The book is chocked full of adorable illustrations and inspiration for your next tattoo design! My favorite sections to browse were the furry friends and the jewelry box.
The artist is very talented and I love that they compiled their work into a book. I loved that there were tips on the placements of each tattoo and they were broken up into themed sections.
Done by a tattoo artists who specializes in mini designs, There are so many ideas to choose from and is organized in a way that makes a lot of sense. Fun.
A whimsical collection of flash to inspire those tiny tattoos that you might just need when the needle calls. I would have liked a little more word content - background...thoughts about each topic...something. It would also been beneficial to see photos her art tattooed. Those touches could allow the reader to connect with the artist more.
Thank you NetGalley, Chronicle Books, and artist McKenna Lah for the eARC in exchange for my honest review. "Itty Bitty Ink" is expected to be published March 3, 2026!
As someone who loves tattoos and enjoys getting tattoos, I was elated at the chance to receive an advance copy of this book by McKenna Lah.
Her fine-line designs are absolutely stunning, and I can see this inspiring many people to go out and find their own forever art. Some of them are extremely simple, while others are detailed in a way I would not have expected from a fine-line design. Every turn of the page had me looking from drawing to drawing, wondering “Would I ever get something like this?”
A lot of the time, I will admit, the answer was no. Most of the artwork didn’t resonate with me in a way that would have me placing it on my skin for the reason of my life. However, that doesn’t mean others wouldn’t. There are so many great, first time tattoos ideas in here or even ideas if you’re looking for a flash/impulsive tattoo.
My only real issue with this book is that some of the designs were a little more revealing than I would personally ever get. This being said, I’m well aware that a lot of people enjoy those sorts of designs, and there is nothing wrong with that. So, whether you love tattoos, are looking for inspiration, or just want to appreciate some fine art, then this is a book I would recommend you checking out. One thing is absolutely clear to me with this, McKeena is a talented artist and I would trust her with a forever art design.
Thank you NetGalley and Chronicle Books for giving me an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoyed flipping through the tattoo designs in this book—it’s clear they were created by an actual tattoo artist. The bold outlines and thoughtful shading give each piece a professional, finished look. All of the designs are in black and white, though I’m sure they could easily be adapted with color. There’s also a really sweet acknowledgement from the author to her family and friends, which I thought added a nice personal touch.
I will say that I initially hoped the book might include a release form so a reader could take a design directly to a tattoo artist and say, “This is what I want.” It doesn’t. And if you look a little more closely than I did at first, you’ll notice the author makes it clear that these designs are meant to be inspirational—as in, “I hope these spark ideas for you, but please don’t copy my work outright.” I believe that was the author’s intent, and it’s worth keeping in mind.
If you can find this at a library, it’s a fun source of inspiration. I’m not sure I’d buy it solely for personal use (unless you just want the included temporary tattoos), but the artwork itself is very nice. There’s a wide variety of motifs: country-style elements, animals, food-themed art, and celestial designs. The range is something I definitely appreciated.
Give it a look if you’re a tattoo fanatic—you’ll likely find something that sparks your imagination.
I received this digital arc from NetGalley and Chronicle Books in exchange for an honest review. I wish I could see the two sheets of temporary tattoos that come with the print version, but I guess I'll have to wait until it comes out in print!
This book is charming and full of ideas for your next/first tattoo. The designs definitely lean toward femme, although I've seen plenty of male chefs sporting tattoos that can be found in the Farmer's Market section of this book. I was looking for one idea and now I have a hundred. If I lived in LA, I would take up all of the author's time. There is very little text in the book, which might be bothersome to some folks, but it was more about finding something that resonates with you and not necessarily the author.
The books says that the drawings are "inspiration", but it is not clearly stated. I'm guessing that the artist doesn't want her work to be copied outright, so proceed with caution and make the designs your own! I'm off to make an appointment with my tattoo artist.
As someone who doesn't really get tattoos often and can be pretty picky about what they are, while I'll admit that this book is filled with some absolutely beautiful small artwork, I'd probably look elsewhere for something that I'd want. I think this has more to do with the fact that I'm in a place in my life where, if I were to get another tattoo, I'd want it to be exceptionally meaningful. What I will say is that this book might have been perfect for me in my college days. Back then, I was very spontaneous about tattoos.
I also really appreciate the piece of having a variety of temporary tattoos included at the end. This, I think, really allows someone to determine what it might look like if they were to get one of this artists' specific tattoos. Though they're not ones I would get, I do think that they're incredibly beautiful and I hope this book helps various undecided tattoo lovers.
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is a cute little selection of tiny black and white drawings for tattoos. They felt a little generic and young, and some sections really had me wondering who would want some of these tattoos forever inked on their body— two cats holding hands and carrying briefcases, sets of dangling earrings, a carton of milk, etc. The expected ones like cupids, hearts and roses were very generic though.
This could be fun for inspiration but it doesn’t feel like real, personal, creative ideas. That said, if you’re dying for a tattoo of a can of soup, a cutesy heart or a hairbrush, this has got you covered. And I don’t mean that as rudely as it sounds— this has lots of images if your aesthetic is cutesy, either traditional stuff or oddities.
I read a temporary online copy of this book for review.
**Thank you to NetGalley and the author for a digital ARC in exchange for my honest review.**
This book was in a word “precious”.
It’s a collection of “cute little illustrations to inspire your next tattoo” and it did exactly that. I will definitely be getting the physical copy of this (and I’ll just bring the whole book to my next tattoo appointment).
I think this would be a great coffee table book or gift for your tatted friend (if their aesthetic is girlie pop).
I love how the author broke it up into categories & added her little tips for placement.
Thank you to Chronicle Books for this ARC in exchange for my honest review!
Itty Bitty Ink is a small collection of grayscale illustrations intended to spark inspiration for tiny tattoo ideas. The book includes a range of motifs, from furry little creatures to fruits, veggies, desserts, and garden-themed designs.
While the collection is ok, none of the designs particularly stood out to me as unique or especially memorable.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC.
The tattoos are cute enough, but nothing special, and I genuinely wonder if all of them are actually tattoo-able without looking weird. The shadowing looks like it might look odd and harsh when actually tattooed, from my experience, which would just completely ruin the tattoo. It'd have been great to see the designs actually tattooed, to get a better idea of what they look like on actual human skin.
This book was cute! I'm not exactly sure how you would use it because I feel like most tattoo artists like to use their own designs but I would certainly take a tattoo from this book. At the very least, the pictures are pretty and the idea of temporary tattoos is cute, too. Also, honestly, a cute book with some illustrations that can serve as illustraiton for your own drawings, if not your own tattoos.
Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to have an ARC to check out!! This was exactly what I hoped it would be, I saw so many fantastic tattoo ideas, it would be really simple to switch up small details to personalize many of them as well, so even if you got the idea from this book, it can still be unique to you. There were quite a few that I would definitely get tattooed right away if I could!!
Brb going to get an adorable tiny tattoo. These were so cute! A book filled with wonderful illustrated ideas for tiny tattoos. Worth the read especially if you’re stuck.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for making this one available :)
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. (via Netgalley)
4.25 stars
This was really cute! I loved all the artwork and tbh if she wasn't on the opposite coast from me I'd probably have a full sleeve of her animal designs.
Cute book of drawings for tiny tattoo inspiration. I loved all of the artwork. I think this would be a great book for someone thinking about their first tattoo. I also think this would be a cute book to keep around for guests to glance through.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ If you love minimalist tattoos, this is a delight. Every page is filled with super cute, delicate designs that feel both stylish and whimsical. Perfect for coffee table eye candy or a quick source of tattoo inspiration.
Thank you to NetGalley and Chronicle Books for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.
A cute collection of small tattoos. I got a few ideas for my next tattoo. While there were some cute ideas, I was expecting more from this book with more unique designs.
The author of this book is a tattoo artist. This book featured tiny tattoo designs by the author, for placing on the hands, ankle, behind the ears and other small places on the body.
