My 7 year old daughter really enjoyed this book. She wants to read the next one because there are more things to be discovered. She thought the book was really fun and was filled with interesting things that she liked. The words made a lot of sense to her and she excited to read more Fairy Tales!
As someone who’s favorite animal is sea turtles and has been since I was little this has always been one of my favorite Rainbow Magic books. Plus I love the scene with the parrots imitating the goblins.

This book was a gift for my 24th birthday. 24 year old and 4 year old me are obsessed with sea turtles and fairies. Really stretching to try meet my reading goal🤣
This book was good! Didn’t totally love it as much as Stephanie’s, but it was a lot more fun to read than Ally’s. There were one or two things that kind of annoyed me, but overall, this was a pretty enjoyable book.
Pros: -Tess. =>Seeing Tess’s perfect design and then having to see Stephanie’s ugly ass outfit in the corner of the cover is truly my villain origin story. Her outfit is literally perfect, her braids are so cute and I’m absolutely a seafoam-green bitch - could not have designed her better myself. I also loved how her wings were shaped to match the pattern on Pearl’s shell. =>Tess had the funniest entrance so far, because the oceans of the world are in peril and her fairy animal is god knows where, but this girl wants to say ‘fuck it, forget about the shell and having to hide magic from humans, Imma transform you so we can chill in this cute ass castle y’all made’. Honestly, I kind of respect it. -Rachel and Kristy back at it again with the matching hairstyles - this time in half-up/half-down! -They’re building a sandcastle! <3 -The girls don’t really go anywhere outside of where they’re staying for the duration of the series (other than Fairyland ofc), so it was cool to see them get whisked off to some random beach. -THEY GOT TO SEE BABY SEA TURTLES!!! -The scene with the parrots repeating what they heard from the goblins was kinda funny. -Tess grinned. “Well, the turtles have only just hatched,” she replied. “And since they’re green, and so are the goblins, the babies think the goblins are grown-up turtles!” - Tess wanted to laugh so hard in this scene, like, I don’t know how else to describe this scene other than ‘imagine baby ducklings following their mother’. -Three dumb besties going exactly is the only way to describe the goblins in this book. There might have been a single brain cell shared between them, which is huge because if we look at previous books, not a single brain cell to be found. The scene where they’re trying to stop each other from telling Tess and the girls that they found the shell fragment was so fucking funny, I kid you not, this will live rent-free in my head from now on. Also, this exchange: “We could jump in the ocean and swim away,” the goblin with the bucket suggested. “That’s a great idea,” said the biggest goblin eagerly. “Except that we can’t swim!” the third goblin snapped.
Cons: -“My feet are cold and wet! I HATE having cold, wet feet!” - My initial reaction was to agree because the goblins are always hella relatable. But then I was like, y’all live in a cold climate with snow everywhere and also walk barefoot so what is the truth?? -Why is Pearl orange on the cover, but in the book she’s described as being green?? -What the fuck is a pogwurzel? -WHY THE FUCK DIDN’T THEY GET TO SEE MORE BABY SEA TURTLES HATCH?! I’d be so pissed.
Daisy Meadows and her fairies are my childhood. I collected so many in my youth, knowing all the fairies and their importance, and sticking with the two special girls who go to be a part of the magic. Years ago I had to give my beautiful collection away, now still part of my childhood school where little girls are picking their favourite fairies and playing pretend. It's fun to hear stories from my old teachers telling me how over the years so many students have grabbed these books and fallen in love with the tales of two girls, Jack Frost and the fabulous glittering magic that is the fairies. On Christmas last year, my sister surprised me with a boxset of these books, but cause you cannot collect these darlings as easily anymore. I was over the moon! If anyone has a little one who needs a little magic in their life, wants to read and needs a big creation to be hooked on...it is Daisy Meadows!
I thought this was a good continuation of the series. It gets to the point quickly, providing enough context that a new reader could jump in on book 4, but not dwelling too much on the old details for readers who have followed the series.
This short book has some good moments and a lot of confusion. I find that my enjoyment of the books really depends on how much the goblins' comic villainy comes through. This book worked well, with the goblins and their misunderstanding of the situation being the high point. This gave the book enough substance that it felt like a complete storyline, even without as much direct conflict as some other books.
I read this book aloud to my daughter and she loved it way more than I did--so I've adjusted the rating to reflect more of my thoughts. Fairies and animals, magic and friendship. The book is sweet with a little bit of danger as the bad goblins are trying to go after the same things as the two friends in the story. Add a few pictures every chapter and it makes for a fun read.
Why the goblins? The premise would appeal more to young girls if it was helping injured animals (as blurb leads you to believe) versus the chase aspect
Tess the Sea Turtle Fairy marks the fourth installment of the Ocean Fairies Rainbow Magic Series. The magic conch shell, which the ocean fairies use to maintain harmony in the world's oceans, is broken by the evil Jack Frost. Humans Rachel and Kirsty are recruited while vacationing on the beach in order to help the ocean fairies and their magical animal friends find the pieces of the magic conch shell before Jack Frost's meddling goblins. In truth, the book, neigh the entire Rainbow Magic Series, comes across as terribly innocuous to an adult audience. The characters are flat and uninteresting; the stories all follow the same, simple form. However, the popularity of these books among young girls is undeniable. Simple vocabulary and a predictable plot make them ideal for beginning female readers around 8 years old. The cartoonish illustrations help to clarify the story and provide a context for encountering new words. Tess the Sea Turtle Fairy is full of that awesome fairy magic kids love, and short enough to provide a sense of accomplishment to even the newest reader. And once they have read one, they will have to read more. Good thing there are currently over 100 Rainbow Magic books to keep them reading.
This is the fourth book of seven in the Rainbow Magic Ocean Fairies series by the group of authors who go by the pseudonym Daisy Meadows. While the stories are basically the same and follow a simple formula, they are entertaining for young girls who are starting to read chapter books and I love that our oldest is just ripping through them. We both read the books separately and talk about what happens. I'm not a huge fan of them, but each story only takes about 5-10 minutes to read. And these stories feature sea creatures, so I enjoyed this book slightly more than some of the others. Our oldest is starting to read them very quickly, too, and she ended up finishing four of these stories in one day.
Tess told the girls that that they needed to her magic sea turtle back. Will they find it, and will they get it back? If you want to find out you have to read it.
The goblins thought that the baby sea turtles were monsters so it was easier for the fairies to get the shell and the magic sea turtle back.
Did not care for this at all. Had my name, so I read it, but I felt it was really poor. They sat down and wrote this in a couple hours, with no effort towards better conversation or scripting. Just because it is for beginning readers doesn't mean it has to be stupid or overly simplified. Not recommended.
I really liked this one...it was cute, and made me laugh. N has this hilarious way of reading the goblins' dialogue. Sometimes they're so naughty that it's comical.
Tess The Sea Turtle Fairy was really good. Tess was really interesting, but I had a question: how did Rachel's grandma and parents feel when they got home?
Rachel and Kirsty were people who turned into fairies. I love fairies as much as anything. Tess the Sea Turtle Fairy has a special friend like all the rainbow fairies
