Experimented and tested on by the Nazis, Captain Drake Devilin and his troop of beasts are made into something unholy. Unwilling to serve as a guinea pig for the government any longer, Drake has only one thing on his mind … his beautiful wife, but instead finds himself involved in a war of the supernatural kind. The pressure mounts when Drake uncovers that a stranger from Sienna’s past is responsible for the rash of supernatural crimes plaguing an underwater city.
After beating an evil sorcerer at his own game, Sienna Devilin awaits her husband’s return from Germany. Once Drake Devilin arrives, Sienna can tell something is different about the captain. Moody and temperamental, Sienna doesn’t know what to think when he turns down a fight to help with a fresh crop of engineered monsters.
With World War II in full swing, Drake is unable to talk his wife out of their new obligation. Sienna is more determined than ever to fight off demons from her past and monsters in their not too distant future.
Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarina I Dig Good Books.
My first and final thought for this book is something was missing. Inforamtion, back story, just something.
A twist on the paranormal theme, these men are genetically altered into monsters (the book uses that word, it calls them monsters) into werewolves and vampires. Witches play a huge part too, Devilin's wife, Sienna is a witch, a powerful one, one who Devilin can absorb her power, and not drain her.
A battle against an evil, that isnt clear WHO the evil is til very late on.
I'm struggling a little with this review, and its all about that missing information. I've looked on Goodreads, and this seems to be book 3 of Devilin and Sienna. Having NOT read those, I can see why I feel I'm missing that information, because what I felt was missing, the time in Dresden for Devilin and the time that Sienna was held captive, is in those books. SO I would HIGHLY recommend that you read Sweet As SIn and Devil's Play before embarking on this one.
All in all, missing information aside, I did enjoy it, it was different, set in a different time (WWII) with different ideals and prejudices. And a new author to me. I think, at some point, I will go back and read the fort two books, then come back and reread this one, it should be a 5 star read if I had read those first.
**note to self, check whether book is part of a series before you agree to read it!**
4 stars.
**same worded review appears on Goodreads, Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk**
4.5 Stars Note to self: Always check to see if there are more books containing sexy shifter men.
You are pulled into the fast paced world of Drake and Sienna, and if you haven’t read the first two books you really need to. There were a few things that had me scratching my head as to huh, but it did not stop my enjoyment of this book.
Though there is a human and shifter war going on, it doesn’t take away from the fact that men, be they human or not, do stupid things. If Drake would have only gone and talked things over with his wife (the only person it seemed to give him peace) he would have been a happy man.
Women are sneaky as well he should have realized that too. The chemistry in the book between the main characters and the supporting characters (not with each other, but their loved ones) is explosive. Every character worked well with each other.
This was a very enjoyable read and I could not put it down. Now I am off to read the first two books, Sweet as Sin and Devils Play. Please Do Not Disturb.
