Two rival families. A marriage between their heirs. In public, it’s love. But in private? It’s war. Aiden Prince is the arrogant heir to the old money family that destroyed mine. He’s hazel-eyed and sharp-jawed, the golden boy of high society. I’m the girl who’s never belonged in his world. At sixteen, I poured my soda on his loafers. He told me to lick it off. At eighteen, I learned the truth—Aiden’s family took everything from mine. I vowed to make everyone who mocked us eat their words. At thirty, I have the chance to get back everything Aiden’s family stole…but I have to marry Aiden to do it. In public, we’re the perfect couple. But in private? We’re playing a dangerous game—the first one to desire the other loses. I’ll never give an inch to Aiden…until I see who he is beneath his cold exterior. He’ll do anything to protect me. His touch sets me on fire. His world doesn’t want me. My family doesn’t want him. We promised to divorce once our deal is done…and we each lose everything if we fall in love.
Sophia Travers has been reading romance novels for as long as she can remember (sorry, Mom, for stealing all those books and hiding them under the bed). Ever since she discovered that writing romance is just as addicting as reading it, she's been populating fictional worlds with smitten heroes and ambitious heroines. She loves enemies to lovers, second chances, heroines who know what they want, and lots and lots of angst.
💥 The Heir by Sophia Travers Crownhaven #1 Huge thanks to Sophia Travers & Love Notes PR for the ARC 💌
Ok so, this one was SUCH a wild ride of banter, tension, and that slow-burn deliciousness that hits just right. Aiden and Emory? Absolute power couple energy — from savage roast battles to those low-key heart-melting moments you didn’t see coming.
Aiden is the classic golden boy with that broody, cold exterior but you can feel there’s more beneath — and Emory? Girl’s got ambition, brains, and a fire that made me root for her always. They have that push-pull chemistry where every glance and word is loaded with meaning, even when they’re pretending to hate each other.
The whole marriage of convenience + family rivalry thing gave me all the high society drama I didn’t know I needed. Crownhaven sounds like a dream place to live, honestly — polo fields, secret gardens, the works. I wanted to move in ASAP.
Their banter? Hilarious and sharp AF. The email and text threads sprinkled throughout? Chef’s kiss. Gave me some actual LOL moments when I needed them. But it wasn’t all jokes — there’s real emotion under the surface. Their flaws and vulnerabilities were shown with care, which made their slow melt so satisfying to watch.
Only thing I wished for? More of that juicy rivalry lore. Felt like some backstory was glossed over too fast, and the ending zipped by a bit quicker than I wanted. I was craving to see Emory’s glow-up even more, because girl deserves it.
But overall? This is a binge-worthy read if you love enemies-to-lovers with real feelings, smart characters, and slow-burn tension that doesn’t frustrate but feeds your bookish soul.
Also, shoutout to the side characters — Aiden’s siblings were pure gold and their acceptance of Emory made me happy-cry a bit.
If you want a spicy, emotional slow burn with clever banter and a fake marriage that slowly turns into something real, this is the book for you.

Thank you to author Sophia Travers and NetGalley for a copy of the e-ARC. I'm including my honest thoughts directly below.

This book follows our FMC, Emory Hunter, as she enters into a marriage contract with Aiden Prince, the heir to the family who took everything from her. Everyone's first thought is that the marriage is fake but what if she can prove that it isn't fake while not falling in love with him in the process?
–––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
I'll admit it openly for everyone to read it: this book made me cry so hard. I normally hate it when a book makes me cry but this one was a clear exception. I loved this book from the get-go and hated that it ended.
I get nervous when I see a book over 450 pages but this one didn't feel like it dragged at all, which is something I enjoyed about it. I was definitely surprised by how much I enjoyed this book but that's a good thing, for sure.
I normally don't read contemporary romance but this one fit what I needed at the time when I started the book. Thank goodness because I needed a palate cleanser after the book I had just finished prior to this one.
I was completely obsessed with this book and kept wanting to read it. I put other things aside and even put another book aside in favor of this book, which should say a lot, right? I hope the next books in this series/trilogy are as good as this one is!
Yes, I'd obviously recommend this book. This shouldn't have to be said but I'm saying it anyway. I loved every second of this book and would read it again in a heartbeat. I'll shout this from the rooftops if I need to. lmao
Thank you to the lovers Notes PR and Sophia Travers for provindig me with ARC in exchange for an honest review
MADRE DEL AMOR HERMOSO!!!! Que libro. 😍💞💓
This was entertaining, and I liked the banter between Emory and Aiden. I'm usually 50-50 with enemies to lovers because often, they don't really feel like enemies at all. And I think that's the case here as well. Their families have been rivals for more over a century now. They used to get along well, but something happened between their ancestors, and ever since, they've been at odds.
There was a piece of land that belonged to both families, and each family wants its share. Emory found a deed that specifically says it can be split "to married Prince and Hunter" (their surnames). Her understanding was that both of them have to be married (separately) in order for the land transfer to go through. But when Aiden read the deed, he realized that the marriage has to happen between their families and not with other people. So, he used this opportunity for his gain as well. The thing is, his grandfather has been actively searching for a suitable wife for him. But, he has no interest in these women, and he understands that he won't be able to show them the kind of love he believes they deserve. He thought he might as well marry Emory instead, since there wouldn't be any expectations hanging over them. Also, they would get a divorce as soon as the land transfer was completed. Anyway, they got married that same night, much to the chagrin of their families.
I think Aiden's family was more like royalty because of their name and generational wealth. And Emory's family is doing pretty well for themselves, but people tend to look down on them since they're in the casino business. I don't understand why that' a bad thing, though. Oh wait, I think they had some shady business too, but I might be wrong. 🤔 Her father had spent his whole life seeking the approval of their society, but it seemed like he never got anywhere with it. Emory was looking for ways to help her dad and somehow change their family's perceptions.
Apparently these two have been around each other since they were young (teenagers, I think). They went to the same prep school, but since their families are "enemies," nothing much happened between them but animosity. But despite their dislike they were still attracted to one another. I think they also went to the same college. They were still hating each other at this point and have lived their own lives.
This has the vibe of mutual pining, but they never really do anything about it. Emory thinks Aiden's family is way too high on their horse, and he sees her family as morally questionable. But since they got married, they have to live in the same house and sell this marriage. They have to pretend to be in love in public and make their elopement believable.
Obviously there's force proximity. Although they have separate rooms, the bathroom is shared. 🤭 TBH, it was a slow story, but I understand it. They were navigating their fake marriage and family and society expectations, all the while their buried feelings were resurfacing every time they discovered something new about each other that proved their initial impression wrong.
But then again, it wasn't boring at all, since their interactions and banter were entertaining most times. 😂 They were both competitive, as that was their history, but they also know when to admit defeat. Also, despite them disliking each other, this couple is probably one of the most honest and open MCs I've ever read. Emory was pretty much an open book, and even though Aiden wasn't the type to share a lot, he did open up to her. Even his siblings saw how much he changed since he married her. 🤭
I really have no issues between these two, they are 100% likeable. What they have is probably one of the healthiest fictional relationships I've come across. There's no toxicity, and both are understanding, willing to listen, and supportive of one another. It didn't really feel like enemies to lovers at all, because deep down their actions show how much they care for the other, and I think that's sweet. 😊
The problems are mostly from the external factors, like Aiden's grandfather, Emory's father, and her siblings. But in the end, they did come around eventually. I mean, there's nothing they can do to separate these two. They might as well accept the fact that they will stay married for the foreseeable future.
Overall, This review has turned out to be pretty lengthy again. 😂 But yeah, I did enjoy it. I just wish there was more to the ending, and not just them getting married again. I'm greedy with my MCs' HEA, so an epilogue set a few years later would have been sooo much better.
Book info: - Marriage of convenience - Dislike to love - Rival families - Loss of a loved one (past) - Speech disorder (Stutter) - Open communication!!! 💖 - No cheating, real OM/OW, separation - No V (last: h - 5 mos ago? H - over a year??) - HEA (married)
Notes: - OM/OW. Not really. But their families don't believe in their marriage, so even though they're legally bound, they still throw OW/OM their way. But these two just didn't care about them and have stood their ground that what they have is real. But there's still some jealousy, of course, when they need to interact and be polite with them. Also, Emory's ex did appear a few times, but Aiden protected her all the time. He even beat the guy. 😂 - Celibacy. Thank God that Aiden isn't a hoe. He's a golden boy who followed his family standards for him. That also means dating the women they perceived as good enough for their image. He had an ex-fiancée who cheated on him. He didn't love her but proposed to her because that was what was expected of him. As for Emory, she dated her POS ex for two years, I think, but he was apparently looking for a suitable wife all the while dating her. She said she had been with men and had done ONS. - I love Aiden's siblings and the way they accepted Emory into their fold. They were all welcoming to her even though she's the "enemy." She was nice to them too, so I guess that's why. 🤭 - It made me giggle reading that there are Filipino foods in the story. Idk why they have them though, but that representation still made my heart flutter. 💗
PS. This is just probably me, but the vibes between these two somehow feel like the same with A Deal with the Bossy Devil (I looove that too!)
* 3.25⭐️4🌶️ * “The story focuses on Aiden Prince, the arrogant heir to the Prince family fortune, and Emory Hunter, a woman whose family was negatively affected by the actions of Aiden's family. Driven by a desire for revenge and the chance to reclaim what her family lost, Emory agrees to a marriage of convenience with Aiden to settle a long-standing land dispute between their families.” * Read if you like: enemies to lovers, marriage of convenience between heirs, rival families, whiskey, family traditions, old money, spicy
Discovered the warring families trope does not grab me.
Between the slow moving plot and the author’s devotion to a handful of repetitive pet phrases, I lost focus and gave up at 47%. 😳My eyes heat. 😳My face is warm. 🫱He shoves a hand through his hair. 😳That must be why my blood is heating 😳My eyes are hot. 😚He blows out a breath 😳…discomfort makes my skin feel too hot 😳The skin of my throat is hot. 😳My face warms at the thought of the facts I gave her. 😚He blows out a long, steady breath. 🫱…shove a hand through my hair.
This was such a fun read with just the right amount of the Rivals to Lovers trope and amazing chemistry. I love a marriage of convenience trope too and this hit the right notes. Aiden and Emory were so good together! Their banter was hilarious and I really adored their characters. The email and text threads were such a fun addition. Emory and Aiden each had their own flaws and I absolutely loved how their vulnerabilities were shown. It was so obvious how they felt about each other. I was constantly rooting for them because the angst and tension between them had me bingeing this book. The setting was absolutely dreamy and made me want to live right at Crownhaven. I really loved the high society vibes and the family rivalries.
The main thing I wanted more of was the plot because I felt like it resolved too quickly. Would have been interesting to see more of the rivalry lore between the families. But I liked how the minor conflict at the end was reconciled between them. I did want to see more of Emory’s future achievements, though, because she deserves so much!
This was well written and I’m so excited for Tristan’s story. I hope the other siblings get their stories too because I’m invested. I’d highly recommend this if you’re looking for a bingeable marriage of convenience story full of tension and rivalry.
this book was so wholesome and i loved reading about Emory and Aiden’s evolution of their love story. also this book had some SPICY parts (which i loved🤭)
i really enjoyed this fast paced romance esp with a slow burn 🔥
Funny how we blame ourselves first! This was me not giving a shit about finishing the book and saying "I'm too old for this." But then I gave it a thought: good, angsty romance is supposed to make you feel good no matter how old you are. You're supposed to be giddy kicking your legs up in the air and having butterflies!
This book is so watpaddy, so sexual and so confusing. A fucking romeo and julliet retelling when they dispute over a land. Fucking billionaires disputing over a land? In what economy! Billionaires are literally buying space and here are our MCs fighting over 50 thousand acres with a natural spring in it.
Here we have MCs who hate each other but can't keep their hands off each other. In no real or fictional scenario can someone go from 100% hate to 100% flirting and foreplay in a span of a chapter. Where is the build-up? Where is the connection? Why are we still describing men as greek/roman statues and leaving it at that to convince readers they are absolutely handsome.
Why are we championing women' s rights by saying "I want to be an ob-gyn including studying abortions". And every body would clap!!! If you are an ob-gyn then in facto you know to do an abortion operation that is not something extra you learn when you become feminist. That's included in the job description among many other things!!!
No I'm not too old for frivolous smutty romance, I'm just tired of illogic and sheer stupidity!
-Who is taking care of this dog? When did the dog show up? Why does it feel like this was added in last minute as a way to fluff the plot. Speaking of which - the first major plot hole I noticed was around the dog. He texted her about feeding the dog. She said she already did and keeps the kibble in her underwear drawer. He goes and sends her a picture of him holding a lacy thong and says “this doesn’t look like dog food” but then later on in the next chapter in her POV she says he stole her underwear and then fed her dog… ?? And back to the alleged underwear stealing, he was in her room sitting on her bed whilst he was texting but in the next paragraph he managed to teleport and was sitting on his own bed.
-Him judging her family for owning a casino while his family runs a distillery is RICH.
-When he found out she wanted to ask him to prom because she had a crush on him in high school, he said to himself several times “she could have been mine this whole time” but then a few chapters later when they talked about it he said to her “I would have said no” WTF? That doesn’t make any sense.
-I have realized that I hate “enemies to lovers” when they are just lusting after each other from the beginning. It’s hard to be like “oh yeah they hate each other so much” when he’s staring at her ass.
-They kept going on about the Old Kingdom recipe and if “they just had a bottle they could reverse the recipe” but his brother literally brought out a bottle in one of the early chapters?
-The shower scene could have been so hot, but instead it was awkward. It was at this point that I decided to put myself out of my misery and DNF because I was not enjoying it.
This book gets all the stars!!! I don’t remember the last time I said that. It’s been way too long.
I loved this book so much. Fake marriage/marriage of convenience meets enemies to lovers!! This was chefs kiss!! Seriously it couldn’t have been better. I saw the almost 500 pages (which I usually stay away from) and thought there has to be a boring point in this book for it being so unnecessarily long. Boy was I wrong. I was engaged the entire book!! I stayed up until the wee hours of the morning reading this book and was mad that I had to put it down and go to sleep.
Anyway Aiden and Emory were soooo freaking cute. Obviously it took them a little to get there because they are enemies. Their families have hated each other for years while they secretly pined for one another knowing they would never be able to be together. They were so hot together too. Their chemistry was off the charts. But my favorite moments were when they were vulnerable with each other. It warmed my heart so much because they both have things from the past that they have to deal with. I loved that they helped heal each other. They became each other’s supporters and stood up for one another. Ugh it was so sweet. I loved that Aiden had a stutter and he was actually really shy and a homebody. I could have done without hearing how he likes his sex though. Like I get Emory asked him how he likes it but his answer so was intimate and he hadn’t had sex with Emory at that point and was talking about what he likes to do with women and that was my least favorite part of the book. He’s not by any means a manwhore though. He’s actually been celibate for a year and half and he doesn’t date.
I do wish we had more background on why their families hated each other so much. We are told they have had a feud for years and years but we are never told what actually happened. I also didn’t get why Emory was so hell bent on being liked by the rich. She put so much stock into wanting to be one of them and I still didn’t get her motivation behind that. Yeah her family was talked about but why in high school was she wanting so badly to go to the private school with all the rich kids? It just didn’t make sense to me. We also didn’t find out who spread the news of the fake marriage. It was pointed out that Aiden would find out but that was left wide open. I was hoping it was Amy because I didn’t like her. Anyway none of that ruined the book for me so whatever.
There’s some OW/OM drama in the form of people flirting with each one of the MCs. There’s guys who want Emory and flirt and there’s girls who Aiden’s grandpa is pushing on Aiden to marry instead of Emory. While Emory seems flirty with one of the guys Aiden isn’t at all. Neither is interested in anyone else though but they did get jealous of those other people.
The secondary characters were also chefs kiss!! I’m dying for Siennas book. I loved her soo much!!! I’m excited for Tristan and Katie next, I’m also intrigued by Emory’s brothers.
NO CHEATING (mc was cheated on in the past) OW/OM DRAMA (see above) THIRD ACT BREAK UP (I knew it was coming but it lasted less than a day) NO VIRGINS OR MANWHORES FAKE MARRIAGE HEA (married and talking about kids)
This was my first audiobook (after reading the book two months ago) and WOW, what a spectacularly well-made thing. And how curious that I made my debut as a listener with this audiobook. I loved the dynamics of the voices, the references to pride and prejudice? SPOT ON.
Many thanks to Hunting Lane Publishing LLC and Netgalley for the opportunity to listen to this advance copy.
Oh my God… it’s almost 2:30 a.m. and here I am, writing this review because there’s no way I could wait until tomorrow. I just closed this book and I’m internally screaming over how spectacular it was.
This is Rivals to Lovers, Enemies to Lovers, but with that old-time, historical romance vibe—the teasing, the tension, the spice… oh my God, the spice was exquisite. Aiden, you have officially made it into my top 20 book boyfriends ever, okay? And Em… my dear Em you’re gorgeous, stunning, and yes—I envy you for having Hayden at your feet.
I loved the family dynamics. I thought it would be more dramatic, but it turned out beautifully balanced. The FMC is strong, the brother’s a little mischievous… and now I desperately need another book like this in my life.
Thank you to Sophia Travers and NetGalley for this eARC in exchange for my honest review.
The Heir is an angsty tale of two business rivals who decide to marry in order to split a contested plot of land and fulfill their personal interests. Emory Hunter needs to legitimize her families casino while Aiden Prince, the Heir, wants to recreate a long lost whiskey in his father’s honor. When they find out a marriage is needed in order to resolve the issue, they enter into a marriage of convenience.
I won’t lie, this is my favorite trope and it’s done really well here which is not always the case. I truly felt the animosity the two felt for each other and you feel them thawing out and becoming softer toward one another. The Prince siblings have a really interesting dynamic and I really enjoyed how they all accepted Emory.
I loved how Emory was ambitious as well as intelligent. She donates money to a high school she never went to and coaches a mathlete team. We love smart and strong women! Aiden was also a delight! May we all find a man who buys all of our favorite books and then every book we’ve ever wanted to read. It was nice to see stuttering being treated as a character trait and not a flaw.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book and it was a fast and spicy read. And while this is pretty much also a billionaire romance, the author acknowledges in the end note how that wealth was acquired and mentions donating proceeds to appropriate councils. We love to see it.
This book is the epitome of Enemies to Lovers! Aiden and Emory have so much hate towards the other that it’s palpable. I was so sucked into their story and when I had to put the book down for whatever reason I rushed to be able to pick it back up.
These two are both very cunning and will do what they can for their families so when they discover that in order to achieve what they both want and need is to be together they make it happen! If fake love and marriage will bring their dreams into reality both will push their animosity down to show their families they mean business but close proximity and discovery of forgotten truths have both rethinking the feud and wondering if maybe love can be reality!
The banter in this book is some of the best. It’s not over the top and too much to the point where you wonder if it’s all just hate haha! Plus with duel firt person pov we discover that maybe hate isn’t what it’s always been they were both maybe to stubborn to voice what they really felt.
Such a great story and I hope it’s not the last of this clan because Aiden’s siblings are the best and I’m curious to see what the future holds for both families!
I read other style of books by Sophia Travers and I was super excited for this new era. Especially when the book has such a wonderful cover😍. Thank you so much for this e-copy, Sophia! Super grateful to be part of your team!
Aiden Prince and Emory Hunter were part of rival families but one single paper would make their worlds unite. How so? Well Aiden needed to get married, being the heir of his family, and Emory was just the right person, at the right time and with something else super important, which forced them to get married. This marriage of convenience should have been a secret to be kept from the world and they had to pretend at their best that what they had was genuine. But what happens when the more time they spent together, the more their walls went down and they see how they really were? What happens when feelings start creeping into their hearts?
I just adore a book with a great enemies to lovers story! Emory and Aiden were teasing each other even from the start and it was so delicious to follow their banter. The fact that Emory had to move in with him at Crownhaven estate made everything even more interesting, by seeing how their relationship started to switch the lanes, to enter on a new, unknown path for both of them. One which could offer happines and maybe the love and joy they both craved so much.
Such a wonderful and addicting read, one which made me giggle, which intrigued me and made me so happy. I just loved it, liking so much the way Aiden and Emory evolved as individuals in this story. Go, go read it!!
AHHHHHHHHH what an amazing book! This was the perfect cozy, feel-good book. I don’t know how often I was just smiling like an idiot reading through those pages.
My girl Emory is just an absolute girl boss. Her sass, confidence and no-bullshit attitude were everything. I was so proud of her when she overcame her fear of intimacy after her last relationship left her traumatized.
Now, onto our golden boy Aiden. Is there anything he wouldn’t do for Emory? He built her a secret library containing her entire tbr (more than 1000 books!!!) and recent reads. Get yourself an Aiden or better yet become one. He is the biggest sweetheart ever and has always been very vocal about supporting his siblings. His love-hate relationship with Emory’s dog Dusty was hilarious to say the least. Be ready for interesting nicknames, because he has a bunch of those.
What I enjoyed about the main characters- apart from their comedic nature- was the focus on their mental health struggles. As previously mentioned, Emory has had a hard time letting people get close to her, which resulted in her building these mental walls to block off any potential intimacy. Throughout ‘The Heir’ we can see her slowly but gradually becoming more comfortable with the idea of letting people in and developing romantic as well as platonic relationships. Aiden on the other hand struggles with social anxiety and a stutter whenever he gets uncomfortable. I felt like this portrayal of mental distress was done very well. The author clearly put a lot of thought into creating Aiden’s persona.
All in all, this story is very character driven which I am personally a big fan of. I am looking forward to reading more of this series!
Enemies. Vows. Whiskey. And a love that burns beneath it all.
The Heir by Sophia Travers completely swept me up in its fiery blend of angst, romance, and high-stakes drama. From the very first page, I was hooked on the dynamic between Emory Hunter—strong, ambitious, and unapologetically self-aware—and Aiden Prince, the cold yet fiercely loyal heir to the very dynasty that shattered her world. Their marriage of convenience, meant to settle a land dispute, quickly turned into a battlefield of pride, simmering tension, and buried emotions.
What I adored most was how the author weaved their shared teenage history into the present using dual perspectives. It added such raw depth to their longing that I could practically feel it bleeding through the pages. Their banter crackled, the chemistry was intense, and the emotional vulnerability was so palpable I was begging them to just kiss already!
But beyond the romance, what also resonated with me was how Emory and Aiden discovered their individual paths alongside each other. They didn’t just fall in love—they grew. I loved watching them choose careers they were passionate about, rather than bowing to family expectations. That shift from duty to desire made their journey feel even more rewarding.
The backdrop of legacy whiskey, old money, and brewing family feuds added so much richness, and the supporting cast—especially the Prince siblings—brought levity and warmth when it was needed most. Yes, the book leans into familiar tropes, but never once did it feel recycled or predictable. The writing felt fresh, emotionally layered, and utterly addictive.
If you're anything like me and live for slow-burn chemistry, biting banter, and stories where characters actually grow, The Heir delivers on every front.
Marriage of convenience, hating each other ( but maybe we’re not hating each other after all?), rival families with decades of pent up frustration and old money aesthetic ?? Everything fit the atmosphere of the book so perfectly and i love how sophia managed to blend all of these things into the story. Emory is such a strong woman and i love how ambitious and intelligent she is and takes no bull from any men out there And Aiden…. He was a total delight mhmmhmhm He managed to make me mistake my perception of him and im so glad he did because he is a fantastic book boyfriend, excuse me that library.??? I WAS SOBBING SOBBING SO HARD with that confession.
While I did NOT finish this book I’m still giving 5 stars because I can tell I’m goons be obsessed , I’m putting it down for a little bit because I’m in SUCHH a slump I need to read something else
🌷┇ ೀ୭ 𝐩𝐫𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝
I got the prettiest stickers, bookmark, AND character art for this book and oh my goshhhh. It makes me so excited to start this
Thank you LoveNotes PR for the ARC and Sophia for the beautiful bookish mail!!!
From the first page, The Heir by Sophia Travers has you completely hooked. Two rivals who have to pretend they’re in love? Wow, what a thrill! It was everything I could have hoped for and more! The author manages to reach the reader, and that's exactly what I want from a good book. I don’t want it to feel flat.
Aiden is a complex male character. To those around him, he seems perfect. Cold, but perfect. But as the story unfolds, readers, along with Emory, get to know him better and discover his vulnerable side. And Emory is so much more. She is intelligent, compassionate, and deeply loyal to her family. And yet, just because she is a woman, she constantly has to prove herself. She doubts herself, especially when it comes to fitting into Aiden’s world. Honestly, my heart ached for her.
The tension?! The way the author captures the tension between the characters is incredible! You can feel it burning between them! I loved the scenes where they longed for each other, but also those where jealousy started to creep in. In addition to the rivalry that binds Aiden and Emory, we are left with the impression that something happened in the past that took the hatred to another level. I was so curious to find out what it was.
I kind of wish there had been more attention on the plotline with Aiden’s grandfather, but I was glad the relationship between the main characters was so well developed. That part really stood out. The Heir turned out to be a surprisingly pleasant read.
Releases July 15th! Thank you so much @sophiatraversauthor for sending me this ARC! ❤️
It took me a little while to get into this one, but once I did, I was hooked especially on the banter and Aiden. This is a classic rivals-to-lovers setup with a twist: two families are fighting over a piece of land, and the only way to split it is through a marriage between the two. Enter Emory and Aiden, who agree to a fake marriage even though they "hate" each other.
As the story unfolds, you realize they’re both just misunderstood and craving love, flaws and all. The chemistry between them is electric, and the spicy scenes are perfection, especially with the added tension of their pretend hatred. The banter during those moments had me laughing out loud.
I definitely recommend picking this one up, and I’m excited to see where the rest of the series goes!
This book started off a little slow for me, but made a turn about 48% in. This book has forced marriage, enemies to lovers, banter, spice, and a slow burn. You will meet Aiden who buys Emory books, reads to her, and took care of her why she was sick. He will instantly be your new book boyfriend.
4.5 ⭐️. Strong, smart characters, amazing character growth, so many small moments that result in a fully believable connection, and spicing spice. This book has it all and it is done SO well! Loved it and loved these characters.
This story is set in modern day but has some kind of royalty feeling class system (Crownhaven) imbedded it and it really helped the story. There is sailing, horses, polo, secret gardens, etc.
🤴The Heir is Aiden Prince. He is the wealthy heir to his family’s fortune and whiskey industry. His life is predetermined and he has done all that is asked of him. He is mourning the death of his father and has lost his spark and love of life. His is multi-layered, kind, vulnerable yet strong, and so protective of Emory. A truly good man. 🙋♀️Emory Hunter is from a family outside the wealthy elite. Her family runs casinos and is perceived to be sort of “less than” and nefarious compared to the Prince family and their cohorts. She, meanwhile, is emotionally resilient, insanely smart, and working to improve her family’s status. She has been betrayed by a prior boyfriend, is very slow to trust, and is wary of Aiden. 📛. Love his nicknames for her “Evil Queen”, then “sweetheart”, “gorgeous”, and “pretty girl”. 🥃. Enemies to fake married to trusted friends and lovers. These two each have reasons for wanting to marry the other that will benefit themselves and/or their families. They are direct and honest with each other about these reasons. Aiden has been told to marry but he has no interest in other women. He’s always been intrigued by Emory; they’ve competed throughout their lives, and he believes that he would never fall in love with her. They agree to marry for one year to get land that has been in dispute between the families 100 yrs. Their families were once involved in the whiskey business as partners. 💬. Their banter is top notch. They love to spar on every way and the way that they each get such a kick out of each is everything. 😕. Third act problem: At about 90% there is a misunderstanding at a party that was unnecessary. Emory believes that Aiden signed divorce papers and she runs away. He didn’t sign them; at least not in the way she thinks he did. It is very short lived and is resolved quickly, but it still annoyed me. 🗣️. Misunderstanding. So the whole story is really based on these two fundamentally making assumptions about each other that are false. But in this case, the assumptions are warranted and understandable and the unraveling of those assumptions is what makes this story so lovely. They genuinely grow to know and trust each other bit by bit. 🫣. No OM/OW. Neither is interested in anyone else. He hasn’t been with anyone in a year and she hasn’t been w anyone for 5 months. There is one woman, Amy, who keeps sort of popping up, but Aiden has no interest. Emory is jealous of her bc she worries that she’ll never fit into his life in the way that Amy (or someone like her) could. 🏡. Close proximity- she lives in his house, in the room across the hall. They have a connecting bathroom. 🌶️Spice - the spice is slow burn but the tension is 😘. And once they get together, they are fire. 👥. Dual 1st person POV/HEA. 2nd, real marriage in epilogue.
So the tension in the story comes from them unraveling their misconceptions but also them trying to figure out how they could be happily married with each other given their families feuding history. They each reveal pieces of themselves slowly and earn each other’s trust. In the end, they each choose each other over their respective families.
📕 🥰. This is a truly epic love story, with wonderful angst, so many heartfelt small moments of trust they give each other, and incredible chemistry. I hope you love it as much as I did. 🩵
Favorite bits: ‼️ - when he learned that she had a crush on him in high school. He’s so giddy about it. lol. He had a crush on her too. - they way they keep pretending they hate each other but it’s really their love language - the way that she supports him and loves him - knowing that he’s been in an emotionally dark place - especially as he shares his stutter with her. Gah! - how he only laughs and smiles for her - the way that he comes to her defense and beats the crap out of her exboyfriend. - the way that he finds small ways to show her he cares - all the tea he buys her and their little morning chats where they share small things about each other. When she was sick and he cared for her and slept with her bc he was worried. - his siblings and body guard and how much they like her and help her feel welcome - the way the color red is reserved for him and his wife and the way she naturally wears red underwear. And it drives him crazy 😂 - the way that she stuck up for him at the end with his grandpa and told him that Aiden was so much more than an heir - the love letter she wrote for him at the end, even when she thought he divorced her. ❤️ - all the sexy times on the boat

I ate this up and it was absolutely delicious! The Heir is a heartwarming rivals to lovers story with snappy banter and sizzling spicy times. The relationship between Aiden and Emory is a perfect mix of hate, reluctant respect, attraction and angst. I fear the only thing that ever stood in their way were two giant roadblocks of societal expectations and 100 years of family rivalry. The back and forth between the characters had me smiling for so much of this book. I love that Aiden was the honorable golden retriever of the pair. It kept him from ever dipping into ahole territory which is very much appreciated.
I really liked the side characters and hope the siblings all get their own stories!
