There are eight books in this series. I just happen to only have one of them so I read it. It’s brief so it was a short read.
What I can’t seem to do is figure out the genre or target audience for this book.
Is it Sci-fi or fantasy? Well, not exactly, but there are three characters with sci-fi type names and other-worldly abilities.
Is it romance? Not really, but there are two characters who clearly have feelings for each other.
Is it biblical? Well, yes. It partially focuses on Gideon, a warrior in Judges, and his fleece which might have magical properties.
Is it Christian fiction? Yes. I can definitely cast this as Christian fiction, just really, really different.
One character (Achava) has been tasked by God to be the guardian of His land, Israel. She has abilities to teleport…called "soul merging" in this book. Her sister (Anthea), on the other hand is just this side of evil, and her abilities are used for her own purposes rather than for God’s. Sam is just a normal guy, an archaeologist who helps Achava on her missions.
In this mission Sam is to find the fleece of Gideon, but there are two other people who want it, and they have abilities to thwart both Sam and Achava.
I loved some of the author's word pictures, like when Gideon's men, on their way to battle, opened (broke) their jars of clay revealing the torches inside to light the way to victory. Seemingly symbolic of our own body being like clay jars to be broken so that the light of Jesus can shine through.
Because I didn’t read the first two I was a tad lost. But after a few chapters the reader can catch on. These stories are like a long serial. This book was a cliff hanger which leads into then next having to do with Christ's crown of thorns.
Creative book I rather enjoyed. I almost wish I had more in this series,
