USA Today bestselling author Sofie Darling’s passion for historical romance began in middle school the moment she cracked open Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte. An instant and enduring love affair was born.
Sofie spent much of her twenties raising two boys and reading every romance she could get her hands on. Once she realized she simply must write the books she loved, she finished her English degree and set pencil to paper. (Ticonderoga #2 is her quill of choice.)
When she’s not writing heroes who make her swoon, Sofie enjoys a nice weekend hike, a visit to a crumbling medieval castle whenever she gets the chance, and a slightly codependent relationship with her beagle, Bosco.

Lady Viveca Calthorp and her sister are entrepreneurs, owning their own circulating library. When Blaze Jagger seeks shelter inside their establishment one rainy afternoon, he discovers a whole new world...and a woman who just might be the ruin of him.
This is the sixth book in the All's Fair in Love and Racing series. I would recommend reading the whole series - it's great! -and there are interconnected characters. Viveca's brother Gabriel is book two's hero, her sister Tess is book three's heroine, and Blaze's half sister is the heroine of book four.
Her brother's unexpected inheritance has taken Miss Viveca Siren to Lady Viveca Calthorp. She doesn't aspire to society, and prefers to chart her own course. A meet cute with Blaze has her making a bold proposal: reading lessons for him and worldly adventures for her. It was a well paced story, with Viveca taking the lead. I'm not sure if Viveca is just assertive or meant to be neurodivergent, but that was the impression I got. This book gave me a bit of Lisa Kleypas' Ravenels family/twins, so I would recommend this to anyone who enjoyed that series.

ENJOY THIS SNEAK PEEK AT CHAPTER 1 OF A LADY'S ROGUE TO RUIN...
London May 1824 There had been a time in Blaze Jagger’s life—and not too long ago—when a ramble up Sloane Street would have been outside the realm of advisable. In the eyes of the world, he was nothing more than an East End rogue, and this street was of that pure, rarified air of the haut ton. But the usual that had been for most of his life hadn’t been the usual for the last two years of it. Blaze Jagger had come up in the world, hadn’t he? Now he had all the trappings—the fine, tailored togs; the flash gold pocket watch; the pinky ring with a sapphire the size of a back molar that he’d got off a swell who’d made the advisable choice to give up the ring for his gambling debts rather than an actual back molar. And who said lords couldn’t be pragmatic? Now, he could stroll along the freshly washed cobbles of Sloane Street to have tea with his sister, Lady Bea, a personage no less lofty than a capital L lady, as proud as he pleased and there wasn’t no one who could say naught to him about it. Two years was enough time for the circumstances of a man’s life to have completely changed, wasn’t it? For example, he no longer accepted back molars as payment for gambling debts. Blaze Jagger, these last two years, was a man on the straight and narrow path. If the straight and narrow path was wide enough to accommodate a man who was the majority stakes holder in the most exclusive gaming hell in London. To his way of thinking, he rather thought it was. Folk on the straight and narrow did enjoy their vices, after all. So, he was a man with every right to be setting foot on Sloane Street. The weather above, however, didn’t give two figs for neither man nor his perceived rights. The weather—English weather, in the specific—had its own agenda in the game. Which at this moment was to open the dark blanket of clouds above and pour rain down. That said deluge landed directly on top of his spanking new silk top hat was of no consequence to the weather, either. He cast his gaze about for shelter. The perfectly spaced plane trees lining the other side of the road would be of no use with the wind blowing sheets of rain sideways. And with the solid row of townhouses standing shoulder-to-shoulder on his side of the street, he didn’t expect to find shelter there, either. He’d had to buy himself a fancy townhouse to be admitted into one. These wouldn’t be opening their doors to the likes of him. Movement half a block up the street caught his eye. He squinted. What was that? A mass of folk, mostly gents, but a few women, too, crowding the front door of one townhouse in particular. It would be some sort of public place, wouldn’t it? Shoulders hunched against the driving rain, Blaze’s feet were on the move without another moment’s hesitation, and soon he was at the back of the crowd. They were a whispery, quiet lot. As he crossed the threshold of the establishment, he caught sight of an engraved brass plaque that, presumably, would be bearing the name. He remained unelucidated. And while he might yet persist in ignorance as to either the name or the purpose of this place, one thing he knew right off the bat was it wasn’t like any place he’d ever encountered. It wasn’t the décor that was unusual, with all its tasteful woods and carpets that quieted a boot heel right down and oil paintings of boring, old countrysides. When English folk wanted to tell a man very discreetly exactly how much blunt they’d squirreled away beneath the floorboards, this was how they decorated. Naw. It was the quiet. He was six deep in this line that led to a front desk, and everyone in it was silent and still and when they did speak to the woman behind the desk, it was all hush-hush murmurs. If he were mystically inclined, the word that would fit here was eerie. But not a drop of mysticism flowed in his blood, and all he found himself was curious. He didn’t have to stand in this line and talk to that woman. He could prop a shoulder against the front doorjamb, set his gaze out over Sloane Street, and wait out the storm. But something inside him kept him in this line and demanded he see what this place was all about. When he made it to the front, he found himself confronted by two obstacles—the sour-faced matron with her black linen blouse buttoned up to her chin, giving him a thorough up-and-down, and a large open book on the table between them. Best to deal with the woman first, he reckoned. Her mouth opened, the heave-ho perched on those firm lips, but he was an old hand at the upstage and beat her to the first words between them. “What’s this place all about, anyway?” A less-than-polite greeting, but they set the tone he wanted—of him in charge—and it wasn’t by politeness that he ever got anywhere in this old world. The matron let a haughty few seconds pass, her dense black eyebrows making a run for the ceiling, before she said, “You’ve entered Sirens Circulating Library.” She sniffed. “Are you a member? Or perhaps you’ve entered the wrong establishment?” Her gaze narrowed on the diamond stud winking in his left ear. “I’m thinking no to the former and yes to the latter.” A tight smirk formed at the corners of her mouth. “Then I shall bid you good day.” She began to turn away, and Blaze experienced a sizzle of irritation. Nothing would delight him more than to wipe that smirk right off her face. Toward that end, he asked, “How much?” Membership—that meant money. Which he had. Mountains of it, in fact. A fact that would needle beneath this woman’s skin no end. Again, her eyebrows were breaking for the ceiling. “I beg your pardon?” Blaze reached inside his chartreuse paisley waistcoat—he’d heard his penchant for dressing in bold colors described as garish on more than a few occasions—and pulled out three guineas. “Will this suffice?” Round as saucers, the woman’s eyes went. He never did get tired of seeing his blunt have that effect on the unsuspecting. “Erm…” She cleared her throat. “Quite.” She reached for a book from a shelf behind her and set it directly on top of the book on the table and opened it. With its neat lines and columns, Blaze knew it for a ledger. She placed a ruler across and bisected the page with a straight line, creating a new column. “If you would fill out your name and address, Mr.…” she said, leadingly, her tone gone miraculously civil. Amazing what miracles a few guineas could magic up. “Jagger,” he said. “Blaze Jagger of Tichborne Street.” Two years ago, upon acquiring his majority share in The Archangel, he’d bought a fancy townhouse on a fancy Mayfair street to go with his fancy new job title. Not that he slept there two nights out of ten. It was the principle. He plunked a fourth guinea down onto the blank line. “And would you be a pet and fill that in for me?” he asked, all charming rogue. His usual X would give the game away. “And what’s your name, if I may be a bold one?” He knew the effect his densely lashed gray eyes wrought upon the female sex. For good measure, he brought out his dimples, too. A smile twitched about the woman’s mouth. This one lacking a smirk. “I’m Mrs. Dunlevy, and, of course, Mr. Jagger.” And like that, Mr. Blaze Jagger was a member of Sirens Circulating Library. He felt like a traveler to a foreign land as he entered the room to the left and found himself surrounded by books…everywhere. Shelves and shelves of books, from floor to ceiling on the four walls…stacked on the room’s central table…held in the hands of members sitting in leather chairs, sunk deep into the contents of what they were reading. And in the next room, it was mostly the same, except the contents were newspapers of all sorts. Then in yet another room, it was back to books, but less crowded. These must be the dry, old boring ones, then. It all smelled like wood and leather and dust—earthy. It should’ve been off-putting. It wasn’t. He’d never partaken of this scent, God’s truth. His snout picked up other scents, too. Crisp and clean, yet warm, as if baking was happening in the kitchen. Welcoming. It was the strangest sensation, but there was this feeling in the center of his chest like he’d come home. What was peculiar about it was that no home he’d ever occupied was like this place. Yet the feeling had taken up house inside him. He stepped to a wall of shelving and slid out a random book. Just before he opened it, he brought the spine to his nose and inhaled, confirming the scent. It settled deep in his lungs. If someone could bottle this, they’d make a quick quid. “Oh,” came a bright, female voice, “are you an admirer of Tacitus’s Annals, too?” Blaze’s nose startled back from the book, but rather than immediately swivel around, he let his mind work out a few details about the possessor of that question first. It wasn’t Mrs. Dunlevy. The owner of this voice was a few decades younger. Also, she was a lady. No mistaking it. So, a young-ish lady, then. For reasons both general and specific, he steered clear of capital L ladies. But every last one of those reasons deserted him the instant he turned and beheld the capital L lady before him. One would forgive a man for thinking he’d died and gone to heaven. This lady was an angel with her bright inquisitive eyes that held no malintent; her strawberry-blonde hair coming loose from the twist at her neck; the demure muslin dress that revealed not an inch of improprietous skin, but all her curves that zigged, then zagged in all the right places beneath. But Blaze knew he hadn’t died for one very simple reason. When he did bite the dust, his immortal soul wouldn’t be ascending to heaven, and the likes of this capital L lady wouldn’t be there to greet him where he surely was going. Crikes, if he’d known circulating libraries were like this, he’d have joined one years ago. “Although…” She tapped a forefinger against the prettiest pink lips a man ever did see and tipped her head to the side. His usual loquacious gifts abandoned him, and all he could do was wait with bated breath for her next words. “Annals isn’t my favorite of Tacitus’s works,” she said. “Have you read his Histories? His account of the Year of the Four Emperors is absolutely fascinating.” A second ticked past. Then another. And Blaze realized she was waiting for an answer. He cleared his throat. “Naw, haven’t gotten around to it, as such,” he found the wherewithal to say. His instinct—the one that had liberated him from many a hairy, dire situation—told him to run. Yet his feet seemed to have grown roots into the floorboards. “Where is that volume anyway?” she asked no one in particular, casting her gaze up and down the wall of books. “Ah,” she said at last, that pretty pink mouth of hers curling into a satisfied smile as she lifted onto the tips of her toes and reached up, stretching her body like a cat. A sort of male instinct kicked in, and it was all he could do to keep his hands to himself and not run his fingers along the firm indent of her waist. But, naw, he didn’t touch a woman unless she asked very nicely. Sometimes, he even waited until she begged. This woman lowered to her heels in a huff. Then she cocked her head to the side and eyed him up and down, from his feet to— Her gaze snagged on the diamond stud in his left ear. Like the sapphire in his pinky ring, it, too, was the size of a back molar. Except she didn’t react with snooty disdain like Mrs. Dunlevy. This lady’s pupils flared until her irises were naught but thin blue rings. This lady liked what she saw in that little demonstration of societal transgression. He could always tell when a lady did. “I can’t seem to reach,” she said. “It does appear to be the fact of the matter.” “With your superior height,” she continued, pointing at the top shelf, “you could grab Histories with ease.” And like that, his moment’s satisfaction disappeared, only to be replaced with a dread snaking right through a man’s guts. Still, he had no choice but to say… “Right you are.” He extended his arm, his fingertips brushing across book spines in the general vicinity of where she’d been reaching, and slid a book out, all the while praying to every single god in the heavens above that it was the book she wanted. A shallow, vertical line formed between her eyebrows. “Ah, no, that’s Livy’s Ab Urbe Condita.” An instant later, she added, “One can easily get the accounts of Livy and Tacitus confused.” He gave the laugh that brought out the best of his dimples. “Just testing you,” he said, and the laugh she returned held a little note of near undetectable uncertainty. But he caught it. A man like him was good at detecting near undetectable uncertainties. A man never knew when his life might depend on it. A light sheen of sweat pinpricked his skin as he reached for another book, her expectant, unflinching gaze on him the entire time. He held the book between them, and the split of a second passed. Oh, how a lifetime could be lived and lost in the split of a second. She took the book. “Ah, yes, thank you.” What he should’ve been feeling was relief, but all he actually felt was suspicion, for he was growing more certain with each passing split of a second that he’d handed her the wrong book. Further, he felt back-footed, and that was a feeling he couldn’t tolerate. And even further, within her clear blue eyes glimmered a look too close to sympathy. It was giving him the twitches. Again came the voice he should’ve heeded a minute ago. Run. And this time his feet felt inclined to listen. He reached for his top hat—he didn’t bow to anyone, be they lady, lord, queen, or king—and said, “Keep dry out there on them streets.” With that sufficient bid of farewell, his feet came unstuck from the floorboards and instinct took over. As he turned, he just caught sight of her brow lifting with surprise and her mouth curving into an astonished smile. Well, he did take pride in his ability to astonish. A few seconds later, it was him out on them streets that were wet, but the rain had passed, his journey to Lady Bea’s for tea back on course. It was almost like the last twenty minutes hadn’t happened. Almost. One wasn’t prone to forget a novel experience, and he’d certainly just had that. He glanced backwards, to confirm it hadn’t been some mirage like folk saw in the desert. But there the building stood in all its white-painted, black-trimmed stone and glory—Sirens Circulating Library. A gent went up the short set of stairs and entered. That man would be a member, of course. And, somehow, so was Blaze. How was that for an improbable turn in life? He almost did a one-eighty and retraced his steps to confirm it. But he wouldn’t now—and he shouldn’t ever. And it wasn’t about all those books he couldn’t read, either. It was about those open blue eyes he’d left behind. Eyes that lacked fear. Eyes that probed with curiosity. Eyes that looked inclined to smile at the slightest provocation. Eyes that liked the cut of his diamond earring.
This is my 18th book by Sofie Darling. I just started reading her December 31, 2024. I am so glad I asked about her in my steamy FB group because she is definitely steamy and gets such great depth with her characters and her storylines.
I liked this story. I liked Blaze and Viveca. It was a bit slow at the beginning but really liked the ending. They were cute together. Overall a good read and I have really liked this series. Very interesting and different.
Thanks to Booksprout for a copy of this ebook and this is my freely given opinion.
This is a continuation of the series by Sofie Darling and focuses on the siblings of some of the characters that were in previous stories.
Blaze Jagger is the illegitimate brother of Lady Bea, co-owner of the Archangel, and definitely gives scandalous East End bad boy vibes, with bold audacious flare. He is definitely from the wrong side of the tracks, but with too many connections in Society to ignore - and not just because so many may owe him money.
Lady Vivica Calthrop is the younger sister of a duke, a dedicated bibliophile, and co-owner of the Sirens lending library and publication house.
They appear to be on two different paths, except those paths collide one day when Blaze finds himself seeking shelter in Sirens when caught in a sudden rain shower. Normally he would never have set foot inside such a place. But when Lady Vivica comes upon him amongst her shelves, she discovers a well-hidden secret of his - Blaze cannot read.
This starts a lovely story of a young woman who does not quite fit into the Ton and does not seek the path that is expected of society ladies, seeking to experience more of the world away from the Ton and more life. Vivica makes a deal with Blaze to teach him to read, if he would give her more life experiences. Blaze initially thinks she is like the other ladies of his experience, seeking a bit of secret pleasure, but keeping the boundaries of their two worlds clear. But Viveca confounds him by proving him wrong, and appearing to see more of him than the surface flash and bravado he armours himself in. He finds himself falling for her, but does not see a future for them, with him being unworthy of her, being an East End bastard, and Vivica being a lady expected to have a pristine reputation and to have a future amongst the aristocracy.
Spicy and sweet, with likeable characters, so an enjoyable read. Not as immersed in the horse-racing world as the previous books in the series I have read, but then again, it does not need to be.
What’s more delicious than a big ol’ tough guy going all mush for his girl? An innocent sprite with the suave confidence of a rake, and let that be the one thing that throws this Whitechapel rogue of kilter...
Bron and raised a Siren, Viveca’s life suddenly changed from sister of a gaming hell owner to sister of a duke. New name, new title, new expectations – and worst of all, new boundaries. But all she and her sister ever wanted was to open a circulating library – and so they did! Now, two years later, she wants more. More excitement, more freedom, more life. Blaze is a self-made man. Born a noblemen’s bastard, he claimed his territory in the East End and worked his way up. Now he’s the renowned and ruthless co-owner of Siren’s hell, but he also takes care of his own. He’s the Ladies’ “bit-o-rough” rogue, and that’s fine by him. Until one day he’s forced to seek shelter from the rain in a circulating library...
She quickly figures out he can’t read and strongarms him into a deal – and, like every cocksure man, he’s convinced he can handle her. But she’s no meek little bookish lamb... she’s this clever quick thinker, determined and forward, and rolls right into his life and takes over. She discovers her own heart and his – and a few other things 😉 – along the way, and boy o boy, Blaze is a keeper!
There’s no unnecessary drama; it’s just them, and their chemistry is off the charts! I loved the contrast between their worlds, the sneaking around, those beats of vulnerable insecurity, the havoc she wreaks on his ego. He falls like a log, and it’s the most delectable, endearing, swoonworthy thing! The role-reversal in this story was exquisite! She conquers him, so it’s only natural she’s the one to fix the inevitable mess and make the Grand Gesture.
I love this book! Heck, I love this entire series, and now I simply need Saskia’s book!
“A Lady’s Rogue To Ruin” by Sofie Darling is perfection. From the very first page, I was utterly captivated by the story. The narrative is exceptionally well-crafted, making it an absolute delight to read. Sofie Darling weaves an exciting plot that is filled with dynamic characters that come alive on the page.
What truly sets this book apart is its exceptional readability. The pacing is spot-on, keeping me on the edge of my seat as twists and turns unfold. The continuation of the series flows seamlessly, and for those who crave a satisfying conclusion, the happy ending is wonderfully heartwarming.
If you’re a fan of captivating romances with strong characters and thrilling storylines, this book is a must-read. I eagerly anticipate diving into the next installment!
Blaze Jagger walks into a lending library to get out of the rain. Lady Viveca owns the library, and finds herself attracted to the gambling business owner, who just happens to be in business with some of her relatives. Viveca finds out that he can't read, so she offers to teach him in exchange for showing her some adventures. This is a wonderful read, with lots of interesting secondary characters, great chemistry between Blaze and Viveca, some steamy scenes, and a role reversal. I received this book as an ARC, and these are my opinions.
Blaze Jagger is the illegitimate son of an impoverished and lascivious marquess. He now owns the majority stakes in an exclusive gaming establishment in London. Blaze seeks shelter from the rain in a circulating library owned by his partners’ siblings. He happens to meet the youngest Calthrop – a stunning yet brilliant entrepreneur. Blaze knows that he is wrong for Viveca, but he cannot seem to deny the woman her request. Can Blaze comply with her request without damaging her reputation? Or will Viveca ruin his work relationship with her elder brother and sister?
Lady Viveca Calthrop is the youngest sister of a duke. She and her sister opened a circulating library in London. One rainy afternoon she happens on Blaze in her establishment and discovers his secret. Viveca offers to teach him how to read in exchange for a taste of his world. During their first interlude, she learns there is far more to Blaze than what everyone knows. And Viveca wants to know more about the fascinating man, even court ruin to do so. Can Viveca convince Blaze to ignore the difference in their stations? Or will she be forced to lose him?
I am so happy that Blaze gets his happily ever after… and with a Siren (aka Calthorp)! I had a feeling that the two would pair up from DEVIL TO PAY, book four. Blaze is my favorite hero of all time from Sofie Darling. I love his devilish and infectious personality. He made the story so much fun to read! What I adore the most about Blaze is his innate nobility. He looks after (and gifts) the few people he lets into his heart. Blaze also gives back to the less fortunate. He is the total opposite of his father. Viveca is a woman who knows her own mind. She does not let the differences in statuses dictate who to let into her life. If something interests her, she pursues it. I love how Viveca is not impressed or infatuated with the ton’s amusements. She finds them tiresome and a complete waste of her time. She rather do something more meaningful or purposeful.
A LADY’S ROGUE TO RUIN is the sixth book in Sofie Darling’s historical romance series, ALL’S FAIR IN LOVE AND RACING. It is best to read this series in proper order. Characters from the prior books make appearances and/or mentioned throughout the story. Two years have passed since the great horse race that the previous six novels covered. It is nice to see how the couples from the previous book continue with their lives, having children, etc. I have a suspicion that Saskia Calthorp and Liam Cassidy – the brother of Gemma from book one, ODDS ON HE RAKE – will be the next pairing. And I fear their book will end the series.
I do have one nitpick. And the reason why I did not give this book a five-star rating, even though I devoured it in two days. I kind of expected some form of confrontation between Blaze and his lech of a father. I really wanted to see Blaze put his father through the wringer for his past deeds (to him, his mom, and Bea). But nada. I felt disappointed and let down.
What a great series this is. You don’t have to read the books in order, but it's best that you do. They are all about the same family and characters. We learned about Blaze Jagger in some of the past books. He is a man who has many faces. He was raised in the East End by his grandfather and mother. He is also the bastard son of one of the ton. He has pulled himself up from nothing to become part owner of one of the most famous gambling halls. He is very wealthy now and walks in both worlds. He shows one side of himself to the world and the other only to those he cares for and helps. Lady Viveca Calthorp is the sister to his partners, Gabriel a Duke and his sister Tessa. Saskis and Viveca own a circulating library together and are very successful. Viveca is very straight forward and outspoken. She is happy with her life but wants more to experience real life, not the balls and teas of society. When she sees Blaze Jagger in her library, she sees her chance. She makes a deal, she will teach him to read, and he will show her more of what she reads in books. Blaze knows this is going to end badly but can’t say no to the most beautiful, unusual lady he has ever met. Viveca is a rouge in lady’s clothing, taking charge when Blaze less except it. The chemistry between them is off the charts and listening to his inter-sounding voice seems to go unheard most of the time. This is a Hugh role change from most regency and wonderful. It more than overdue for the strong, big rough tough guy to fall flat on his face over the woman he can’t let go and shouldn’t touch either. So much sneaking around, vulnerable insecurity on both sides and of course family and friends are bound to find out. This story is one you just can’t stop reading, lots of laughing along with the need for a cold drink or two. It’s wonderful and that is saying a lot as I have read just about every book Sofie has written. Don’t miss this series, grab a copy, and get started. I fear the next book will be the last, hopefully it will be Saskis turn next. I can’t wait. I received an ARC from the author and wish to thank her. This is my honest opinion and I’m freely giving it.
Sophie Darling’s sixth installment in the All’s Fair in Love and Racing series is nothing short of captivating. Each book feels richer than the last, but Blaze Jagger’s story truly ignites the heart. Having been an enigmatic figure in earlier books, Blaze finally steps into the spotlight—and what a journey it is.
Blaze Jagger is a man of contradictions: an East End upstart, the illegitimate son of an aristocrat, a wealthy rogue with countless facades. But when he seeks refuge from a rainstorm in a circulating library, fate intervenes. There, he meets Lady Viveca Calthorp—a woman whose ambition and success are matched only by her hunger for more. More experiences, more passion, and undeniably, more of Blaze Jagger.
What begins as a simple bargain—she’ll teach him to read, and he'll introduce her to the thrills of his world—quickly spirals into an adventure neither expects. Their chemistry is electric, their banter sharp and delightful, pulling you into a dynamic filled with wit, romance, and heartfelt moments. Blaze, with his carefully constructed persona, reveals layers of tenderness and vulnerability, challenging the rogue image he projects. Meanwhile, Viveca’s determination and spirit refuse to let societal norms—or Blaze’s own doubts—define their connection.
One scene, in particular, left an indelible mark: Viveca’s heartfelt confession of love, her words raw and genuine, brought tears to my eyes. Blaze’s response—declaring he is marrying her out of love alone—was both noble and soul-stirring. Their bond is more than attraction; it’s a profound connection that transcends obstacles. "We share a spirit," she tells him. "We share a heart." Those words encapsulate the very essence of their love story.
Sophie Darling has outdone herself with Blaze and Viveca’s tale—a chance encounter blossoming into an unforgettable romance. If you’re searching for a story that will touch your soul, this is it. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily sharing my thoughts. All opinions are my own.
Finally, the story of Blaze Jagger. This could be read as a standalone, but all the other supporting characters in the rest of the series lend a familiarity to this story. The background of the two MC’s in this class difference romance reveal that their upbringings were far from traditional. Viveca Siren, now Lady Calthorp, her two sisters and brother were orphaned early, but Gabriel and Tessa took care of her and Saskia, until a series of fortunate events and Gabriel’s genius allowed him to own the biggest gaming hell in London, the Archangel. Blaze Jagger, illegitimate son of Lord Lyndon, was raised by his grandfather and mother in London’s East End. He’s the famous and devilishly handsome “bookie” at Epsom Downs…and is partnered with Viveca’s brother Gabriel. He’s also the half brother to Lady Beatrix, daughter of Lord Lydon, and is on his way to have tea with her…but decides to stop in a circulating library where he meets Viveca. It is there that a deal is brokered; the details of which I will not disclose so readers can enjoy the unusual arrangement for themselves. To be purposely vague, they exchange services over a period of time during which they come to appreciate each other intimately. There are numerous poignant moments in this novel, but my favorite, the one that stands out most is Viveca’s meeting Blaze’s mother, a genuine “siren”. I hope this novel reaches the attention of others. It is just as enjoyable as the others in this series. I’m going to have to start over with “Odds on the Rake” in which a duke becomes enamored with his jockey, Gemma Cassidy…after I read Blaze and Viveca’s story again. Kudos to the author! 5 stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 I have received an ARC by Booksprout and I am leaving an unbiased review voluntarily.
“A Lady’s Rouge to Ruin” is book six in Sofie Darling’s series Alls Fair in Love and Racing. This wonderfully entertaining series is still going strong. The two main characters, Viveca and Blaze, are great together. Their chemistry oozes off the page, their banter is fun, witty, and full of steamy double entendres. I liked Viveca for her tenacity, her intelligence, and her determination. She was strong willed to go after what she wanted, and what she wanted was Blaze Jagger. Viveca was not ashamed or shy regarding her passions. Blaze was the perfect match for her. He was flamboyant and intelligent, in spite of the fact he was unable to read. I liked that Blaze was a self made man and how much his name fit the character. I appreciate when an author brings in characters from other stories in the series. Ms. Darling did this here which gave the reader an update on their ongoing lives in this expertly constructed, interconnected world. The stories in the series flow together yet can be read as standalone romances. The pacing of this story keeps the reader involved and interested in what comes next. The intimacy between Blaze and Viveca is open door, super scorching hot and steamy which quite befits the characters. My favorite passage: “You’ve got the book affliction, and there’s no known cure…Except more books.” Isn’t that just perfect? I know I have that affliction! “A Lady’s Rogue to Ruin” is a well written Regency style historical romance with a strong plot and engaging characters. Definitely recommended. You can’t go wrong choosing one of Sofie Darling’s romances.

Sofie Darling is a master storyteller. She draws you in, immerses you in the delightful and delicious world she has created, and then gifts you wonderful characters with whom to fall in love. A Lady's Rogue to Ruin is charming, sweet, and sultry...all at the same time!
Blaze Jagger is the most wonderful hero/rogue; he's a good man who keeps that fact to himself but he's also a walking, talking god of the male species who boils over with charm, good looks, and robust sex appeal. Sweet merciful heavens; I'm in love! Viveca is a wonderful heroine - inquisitive, effervescent, and a book/library nerd (as a former librarian and a forever book nerd, she and I totally bonded). She was so well-written, she just sprang to life; can we be friends?
Did anyone else think the author switched around the hero and heroine's emotional beats at the end? I think Blaze has the heroine's reaction: admits to himself he is in love but sees no path forward for them and ends their relationship. He resumes living his normal life but with a giant hole in his heart. I think Viveca assumes the hero's reaction - she loves him, she won't give up/can't give up because she knows they belong together and is willing to fight for him. She must prove to him they do belong together and does so with a grand gesture that brings them to their HEA. I LOVE this switch; it added an emotional depth to the characters and the story.
I HIGHLY recommend this book (and the whole series). Thank you for an amazing read!
I received an ARC in eBook format from the author in exchange for an honest review.
This book was a delight. It opens with Blaze Jagger ducking into a circulating library to escape the rain, only to stumble straight into Lady Viveca Calthorp. Their first meeting crackles, and the spark just continues and gets stronger and brighter as the story progresses. Viveca wants “more,” and instead of doing the sensible aristocratic thing, she asks a charming rogue to show her his world. Blaze, being the charismatic, slightly chaotic rogue that he is, is thrilled to take her up on it. Their bargain leads to adventures that are equal parts romantic, risky, and absolutely not fit for polite society. The chemistry between them was immediate and explosive. Their “one night” obviously doesn’t stay just one night, and both of them are hilariously bad at pretending they’re not already half in love. This is the kind of historical romance that feels like slipping into a warm bath: indulgent, playful, and just a little wicked. If you enjoy ambitious heroines, irresistible scoundrels, rainy-day meet-cutes, and emotional swoon, you’ll tear through this in one sitting. If you enjoy flirty banter, class-crossing tension, and romances where both leads ruin each other in the best possible way, then this is the book for you!.

Blaze Jagger finally gets his HEA and reader; it’s worth the wait. When Lady Viveca Calthrop (formerly Siren, now sister to a duke) opens a circulating library in the East End, she’s not expecting a rain-soaked rogue with a smoldering stare & a literacy problem. But Blaze, co-owner of a gaming hell & walking contradiction, stumbles in & promptly loses his composure, his heart, & eventually his shirt.
Viveca is no delicate debutante. She’s whip-smart, determined, & delightfully meddlesome. Their chemistry is off the charts, their banter is delicious, & their romance is a slow-burn tumble into mutual respect, steamy affection, & emotional growth. She teaches him to read; he teaches her about horseracing & breaking rules. Together, they rewrite their futures.
Sofie Darling delivers again, there is no third-act breakup, no wasted angst, just a gorgeously layered love story with role reversals, sneaky rendezvous, & a hero who falls hard & fast. Blaze is ruined, & it’s glorious. I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book; all thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is the book where Blaze Jagger gets his own story! I've really enjoyed reading this series, but this book can stand on its own. Blaze, the illegitimate son of a dissolute nobleman, owned a gaming hell. Viveca, the sister of a duke, owned a circulating library. When she discovered that Blaze was unable to read, she wanted to teach him--for a price. Viveca wanted to leave her sheltered existence and have him show her how he lived. As luck would have it, Blaze was intelligent and he learned how to read very quickly. His fear of getting too close to an untouchable aristocrat was also very motivating. The physical chemistry of the couple was sizzling. I was struck by the fact that there was no actual enemy in this novel. The main conflict was in Blaze's own mind. Even though he was a far better man than his noble father, he still didn't think he could be good enough for the sister of a duke. Of course, the story did come to a happy conclusion. Characters from previous books made appearances and I found this to be an enjoyable read.

Soaked by the rain and curious about a crowd on the street in front of a townhouse on Sloane Street, Blaze Jagger finds himself a member of the Siren’s Circulating Library. He also finds himself in the presence of Viveca Clathrop, formerly Siren, the sister of his business partners. These two take pointed notice of each other immediately. Viveca soon picks up on Blaze’s secret; he can’t read. She proposes a deal. She will teach him to read, and he will show her some of life in the world he knows. He agrees. What transpires is a lighthearted romp of adventure and romance. Blaze and Viveca’s story is an absolute delight. There is a bit of drama, a lot of fun, and a few surprises. The characters, familiar from previous stories, are wonderful. Blaze and Viveca are awesome. Things are a little iffy until Viveca realizes Blaze has another secret; he wants to marry for love. Then everything comes together as it should. I received an ARC of this book via BookSprout and voluntarily reviewed it.
We have Lady Viveca Calthorp and Blaze Jagger a couple who should not work but do! Blaze ducks into Sirens Circulating Library one rainy afternoon becomes a patron and meets Viveca! Viveca is intelligent, beautiful and everything Blaze could never have! Viveca sees his secret and resolved to make a deal with him in exchange for her help Blaze would show her an adventure. Women love Blaze but only for a romp in the hay! Blaze is secretly a romantic at heart! He is tough on the outside but not many know of his inside! Viveca propositions him from the first not understanding quite what they have! What happens when an immovable force meets an hurricane in disguise? You get two people who were absolutely made for one another! Of course there is racing involved and Blaze is a consummate business man with a Midas touch! But the ultimate win is far away from the Epsom Downs! Bravo well done! I received an ARC copy for my unbiased review!
Fantastic story. Keeps the readers turning the pages. Full of everything you need to enjoy- drama, society, steam, love and twists. Blaze is the co-owner of the Archangel, a men's club and also a by blow, who just isn't really accepted by society. Lady Viveca is the sister of a Duke, who just happens to be the co owner of the same club. Blaze meets Viveca in a Library when he seeks shelter from the rain. Each likes what they see and tension that they feel. She realizes that he can't read so she offers to teach him for him helping her to see what the different side of society is really like. Lots of sparks and fireworks between them. Also has the return of characters from earlier books in this series. Each is on their own emotional journey yet are multidimensional to make this an exciting, masterful story to curl up with. Would recommend this story or the rest of the series.

It’s not often that a man who can’t read ducks out of the rain, & becomes a member of a circulating library. Blaze Jagger not only discovers the calm of being amongst the books, but also Lady Viveca Calthorp. They have an immediate pull towards each other, & soon a secret bargain to go with it. Neither Viveca or Blaze fits perfectly into the boxes society has built for them. She’s a smart, outspoken, entrepreneurial young woman who’s been shaped by an unconventional upbringing. Blaze is a smart, wily, illegitimate son of a lord who’s succeeded in business against all odds. These two just fit, & it’s entertaining reading as they figure it out. Plenty of well-written banter, laughs, & loads of steam along the way. I honestly didn’t want this book to end, & wish I could follow what Viveca & Blaze get up to in the future. I’m hoping we’ll have glimpses in the next book. Can’t wait! Thanks to the author & publisher for allowing me to read an advance copy of this one via Booksprout.
A Lady’s Rogue to Ruin is the sixth book in the All’s Fair in Love and Racing series. Although it is part of a series, it can easily be read as a standalone.
I enjoyed this book because Blaze Jagger has long been a favourite character. It was satisfying to see him finally meet his match in Lady Viveca Calthorp.
Their relationship, evolving from teacher and student to lovers, was a delight. Their story blended humour, passion, and emotion, and it was fast-paced, which ensured there was never a dull moment.
This whole series has been wonderful to read, with this instalment being one of my favourite books.

Lady Viveca Calthorp met Blaze Jagger when he popped into her library to escape the rain. After ascertaining that Blaze couldn’t read, Viveca offered to teach him in exchange for him showing her the side of London she wasn’t privy to as a lady. As they spent time unchaperoned, they both realized they were attracted to each other. Though Blaze tried to back away, Viveca was determined to get her experience and they start a steamy affair. A Lady’s Rogue to win is a sensational addition to the All’s Fair in Love and Racing series. In it we are reacquainted with Viveca and Blaze’s sibling from previous books. I am always excited to read a Sofie Darling historical and ,as usual, I finished reading it in one sitting. I am recommending it for anyone who loves regency books with ❤️🔥and a HEA.
Lady Viveca Calthorps has established a lending library with her sister Saskia. A gambling hell owner, Blaze Jagger, comes in, and loves the ambiance despite the fact that he can’t read. After a brief interaction with Viveca, she discerns he is illiterate. Thus begins their relationship. This story has a nice theme which ends with a HEA for Blaze and Viveca. Along the way, the layers of Blaze’s personality are revealed, which he has hidden under the persona of owner of a gambling den. There are frequent intimate scenes between Blaze and Viveca, which are ‘blazing’ hot—reader be ware!.

Lady Viveca is invested in her lending library with her sister. Blaze walks in out of the rain and encounters her fiery and sparkling nature. She has seen him in the past and feels the pull of attraction especially with the diamond stud in his ear. She plans to teach him to read in exchange for adventure. Blaze realizes this could be problematic as her other siblings are his business partners. Enjoyable in depth characterization of Blaze that shaped his life. A romance that is fragile and strengthens with time and sensual encounters. Characters from previous book woven in realistically. I received an ARC but the honest opinion is my own.
This is one very delicious story of an East End rat made good, Blaze, and Miss turned Lady Viveca. She has a heart for adventure and knows Blaze can give it, but how to get him to do it? I adored the flip-flop of him being chased and how she had to come to terms with what he wanted. All of your emotions get involved and I loved how she threw the “tons” rules away to get what she wanted. I appreciate the f-bomb being absent(thank you author!) or at least disguised. I even learned a few tricks on how to say words when learning to read! Great story, witty, fun and oh so lovely! Fantastic story!.

Lady Viveca finds her brother and sister’s business partner Blaze Jagger at her library and quickly discovers he doesn’t know how to read and offers to teach him in return for him showing her his world. At first, he is reluctant, but she makes him understand something that was beyond him for years and he comes to enjoy and spending time with her too. It isn’t long before their secret encounters turn steamy, and he wants more than just a temporary lover but doesn’t think their worlds can come together. Viveca was pushy, going after Blaze even when he turns her away and going to places alone and risking her reputation and more. This was a steamy across classes romance.
Two worlds collide Meet Blaze Jagger, bastard son of an aristocrat, half-brother of a Lady with capital L, successful businessman, well small detail his business is a gaming hell. Lady Viveca makes his acquaintance at the circulating library she is keeping with her sister, of all places. When she discovers that he can’t read, although he has an extraordinary affinity with numbers, she proposes to teach him in exchange for adventures… in his world. What will happen when the adventures turn amorous, knowing that Blaze is known for his aversion to marriage? I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Entertaining Historical Romantic Adventure He owns a gaming den; she runs a circulating library. When Blaze Jagger takes shelter from the rain in Viveca Calthorp’s library, neither could have guessed how much their lives would change. A secret is revealed, a bargain struck, and soon the two are drawn irresistibly to one another—despite the gulf between her aristocratic world and his status as a marquess’s bastard. Does that stop them? Not for long. Their adventure is as thrilling as the spark that ignites between them. I thoroughly enjoyed this steamy historical romance. If you like sizzling chemistry, class differences, and a lady exploring a rogue’s world, this story will delight.
I loved the unconventional characters in this romance and especially the outrageous Blaze Jagger. Like many, Blaze compensates for his lack of learning with a larger-than-life façade, but underneath it all lies a kind man with a huge heart. Lady Viveca wasn't always a lady, and her background gives her an understanding and compassion for Blaze. When she sees his obsession with books, she offers a trade: one lesson from her in exchange for an introduction to his world. The novel comes to a delightful conclusion, bringing completion to both Viveca and Blaze. I received a copy of this book as a gift through Oliver Heber Books and BookSprout, and this is my honest and voluntary review.
