant. Priest kills his wife, her father and brother and goes after Myori and they have their HEA

I had followed this story from Shantel’s Patreon group. It was such a pleasant surprise to see the full story loaded to kindle. Shantel has done it again. I love the name changes as well. Always a well written book. Miyori was time enough for Priest before the end. Priest was a hot red flag that you couldn’t help to fell head over heels for no matter what he did or how he acted. A must read.
I enjoyed the short story, honestly wished it was longer so we can see how the ending played out more. The way Priest would dot and obsessed over Miyori were my favorite moments.
Now Priest is married to a woman who got her daddy to force them together. Miyori is protective over her sister and will go through the worst for her. Their first meeting is explosive and Priest literally yearns to see Miyori again.
This is the first book I've read by this author. It was an interesting storyline if somewhat predictable. The MMC "Priest" has all the usually mafia bad boy tropes. He's jealous, over the top possessive and he's not above lying to the FMC " Miyorie" to keep her. What made the storyline different from other mafia stories "Priest" is already married to a crazy Mafia Princess who will do ANYTHING to keep him.
This almost instalove book was something else. These people are all unhinged in one way or another. I'm not sure what it says about me but I was still rooting for this toxic love to happen. Priest is so manipulative. I'm a sucker for an obsessed man. Apparently Lil Saint is too. ☺️ This is that ill fated and destined to destroy each other kind of love. Interested to see what takes place in book 2.
My favorite thing about a Shantel Davis story is that you don’t know how deeply disturbed the characters are until you continue reading. You think you’re gonna get shallow drama, no no no no, she comes with sickos. And you fall in love with the sickos and wonder if you’re a bit touched too. I would definitely recommend this read.
The priest knew he wasn't a saint by a long shot, but Miyori brought him peace in a word he had none. He was in an arranged marriage to the ruthless rich mob boss's crazy daughter. The obsession, romance, and family drama will have you read this in one sitting.
First read with this author. includes a Super twisted Dark Alpha Male with complications. If you can get past the unlikely situation that being a educated professional nurse just saying yeah I'll be a Mob Boss's Mistress no questions asked. It's otherwise great read.
This was my first time reading this author, and maybe it’s because I’ve read so many mafia romances—or because I have a soft spot for classics like Jane Eyre—but this felt like a watered-down imitation. I’m all for reimagining a classic, but it needs a fresh twist or something that sets it apart, and this just didn’t deliver.
Shantel has found her niche and she always brings the heat and the crazy AND I'm here for ALL HER STORIES. A BONUS epilogue after the epilogue would've probably made this a 5-star review.
You were already one of my favorite authors. I love your over the top main male characters. I read Priest in one sitting, I couldn't put it down until I got to the end. Thank you so much and keep up the good work 👍
A great short read from ms.davis .she does not do cut and dry she give you a world wind tale to think about later and have you wanting more.cant wait to read the next book by her.
This book has just enough dark twisted erotic story that makes it an excellent read. Priest is the ultimate crazy bad boy that everyone wants to have but everyone wants to call the cops on as well.
Priest is a whole trip and a half. This is a worthy read that has a you actually rooting for the mistress and husband 's HEA. This twisty, and hot definitely purchasing. Shantel Davis hasn't disappointed me yet her books are WILD!!!!!!
Deliciously unhinged, addictive and scandalous Priest. The Wife. The Mistress. The Ruin had me on the edge of my seat, the characters are deeply flawed, seemingly irredeemable, psychotic and I loved it!
