Rou is the younger brother of Hinata's unrequited love, Makoto, and is cheeky but spoiled, like a cute "little brother" to Hinata. Hinata himself is completely unaware that Rou has had a crush on Hinata for a long time, and can't yet see Rou as an adult. However, when Rou, now grown up, approaches him with a manly face and begs him to do so, Hinata just can't refuse him. He is constantly at the mercy of Rou's mean but sweet behavior and his occasional clumsy kindness. A BL story about childhood friends, starting with a one-sided love and evolving into so much more!
I didn't think I'd enjoy it this much, but their relationship is so warm, like a cozy blanket on a rainy day. These two are absolutely head over heels for each other and you can feel it in every single panel.
We've got a sulky younger top and a sweet, kind older bottom, both equally cute in their own ways. I never thought I'd be this invested in just... cuddling? But here we are. They're just so perfect together and watching them exist in their little bubble of softness and affection completely stole my heart.
If you're looking for a feel-good, low-angst romance that'll leave you smiling like an idiot….this is it!!!
This was really cute! It wasn’t that sort of story like “oh i’ll get with my straight crushes lil bro coz he looks exactly like him” — this was totally cute coz the lil bro has had a crush on Hinata for ages! And basically he blitzed into Hina’s life and settled in his apartment where their love slowly blossomed!!!
This is one of Yoriko's weaker BLs. There's not much chemistry between the characters. Their love is born not of passion but of resignation: Rou feels more like a stray dog that Hinata eventually settles for than a full-fledged love interest. It's fascinating how Yoriko is clearly drawn to the same physical traits and personality types in her leads, such as droopy eyes and crybabies. If you want to read something by them, I would recommend the far superior Sugar Dog Life or Terano-kun & Kumazaki-kun.
I recently read something with a similar story line about the mc loving their best friend but ending up with the younger brother instead… and I liked that one and this one too! It was cute! I loved Toki being so forwardly affectionate towards Hinata. I loved all the sweet hugs. Yeah, there’s smut too but it was nice to not have too much of it.
Brothers best friend at its finest. Imagine you are in love with your best friend but they are happy in a committed relationship. All of the sudden their little brother who is now an big adult forces his way in to your apartment and your life... That's this story. I like this author, they are enjoyable reads without too much angst or big feels.
I received a digital copy of this manga from Media Lab Public Relations for the purpose of reviewing.
This is a delightful manga about two men experiencing unrequited love in their own way, and how they come together from it.
Hinata has always liked (as in, romantically), his best friend Makoto. But Makoto just announced he’s moving in with his girlfriend, and while no one’s said it out loud, marriage will probably happen eventually, too. Hinata is heartbroken.
But literally as soon as the tears start falling, Toki (Makoto’s younger brother) knocks on the door, begging to stay over with Hinata because he had a fight with his family.
Hinata reluctantly agrees, and my favorite romantic trope, ONLY ONE BED, makes its first appearance in the manga! There is no second futon, and while one of the men could sleep on the couch, Toki is insistent they share a bed, and that (through actions, not words) Hinata be his pillow.
Thus starts the ever-growing relationship between Toki and Hinata. Toki tries to make his feelings very, very obvious, by being clingy and making “jokes” about his feelings or how he pays attention to Hinata. But also, the longer he stays with Hinata, the more he contributes to the household, like rent, expenses, making food, cleaning, etc.
Then at night…Toki can’t keep his hands off of Hinata, and the relationship becomes physical. Hinata is in serious denial about why Toki is doing things to him that feel good, while Toki is living out his fantasies of finally being with Hinata.
It comes to a head when Makoto invites Hinata (and a jealous Toki) to his and his girlfriend’s house. Toki sees how Hinata still looks at Makoto and gets possessive. Makoto’s girlfriend can pick up what Toki is laying down, but both Makoto and Hinata are oblivious.
This leads to a desperate plea and confession from Toki as Hinata continually doesn’t get it.
From here on out I’m going to stop summarizing, but the overall question the plot is asking is, can these two lovers, who know what it’s like to have their love unreturned, find love in each other? Will Hinata ever get over his feelings for Makoto when someone who loves him is standing right there in front of him?
Readers, I really enjoyed this quite a bit. I wasn’t always on board with Toki–he’s bossy and clingy, which doesn’t always float my boat–but his feelings for Hinata are crystal clear and consistent, and I love how hard he blushes when he has to come right out and say stuff bluntly in order for Hinata to get where he’s coming from. Actually, he blushes pretty much through everything, even with what’s unsaid. It’s pretty cute.
I like that the will-they/won’t they isn’t drawn out for too long, and that we get a resolution that feels natural with its timing and growth. The sex scenes are pretty steamy even if the first one is kind of dubious, but they improve so much when love has been declared.
I liked the art in this one. Characters are very emotional and uniquely drawn, and both Hinata and Toki make great facial expressions. I liked Toki’s character design a lot–he looks like trouble but is actually a puppy dog.
As with many romances, this BL romance ends on an HEA that I really appreciated. I believe this is a standalone, but I think there’s enough here to develop into at least a second volume, which I would gladly read.
I think I'll need to reread this one to appreciate it more. I liked it, but it felt like it should've hit harder emotionally.
Hinata is a gay, overworked salaryman who's been in unrequited love with his straight best friend Makoto for years. This needed a bit more development to show how deeply Hinata was impacted by Makoto's announcement that he was moving in with his girlfriend and would be marrying her in the near future. I got that Hinata was heartbroken about this, but didn't really feel it, because there was no build up to this moment.
Immediately after, Makoto's younger brother (6 years age gap) shows up at Hinata's door and says he's had a fight with his parents and wants to move in temporarily. Makoto, who's feeling incredibly lonely and sad, agrees with some hesitation that eventually turns into genuine happiness over having someone to come home to every day.
Most of their relationship is very sweet. Toki is louder and brasher than his brother, and openly affectonate. Hinata finds him adorable - initially in an older brother way, which eventually turns into a different kind of affection as he gets more and more wrapped up in how well they get along and how nice it is to care about someone without having to hold back. They have good chemistry, and Toki is generally very careful to keep his attention focused on Hinata without pressuring him.
Except for one really weird scene where they have sex, pretty early on, and then pretend like that wouldn't impact their relationship in any way and that Toki's confession and kiss would still come as kind of a surprise? In a way, it's a kind of BL trope...there wasn't enough spice so it got thrown in to Make Things More Interesting, when all it really did was derail the relationship growth.
Still, it was somewhat recovered by Toki explaining later that the kiss was more embarrassing because it was more meaningful: it wasn't just a physical release, it was showing Hinata how much he loves him and how scared he is to lose him.
I liked that Makoto and his girlfriend really did feel like Hinata's family in addition to Toki's; the girlfriend treating Toki like her bratty little brother (and cluing in on his crush on Hinata) was funny and cute. And I liked how clear it was, even to clueless Makoto, that Toki has basically been in love with Hinata his entire life, and finally grew up enough to do something about it.
It's a cute story. It has some flaws, but I liked the overall idea, and I think it might feel a bit more impactful on future rereads.
Ugh. Why can’t Japan get over weepy bottoms with big eyes?
I mean, it’s not offensive, but it’s not all that interesting either. Neither Hinata nor Toki are interesting, or even particularly memorable. I’m pretty sure I’d bought and read this previously, but I bought it again and only remembered I’d read it when I opened the digital version. Kindle remembered my last place for me.
And I’m not saying every guy has to be like my tiniest son Haiga, but my God, aim a little higher, please.

I also got the 16-page extra, which was more enjoyable because hey, it’s an extra. But still. Meh.
It was cute! I was surprised by how cute the relationship dynamic was. I was a little nervous about the ‘seeing him as your little brother’ start and the age gap but the work didn’t use that aspect in a way to make me uncomfortable it was more just used as an excuse to let his guard down in the beginning of the story so I didn’t mind it. Very sweet ultimately!
Me encanta ◝(ᵔᵕᵔ)◜
I loved this story. My heart hurt with the main character right away but recovered as the story evolved, much like how heartbreak resolves. It was a whole story in one manga, which is great because no cliffhangers, but sad because there is no more to read. I'll have to pick up more manga from this author because it was so well done.
probably the best of this specific trope where mc has an unrequited love and ends up with younger sibling of said unrequited love who has always liked them
Really enjoyed this, definitely my type of genre. I was excited for the release of this book and it didn’t disappoint. It was cute. I’d read it again and recommend it.
