This Series will cover a brand new set of characters that are ex-cons (Or can they be ex-cons if they escape from prison?) and the one true loves. This book will be Odin's book.
Lani Lynn Vale is married to the love of her life that she met in high school. She fell in love with him because he was wearing baseball pants. Ten years later they have three perfectly crazy children and a cat named Demon who likes to wake her up at ungodly times in the night. They live in the greatest state in the world, Texas. She writes contemporary and romantic suspense, and has a love for all things romance. You can find Lani in front of her computer writing away in her fictional characters world...that is until her husband and kids demand sustenance in the form of food and drink.
I really, really enjoyed this because of the FMC Sage. She was an awesome character honestly. She took no shit. I have a feeling this whole series is quite good. This is the second book I've read in this series. Reading completely out of order. This one just came out and I read it in one sitting. I was entertained from beginning to end. Though the end kind of went off the rails I'm still giving it 5 stars. It's a miracle when I read a book and like all the characters.
Gentry the H saves Sage when he sees her being attacked in the back of a car after having had just met her prior at a coffee shop. Him there to meet his baby mama, and her there studying as she's a college student. Ends up being her attacker is actually her fiance who she's being forced to marry. Then come to find out they're all involved in the Irish mob. The H ends up killing the fiance accidentally and goes to jail where he'll await trial. But he gets out on bail. Sage then tells Gentry to marry her so her name can protect him in prison. Though that doesn't work because her father and brother have him attacked for the 7 years he's there before he's broken out during a prison riot. Where he's moved by a MC and given a new identify. While in prison though we're told that his son is murdered by the mob in retaliation. Which later we learn isn't all that it seems. This whole book revolves around the men who were wrongly accused of their crimes and are then given a second chance and new identities. When Sage learns of Gentry's "death" she's then to marry the brother of her dead fiance. But before that can happen Gentry's people trick her into moving to Montana to start over. That is where their love story begins.
Safety: dog fighting, child abuse, child endangerment, kidnapping of young children
Not a Gentleman was such a ride. Gentry saves Sage on literally the worst day of her life and ends up paying for it in the worst way — framed and thrown in prison for over a decade, while she marries him in name only just to try to protect him. That's such a gut-wrenching setup and Lani Lynn Vale does not hold back with the angst.
The grumpy/sunshine dynamic between these two worked so well, Gentry's got that hardened, done-with-life edge from everything he's been through, and Sage is out here fighting for him the entire time even when it costs her. You really feel how much these two have sacrificed for each other before they even properly get their shot at being together.
The suspense element elevated it too, there's mob stuff tangled up in Sage's family drama and it kept things tense in a way that made this feel like more than just a romance, it's genuinely thrilling. And I did not see the twist coming, like at all, which doesn't happen for me often anymore with this genre.
Only knocking it down from 5 because the opening felt a little heavy with heartbreak before the story really got moving, took me a minute to get fully hooked. But once it clicks, it clicks hard. If you're into grumpy/sunshine with real stakes and a mystery woven in, this one's so worth it.
Each book in this series is different enough that you don’t feel like you’re getting the same story over and over.
Ramsey Kelly just happened to be the kind of guy that is not going to let anything happen to a stranger even though it ruins his life. He lost everything.
Sage has a crazy evil family. The Irish Mob!! She’s just a tool to them.
Revelations that are shocking and heartbreaking. This author is so versatile no matter what she writes it’s fantastic.
“I couldn’t have dreamed a better life than the one y’all gave me.”
Not A Gentleman is by a best-selling author of contemporary romance. This author offers a heartfelt journey into the transformative power of connection. Centered on two distinctly complex characters—Gentry and Sage—the plot explores how a single, life-altering moment can bind two souls in ways neither expects. This book is a notable pick for those who relish emotional depth wrapped in suspense, with just the right amount of heat and drama to keep us hooked.
From the outset, Not A Gentleman grabs you with its vivid storytelling and magnetic characters. Gentry stands out as a fiercely protective figure whose devotion to Sage feels raw and genuine. He’s not a gentleman in the traditional sense, but his fierce loyalty and willingness to risk everything for her safety add untold layers to his persona. Your heart will break for all he has endured just for doing the right thing. Those with money and power made his life unbearable, but he never gave up. Sage, meanwhile, is effortlessly relatable. She might seem meek at first, but the moment she is threatened or those she cares about, you see her fire ignite, and you realize how formidable she truly is. This woman's vibrant personality brings a refreshing authenticity that elevates their chemistry. I loved her spark and her frankness, she made us laugh many times, as you never new what would come out of her mouth next and shock you.
The emotional tension between Gentry and Sage is palpable; their interactions spark with electricity, making the romantic moments almost tangible. The author expertly balances intense passion with moments of vulnerability and tenderness, creating a dynamic relationship that feels both thrilling and believable. The pacing is another strength: the blend of suspense and mystery intertwines seamlessly with the romance, keeping the plot engaging without ever feeling forced or predictable.
While the story is rich with drama and emotional weight—occasionally bringing a tear to the eye—it also offers a gratifying escape into a world where love and protection mean everything.
In conclusion, Not A Gentleman is a captivating read for anyone who appreciates romance novels that combine heartfelt emotion, suspenseful twists, and sizzling chemistry. Fans of stories where love is forged through trials and fierce devotion will find themselves utterly engrossed. This book isn’t just about passion, it’s about finding safety and belonging in a world that often feels uncertain. For those who crave that mix of fire and heart, it’s a compelling choice that promises not to disappoint.

⭐~⭐~⭐~⭐~⭐~⭐~⭐~⭐~⭐~⭐~⭐~⭐~⭐~⭐~⭐
Finally, the Gentry and Sage book I’d been dying to read !
Given all the glimpses we’d had of Sage and Gentry (their second "first meeting," the whole thing with Sage’s dog that absolutely broke my heart), this was one of the installments I was most looking forward to ... And I devoured it ! There’s a deeply painful shared past (all the consequences stemming from that one tiny decision !) and plenty of crazy plot twists (which is my favorite thing about LLV’s books—that extreme "drama llama" vibe !), all wrapped up in a generally sweet romance =)
The storyline involving the dog was heartbreaking, though I was less convinced by the subplot with the brother (the lack of communication between the siblings and the somewhat too-easy resolution didn't quite win me over ><).
All in all, a lighthearted, drama-filled biker romance that’s an easy read !
If you are looking for pure, unadulterated escapist candy and a cute dog, look no further. Lani Lynn Vale delivers an absolute treat with this one!
📖 The Vibe Gentry is the ultimate "good guy who just happens to find himself in the worst situations." He’s currently locked in a brutal custody battle with an evil ex-wife just to see his son. Enter Sage. After a highly frustrating, less-than-amicable showdown with the ex, Gentry crosses paths with Sage at the worst possible moment—just as she’s being assaulted.
🎢 The Twist & Turns What follows is a wild, fast-paced ride. One thing quickly leads to another, resulting in a marriage of convenience and, somehow, Gentry finding himself in prison. Fast forward to the present day, and the book transforms into a deeply fun yet mysterious tale as Gentry and Sage try to navigate their crazy reality and figure things out together.
💬 Why You Should Read It This book has a little bit of everything to keep you turning the pages:
Surprises & Revelations: Just when you think you know where it's going, the plot keeps you on your toes.
Sweet Retribution: There is some seriously satisfying karma handed out (Yay!).
Pure Romance: At its core, it’s a whole lot of heart and romance.
The Verdict: A chaotic, romantic, and highly entertaining escape. If you love a good-guy hero, a marriage of convenience, and plenty of drama, you will devour this!
Sage and Gentry met under the strangest circumstances and he comes to her revue and ends up in prison for a crime he didn’t commit and yes our beloved Apollo comes to the rescue and he’s one of those that “died “ in a riot and get to start a new life ….
Sage married Gentry as a way of protecting him because of her family but she wrote to him while he was in prison and she was affected but his “death” so imagine her surprise when she sees he’s vey much alive !!!! In his defense he was trying to get her a fresh start via Apollo and she needed to get away from her mob family …..
Sage lives in Gentry’s yard as they’re trying to work through her dog’s trauma, he was one of the lucky ones that weren’t euthanised after being rescue from the dog fighting ring , my heart breaks for Neo but he pulls thorough 🐾🙏🥰
The missing kids and their trauma had me in tears and on edge , the nasty nurses at the hospital had me seeing red and let’s not talk about those “mothers” and all they put Dean through but fortunately the boys distracted me and had me in stitches reading the girls smuttie books , these boys blushed 🫣😂 and Neo had me cheering him from the sidelines I felt like all my boxes had been ticked and then some😄
I loved Sage and Gentry but I’m counting down till 4 August for the next instalment …. This series is addictive 🥰😉and I just want more !
Gentry is a protector who doesn’t hesitate to come to the assistance of Sage, a woman he doesn’t really know, which has now resulted in him being incarcerated and a marriage of convenience with her and losing his son. When Apollo offers to help him escape and create a new life he agrees if it means that she will get the fresh start she needs as well however the only problem is that everyone has believed he has passed away.
Sage found herself being forced by her mafia family into a marriage she doesn’t want to a man she wants nothing to do with. When Gentry comes to her rescue she wants to do what she can to help which includes a marriage of convenience and daily letters, so he doesn’t feel alone while she tries to get him set free. When she believes he has passed away the offer she receives for a job in Montana couldn’t have come at a better time however she is about to find out she is no longer a widow but a wife.
This story hits on so many levels from the romance between two people whose beginning was not ideal, to the chemistry that is always there to the secrets that are about to be unleashed and the emotional impact that keeps coming as these two characters fight for the happiness that has always been out of reach.
Not A Gentleman had me from the very first page, I was captivated and enamoured by both the storyline and the main characters. Two people that had been brought together by one moment that would change their lives dramatically. Gentry will steal your heart with the way he ensured the safety of Sage even though he didn't have to. Sage was a character that you wanted to befriend, and I loved the way that she appeared to be able to be pushed around until you pushed her just that little too much and the fire lit inside her. The chemistry and connection between these two was electric and at times had your pulse racing and your heart pounding. These two brought the passion and heat in spades and had your skin on fire. There is plenty of drama, suspense and mystery that will have you on the edge of your seat. The storyline was highly emotional and at times had me wiping away stray tears. Gentry may not have been a gentleman, but one thing is for sure he would set the world on fire to make sure that Sage finally felt safe and loved. I can guarantee once you open this book there will be no way to put it down until the very end.
This series goes from strength to strength. I love each new couple more than the last. This is Gentry and Sage's story. We get to learn their past and why there is a little hostility in their present. And we get to see just how hard she is willing to work to save hee dog Neo and earn his trust back after the abuse he suffered earlier in the series.
These two have history which predates Apollo's jailbreak. A chance circumstance brought them together and tied their lives unexpectedly. Sage has lived for years believing the man she married for safety is dead. Gentry has quietly pined for the woman he saved. Upon setting up his new identity he ensures a role for Sage on his new life. And they get their real chance at falling in love.
Sage is an incredible character. She seems lonely and her new start brings her friends and an extended MC family. Gentry brings her a safety she hasnt had the luxury of feeling. And you get the sense there isnt much he won't do to keep her protected.
Another great addition to the series filled with unbeatable chemistry, spicy encounters, suspense, trust building, healing and the signature humour that defines a LLV romance.
Gentry and Sage’s story grabbed me from the first page. These two couldn’t be more opposite but because Gentry is the man he is, he comes to Sage’s aid one night and his life is forever changed. Little did he know that when his life changed again after serving a jail sentence that he and Sage would not only meet again, but end up being together and fighting some of the same demons.
These two are fire together. There’s an underlying current of desire that is always present and it makes their moments together that much more enthralling. I was literally glued to my device while reading this book. There are a few moving parts and some very emotional tears that I wasn’t expecting, but leave it to LLV to do that to her readers. The suspense element of this book was two fold and I held my breath several times as things ramped up. There were definitely a few people who got what they deserved and I absolutely cackled with glee!
Gentry and Sage’s journey throughout this book gave me all the feels, had me laughing and fist pumping and just down right giddy when certain people were given what’s coming to them thanks to Gentry’s friends in the MC that will stop at nothing to make everything right!
I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.
I have loved every single book in this series. This book is no exception. This is the story of Ramsey and Sage. Gentry is a good guy. Always has been. But he has this habit of finding himself in the worst situations. He is currently in a custody battle with his ex-wife who has an evil streak about twenty miles long. He is fighting to see the most important person in his life. His son. Fresh off a showdown with this evil woman, Gentry meets Sage at the worst possible moment. Sage is in a situation that is terrifying and now woman wants to be in. Now these two are not going to be a couple that takes it slow. From the moment they met, everything has just moved a hundred miles an hour. marriage that is necessary and needed and someone in prison is not how one sees their life going. But that is exactly how these two begin their relationship. From these moments on, this book flies and will have you on the edge of your seat. There are twists and turns you won't see coming and you are going to fall so in love with these characters. This is a book that you do not want to miss.
Normally when I write a review, I can just bang out the review as soon as I finish the book, but that wasn't the case in this book. With this book I found that I enjoyed this book so much that I needed to marinate what I read. This series really has gripped me emotionally and I love every installment that I have read. This story is Gentry’s story, and I love how he is so twisted up about a woman he can't forget. Previous characters of course are brought into this story which only enhances it in my mind and brings humor to several situations. This book is full of love drama excitement suspense keeps you on the edge of your seat and just a very good story. This is a book that you do not want to miss this is a book that I will read repeatedly and one that I will buy the audio book to listen to as well. This is one author that I have to say I always return to because she can weave a story around me that sucks me into that world and I end up feeling better after the book is over.
Ramsey Kelly (Gentry) is the kind of hero who makes impossible choices because it's the right thing to do. He steps in to protect a complete stranger, marries her to keep her safe, and loses everything in the process. That alone had me invested.
Sage was such a strong heroine. After believing her husband was dead, she starts seeing a man who looks exactly like him in her new town. When the truth finally comes out, her anger felt completely justified. I loved that she didn't simply forgive and forget. There was real hurt, real heartbreak, and a lot for both of them to work through.
Between the family drama, the secrets, and Sage's connections to the Irish Mob, there was never a dull moment. I kept telling myself I would stop after one more chapter, and that never happened.
I still have questions about Gentry's brother, even knowing they probably won't be answered, but that didn't take away from how much I enjoyed this book. Now I'm counting down until the next one because I already know it's going to put my emotions through the wringer.
Highly emotional and filled to the brim with heart, sass and sexual tension! Vale is on fire with her Don't Date Him series. Each hero seems to get better and better and delivers on angst, formidability and utter attraction. Gentry and Sage never had a chance to get to know each other before tragedy struck and he paid the price for lending a hand when she needed it most. Believing him dead after years of trying to right the wrong done to him, she sets out to move on with her life only to realize she has landed where she did because of strings he pulled, and he's actually alive. Drama ensues with multiple twists that we weren't expecting. The characters are both really easy to like and I was hooked on them right from the start. Loved them together and can't wait to get to the next book in the series!
I highly recommend this book and the entire series to anyone who loves a super sexy contemporary romance filled to the brim with heart, intensity and a mega happily ever after in each book.
Not a Gentleman is book seven in LLV’s Don’t Date Him series and one I have definitely been waiting for since Gentry ran into Sage at the hospital. Imagine her surprise when her husband, who died in prison, shows up alive and well at her latest nursing assignment. Their chemistry and tension is palpable and runs deep.
It’s amazing how one life altering moment can bond two people forever. To Sage, Gentry is her hero, even though he’s paid for it dearly. Now, after all this time, when her past comes back to haunt her, he’s still protecting her. But I love how deeply protective Sage is of Gentry as well. LLV takes us on a deeply emotional journey with this one. It’s not just about two people who have been through hell and back, but who fight hard every day to keep their heads above water and win. It’s about showing up for the people who matter, even when they die and come back to life lol. This series has quickly become one of my favorites and each book just gets better and better.
4.5 Stars This is he seventh book in the series. This one had me hooked right from the first page. Right off the bat it has suspense and intrigue. Life has a funny way of working out sometimes because Gentry and Sage entered a marriage of convivence to save their lives years ago, but now it will do it once again. There is one part in this book that really broke my heart and if I didn't know how much of an animal lover Lani Lynn Vale is I may have stopped reading this one and came back to it at a later date. I knew Lani wouldn't let me down and I was proved right. It's a long road, but by the end my heart was so happy. A few twists in this one I didn't see coming. I really love this group in Montana with pop ins from Apollo. Such a great cast of characters that just keep pulling me in more with each book. I devoured this book in a day. Not gonna lie I was getting more than little angry when I was interrupted because I needed to know what was going to happen! I can't wait for the next book in the series.
We finally get the story of the grumpy, yet sexy sheriff's deputy who works alongside “Black”. But really, we get a backstory and a follow-up on the beloved pup, Neo from the previous couple of books. Gentry's story was very heartbreaking and he meets Sage by chance and helping her is the start of their drama. Once again I'm at a loss for words. This book has me shook. LLV didn't go her usual route with this one so there are a few surprises in store for the series itself. The twists and turns had me dizzy but it was the love that Sage and Gentry found through all of this that really had me reaching for my fan. These two burned up every page together. Really good book and well written, I was always guessing.
There literally isn't a book by Lani I've read that I haven't fallen in love with. She whips out stories like no other, and they suck you in so hard. This is the story about Gentry, and boy, he doesn't disappoint. Sage has always tried to protect herself. She knows a nasty marriage is coming, but she refuses. However, when that man comes for her, Gentry will step in. And unfortunately for being a good guy, it will cost him. Gentry loves his kid like no other, but the baby mama is truly a CU next Tuesday. When Gentry gets falsely accused, it's Sage who will continue to fight. Until one day she finds out he has died. She is done and runs, not realizing that running sends her to her fate in the hands of said hubby. Now secrets will be exposed, and the fight will continue, but can they save each other? I loved this story and how these two fought each other but had one goal: to protect one another. And what happens when they find his child?
Get ready for another amazing, suspense filled book in this series! I couldn’t wait for Gentry and Sage to release! Gentry and Sage meet at a difficult time for both of them. Sages family life is awful thanks to her Irish mob family. And Gentry finds himself at a crossroads with his crazy baby mama. Not minutes later Sage and Gentry are bound together through a marriage of convenience to save Sage from a fate then death. When Gentry dies in prison she fears for her life as she knows it. But when a mysterious offer to move to Montana is presented to her she takes it. And the n she finds out the secrets that gentry has been keeping. Trying to live in the same town as her supposed dead husband is turning out to be tricky. But what’s trickier is falling for your husband of convenience. This is a great read, I couldn’t put it down. The suspense, twists as turns keep you in your toes. And getting to experience Sage and Gentry fall in love and get their HEA is the icing on the cake!
This is the 7th book in this phenomenal series, and this is Gentry and Sage’s story. Sage’s family in the is the Irish mob, and she is just a means for them, while Gently saves her on the worst day of her life. Gentry ends up framed for a crime he did not intentionally commit and sentenced to prison. Sage proposes marriage to Gentry so her family name could protect him in prison. Sage is shocked when Gentry, whom she was informed died in a prison riot, shows up. This is a well written action packed, emotional roller coaster, with found family, friendships, tension, lies, secrets, drama, marriage of convenience, new identity, mystery, suspense, intrigue, grumpy / sunshine, opposites attract, enemies / lovers, guilt, revelations, healing, humour, witty banter, undeniable chemistry, and love, which leads to an entertaining, tragic, twisted, and unpredictable, addictive page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
I was pulled right into this story. The story has pain, twists & turns, secrets, and heartbreak.
If you have not read the below I would recommend reading those books(s) first House of BS & Lies (Don't Date Him #1) People We Avoid (Don't Date Him #2) Not A Side Chick (Don't Date Him #3) Be The Full Problem (Don't Date Him, #4) Forget That Guy (Don't Date Him, #5)
This is Sage and Gentry’s story. He made sure when he got out and in a new place he brought her to him. Even after all he lost by marrying her he needs her safe. But in bringing her to him did he cause her more harm? After all, people know they are married but not together. Can he convince her to give him a chance for a future together before he loses her to the past danger they thought was in the past?
The chance encounter between Sage and Gentry at the start was something. The best thing for Sage, not so much for Gentry. It sucked that by helping Sage, Gentry was punished so much. Didn't help what he lost in the aftermath either.
It was interesting how they ended up in the same place years later. You wouldn't think Gentry would want Sage around him, even if they didn't know each other well before hand. It was fun to see them get to know each other again and how at different times each of them leaned into the tie they had.
I loved the different times Sage would get fed up with things and rant at people, it was totally justified.
My heart was breaking for what they found out about the kids at the end, the one big one and the little ones too.
Nice to see how this one ended, loved seeing them happy and thriving.

This is my favorite of the series….of course, I felt that way after reading each one! This is a tale of having the wrong people in your family. She has a Mom and Dad in the mob. Dad wanted to give her away to a Sick headed mobster from another family. There was an attempted assault, a random man saw the assault and stopped it unfortunately, the creep died and the mob saw that the good guy went to jail. Years later, the mob makes his time in jail a nightmare. By some miracle, an organization helped him break out of prison and relocate with a new identity. The young woman is also brought to the same town as the relocated man…this is such a good story with interesting characters and pets. Highly recommend this story! HEA, no cliffhanger, no cheating. Give this one a try!
Sage and Gentry have not had an easy time since they met. He saved her and got his life ripped apart. She was trying to get out from her family's Irish Mob connections. They both need to move on and get a new life. Gentry does his part and Sage isn't too upset to start over. Their story was definitely a slow-burn. Felt like it had a lot going on in it. Found it interesting. I did feel like it had a lot of dark in it.
I will say that the book dealt with abuse in several forms. If you are triggered, I would recommend being cautious with this book as there could be several triggers for people reading it. I'm not going to say what they are because I don't give away book plots, but I do think people need to be cautious. I have a couple of friends that would definitely be triggered by this book.
Seven books into Lani Lynn Vale’s Don’t Date Him series, and somehow each one manages to be just as addictive as the last.
I honestly didn’t think it was possible, but Not A Gentleman has edged its way to the top of my favourites—if only by a whisker.
Once again, Lani Lynn Vale delivers everything I’ve come to love about her books: emotion, heart, simmering slow-burn chemistry, edge-of-your-seat suspense, and that all-important five-star ending that leaves you completely satisfied.
This second-chance romance had me rooting for Gentry and Sage from the very first page. Their shared history is steeped in tragedy, making their reunion anything but straightforward. Every obstacle, every emotional moment, and every hard-fought step towards their happily ever after had me completely invested.
Their journey is filled with heartbreak, hope, and healing, making the payoff all the more rewarding.
Another masterpiece from an author who never fails to deliver an unforgettable romance.
He saves her from the worst violation possible....
But from there, both their lives fall apart in the most devastating ways possible, corruption, murders, prison, stalking, they both suffer....for years. When they finally come together again there are obviously questions, disbelief, hurt and unresolved grief. But there is also a chemistry that cannot be denied and it leads to a true love that is deep enough to survive further betrayals, heartache, grief, fear and......joy.....so much joy. And hope, a hope neither have ever had before. And nobody deserves it more than Sage and Gentry, they may be different people now but they fit into the Dixie Wardens and Montana perfectly. I listened to this on Audible, which only added to the impact of their story.
Once again this author has ensured I read this book cover to cover, to the point I don’t feel like I took a breath devouring it🫠
Sage meets Gentry in a coffee shop, while he’s waiting for someone to show up. Unfortunately, this causes a domino effect and ultimately leads to Sage and Gentry getting married (on paper only) before Gentry is imprisoned.
A fast paced read with many different aspects and stories all happening close together. I really enjoyed it as well as all the other characters - definitely looking forward to the next books🙌 I received an advanced copy and voluntarily leave my honest review❤️🩹
This book had me hooked from the very start!!! I mean I had no idea that Gentry and Sage’s book was going to turn out so twisted!! And I love Sage and her sassy and savage attitude!! And Gentry and his sweet and protective nature. But the crap both of them had to endure to get to the happy ending they both deserved was so frustrating!! And my poor Neo that made me cry so hard!! I know we got glimpses in the other books but to actually read all of what he went through my heart broke. And to know this actually happens just makes me irrationally angry!! But as usual bringing something to light in a book that LLV has written. I can’t recommend this book or series enough!! ~ By Tina
Oh man this series is coming to an end soon and im not ready to let go. I loved Gentry and Sage.
Their story didnt focus much on romance. But more on the suspense surrounding them and keeping Gentry and Sage hidden. Not just from the world but from the Irish Mob, who is Sage's family.
This one focused on the kidnapping of lottle boys. And loved the suspense and how it worked into Gentry's story.
As always loved every single character and so curious about Black and the FBI agent. But also Ida Bell and Koen... and Bernice and Hux... so many couples and so little time lol. Cant wait for the next one🥰
