“The Hamilton series just keeps getting better and better. For the love of God, Mark—hurry up with Book 15!” —Rob Scranton, ARC reader
Captain Galvin Quintos thought he'd found peace on his Colorado ranch with the love of his life, Gail Pristy, far from the dangers of deep space command. But when Petty Officer Aubrey Laramie arrives with a desperate proposition, that quiet life explodes into stardust—and threatens to destroy everything he holds dear.
Laramie's family faces financial ruin unless they can win the Rage Run Rally, a deadly competition where twenty ships race through hostile alien territory to steal precious minerals from three heavily guarded vaults. The prize? Fifty million credits. The catch? Most competitors don't survive.
Against Pristy's wishes, Quintos agrees to captain the mission, leaving behind the woman he loves for what he promises will be one last adventure. What starts as a simple heist quickly spirals into something far more dangerous. The Varnathi aren't just defending their territory; they're hunting for blood. Enforcer Ko'Rek T'Vann has waited decades for revenge against Quintos's niece, Sonya Winters, whose pirate bloodline carries a debt written in violence and death.
Racing against corporate killers, bloodthirsty aliens, and mysterious competitors through deadly obstacle courses and mechanical death traps, Quintos must navigate not just the perils of space, but the complex loyalties of a crew caught between duty and desperation. The modified EFT-class vessel USS Rebellion becomes their lifeline, a ship that can split in two, combining the speed of a fighter with the cargo capacity of a freighter.
But when a deadly alien pathogen strikes Pristy back on Earth, the rally transforms from a dangerous gamble into a desperate race against time. With only hours to live, she needs the Gorvian alien nanites in Quintos's blood to survive—if he can somehow complete the most dangerous heist in galactic history and reach her in time.
With vengeful enforcers, the entire Varnathi Navy closing in, and the woman he loves dying light-years away, Quintos faces an impossible choice between duty and love, between his crew's survival and his heart's desire.
In the void between stars, some treasures are worth more than money—they're worth dying for.
USS Rebellion is a space opera on steroids. I really hope there are many sequels to the USS Hamilton. I have read all of MWM's books, starting with Scrapyard Ship. I also loved USS Ironfist. Keep up the good work, Mark Wayne McGinnis. You're my hero.- FJ
USS Rebellion - Varnathi Territory falls into the following Metaphysical and Visionary, Galactic Empire, Alien Invasion, First Contact, Fun Space Adventure, Humorous SciFi, Space Exploration, Space Opera, Military Science Fiction, Space Fleet, Space Marine, Hard Sci-Fi
A great sci-fi series and well worth the time to read them all!
First off i have to say that i do believe that Mr. McGinnis is a fan of Futurama. Where else could he get the inspiration for a renegade ship captain, teenagers with hormones, alien encounters of the very close kind, a 300 year old robot infused with a very human wisecracking personality and a whole crew of misfits with heart?
Our hero is Captain Gavin Quintos, who had been both a renegade and a Space Navy Captain who bends the rules. Add to this his XO, who will not only follow him literally to the end of the universe, but is also his love interest. ToSs in his brilliant niece, Sonya, a former petty officer, who also wants the Captain as a love interest., a whole group of tougher than titanium Space Marines, and of course Hardy, the 300 year old Chromebot who will do anything to protect Quintos all while making wisecracks. If i didn't know better, i would swear that Hardy is really Bender from Futurama.
Quintos and his crew keep trying to leave the Navy, but they keep getting called back because they're willing to bend regulations ( heck snap the regulations into little pieces) and get the job done to help protect Earth from some really nasty aliens.
I advise you start with book 1 in the series, and just keep going. These are definitely up all night space thrillers. This is book 14, but a new one is in the works and I'll be looking for it!
And the whole crew! Misfits they may be, but they still manage to get the job done and they will not be stopped.
I always have a blast diving into a new Mark Wayne McGinnis book, especially when the whole gang is up to some exciting adventures! It’s just the perfect mix of action and sci-fi, and the ending is always a winner—the good guys always come out on top! No drama, just pure action and fun. If I’m looking for suffering, I’d probably pick up Ruocchio instead! This book really nails it.
I’m guessing this book is self-published, and I’m super impressed that it doesn’t mention an editor or agent, yet he still manages to write such a fantastic book. Awesome!
The only thing that bugged me a bit was the whole plot about racing for pirate resources across space. That was my only little hiccup. The rest of it is fantastic!
Well, twas different. Instead of a culminating battle won with Quintos’s brilliance, was a varied thread arc of competition, love, and the good old team. Enjoyable, and easier to follow than some. In your hearts of hearts, one knows how it’s going to turn out. Win the race, save the fair maiden, and the robot as well. Looking forward to next novel, just so can see the ‘summing up convlusion’ that will invariably be the opening lead.
The Quintos Saga continues in the finest of traditions. Mark is a genius at putting so much personality into his characters and situations. I am so happy to be able to read another of his cogent Sci fi adventures. I already have #15 waiting. Thank you Mark for #14!!!
Another really Outstanding Book in an Outstanding Series!! Read it starting with Book # 1. This one was an exciting read from front to back. I cannot wait for the next one to come out!
Though it feels like I've missed a book or so I think most books are stand alone. I wish either Amazon or Good Reads would do a better job presenting series book lists, read and unread so it's easier to find any missed, next, etc.
A bit different storyline this time, but I really liked it. It is good to see the same characters in a different sort of situation. I can't wait to see what awaits them next!
Loved this one. Gavin is more fun when he’s not part of fleet. Now it is a race for millions in credits in an area of restricted space. Sonya is in danger and Gail’s life is on the line. Just another adventure but with a better reward at the end.
Quinton gets dragged into another wild adventure, this book is another worthy read in the series. If you liked the previous boom you will enjoy this one too.
Excellent book,Mark Wayne McGinnis. Another great writing job. I have not read a book by Mark that I haven't enjoyed. Keep up the good work Mark. Looking forward to reading your next novel
