This book is an interesting concept - what would happen if we started paying attention to the things in between? What happens in a book between one page and the next? Have you ever noticed the moment between when you get food and take the first bite?  Some betweens are long, like a child growing from a baby to a big kid.  Sometimes they are short, like the time it takes to drop your ice cream. The story is deceptively simple, but there are multiple complex ideas that could inspire conversations.  It asks the reader to look at this middle area and see it for the space it takes up.  It alludes to the pacing used in storytelling or the science of time and includes images that could introduce the idea of negative space in art and science.  The illustrations are done in a cartoon-like style, in a mix of hand drawn images and digital art.  The story centers around one family, and all characters are people of color. Love the images and the idea behind the book. Teaching kids about the space between things starting and ending, starting and changing to something else. The space between one thing and the other. Never thought much about it, but this book does make you think about what you do with those moments between moments.
