The Mountain Knows

Rate this book
In a village where beauty is everything, Sloane is traded away like damaged goods.

Her marriage to Owen Knox feels like punishment—he can barely look at her and treats their union like a burden. But their matching burn scars aren't coincidence, and the way he shields her from flames suggests a connection deeper than memory.

What really happened the night that marked them both?

As fragments of a forgotten truth surface, Sloane discovers some loves are written in fire, some bonds forged in sacrifice, and some secrets too devastating to stay buried.

The mountains chose them for a reason.

Because the heart remembers what the mind has forgotten.

A romance of hidden connections and the kind of love that transcends everything.

This story is dramatic, heartfelt, hilarious, heartbreaking, joyful, and romantic. It is about fate, familily (both blood-related and found), and everlasting love.

If you enjoy cozy, fast pace, witty banter induced story, READ THIS 🤭🖤✨

OMGEE! This story gave me all the feel and emotions and just everything! I absolutely loved everything about this! The character growth, the witty banter, the relatable-ness of how to navigate through insecurities and finding your people in life👏👏👏 I couldn’t get enough of Sloane and Owen and all the characters!

I’m not sure if the transfer into kindle messed up the formatting so it took a minute to figure out but otherwise, this story was beautifully written imo🤗 So great i overlooked the formatting. Cant wait to get into Paige’s other books✨

love story that burns through the fire

Great story line that unravels and connects past to present. FMC Sloane has weathered many internal battles and meets initially broody Owen, who is intended to be her betrothed in the mountains that are far from Sloane’s normal. Has some twists that you don’t expect, lovely story line.

I really enjoyed the concept of this book. the story felt fresh and unique. At times, the writing did feel a bit repetitive, and some of the conflict seemed unnecessary, but overall it was still a good read.

I didn’t expect this story to resonate with me the way it did. So many of us struggle with self-doubt, feeling like we’re not worthy, not enough, or too broken to ever be put back together. That’s what made this story ache in the best way. It gives us hope for healing, for allowing ourselves to be truly seen, realizing we aren’t alone, and learning to love ourselves the way we deserve.

Sloane was raised in a community that worships physical perfection, where scars like her own, or any other perceived flaws, mark someone as damaged and unwanted. So when the Mountain men come offering trade goods that benefit the town and seeking brides in exchange, Sloane and her friends are handed over without hesitation. But everything Sloane believed begins to shift. In this new village, scars aren’t flaws they’re stories, strength, survival. She watches her friends be valued and cherished for the very things they were taught to hate, and they fall easily for men who truly see them. Unfortunately, Sloane’s story isn’t so simple. She’s bound to Owen, the Captain’s son, who adamantly rejects the match. Forced into a marriage with a man who refuses her, she’s left navigating this new life while feeling just as alone as before. All while trying to make sense of the pull she feels toward the quiet, brooding Owen, whose own scars make him nearly impossible to reach.

So Mr. Owen Knox… I have never wanted to slap a man more. This self-sabotaging, stubborn man believes he isn’t enough for Sloane, so he builds his walls as high as possible while still looking at her like she’s his whole world. But when enough is enough and Sloane finally lets him have it, I was happily sitting back with my popcorn, watching him get everything he had coming, and maybe an eye poke too, iykyk.

The tension between them is its own beast, equal parts painful and addictive as they circle each other, wanting and resisting all at once. You keep waiting for the moment they finally stop holding back and choose each other. But like some love stories, it takes time. As their story unfolds, we begin to uncover pieces of a past they’ve both buried. Slowly, the truth comes to light that he has been fighting for her far longer than either of them even realized. They are fated, but sometimes fate needs a push, and now it’s her turn to fight for him.

This story is raw, emotional, and deeply human, with a pure, true love that still lingers with me.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ | The Mountain Know by Paige Mohr

Indie author Paige Mohr absolutely stunned me with The Mountain Know. This is a breathtaking tale of love, pain, and sacrifice that lingers long after you close the book.

From the beautifully written dedication page to the final paragraph, this novel is overflowing with lyrical prose, vivid imagery, and quotes that feel like they were etched directly into your heart. Every page reverberates with passion.

The story follows Sloan — a woman physically and emotionally scarred after being maimed by fire. She believes she is unlovable, irreparably damaged, and ugly in ways that go far beyond the surface. When she is traded into the mountains for supplies alongside friends, her life takes a sharp turn. She is quickly married to Owen — a broody, guarded man with scars and demons of his own.

What unfolds is not just a romance, but a deeply intimate exploration of healing. Sloan and Owen must learn to look past their physical scars and the pain of their pasts. Together, they begin the slow, vulnerable work of seeing each other clearly — and even harder than that — learning to love the person staring back at them in the mirror.

There are twists woven throughout the story, moments of raw beauty, and an emotional intensity that feels almost palpable. It’s a quick read, but it never feels rushed — every scene carries weight and intention.

This book is packed with passion, ache, tenderness, and hard-won love. I cannot wait to read more from Paige Mohr.

If you love scarred-hero romances, emotional healing arcs, and stories that make you feel seen in your brokenness — this one is for you.

The Mountain Knows was my first book by author Paige Mohr and I absolutely adored it. This book truly gave me all of the feels. The way that Sloane and the interactions are written, you literally have no choice but to root for her and hard. She is a strong woman who has gone through so much.

Owen, my new love, Owen. There were times I absolutely wanted to shake him but truly he is impossible not to love. He is the strong, silent type who has also had hardships in the past. But the way he cares for and protects Sloane absolutely melted me.

This was a slow, slow burn but in the best way. I loved the healing journey for both of the characters and how they couldn't ignore the pull to each other.

I'd highly recommend this book (but Owen is mine). This is a journey and a story you don't want to miss.

I absolutely loved this book! Finished it in 24 hours because it gripped me from the beginning and I couldn't put it down! The chemistry and tension between these characters was beautifully done, and so raw with emotion and healing. This story had so much heart, you could feel it in every word. Of course, in true Paige Mohr fashion, fantastic banter is incorporated and I found myself laughing out loud a few times. But mostly, this book is full of emotional depth, healing, and recognizing inner beauty. I highly recommend this lovely romance story that tells about two emotionally broken people who were destined from childhood to be together, and who ultimately heal one another's old wounds.
