Many of today's traditions, customs, and beliefs are legacies derived from myths and legends our ancestors created as they first formed settlements. They arose from a need to give meaning and understanding to the natural world and to human emotions and desires. Throughout recorded history, ancient myths and legends have influenced art, literature, music, and religion and are still part of our lives today. Mythologies of the World looks at ancient myths and legends, how they are interpreted today, and what they mean to us now. It includes features on the origins, beliefs, customs, and practices of the major centers of mythology.
Do you believe in ghosts? I do! I also believe in witches, warlocks, goblins, elves, magicians and true love. You might think I'm a dreamer, said John Lennon. Well, I am too. Mostly, I write stories for children about ghosts, witches, naughty children, good teachers and bad teachers. There are lots of bad teachers but that's what makes them interesting. I live in a cottage deep in Sherwood Forest with two mythological beasts named Loki and Shiva.
I was satisfied reading this book. It was informative. It gave me a more expansive (yet cursory) background on peoples worldwide and across all known human history.
The book includes about every culture a basic description of era, location, and religious activities. (DUH! It's a picture book called "Mythologies of the World")
