5 books in and it's another mystical magical society causing harm to others and Elone gets captured and has to rescue herself from another threat to her life due to her magic. The bow is returned to her. I never realized in the years I have been listening to this story how short the books are and how it seems to go on and on with different risks to her life. On going Saga.
I still enjoy the series as this is one of the first audio books I owned and have enjoyed it for years. I think if it was something I currently read or listened to this late in my audio and kindle journey, I don't believe I'd be very happy at the author for stringing me on to purchase more books. Ya - that doesn't work for me anymore. Still no ending to the journey yet in book 5.
Again, the journey continues. C. Greenwood has another aspect of Ilan's world for us to view. We can once more become lost in another world, a different time and place. She keeps me stuck to the story most pleasantly. This is my second visit to the Legends of Dimmingwood and I find it as pleasing this time as it was the first time.

Currently available on Kindle Unlimited, the fifth novella in this series takes place outside of Dimmingwood during Ilan’s year of exile. There’s plenty of incident and adventure, but all in summary form. The novella is pleasantly written and easily readable, but it doesn’t have the epic feel of the previous episode. Although Ilan finds and then loses her only relative, this all happens so fast as not to provide any tangible background. Her relationship with her love interest only provides bland squabbles and does not advance. An okay read in the end, but not one to return to. On to the last episode in this series now, but there’s no buildup to a big climax. Three stars.
I was so excited to find this in the books I can borrow because I am a prime member! I just finished rereading books 1-4 and figured it was time I finish the series. Ilan has come a long way since the beginning of this series, and so has Terrac! This little portion of their adventure brings us into Ilan's finding of more of her past, which is always really cool, and pushes more towards her future. I enjoyed reading this adventure, and am quickly delving into Rule of Thieves!
This one was actually the best so far in the series. It takes place outside of Dimmingwood, so there is some additional world building. Ilan has really grown, but she still has that bold and reckless streak that makes her interesting. The pacing is fast and consistent so the story never lags, and there are even some unexpected twists. Still not sold on the romance with Terrac, but I enjoyed reading the story and look forward to more of Ilan's adventures.
This series just keeps getting better and better. Again I read this in one sitting. to short, cause before I knew it I was finished. The main Characters are such a treat to follow and root for, you'll just fall in love with them. The author does a great job describing everything, you can picture it in your mind, like you are there walking with them. Great Reading Everyone!
I would say this was an interesting story which filled in a few gaps and created some new hooks for future stories. If you have not read the first four books you would be lost. I recommend it to anyone who has read the other books in the series.
Journey of Thieves (Legends of Dimmmingwood Book 5)
Ilan journey to the ocean and find she has a grandmother. Her love for Terrace is put to a test. Ilan meet a new enemy and she must fight to keep her magical people save. Great story.
Journey of Thieves follows our protagonist as she learns more about natural magic and her ancestry. Misfortune at a community offering her shelter brings Ilan into armed combat.
I started this series just to preview it to make sure it was good for kids. I ended up enjoying it a lot and going through all five books that we had of it.
Ilan has been given one year and a day to return to Praetor Tarius's service. Ilan is traveling with Hadrian and Terrac. Ilan is still recovering from magical backlash and unable to draw out any more magic despite attempts to use it. Hadrian is searching for more magic users for his book. Someone is trying to kill Ilan but doesn't know why. The largest magical community is called Swiftsell Ilan learns a startling secret and clues to her past. What are these secrets and clues? Who wants Ilan dead? Your answers await you in Journey of Thieves.
I was really surprised at the direction this book went and could clearly see the journey it took me on. The characters are all growing and changing in numerous ways that are too many to list. This series is an easy read, it's so smooth and steady that you can't put it down. Looking forward to the next book in this series.
Just finished the latest installment in the Legends of Dimmingwood series. I thought it was a really nice continuation to the series. I admit, it felt weird for Ilan to be taken out of the forest, but seeing her in new settings was a nice change, too. I also liked how this book offered glimpses of the world written about in Mistress of Masks: it helped link the two series in my mind. I think my favorite part of this book was the dragon people Ilan encountered. They were very original and, I thought, interesting enough to merit a future series of their own? Lots of room for exploration and expansion there! All in all a great follow up novel. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
In magic of thieves one will find a world filled with magic, weapons and friendship. The main character, ilan is a girl that has a natural magical ability. She starts to discover her full magical extent. She is also proficient with many weapons because she must survive through hard times. She rediscovers friendship with her ex-friend, he had become the ally to ilans worst enemy, the praetor. This book is a excellent fantasy book for all. A must read, so go and read it.
Another great installment in the Dimmingwood fantasy series, where yet again Ilan finds herself battling a new enemy.
However, this episode also adds to the mystery of her past...or maybe brings some answers. In addition, there is a hidden enemy and a developing situation with Tarrac.
This tangent journey delves further into Ilan's character and reasons for her choices.
The time for Ilan to return is getting near. The 12 month deadline is almost up. In the meantime, there are still adventures to be had. This is one that Ilan manages almost by herself. This one is a quick read just to fill in time. Enjoyable enough for all that. I am ready to read the next in the series.
It was nice to see Ilan meet and find out about a family member she did not know she had, as well as a bit more about her mother. The next book is the last in the series and should wrap everything up such as the identity of the person that wants her dead as well as most likely the revealing of her relatiopnship to the praetor.
Read this in about 2 hours. Lots of fluffy language, but still, good enough for me to not put it down. I wish the author would utilize a plot map or something. I do love the spunk and ferocity Ilan is demonstrating.
I was very pleased with all six of these. It is a very interesting series all six books were finished no cliffhanger's and yet interesting enough to keep you going forward to the next book. I give all six five-star rating.
I love ask these books and can't wait for book 5 to come out! I love ask the adventure she look forward to seeing what develops between Ilan and Terrac.
