"I don’t have a type, do I? All blondes with light eyes… Oh, I do." — Pippa. 💚 She’s a college student with an interesting side gig (spoiler: it’s illegal) 💚 He’s a flirty golden retriever 💚 First person single POV 💚 Wait ... Some people have powers?! 💚 "Cooking lessons" 💚 Bi and demi representation 💚 Interracial couple While waiting for the Supergirl movie, there’s only one thing you can do .... Read a book about superheroes! 🦸🏿♀️ Or, yk, villains 👀 Welcome to Hopeburn City! Here we meet Pippa Clarke, the most unserious burglar ever, as she tries to steal a diamond to pay for her college fund. Guess who hates student loans but also hates part time jobs? But hey, if you twist the description, isn’t being a burglar technically a job? 😉 She’s called Tempest. But Tempest isn’t the only one running through the night. Meet Wildfire. MindWeaver. And oooohh don’t forget Pippa’s siblings. Pick your side. Put on your cape. And sssh, don’t tell the police! As a DC fan, I always enjoy superhero romance, especially when the heroine is badass and a little morally grey 😈 Pippa checks a lot of my favorite tropes in the list! Add the MMC, Emile, who’s basically a golden retriever in human form, and I’m sold. It doesn’t even matter that I actually requested the ARC for the sequel. The combination of Pippa and Emile alone would convince me to read this in any genre. What can I say? I’m a sucker for cinnamon roll dudes 😳 There’s a bit of instalovey here since Emile practically wags his tail from their first meeting, but it didn’t annoy me at all because they don’t immediately jump into bed or start discussing kinks. Though it’s never explicitly stated, I truly believe Pippa is demisexual, and it’s such a fresh take compared to the instalust trend lately. Because of this, Pippa’s first smutty scene doesn’t even happen with Emile, but with another girl she’s known for a long time, which leads to a hot FF scene that might burn your toast 🔥🥵 It’s not cheating, just a one time thing. And for those who don’t like sapphic scenes, it’s easy to skip. But honestly ... Why would you want to skip two girls helping each other out ... Romantically? 🥰 I’ll admit I struggled a bit with the writing style 😬 It’s pretty heavy on narration and sometimes overly descriptive. Pippa is the kind of narrator who’s loud in her own head and thinks in a lot of detail. Since it’s first person POV, we experience everything firsthand. At times she sounds very gen z-ish, and I felt too old for that. Yeahh, call me grandma 🥴 But luckily, it improves quickly! By around chapter four, I was finally comfortable following her narrative. Between college life and her not so secret identity, our girl is ✨ BUSY ✨I liked that the college plot wasn’t just glossed over and we actually see her struggles. I felt stressed with her half the time, and the only cure was whenever Emile showed up asking her out. Coffee dates. Thai food. Karaoke. Very college core 👌 When Pippa says Emile is her type, I felt that in my bones. It almost feels like the author opened my brain and peeked into the "dream man" folder 😩 Blond. Light eyed. Respectful. Kind. Listens to Pippa. And he can cook, girls. Like, brunch level cooking??? 😭 That’s one of the hottest things a man can do. Bonus points because he also has a big d— Never mind ☺️ The author balances it by making Emile a little dumb. So dumb that he doesn’t pick up on clues about Pippa’s identity until the very end 😂 He’s also a bit too passive when it comes to Aiden, his bestie who’s secretly in love with him. But that actually creates great tension between Pippa and Aiden as they compete for Emile’s attention. Imagine that: two queer people fighting over the same himbo. Honestly? I don't blame them. I’d fight for Emile too for the cooking alone 🥰 OM drama but make it gay bestie? Delicious. Inject it directly into my veins 😏 My main complaint is that there are still SO many unanswered questions: Pippa’s foster care background, the mole in the nest, "mother’s" motive, and how the world bulding actually works. I can’t help but wonder how normal humans in this universe adapted to kids being born with powers, which I assume started more than three decades ago, since Pippa’s oldest sibling is 28. How did it developed and worked? Genetics? Random lottery? I need answers! Some plot twists were easy to spot, but still enjoyable. But the BIGGEST crime, like genuinely criminal, is how the author had the audacity to summarize my favorite kink. I??? Cry??? 💀 You can’t just sprinkle it at the end like that. I needed at least 30 pages. Pegging is ✨ elite ✨ content. You CAN’T skip pegging. It elevates a book by 98%. Instead, I’m left imagining Pippa pegging Emile and I’m SUFFERING. Feel my pain. Send help!!! Maybe next book? 😭 We already got a glimpse that book two will have an FFM dynamic and I can’t wait. I already love girls, I mean the girls characters ;)) and it looks chaotic in the best way with Foxtail running his mouth. I’m curious about who's guy daring enough to come between them. I hope he’s as lovely as Emile! Also, I’d like to formally order one full pegging scene, please 🥺 Huge thanks to W.A. Grace for the free copy!
This is my first super hero and villain romance, and it did not disappoint. I loved the setting and the hero’s and the criminals. The powers and abilities were so interesting. Pippa and Emile had great chemistry. I also enjoyed the found family aspect with Stone, Muse, Ainsley and the other characters. They all had such interesting dynamics. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series and seeing more of these characters.

Suit Up joins the small but fun genre of superhero romances! There are so few new ones on the market right now, so it's refreshing to have another published!
Emile is such a sweetheart. He immediately simps for Pippa, and he takes every opportunity he can to see her! If you look up Bi Wife Energy in the dictionary, his pretty blond self will show up on the page.
Pippa is a college student by day and a cat burglar by night. it's fun watching her try to hide that side of her from her civilian boyfriend. And I love seeing demisexual representation on page.
There are a few twists in this book, though I guessed one of them pretty early.
*I received an ARC from the author and am leaving this review voluntarily.*
Superhero romance with many cute scenes. It’s been a while since I’ve read one like this. It’s kinda reminded me of a simple older manga. I would recommend it to persons interested in power tropes with a less fantastical aspect.
