Dead Witches Tell No Tales

Rate this book
Even in the Holllows - Cincinnati's home to all supernatural folk - vampires and werewolves can make strange bedfellows. Just ask Rachel Morgan, private investigator and witch. First her never-do-well boyfriend disappears into the night. Then the hunky protege of vampire crimelord Piscary starts eyeing her curves... not to mention her throat. Throw in a demon or two keen to singe her hide - or take her soul - and you'd think she was the poster child for doom instead of one savvy spellcaster. Luckily she shares her business and the deconsecrated church she calls home with roomies Ivy, lithe living vampire, and Jenks, the world's crankiest pixie. For it'll take more than boots to grind down the hell-magic and mayhem that surround her. EVERY WHICH WAY BUT DEAD finds Rachel in a battle of wits and spells, going head to head with nemesis Trent Kalamack and the dark magic he's long ago forged in becoming a drug lord. Who would have guessed Rachel's own father had been his partner? But as she

THIS IS A GREAT SERIES! It has become my all time favorite.
KIM HARRISON(Dawn Cook) is the best, you will be hooked from book 1, page 1.

SHE WILL ALWAYS LEAVE YOU WANTING MORE...AND WAITING FOR THE NEXT IN THE SERIES!

You will not be disappointed! K.H.'s characters come alive, you will laugh and cry with them, grow tremendously from book #1. I love the world that K.H. has created. Bio-engineered tomatoes, witches, vampires, pixies, faeries, trolls, wolves...

The first book runs kinda slow in the beginning but finishes with a bang. And the rest of the series..Kicks-Butt!

WARNING:The novels build on each other...things that happen in book 1 will not be figured out until book 3 and book 3 events with be concluded in book 7, etc. K.H does a wonderful job on weaving the entire series.

I reread the entire series every new release and LOVE every last one of them!!!

EVERY WHICH WAY BUT DEAD
This book is the best thus far in the series. You can tell it's starting the hit its stride. The characters are becoming more established and the lines between protagonists and antagonists are thinning a bit.

Rachel strikes a deal with Algaliarept, a demon, to testify against Piscary. To do it she'll have to become his familiar. From there she meets his old familiar, Ceri, who happens to be an elf. She turns out to be a very mysterious, interesting, and powerful character. Does Rachel want to make her existence known to Trent Kalamack?

Her relationship with Nick is strained from the second installment after she makes him her familiar. In the meantime, there's Kisten. Their chemistry from the end of the second book certainly doesn't go ignored here. All I have to say there is WOWZA!! Her scenes with Nick were pretty boring (he's human, what can he do?), so adding the vamp was a welcome change.

She ends up going to an event with Trent Kalamack, elf tycoon and brimstone dealer. No, they aren't chummy. Quen, Trent's head of security, cannot accompany him due to his vulnerability to his vamp scar, so he begs Rachel to go in his place. This gives the elves a bit more development and we learn more about Rachel's past and her father. While there's definitely some heat with Kisten, there is surprisingly a good deal of chemistry between her and the elf, too. He's got a few surprises of his own, but I found their adventure together quite fun. Man, I can't help but like the bad boys!

If that's your thing, you'll want to read this series.

A FISTFUL OF CHARMS
Many people loved this book, but this was actually among my least favorite.

Nick, Rachel's ex-boyfriend is a conniving little snot. He adds nothing to this series, except my hate for him. He ends up partnering with Jax (Jenks' son) and they get themselves in trouble with the weres after their attempt to steal the Focus.

The gang take a road trip to save him and Jax, but Jenks needs to be a bit more powerful. Soooo Rachel makes him big! While this particular book wasn't my favorite, that one scene is probably one of my favorites of all of the series.

Rache's starting to tap into darker powers to get the job done. Can she still save her soul? How will the battle of vamps vs. weres turn out?

I am not that big on werewolves, so that probably contributed to this not being my favorite series. There was also too little (as in NO) Trent Kalamack. The bastard elf has become a character that I really look forward to seeing, so with him missing, it just wasn't quite the same for me. Big Jenks makes up for that a lot, but it still didn't completely fill the void for me. Even still, there's no way I'd miss a Hollows installment and I am eager as ever to see what Book 5 has in store.

This is a collection of books 3 and 4 in the series- Every Which Way but Dead and A Fistful of Charms.
With each book the series gets better and better.
I enjoy all the predicaments that Rachel gets herself into and I really appreciate the author keeping her sense of conscientiousness and sense of doing the right thing.

i liked this book. it wasn't what i expected; i had been expecting another book like Twilight, full of fluff and nonsense. But I was surprised by some of the humor and i will admit that there was fluff, but sometimes fluff is good to read and take a break from all the seriousness.

If you are reading Kim Harrison, you are reading the best. I have tried every trick in the book to make each new Hollows book last longer with no luck. I have re-read the series about 10 times in the last year and I still can't put them down. Everytime I re-read them I get more out of them.

I found this book at Half Price Books and I am hooked. I love the characters of Rachel Morgan, Ivy, Jenks, and Kisten, plus Jenks' family. I could go on. The story flows and you can't help but love all the characters like you love the friends on "Friends". I've already bought another book and looked up the others. This series is going to be epic.

Fantastic book! This was a thrilling ride from start to finish! By far my favorite in this series so far. I love the development of Rachel Morgan's character. She is maturing, she is still very flawed which makes her endearing and somewhat relatable. I adore Kisten!!! Yummo! Can't wait to see what happens there. The introduction to David the Were was cool, he is going to be reliable and stable in Rachel's life. We got a bit more background info on her father and his history. Love love love Ceri!! This is going to be a great to see Trent find out about her in the future. I don't know if anyone else feels the same, but those demons really scare the c*@p out of me! I was literally on edge of my seat when she was in the ever after! Yikes!!! Note to self, do not make deals with demons! Lol!

this book really wasn't that bad. i would give it between 3-4 stars though. in each of the 4 books i have read that has to do with rachel morgan and her friends, i really like how it isn't day to day life with each book and things from the past goes too much into the new story. i like how they deal with different runs that she goes on.

This is one of my favorite paranormal series. Kim Harrison never seems to fail. You will easily get drawn into her story and have to finish it in one sitting to see what will happen next.

Two books in one takes longer to read. However Rachel. Still jumps without thinking. Her bond with Jenks and Ivy is getting stronger. On to number 5.
