4.5 stars! All the character depth and nuance I’ve been looking for in YA dystopians recently. Whipped through this in two days - very compelling, lots of great discussion around concent and dying, and I also loved the poems/little bits in verse from Asha’s pov.

This group of characters are so memorable and have stayed with me. The world building is superb. I love dystopian and this is one of the best books I have read since the Divergent series. Wow! Beautifully written. I read it in two sittings. The main charavter Calico is so relatable; strong and vulnerable at the same time because of her fatal flaw - her love and feelings of responsibility for her little sister. A powerful exploration of grief done through an action packed storyline.
