That's it. I quit.

I just don't even know how to write this review.

Combine every romance and suspense cliche in the books all into one medium length novel, and you've got Under the Lawman's Protection by Laura Scott.

The writing style totally threw me off from page one. Cheesy, states the obvious . . . a few random POV jumps in there. I don't know if all of Scott's books are like this, but I'm almost afraid to find out.

The characters felt shallow and "meh" and I never found myself rooting for them, wanting justice to be served on their behalf, etc. Nothing. I did not feel attached to them at all.

Did I mention the cliches? Everything felt so cliche, cheesy, overdone, etc. And the romance. Y'all. "She got tingles up her arm when he touched her fingertips". Oh. Pu.Leeze. Help me!

And the faith themes. Please, if that's as good as it gets for "inspirational" fiction, heaven help us! Unfortunately this book wouldn't inspire the most desperate soul. This was honestly the thing that was saddest about this book for me. No faith theme at all would be better than a weak, lukewarm one.

So there you go. Not recommended.

Please excuse the somewhat rant-like review. This is just my opinion, and I don't mean to hate on the author, or lovers of this book. :)

Under The Lawman's Protection was SO good! I loved how you couldn't really trust anyone, as you never knew who was a "bad guy" until the end. The romance was okay. I mean, I liked it and it was sweet, but a little rushed in the end.

The story was written very well. It held my interest and I didn't find myself bored at all. I liked how fast-paced the story was and that there were some intense scenes. I think fans of suspense will enjoy that part also. ;)

All in all, Under the Lawman's Protection was great. Even though it is the third book in its series, I feel it can be read on its own and you won't get lost. I recommend it for fans of suspense.

*I received a complimentary ebook copy of this book for my honest review. As always, all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.*

Really enjoying this series. Picked up the second book when looking for something to read. Now I am really digging into this series. Isaac is part of SWAT and when his friend calls and asks him to look out for his sister and nephew, Isaac goes. Soon they are all being hunted. Good story with faith and a wonderful HEA.

Under the Lawman’s Protection is book three in the SWAT series by Laura Scott. Isaac gets a voice mail from an old friend, Shane asking him to protect his sister and nephew. Isaac is a skilled SWAT team negotiator and Shane is a local police officer working undercover. Shane’s cover has been blown and he is in trouble. Leah is a widow and she lost her policeman father at a young age. She is against falling in love with a man with a dangerous job. But Isaac weaves his way into her heart. She also comes to realize that his skills from the SWAT team are keeping them alive. Isaac has his own issues as Leah and her son bring back memories of his past. Leah’s son Ben was adorable. One of my favorite scenes was his involvement in the epilogue. The story is action packed and has Christian undertones. Leah openly prays while they are in danger and during meals.

Exciting continuation to a great series!

Isaac gets a call from his buddy Hawk to watch over Hawk's sister Leah and her son. When he gets to her house, he stops a man from kidnapping her. From there the action and the surprises never stop! They keep getting found and attacked. Hawk apparently is in some deep trouble in an undercover assignment. The bad guys are after his sister and nephew to try and get to him. But Isaac is doing his best to keep them safe and help then solve the problems. Can he do it?

The pace is breakneck and the tone is uncertain yet hopeful with an action and character oriented storyline that has some kisses but no steam. The characters are all vibrant and endearing. The Christian ideals are an integral part of how the main characters handles problems. If you like Christian romances with non-stop action and detailed characters, then this is for you! Enjoy!

ebook from the library and enjoying reading the suspense/ inspiration series. Just reading an episode of a crime story takes longer than watching tv crime program but feeds my evening avoiding tv watching. Laura has a different style but glad for the opportunity to read her work along with the team of others who write suspense.

The thing I appreciated most about this series was that it was set in Milwaukee. That said, I'm not sure I buy how much "off the books" work the SWAT team members take part in. I liked Leah and Isaac's backgrounds and they dovetailed nicely into their relationship. However, the realization of their feelings felt a bit abrupt at the end.

If you are looking for a story that will satisfy your need for a smart mystery filled with a healthy amount of suspense and infused with a sweet, family-centered romance, then Under the Lawman’s Protection is the perfect story for you. You will be swept into a world of heartless evil and hope-filled love that will leave you holding your breath until the very end. Above all this story serves as a beautiful testament of praise and honor to the men and women who risk their lives for us every day in the line of duty.

Everyone is entitled to security and happiness in their life, or at least that’s what Leah always believed until the day her dad died in the line of duty. As she watched her world shatter around her, her heart and her beliefs changed drastically. Settling for the best that life can give her, she has learned to become as content and happy as possible. Issac has made mistakes in the past, and he knows there is no way he can make amends for them. Pushing forward with his life, he does what he can now to lead a simple but honorable life. He he has learned to no longer want what he can’t have. No matter how content we think we are with living a half-life, there will always be a part of us that will ache to be filled. When danger finds Leah and her son, Issac is sent by Leah’s brother to protect them at any cost. While Issac is more than willing to lay down his life to protect them, will he be just as willing to give up the same payment in regards to his heart?

Under the Lawman’s Protection is such a beautifully uplifting story filled with just the right amount of mystery and heart that will leave you wanting more. The story had a very good pace and the characters were very easy to relate to. My heart broke for Leah and Issac over the struggles that they had to endure, but I took heart with the fact that they never truly gave up. They used their hard times to motivate them to continue to make their life better. During very unexpected circumstances they were placed together and for once dared to dream and hope for just a little more. Their steadfast faithfulness to themselves and God paved the way for incredibly amazing blessings to be showered upon them.

This is the first book that I have read by Laura Scott, and I can honestly say that I was pleasantly surprised by her delicate yet purposeful writing. The characters that she created were delightful and intriguing, and her storyline held me captive the entire time. I couldn’t have asked for anything more in a book, and I would recommend it anyone who is looking for a meaningful and encouraging story.

4 STARS

This is a good suspense action. You never knew for sure who the bad guys were till they revealed it. Did not put the book down till I finished reading. Fast read. When things looked liked they were calm than more drama and action. I liked that they prayed for help, protection, and food. I liked the characters.

Isaac Morrison got a message on his phone to protect a friends sister and kid because his cover was blown. He could not trust anyone.
Isaac when he received the message was already an hour old. Isaac was a SWAT officer. His friend Hawk lived in a close city and different police department.

Isaac had only met Leah Nichols a few times. He hoped she still lived in same place. When he got their he found someone sneaking around. He got Leah and Ben to safe away but not for long.

Leah is a widow raising her 5 year old son Ben. Her only other relative is her brother. Their father died in line of duty so she was always afraid for her brother. No way was she going to fall for a cop.

I have read two of the three books of this series and have liked them both. I would love to read the book I have missed reading.

I would read more books by Laura Scott in the future.

I was given this ebook to read by Net Galley and Harlequin. In return I agreed to give honest review of Under the Lawman's Protection.

When Shane finds himself in a bit of trouble he calls his friend Isaac to help protect his sister Leah and nephew from any danger that may come their way because of him. This case that Shane stumbled upon can blow a world of undercover crime including dirty cops and hit men. Isaac got more then his hands full trying to keep Leah and her son safe, trying not to let his past trudge up old memories and lets his feelings get into the way of his current mission.

I absolutely loved this book. Action packed for sure. There was so much going on that there was never a dull moment. I also liked that this book was clean and was a bit religious in a way. There was a lot of mention of god and prayers so for those of you who are into that might be interested in this book. I loved watching the interest between Issac and Leah. I loved that Leah was for the most part wasn't so helpless, she did try to do her part, sticking her nose a bit where it doesnt belong to help. There is much to like about this book, and with as much as I liked it I recommend you lovely readers to check out this book. 4.5 Stars!

I was really impressed with Under the Lawman's Protection. Let's be honest, 224 pages isn't a lot of time to develop a suspenseful plot without leaving a bunch of loose ends or giving readers a too-basic plot. Scott does neither. The book was packed with action. The characters were compelling. The mystery was intriguing and "twisty" enough to keep my interest. I enjoyed reconnecting with Isaac's friends who were featured in previous books in the series as well. If you're looking for a quick, suspenseful read with a nice romantic thread, you're sure to enjoy Under the Lawman's Protection by Laura Scott. [4 stars]

Picked it up and couldn't put it down. I haven't read the first two books of the series, but didn't feel lost at all starting with book three. There were a few references to previous books, but again, nothing that made me feel like I was missing out on something really important. The faith aspect was addressed lightly, the only thing that rubbed me wrong was the lack of mention of Jesus Christ. It seemed to be portrayed that belief in God is all that's required. Just an impression - not something that would keep me from recommending it to others. Overall, a very sweet romance with a little action and suspense thrown in. I enjoyed it enough I'll be looking for the other two books and any future ones in the series.

I've read all books in this series and loved them all. UNDER THE LAWMAN'S PROTECTION is a great addition to the series. Isaac Morrison is a strong hero who's gone through a painful tragedy in the past. He rushes to the rescue of his friend's sister and her son, and takes his mission seriously. He'd protect them with his life, if necessary. Leah Nichols is independent, strong-willed, and brave, exactly the type of heroine I love to read about. She's eager to keep her son safe, but she's also determined to help her brother. The book has very likable characters and great suspense with unexpected twists that keep you reading. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

SWAT team member Isaac Morrison promised to protect his best friend's sister after getting a disturbing call that Shane's cover had been blown. His enemies will go after Leah and his nephew Ben to draw him out.
The threesome are led on a chase of their lives and in a rush to find Shane before it's too late.
Intense story and a good who done it!

More like 3 1/2. It had a good story, and the female protagonist was a little stronger than most, but, basically, it was SOS - Same Old Stuff.
