Would you erase your past to find true love?

On an isolated tropical island, a cutting-edge artificial intelligence program promises to match each participant with their perfect soulmate.

Theo joins the program with his best friend Asher and his girlfriend Emma, expecting to reunite inside the program and share an unforgettable spring break together. But the program comes with a twist. Each participant’s memories of past relationships are wiped clean, leaving them in paradise to rediscover love using only their instincts, new experiences, and carefully crafted encounters.

As the days pass, Theo is caught between the island’s ancient magic and the algorithm’s carefully designed path. With time slipping away, he must choose whether to follow the system, trust the island’s sacred legend, or listen to the quiet pull of his own heart.

The Soulmate Algorithm is a sweet, lighthearted sci-fi romance that asks whether love can be guided by technology and fate, or if it lives in the choices we make ourselves.

Perfect for fans of speculative romance, mythical charm, and the emotional journey of self-discovery.

I really enjoyed reading The Soulmate Algorithm. It’s a unique, light sci-fi romance with a lot of heart and some thought-provoking questions at its core. I found myself relating to Theo, the main character, right from the start. His discomfort and anxiety about losing his memories and not trusting the program felt very real to me, and I appreciated following the story entirely from his perspective.

The settings were described beautifully, from the tranquil opening in Theo’s bedroom to the sterile, almost Apple store-like facility, and then to the lush, unpredictable island. The writing really captured the changing moods—serene, tense, chaotic, or magical—depending on what was happening in the story. The food descriptions were a fun bonus, always making the island life feel vivid and immersive.

What resonated with me most was Theo’s emotional arc: his willingness to try the program despite his deep discomfort, and the way that anxiety grew as he wondered what parts of his real life might be slipping away. The impersonal, almost robotic staff on the island added to the unsettling atmosphere, making me feel the same sense of alienation as Theo.

The book left me pondering some big questions: does the algorithm actually help people find love, or do they discover it themselves in this unusual setting? Can technology really guide matters of the heart? I also wondered if people would want to repeat the experience—something that feels especially relevant in the age of dating apps.

The pacing was great; I read the book in about five hours and found the day-by-day structure on the island kept me turning the pages. The story ends in just the right place, leaving room for imagination without overstaying its welcome.

Mark Maruska’s descriptive writing style really sets the scenes and helps you feel present in each moment. The book’s premise, finding love with your memories wiped, made for some memorable encounters and emotional twists. While the sci-fi elements are light, the memory loss adds an intriguing layer to the romance.

I’d recommend this book to anyone who enjoys romance stories, especially those curious about how technology and love might intersect. It’s a bit like young adult fiction but geared toward slightly older readers, and I think fans of speculative romance will enjoy it.

I’m looking forward to checking out the audiobook to see how the narrator brings these characters to life, especially in the dialogue. I’d also love to read more stories set in this world, maybe from Emma or Asher’s perspective!

Overall, The Soulmate Algorithm is an engaging, thought-provoking read that left me with questions and a desire to revisit its world.
