I was SO surprised I did a happy dance when A.M. Madden sent me her new novella The Devil's Lair.
Of course I stated reading it ASAP.
I had a very hard time putting this book down, it surprised me on so many level's. The Devil's Lair is on their first world-wide tour. Things have changed a LOT for all the members of the Devil's Lair since the last book. They all seem to have matured quite a bit but there was still some joking around between the characters that added some humor to the story. The scenes with the band on stage were PHENOMENAL!. But what A.M. Madden did so well with this book was grab my emotions, they were all over the place and made me cry many of times as I read.
I LOVED reading about Jack and Leila. How they coped with having their twins with them on tour. Madden and Siarra are a bit older now and they completely stole my heart. Jack and Leila were EXCELLENT PARENTS, just another thing I LOVED about this book.
We got a closer look into Hunter and Mandy's romance and OH MY, Hunter has a VERY KINKY FETISH! If you want to know what it is, your going to have to read the book.
There was plenty of heat and the love scenes were SCORCHING!. I swear they were so HOT that my hot flashes did not compare to the heat I felt coursing threw me while reading them.
The ending was AMAZING! Everything is all worked out and the group had so many things to be thankful for.
If your a FAN of this series, I urge you not to miss out on this novella.

To be honest, I LOVE all of the books in the Back-Up series, but this one is very special to me. Jack and Leila's story hooked me from book 1 and I couldn't get enough of them. Trey's story in Backstage was awesome and I loved learning more about what made him Trey.
The Devil's Lair brings them all back together again and pulled me even more into this series. I loved every word of it. I wiped tears from my eyes more than once, and for more than one reason. AM's writing has always been great in my eyes, but the storyline, the feelings, and the intensity of this book are all top-notch!!! I loved every word and every feeling - I was right there with Jack, Leila, Hunter, Mandi, and more, feeling what they felt every step of the way!
I'm sad to see the ending of this series and I hope AM surprises us with "just one more book" in the near future!

I was thinking that this novella was going to be a story of Devil's Lair romping through their European tour. I was so not prepared for the book I read. While the backdrop of the story is the band's overseas tour, the storyline is so much more personal. Most of the plot centers around Jack and Leila and Hunter and his wife, Mandi. A couple of new characters are introduced to the Lair and are welcomed with open arms. There are glimpses of Trey and Scott and as usual there are some very interesting exchanges among the band members. The band is so much more than a group of friends that play music, they are a family.
On one hand, you have the profound love story between Jack and Leila. The love they share for each other, and their family, is limitless. In this book the reader finds out just how giving the couple can be. The love they exhibit toward those around them is a beautiful example of what family and friendship should be. The sexual tension between Jack and Leila is as sizzling as always, but the intimate scenes of the couple and their honest emotional exchanges blew me away. Ms. Madden has a gift for writing her characters with honest heartfelt emotions. The reader can't help but to fall in love with them.
On the other hand, the reader gets an up close and personal view of Hunter Amatto and his wife, Mandi. While Jack may be the leader of Devil's Lair, Hunter is the oil that keeps things running. Throughout the story the reader learns of his quirks and his fears, but most of all, his deep love for his wife. Their relationship is sweet, sexy and often funny. I like Hunter more now after seeing him a more vulnerable light.
Be prepared to smile, laugh and sometimes cry at this story. I sincerely hope that Ms. Madden will not let her readers go cold turkey and that she will continue to give the readers other stories from the Lair family. Set for a holiday release this story fits the season perfectly. Grab a comfy chair, a glass of wine and maybe a tissue and enjoy the tour

Just when I thought it was over for Devil’s Lair and the gang, Ms. Madden graciously gives us more…and I loved it! Jack and Leila couldn’t be more perfectly, happily married. This couple just makes me swoon with how in love they are. Devil’s Lair is on their world wide tour and their wives and kids are with them, right where they belong. Reading about Jack and Leila with the twins, Madden and Siarra, completely melts my heart.
In this novella, Ms. Madden gives us an up close and personal look at Hunter and Mandi. To say that Hunter is a hot mess is an understatement. Even having said that, we get to see a completely different side of these two. While they almost seem to be a mismatch, they really are each other’s yin and yang. You can’t help but laugh at Hunter, but there are moments in this book that will have you in tears once you get inside his head and hear his thoughts.
As I’ve come to expect from her, Ms. Madden gives us an “oh no, that can’t be happening” side story that will literally bring you to your knees. After I got over my initial cry fest, I already had it planted in my head how I wanted this scenario to play out. Thankfully, Ms. Madden knows her readers better than I do. Without giving anything away, I’ll just say my heart was put back together and I was totally satisfied albeit happy with the end result.
I’m really having a hard time thinking my time with Devil’s Lair might be coming to an end. I’d just like to put a little bug in Ms. Madden’s ear that I’m ready to read about the Cliffhangers with a little Devil’s Lair thrown in. She's a rockstar to me!

This is the continuation of the BACK-UP SERIES, when the series started Leila was with the band Cliffhangers, The Devil's Lair band was just getting noticed, then she joined there band. Jack the lead singer and Leila had chemistry and his man-whore days were over, 1st to grown-up and get married.They toured the states where the single guys boozed and did the babes until they to found their soul-mates. FAST-FORWARD to this book: ALL MARRIED and starting on their 1st world-wide tour with wives and Jack and Leila's twins, no more boozing and babes and wild ways!!
They are still wild at heart rockers but now with their spouses only!!! Expect the unexpected while on a world tour, which means GROW-UP and embrace the unknown and any changes as they happen. There are lots of emotional moments throughout this book,I laughed and cried when i didn't see it coming. There are lots surprises that will not disappoint!!The Devil's Lair Band may tease each other, fight and feud but in the end they are FAMILY and support each other no matter what happens!!!Guess who's having BABIES, NO SPOILERS!!!! Maybe one or more not telling but teasing!!! So where do I start...You should have by now read the other books in the Back-Up Series. This shows a side to the members I didn’t expect to see. You have Jack still always worries about Leila but you realize how much he can pick up on other band members moods. The way he cares for his kids just touches your heart. Then there is Hunter....hello talk about shocker. Didn’t expect this side of him. What is it your wondering well I wouldn’t want to ruin that for you but when you read it you will understand. There is also the side of him that worries about pleasing everyone and he’s insecure about himself. I didn’t expect that since always jokes around but so nice to see. Then Trey what is not to love about Trey...he jokes but the way he opened up with a child who was brought to visit the band. It was like a connection that was nice to see that there is a sweet side to him (heck we knew that he just hides it) You get a little more about other members of the previous books. I’m going to say there is a moment in this book where there was a big event that happened. It’s what brings out all the band members different point of views...I won’t say what happens as don’t want to ruin it. I smiled, cried & laughed in this book. A.M. never fails with her writing.

This book had me on an emotional roller coaster. What a fantastic way to weave all the characters growth into one little novella. Although, it didn't have the novella feel to it at all. You get so much out of this book. A story that will have you hoping Hunter makes it out with all his guys bits and have you biting your nails while diving deeper into his and Mandi's relationship. That was... Whoa!! I love Hunt! Watching Trey let someone else in and not just that but want and seek out that relationship. So. Damn. Awesome! And Jack and Leila. Sigh... I can't even tell you how I felt reading this part of their life. It will gut you and make your heart swell all at the same time. There are a couple new characters in this book that will have you questioning if you're ready and what would you do? Like REALLY, what would you do! Gut wrenching decisions. And heartbreaking moments for those endings that have you grabbing at your chest where your heart is. Both in pain and happiness and joy! I am now on high alert waiting for this authors next release!!

The Back-up series is one of my all time favorite series and I was extremely happy when A.M. Madden announced that she is writing a novella bout Devil's Lair and their European Tour :) Thankfully, I got the chance to beta read the story so I had in my hands a tad earlier than the release day ;)
I definitely wasn't disappointed. It was great to meet all the characters again and getting to see how married life with kids treats Jack and Leila. At the same time, the story is heartbreaking as another challenge faces Devil's Lair and their families. The first part of the book completely shredded my heart to pieces. The story told, was so excruciating that I was crying like a baby on more than one occasion. I don't think I can find the right words to express how touching it was.
The story is mainly told in Jack's POV but we also get Hunter's this time. He was definitely an interesting character. I loved that I got to see him in a different light: a little bit more insecure, a little bit more serious. He gets few unexpected surprises and it was interesting to read how he deals with them and finds the confidence he needs to deal and accept the changes in his life :)
The brief glimpses in Leila's POV made the story even better and it also showed how compassionate she is. Made her even more lovable as a character. The situation with which DL had to deal with was really devastating and it showed the band in a completely different light. I have to admit that I even started to like Jen and I was never a fan of hers ;)
As a whole I would say that the story is amazing, as everything else written by A.M. Madden :) I definitely loved this glimpse in DL's lives after they all got their HEA and I really hope that there will be another short story about them at some point :)

Ahhhhh!!! Quite possibly the best ending to a series I have ever read! But, is it over? Can it be over? Please - tell me it's not over!!!
I'm not going to lie - I "heavily liked" Books 1-3, was blown away by Book 4 and now this ending novella was just the icing on the hot motherfucking rocker cake! It was soooooo good, maybe even too good if that makes any sense! What a fabulous wrap up of our favorite band members and significant others. There was so much love pouring out of this book that I felt my heart burst a few times while reading it. I couldn't put it down and read it in less than 2 hours! A little over the top? Maybe, but read it and you will find out for yourself.
We got more of our main H and h, Jack and Leila, lots more Hunter and Mandi (and his crazy kinky fetishes that I literally had no clue about), some hilarious, but sweet Trey and Tara and the most heart wrenching and heartwarming addition that had me crying like a baby. How Ms. Madden achieved such a feat in a novella, of all things, is beyond me. However, she did it and managed to do it really really well!
I won't spoil anything about this story because you truly need to read the other four books first to have a prayer of knowing what is going on, but this whole series comes very highly recommended. I know I will be reading all of their stories again, probably sooner rather than later. Well done, Ms. Madden - a truly amazing series and characters that will stay with me for quite some time!

I received this book as a Beta in return for an honest review. Reading this novella brought me back to a place that felt warm and cozy and felt like I was home. I really miss Jack and Leila and think I need to reread the series. The story has some nice surprises which are not predictable and even though I don't cry in books very often this one brought tears to my eyes twice as the story was so well written and the emotions it brought up were really intense. I also loved getting a bit more of Hunter and Mandi and will look forward to a book about their journey. Overall a short but really great story.

I love, love this series. Every character is well written and once I started to read I could not but my kindle down. I love seeing what everyone is up too and what they are doing. Amazing series, amazing writing. If you have not read this series you are missing out

Facing reality
It is killer when reading such an emotional story. Ms Madden has addressed two major life issues in this book. While it is an obvious way to catch up with the other band members, this is mainly a story of Jack and Leila. The pair comes face to face with breast cancer and assisted suicide. Both are very emotional subjects and this story deals with those left behind.
Very well told. Left me emotionally drained but pleased on the storytelling front.

A.m., you have outdone yourself once again with this novella. I finished it last night and I’m still thinking how the heck does she write that?! How does A.m. write in a way that captures my heart, tears me down, and puts me back together? With fewer pages than your normal books, you went into depth… you dug deep into their lives, their hearts and mine. With the characters’ lives, their journey, their bonds, and their hearts. You took them, broke them apart and made them whole. Each of them is a missing puzzle to the other. If it wasn’t for each of these characters, this wouldn’t be the book it is. If it wasn’t for the journey they took without any roadmap in front of them, they wouldn’t be Devil’s Lair. They wouldn’t exist.
I’m not going to lie. You made me cry a river a time or two. Maybe even more. I cried because life sometimes deals us the unknown that can break us and tear us apart. I cried because the jokes, comments, and banter between these characters was so funny, you can’t help but cry until you have tears running down your face. I cried because there was so much love, compassion, trust, and heart felt moments that made my heart melt.
This here, this story, this is what family is about. An unbreakable bond that only gets stronger with what life throws at you. This here, this is a story that squeezed my heart and made me overflow with emotions. There is nothing written in the right way to do things. I’m not going to lie. You made me cry a river a time or two. Maybe even more. I cried because life sometimes deals us the unknown that can break us and tear us apart. I cried because the jokes, comments, and banter between these characters was so funny, you can’t help but cry until you have tears running down your face. I cried because there was so much love, compassion, trust, and heart felt moments that made my heart melt.
This here, this story, this is what family is about. An unbreakable bond that only gets stronger with what life throws at you. This here, this is a story that squeezed my heart and made me overflow with emotions. There is nothing written in the right way to do things. If you've followed Devil's Lair and the band this far you already know and love the characters. Most of us have a favorite as well. Mine has been Trey, especially after reading Backstage. Well after reading DL that shifted. I found a soft spot in my heart for Jack. Those who know me know that I am not the lovey-dovey type but I do attest to having a severe soft spot to a man who loves his children unconditionally. To me that is a huge turn-on. In Devil's Lair you really get to see Jack and Leila's love for their children, their family and their friends, both old and new. Jack surprised me with how deep his love is for family and because of this my feelings for him will forever be altered. There were several Kleenex moments for me.
This was only one aspect of the book though. For you Hunter Amatto fans you will not be disappointed. Hunt plays a large part in this novella. His journey on tour with Mandi will give you a glimpse into his life that left me a little shocked while still wanting to give him a high five. Hunter is a fun loving, Fruit Loop loving guy with a penchant for all things Mandi. I can guarantee the twists and turns his character takes will leave you giggling. His love for Mandi is what pulls it all together in the end.
This may be a novella but you honestly could not pack more emotion into one book. I laughed, cried and felt the angst of Hunter's predicament all in a few short hours. Devil's Lair are so much more than record selling, chart topping, sold out concert performers. They are a family. A family I have grown to love and can not imagine in my life. So please AM Madden take pity on this poor reader and give me more glimpses into their future. I can only go so long with out my DL fix.

I've watched the Devil's Lair Band where it all began...From The Back-up Series with Jack and Leila's love story. And also met the rest of the characters. One of the characters that really stood out for me, was Trey Taylor in Backstage, his mysterious ways just rendered me speechless and love him in his own bad boy way. Now, the story may come to an end, depending on what the author decides. I am hoping A.M. doesn't stop with this story about the band. I just can't get enough of the band and if they were to end here, I will be truly be sad and they will be missed, SO MUCH.
The Devil's Lair is the story about all the characters, what happened to them after the chaotic Rockstar lives they have lived in the past few years. You have to read The Back-up and Backstage to be able to read the Devil's Lair. You won't want to miss this series. All packed with hot and steamy romance. Rockstars who are too hot and will make your panties drop and want to have their babies. (winks)

What a perfect addition to The Back-Up Series. Although I hate to see it end, if it has to, this was also the perfect ending. It has been an amazing ride with Jack, Leila, Hunter, Scott and Trey. It has also been an emotional ride, watching them all change, love, laugh, and bond, and find their soul mates without loosing themselves.
This is a very emotional novella, guaranteed to pull on your heartstrings. I ugly cried more than once, and for more than one reason, but when you read it you will understand why. Along with being emotional, the guys will still having you laughing out loud, especially Hunter with his Froot Loops, gotta love that guy!! Hunter has a big part in this novella, and I could not help but love Mandi, I also couldn't help but wonder how she would ever survive Hunt. I was also happy to see that Trey still has his sense of humor, although Tara will have her hands full with him. Scott and Patti, have always been the quite couple in this group, and we get a glimpse of them too. I don't think that A.M. Madden, left anyone out of this novella, and for that I want to say thank-you!! It always blows my mind when an author can make me feel as though I know the characters in a book personally.

I don't know if there is any other series with a novella that is this heart warming and inspiring.
The Back Up Series is one of the most sexiest, hilarious, and heart warming series out there. They are ROCKERS with heart. They are ROCKERS with so much more to offer and constantly give to their fans, family, friends, and each other! A-EFFIN-MAZING!
In this book we get more of HUNTER "FROOT-LOOPS" AMATTO. *swoon* He is everything I thought him to be and more. The way he thinks makes me laugh out loud. I imagine he is very private and is kinky, but didn't know just how much until this book. He is hilarious with his back and forth banter with Trey and even more so with himself.
Also in this novella is more from Jack & Leila. *smiles* I LOVE THEM! There is no limit or boundary for their generosity and most definitely their hearts. They make my heart sing with love and hope. They are still one half of a whole with the way they talk to each other and read each others emotions. The best thing about them is that they show their vulnerabilities to each other. This allows them to be strong when one is weak. I adore them.
These characters gave me the biggest smile with tears running down my face by the time I got to the end.

If you thought Ms. Madden was done with the boys and girl from the Devil's Lair, you were wrong. Oh so wrong.
This new novella give us one last glace at the lives of our favorite band members, their significant others and their babies. And if you think everything was going to be roses and happiness because, well, this is a recap, think again and have those Kleenex handy because you are definitely going to need them.
What I loved most about these band members is the camaraderie they always had, the brotherhood. And this new novella show us that the addition of their wives and girlfriends have only served to increase the love, respect and protectiveness between them.
There is a twist in the story and WOW, I was not expecting this or all. This storyline was incredibly touching, bringing out feelings of compassion, sorrow, acceptance and so much love. In true Madden style it was beautifully done and pulled at the reader's heartstrings, touching on a subject that can be considered by some "controversial."
The story is mainly told through two POV's but you get a glance of other ones here and there. This is a MUST read novella for all those Devil's fans.

Well....whew....wow! I have always been a fan of this lady's amazing stories. I do have to say the growth of all the stories have grown more and more. This story is just amazing. Seeing Devil's Lair this way was perfection! I thought the feelings and heart that were displayed in Backstage could not possibly be topped! Oh how wrong I was.
A.M. truly gives you all the laughter, the tears, the goodbumps and just feels good moments. This story made me never want any of these stories to end.
I would love to see these continue on and on.

This novella is the PERFECT addition to the crazy rock band that we all fell in love with!! We get a glimpse into the married with children life of Jack and Leila, but we also get the inside story of Hunter and Mandy's happy marriage as well!! I absolutely love this gang.
This is one of those books where it many be shorter, it is a novella after all, but when you sit down to read it you fall instantly in love with this group of friends all over again. To me, it didn't feel like a novella at all! There are moments of tears and moments of laughter. Moments when you wonder how in the world could they possibly have to make the decisions to the situations that they come across yet again.
I am so glad that A.M. Madden decided to continue their story with this novella. Jack, Leila, Hunter, Trey and Scott.. these guys will steal your heart all over again!!!

I was lucky enough to be a beta reader for this novella, and it was awesome!
Am Madden does it again...She's brings life to Devil's Lair. This time they are on a European tour, and keep in mind that it IS a novella..so it's short and sweet. But oh, not so sweet that you aren't entertained.
This one has some drama within DL...and a little from without. It was a fabulous story, made me laugh, and most definitely made my cry.
And I love Hunter, so I was totally happy that this had a bit of Hunts story (even if it was with Mandi instead of Rachel)
And the surprise for Jack and Leila..wow, that's about all I can really say there. I loved the story, and the ending. so sweet!

OMG A.M. Madden really got me with this one.. I do love all the books in the Back-up series and this one really touched my heart. This book was a big treat ! It is a novella and well written. One minute I was crying & the next I was so happy.. I don't want to give away too much. But this novella takes place during Devils Lair European tour. You get a chance to see a little inside of Devils Lair world now.. As big time rock stars. Thank you A.M. Madden for giving us more & more of Devils Lair. I think I have falling more in love with these Character... Loved Jack & Leila from the beginning but I love the whole band even more...

Here's another great read in this series! I thought this one would just be a catch up to all the band members and what they have been up to but this one has a side plot that is heart breaking. As fulfilling as Jack and Lei's twins are, their hearts are big enough to open up to another child who needs a family. My eyes were wet at times.
I'm hoping that every so often Ms. Madden will take pity on all her Devil's Lair lovers and throw a novella our way so we can keep reading about our favorite rockers!

This short little novella is a nice glimpse into Devil's Lair. I loved reconnecting with the old characters and getting a closer look into Hunter's mind.
A nice wrap to this series. It was nice to get back into the old feel of the series after how disappointed I was with Backstage, Trey's book. This was a nice wrap up to the whole series.

The Devil’s Lair is a follow up novella. Now that the boys of Devil’s Lair are all happily in relationships, A.M. Madden brings us back to the story to see the couple live life, explore life on the road as it is now, and just see more to the ending of their story. These men have gone from debauchery loving rockstars to devoted, loving husband rockstars. Leila has not only entered Jack’s life but the entire band and their significant others have embraced her as family. I am always happy to get a little more of the characters I love, and by far the Devil’s Lair characters are included in some of the best.
"What happened to the members of Devil’s Lair was an onslaught of mind-blowing events that none of us could have ever predicted. Fuck, Trey Taylor is married. If that isn’t mind-blowing I don’t know what the fuck is. Such is life, right? To always expect the unexpected, embrace change, and grow as a person? I can honestly saw grow is what we all did. We grew up. Sure, we still fuck around like a bunch of teenagers when the environment calls for it."
Jack has turned into a man every woman can only dream about. He’s supportive, loving, and affectionate with Leila and he’s a devoted loving father who will do anything for his kids. Life on the road has sure changed from groupies waiting back stage to life on the road with a rockstar wife and twin babies. We see how the girls all bond and how this family works and meshes together. We see Trey as a hero through a little boy’s eyes, which provokes thoughts of his own family. There is drama and some heartbreak (Just not the standard boy and girl heartbreak. These couples are a force to be reckoned with after all.).
The Devil’s Lair is told from duel POV’s, through Jack and Hunter. I loved Hunter throughout the series but during this novella I just didn’t connect with his POV. I’m not sure if it’s because this was the first time we saw his POV or because I just love Trey Taylor so much and missed him but his thoughts in the story felt a little out of place to me. It’s most likely because I was hungry and selfish for more Trey. He stole my heart in a way I didn’t see coming in Backstage.
The Devil’s Lair is short, sweet, emotional, and easy on your wallet. If you have enjoyed the Back-Up Series thus far you HAVE to continue on with the story. If you haven’t read the series at all… well than you need to get on it. Jack Lair and Trey Taylor will make your hearts and panties melt like you wouldn’t believe. Oh my days, what have I just read? My expectations were to catch up with my favourite Devil Lair band mates and see how they were all settling into married life. Fun, frolics and a little more of the sexy Jack, Hunter and Trey yet I got so much more. Yes we explore the ongoing day to day shenanigans of our couples including some steamy scenes but there is also a self contained fresh story interwoven into this cute catch up.
Without ruining the plot an unexpected addition to the tour, that sees them globe trotting across Europe and Asia, makes Devil's Lair rethink their priorities. After the trauma that shook them to their foundations in previous books Leila and Jack have centred themselves around their twins and their dedication to the band. Going from strength to strength Leila is the light and positivity that keeps Jack grounded. Opening their eyes to how lucky and fortunate they are can they deal with the dilemma they face?
With alternating POV's we get to see how Hunter reacts and feels when things take a twist. We explore his relationship a little more and as usual his mouth gets him in deep trouble. Trey is still reeling from his past but is trying to overcome his demons and we see another side to him. Jack is the super star for me in this story, he embraces everything he has learnt from previous mistakes and he shoes how far he's come. He is mature and wise as he helps guide those he loves through a dark time and helps them find their smiles once again.
This was a surprising, tear jerking read. I wasn't expecting it but I was totally bowled over by the range of emotions this wonderful short story put me through!

A.M. Madden is giving us a much more intimate look into the lives of the members of Devil's Lair. We are shown the human aspect of their character with more detail and made to fall in love even more with each and every one.
Traveling the world on their international tour, we get to experience Jack and Leila in all their domestic glory. We see as their love and family grow and they prove to us that what we experienced with them in the previous books is stronger and more solid than ever.
Hunter Amatto and his wife Mandi also have a bigger role in this novella. His funny, Fruit Loops loving self and his more reserved wife give us a glimpse into the somewhat kinky relationship they share. Their love is strong and the way they fight together to overcome a certain situation, just proves that.
We are introduced to Paula, a friend of Jen's, and her son Shane. Their arrival and interaction with the band completely changes everyone's life forever.
The family-oriented atmosphere the band is in, is al the forefront of this story. You will experience moments with them that will completely devastate you, leaving you a crying mess, while others will have you laughing so hard.

Wow... This is rockstar performance written here and with every high note, A.M. Madden nailed it!
In this brilliantly written novella Madden brought back all our sexy bad boys, and girl from the Back-Up Series. I have always loved the back and forth teasing, "brotherly" love that Trey shows towards Leila. And yes, we get more of it here. Its always nice to get more of that over the top alpha male from our sexy as sin Jack Lair. We see a side of Hunter that may make you want to strangle him. Mandi may just do the strangling of Hunter for us though. Wow...Jack and Leila have grown so much not, only in their lives but also the music.
We are also introduced to a few new characters in theis novella. Characters that bring out the best and the worst in our beloved rock family.
