Twisted family relationships, sociopaths and conspiracy theories abound in the icy Cascade Mountains of Washington State in New York Times bestselling author Rebecca Zanetti's heart-pounding series about an FBI profiler and her equally brilliant sister on the wrong side of the law.
Laurel’s family was never simple—but her half-sister, Abigail, a brilliant, unpredictable psychopath, just made it lethal. Accused of murdering their father, a man she always called a monster, Abigail claims self-defense. As the trial unfolds and long-buried family secrets explode into headlines across Washington State, Laurel’s hard-won privacy is shattered. And the nightmare is just beginning.
Even as Abigail’s trial consumes public attention, new dangers close in as the murder of a prominent scientist and the illegal poaching of a rare Pacific plant point to something insidious. Laurel turns to Washington Fish and Wildlife captain Huck Rivers, her partner in work and life, for help. But the deeper they dig, the more the case seems to echo the chaos unraveling Laurel’s world.
With danger tightening around her, Laurel faces an impossible trust Abigail in one crucial, treacherous alliance, or risk losing everything. Her career, her relationships, even her life hang in the balance. The clock is ticking—and if the threat breaks loose, nothing will be fast enough to stop it.
New York Times, USA Today, Publisher’s Weekly and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Rebecca Zanetti has published more than seventy novels and novellas, which have been translated into several languages, with millions of copies sold world-wide. Her books have received Publisher’s Weekly and Kirkus starred reviews, favorable Washington Post and New York Times Book Reviews, and been included in Amazon best books of the year.
Rebecca has ridden in a locked Chevy trunk, has asked the unfortunate delivery guy to release her from a set of handcuffs, and has discovered the best silver mine shafts in which to bury a body…all in the name of research. Honest.
Family dynamics, conspiracy theories, murder attempts, and accidents are just the beginning in You Can Scream by Rebecca Zanetti. It is the fifth book in the series featuring FBI Special Agent Laurel Snow. Laurel’s half-sister, Dr. Abigail Caine, is in pre-trial hearings for the murder of their father, Zeke Caine. But Abigail calls it self-defense. However, the hearing is just the beginning of several unsettling events including a sniper, illegal poaching of a protected tree, and several seemingly unrelated accidents. Joining Laurel in the investigations are her partner Washington Fish and Wildlife captain Huck Rivers and her FBI partner Walter Smudgeon.
The characterization is excellent. She has a practical nature, is kind, and organized and rarely relies on instincts. As the protagonist, Laurel is reasonably strong, honest, and brilliant, but she also has some vulnerabilities. She has an eidetic memory and started college when she was 11. With multiple degrees, she has been successful in her career, but sometimes misses underlying signals from others in social situations. She is learning to read people better, but she doesn’t believe in platitudes or lying to make someone feel better. She has dedicated herself to taking criminals off the street. Duty and loyalty to her job, her family, and her principles are her focus. Captain Huck Rivers has been something of a loner, is charming and nice, but has trust issues. He likes rules and routines and likes to be in control of situations. He’s open, determined, confident, and straightforward with sharp instincts. Their romance is only a small part of the story, but he wants a future with Laurel. Abigail has multiple degrees as well and is wealthy. She is intelligent, calculating, and a manipulator. Walter is easy to be around and easy to work with. The other characters had appropriate depth for their roles in the story; especially the other members of Laurel’s team and Ena, a fish and wildlife officer dating Walter.
Most of the story is from Laurel’s point of view and is set in and around Genesis Valley and Elk Hollow, Washington. From her unusual background, to her atypical reflections as she tries to figure out what is happening with the myriad of cases that keep coming at the team to her relentless pursuit of justice for the victims, readers will root for her success.
This is a tense and exciting thriller that gripped me from the beginning with a heart-pounding prologue and kept me rapidly turning the pages as other events unfolded. The well-written story has a clever and deeply involved plot with enough twists and red herrings to keep a reader guessing. The pacing and dialogue are great. As they evolved, the plot facts were intriguing and occasionally unexpected. The suspense builds steadily throughout the story. The physical world-building was vivid. While the ending was somewhat over-the-top, I just went with it to its conclusion. Some themes in the story include family relationships, blended families, romance, greed, and much more.
Overall, this was a riveting story with intense scenes as well as compelling and complex characters that kept me fully engaged. It’s skillfully written and will appeal to readers who enjoy crime thrillers, romantic suspense, and police procedurals. The complexity of the plot plus attention to detail in the world-building made this a definite winner for me. The characters and the setting are fun to return to with each installment of this series. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
Kensington Publishing – Kensington and Rebecca Zanetti provided a complimentary digital ARC of this novel via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own. The publication date is currently set for December 16, 2025. --------------------------------------- My 4.37 rounded to 4 stars review is coming soon.
*4.5* Zanetti delivers everything I love about this series, high-stakes suspense, complicated family dynamics, and characters who feel like they could walk right off the page.
The cast is phenomenal (even the ones you love to hate), and I’m honestly surprised by how much I like the anti-heroine. She’s such a wild card, layered, and unpredictable.
Despite the horrors of the last book, Laurel and Huck continue to grow and strengthen their relationship. These two are steady, supportive, and beautifully written amid all the chaos.
Zanetti balances heart-pounding tension with deeply human emotion. Twisted family ties, conspiracy threads, and a hint of tenderness in the middle of it all, this series just keeps getting better.
Tropes/themes Romantic suspense FBI profiler x wildlife officer Morally gray sister Family secrets & betrayals Conspiracy/secrets High-stakes investigation HFN
Highly recommend for fans of dark, twisty romantic suspense with unforgettable characters. Not a standalone!
Huge thank you to Kensington Press, Rebecca Zanetti and NetGalley for the ARC
This is a well-written, entertaining, fast paced, romantic suspense thriller. It has an intelligent, strong, capable female protagonist, a heroic male protagonist, murder, mystery, intrigue, romance, twists and turns, and a satisfying conclusion. This is the fifth novel in Ms. Zanetti's outstanding Laurel Snow series, and can be read as a stand alone, but is best enjoyed when read in order for continuity. I am looking forward to reading the next entry in this series with great anticipation.
For anyone who isn’t familiar with my reviews, I am a diehard, devoted Rebecca Zanetti fangirl. This book marks the 53rd book of hers, spanning numerous series, that I’ve read. Suffice it to say that I love her work. She is such a good writer and amazing storyteller. I’ve been excited about catching up with new installment of the Laurel Snow series. Laurel is an FBI agent from the small, mountain town named Genesis Valley in the WA Pacific Northwest. Which has basically turned out to be a great place for a lot of serial killers to go and hide out.
The book summary introduces the primary storylines of Abigail’s trial and the murders of a couple of people at the local research facility. What the book summary doesn’t mention is the personal tragedy that Laurel and Huck are dealing with and the personal dangers of Abigail’s case that has Laurel sending her mother, Deidre, out of town and Abigail’s reach as well as any blowback from Abigail’s trial, which there is a lot of. On the steps of the courthouse, a sniper takes a shot at Abigail and ends up only slightly injuring her. As a precaution, Abigail decided to wear a bullet proof jacket – just in case. Lol, yep that’s right folks, a lot of people want Abigail dead. I think Walter (a fellow FBI agent) said it best, “that woman is bat$#*^ crazy”. None of this is a spoiler since it’s basically how the story started and Abigail has been a crazy psychopath since the first installment.
The story flips back and forth between the two storylines as well as the two investigations. It isn’t until the second half that Laurel and the team develop a connection to the two cases. Deep into the second half the storylines merge and it’s a boatload of scary and intense scenes for Laurel and the team.
The continuing character development for Laurel and Huck along with Walter, Abigail and a couple of other characters was well done. This would not make a good standalone, actually, none of the installments would make a good standalone simply because of the continuing character development in every installment. The pacing for this series always leans more toward action-packed mystery/thriller than the romantic suspense/drama, which is the way I like it. The storylines and writing are always interesting, intriguing and engaging. I’m looking at an overall rating of 4.4 that I will be rounding down to a 4star review. I want to thank NetGalley and Kensington Publishing for sending me this eARC in exchange for my honest review.
This is a Crime Thriller/Mystery, and this is the 5th book in the Laurel Snow series. I have read the first four books in this series before picking up this book. I love this series, and I could not wait to read this book. I love the characters in this book. I love all the drama and action in this book. This book keeps me on the edge of my seat, and it is so fast paced. I loved reading this book. I am so over Abigail though. I received an ARC of this book. This review is my own honest opinion about the book like all my reviews are.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ARC Review You Can Scream by Rebecca Zanetti Expected Publication: December 16, 2025
Dark family secrets, twisted loyalties, and a conspiracy that cuts deeper than blood, this book delivers everything I love about Rebecca Zanetti’s romantic suspense. Book five in this gripping series is not one to pick up out of order, but for fans who have been following Laurel and Huck, the payoff is huge.
🎶“In the Woods Somewhere” by Hozier 🎶“Monster” by Imagine Dragons
When I thought I had it all figured out at 26% I knew it couldn't possibly be that simple and it wasn't. The twists, the turns, the dead ends made for quite the journey, especially when you throw in the very messy family dynamics. Half-sisters, Laurel and Abigail, look so much alike they could be mistaken for fraternal twins, but they aren't anything alike on the inside. Quite bluntly, Laurel is good and Abigail is evil. It is an evil of a born psychopath; she has no feelings or empathy for anyone other than herself. Abigail can fake it like a pro, but it isn't real. Laurel has her own shortcomings in the feelings department but is working on that. Their adversarial relationship is at the heart of this book.
Abigail Caine has been accused of the murder of her father, charismatic pastor Zeke Caine. Super smart Abigail claims self-defense, but her half-sister, FBI Special Agent Laurel Snow, knows it was murder and it wasn't her first. The trial will expose Laurel's family secrets and destroy their privacy. But that is just one problem Laurel is facing.
Laurel and Washington Fish and Wildlife captain Huck Rivers are recovering from a tragedy and trying to decide where their relationship is going now. The half-brother of Laurel's partner has gone missing. Walter and his conspiracy theory podcasting half-brother were not close, and it came as a surprise that he was even in the same area of the Cascade Mountains of Washington State. Laurel has also been asked to look into the death of a lab tech where her young friend, Ava, is working as an intern. As Lauren looks into this lab, she discovers other deaths there recently and decides to dig deeper. But digging deeper only puts Laurel in danger, but Huck vows to protect her because she is his reason and he is hers.
My thanks to the Publisher and the Author for providing a complimentary digital Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) of this novel via NetGalley. This is my fair, honest and personal review. All opinions are mine alone and were not biased in any way.
You Can Scream by Rebecca Zanetti Laurel Snow series #5. Suspense with some romance. Best read in series order but can be read as a standalone. Laurel Snow is an FBI Profiler but this time, the threat is closer to home. Laurel’s half-sister has been accused or murdered. She claims it was self defense but Abigail is an unpredictable psychopath with a fascination on Laurel’s life. While trial explodes any hope of privacy, the murder of a prominent scientist has Laurel as FBI and Washington Fish and Wildlife captain Huck Rivers investigating. The case turns threatening with Laurel again in the middle of the turmoil.
I didn’t know where this series could possibly go after the last book. Wow. I wasn’t disappointed. Throw in a psychopath who is brilliant and unpredictable and all bets are off. Purse raising and gripping thriller.
I received a copy of this from NetGalley. I’ve purchased all formats of the series to keep, and gift.
In "You Can Scream", the fifth entry in the Laurel Snow series, FBI agent Laurel’s half-sister Abigail - brilliant, unpredictable, and possibly a psychopath - is on trial for the alleged murder of their father, though that thread quickly takes a back seat. Instead, the action starts off with a literal bang on the courthouse steps with an assassination attempt, and spirals from there into a multitude of cases. Cue the many different law enforcement agencies stepping on each other’s toes, plenty of bickering about jurisdiction, and a remarkable lack of concern for a little thing called conflict of interest. The sheer number of subplots and cases - though eventually connected - made the novel feel far less tense than expected, a problem compounded by an overabundance of irrelevant details - i.e. clothing and wall colors. And when all the storylines finally converge in one wild finale, it requires a hefty suspension of disbelief.
The character work also felt weaker than in previous installments. The ongoing romance between Huck and Laurel failed to draw me in - their dynamic here felt off and oddly formal, and it doesn’t help that Laurel keeps calling him “the captain” in her head. The standout remains Abigail, the resident sociopath, though her behavior is edging into caricature territory, and I still cannot figure out why she’s so invested in Laurel’s life in the first place.
In summary, there were too many story threads pulling the narrative into too many directions for the tension to remain high, and the unnecessarily over the top conclusion did not help matters. Nevertheless, the setting - and the reappearance of favorite townspeople and side characters - will no doubt satisfy longtime fans of the series.
Many thanks to Kensington Publishing for providing me with an ARC of this book via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
"You Can Scream" will be published on December 16, 2025.
Edge-of-your-seat action and complicated personal relationships made for an exciting crime thriller that was hard to put down.
Keep your enemies close and your psychotic sister even closer. Even if you want to get as far away from her as possible. Because you just don't know what she's going to do next. Holy moly, Abigail is in a league of her own. I truly wished there was someone else who saw the real woman behind the manipulative façade. But that group is slowly growing. I cannot wait to see where her story is heading.
This murder mystery led to a very intriguing culmination of what initially looked like separate incidents. Just as Laurel and Huck and their teams began to sink their teeth into one murder, something else would be thrown into the mix. The action was fairly fast-paced and flowed smoothly from one event to the next.
Laurel and Huck kept being the glue that held the story together. I loved the way they loved each other. They were fundamentally the same people we met in the first book, but they have grown together as they continued to make room for each other.
I can highly recommend this series if you like a slow burn romance with interesting characters, murder, and clever detective work. It is definitely better to read the books in order and there are plenty of character and relationship development from book to book.
Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with a copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Everything seems to be ramping up. Huck’s confession had me swooning. As well as his overprotectiveness. Abigail is freakin crazy but I can’t tell if she genuinely loves her sister or not. Laurel’s growing from just being around Kate and her daughters. She’s forming attachments and learning to be more… relaxed? That’s not the best word to describe it but that’s because I’m not sure how to describe it. Either way, I’m loving this series and can’t wait to see what the next book will bring us.

📚 You Can Scream continues Rebecca Zanetti’s addictive Laurel Snow series with more high-stakes suspense, family secrets, and emotional landmines. FBI profiler Laurel is already navigating the fallout from her half-sister Abigail’s murder trial—where Abigail, a genius-level sociopath, claims self-defense. But when murders start piling up, Laurel and her partner (in every sense) Huck are pulled into a deeper, darker mystery.
👨👧 Laurel is sharp, resilient, and undeniably brilliant—but Abigail steals the spotlight. She’s cold, calculated, unpredictable... and absolutely magnetic on the page. Their toxic bond is the heart of this installment and gives the story a tense emotional edge.
💞 Laurel and Huck’s romance isn’t the center, but it simmers in the background with real warmth and just enough friction. His steady protectiveness contrasts well with Laurel’s internal fragility—and it works. You root for them, even as bullets start flying.
👧 Side characters continue to flesh out the Valley setting, especially Smudgeon, adding texture and backstory that make the world feel lived-in. I loved the expansion of Viv’s storyline too.
✍️ Zanetti’s signature? Smart heroines, layered suspense, and slow-unfolding danger. The pacing takes a bit to hit full speed, but once it does, it’s unputdownable. There’s always something brewing—whether it’s poison in the forest, bullets in the air, or secrets on the witness stand.
🌟 The intersecting mysteries (how do the puzzle pieces fit?), and the sniper twist kept me turning pages. If you enjoy thrillers with brains, danger, and a bit of heat, this series deserves a spot on your shelf.
📲 QOTD: Do you prefer your thrillers with a touch of romance or straight-up suspense? 📲 ALT QOTD (non-romance readers): Would you trust a family member if they confessed to murder?
This series just refuses to let up, and I am absolutely here for it. Laurel continues to be one of the most compelling heroines I’ve ever read. The way her mind works, the way she processes danger, clues, and people. She fascinates me. Every time I step into her world, I’m pulled right back into that razor-sharp mix of intelligence, instinct, and the cool, analytical clarity she carries. She once again had me completely hooked.
Huck’s protective instincts roared to life in a way only this author’s heroes exhibit. I love the way he worked alongside Laurel without overshadowing her, especially when he was at his most protective. Their dynamic is a subtle, powerful rhythm that gives me all the feels without overshadowing the mystery. And wow, the tension in this one. I loved the constant pulse of unease that lingered through every chapter, the level of detail that demanded my attention, and the twists that kept me scrambling to piece things together. I never knew where the threat was coming from or how deep it ran.
There were moments that had my skin tightening with unease even as the plot kept me guessing right up to the end. Abigail’s shadow loomed even larger here. Every time she appeared on the page my antennae went on high alert for hidden motives. It’s clear we’re inching toward something major with her, and the anticipation has me on edge. This installment delivers everything I love about this series: danger, intelligence, emotion, and a heroine unlike any other. I can’t wait to see where Rebecca Zanetti takes us next.

I loved this thriller. This was my first Laurel Snow book and I went in totally blind, but I never felt lost the author does a great job grounding you in the characters and the stakes. That said, you can absolutely tell there’s a rich history here, and now I want to go back and read the earlier books because I’m officially hooked.
This story is fast-paced, twisty, and packed with danger, family chaos, and high stress investigation moments that kept me glued to the pages. I loved watching Laurel juggle all the pressure coming at her from every direction, and Huck was such a steady, solid presence beside her. Their dynamic added a lot of heart to the tension.
Even without reading the previous books, I fell right into this world and now I’m invested enough that I want the whole series experience. A fantastic thriller with great pacing, compelling characters, and just enough emotional depth to make every reveal hit harder.
I enjoyed this so much thanks to Kensington for the ARC.
Laurel Snow’s half-sister, Abigail Caine, is shot as she leaves the courthouse after being charged with the murder of their father, Zeke Caine. Laurel’s boyfriend, Fish and Wildlife Captain Huck Rivers, and Abigail’s beau, FBI Special Agent Wayne Norrs, are tasked with hunting the sniper. Meanwhile, Laurel and her FBI partner, Walter Smudgeon, are steered towards a mystery which involves a missing paranoid podcaster, bizarre deaths, and shifty scientists.
In You Can Scream, Rebecca Zanetti keeps Laurel and her team very busy dodging bullets and sorting through a maze questions that emerge whenever a new death is discovered. I love playing detective with her. She always keeps me guessing to the end!
The fun is doubled by watching Laurel trying to dodge her psychopathic sister Abigail, as well as her neighbour, the jealous and exploitive reporter Rachel Raprenzi. Imagine Laurel and Huck’s exasperation when Abigail agrees to an interview on Rachel’s podcast The Killing Hour!
“It’s like watching two cougars locked in a burlap sack.”
As much as I enjoyed the plentiful amount of shooting and danger that followed our heroes, I lived for the sweet scenes between Laurel and Huck. How are they recovering from their loss in You Can Kill? Will they stay together? Rebecca Zanetti is great at suspense, but she’s a romance author to the core. When Huck tells Laurel that she’s his reason? Oh, my heart, that was so beautiful. These two! They are my favourite sexy Zanetti cops. Without a doubt! I want more of them. Please. And thank you.
What an absolutely gripping ride this book turned out to be! I’m not surprised—Rebecca is an incredible author, and this series just gets better with each book. I was honestly hooked from the first page and tried my best to savor the experience, but I couldn’t help myself. Oh, and the baddie! Boy, was I wrong about that! Thank you to NetGalley and Rebecca for the ARC—I can not contain my excitement for the next book!
Happy sigh. When it comes to romantic suspense thrillers, Rebecca Zanetti never disappoints. I don't typically like series with the same main protagonists, but I read an ARC of the first book and loved it enough to jump on the opportunities to read ARCs of the subsequent two of the series. Then this one popped up on Netgalley. What? I missed book 4? Without hesitation, I bought it and read it before settling in with this one. Not a single regret.
Laurel and Huck are as adorable as ever. Most chapters are told in the third person from Laurel's point of view. But Huck has plenty of his own (along with several from various other characters, sprinkled throughout). I realized in this book that the emotional connection in Huck's chapters nicely balance out the near total logic in Laurel's. I mean, Huck is smart and utterly capable, but he's clear about his feelings for Laurel and astonishingly patient in how he waits for her to come to the same conclusions. His emotions help the reader see Laurel's softer side. Plus, a Fish & Wildlife hero? Who needs a SEAL when you've got a beautiful man (with a dog!) that tracks bears, amiright?
The secondary characters shine as well. Walter and Ena, Kate and her girls, the random oddball or two up at the church. They add depth to the novel. To be fair, I'm getting a little tired of Laurel's crafty sister Abigail and the back and forth between them. Kinda just want Laurel to throat punch Abigail and call it a day. Or maybe not push her out of the way of the next bullet that heads in her direction. But since the tie between them is the overarching series storyline, and I'm looking forward to more Laurel Snow, I'll be patient.
All this to say that I loved the book and totally recommend it, but do yourself a favor and start from the beginning of the series.
I received an ARC of this book for free from the publisher and Netgalley. I'm writing this review voluntarily, and it reflects my honest opinion. Thanks!
The amount of feet kicking, like I'm listening to a Taylor Swift song, was off the charts!! Let's try to forget about the stunning investigative work or the psychological maneuvering that Rebecca Zanetti has packed into this series. No, I want to talk about an iceburg melting. The puzzles unlock, and the utter sweetness of learning to decipher between basic chemistry and true emotion. I am on a reader's high! Dare I say it? You Can Scream is now my official favorite in the Laurel Snow Series!
I simply adore the Laurel Snow series by Rebecca Zanetti and You Can Scream is another great addition to the series. I really enjoy that we don't receive just the two main characters point of views. Readers are given Abigail's and Walter's POVs also , I cant remember if we have been given his POV in the past but I really enjoy his character so I was pleased. Laurel Snow has dangers coming at her non stop with constant sniper attacks and suspicious deaths surrounding her she tries her hardest to connect it all. On the relationship front, her and Huck continue to grow there relationship.
5.0 stars. Laurel's pyscho sister, Abigail, is at her all time diabolical worst compared to the all many threats facing Laurel and her team here in book 5. Thankfully she has Huck and Walter watching her back. Best book yet in the series. It starts off with a bang, and the action and suspense don't let up. I was thrilled that Laurel and Hucks relationship grows closer. Also enjoyed the extra focus on Laurel's partner Walter's character, due to his half brother having a mysterious small role to play in this twisted story. Love this exciting series and can't wait for more.
Rebecca Zanetti kept me on the edge of my seat with the fifth installment of the Laurel Snow series You Can Scream.
Laurel Snow has earned the reputation of an excellent FBI profiler. She is an extremely intelligent woman who can peace things together, unlike anyone else. With You Can Scream things are hitting very close to home for Laurel. She and fish & wildlife detective Huck River, or navigating through some personal devastation, Laurel’s half sister is accused of murdering their father and her FBI partner becomes a suspect. Laurel’s got a lot on her mind and in her hands. The twist and turns come from every direction and just when they think they have it figured out something else happens to twist it once again.
You Can Scream is a psychological suspense story with a romantic element. Rebecca Zanetti keeps the reader on their toes throughout the entire book. I have personally found this series quite addicting. Ms. Zanetti keeps the series fresh and going with every book. Life would not have gotten in the way I could have very easily read this book in one sitting. And when I wasn’t reading it, I was definitely thinking about it.
The story pulls you in right away and before you know it, you’re already 60-70% through the book without even realizing how fast time passed. But despite that, not much actually happens. It's mostly just vibes, scenic descriptions, a few random events that don’t make much sense yet and, as always, Abigail being smug, manipulating everyone around her without facing a single consequence.
Just when I was really starting to get frustrated with her antics the book suddenly wrapped up. Every random thread that had been dangling throughout the story came together all at once, almost too quickly. We barely get any time to sit with the aftermath before it ends and sets us up for the next book.
As much as I’ve enjoyed the ride so far, I’m starting to feel fatigued. The overarching plot has barely moved forward. We keep getting filler books that follow the same repetitive pattern: villain attacks, Abigail charms or tricks everyone and somehow escapes accountability—again, for the fifth book in a row. It’s becoming genuinely frustrating.
Of course I’ll still pick up the next one. But I’d really love to see some actual progress in the plot and character development soon.
Thank you NetGalley and Kensington Publishing for the digital ARC!
Laurel and Huck are in the thick of this explosive mystery. After the ending of the last book Abigale is arrested and what happens next is totally shocking. I never saw the reveal coming.
With there relationship progressing to a deeper level finally.
“You’re my reason, Laurel.” Simple words.
She was his reason?
This is one of my absolute favorite series and I can’t get enough of it. With crazy around every corner there is never a dull moment. It keeps you glued to the pages and hankering for more.
Review copy was received from NetGalley, Publisher. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
I was eager to see what would happen in the Laurel Snowseries after the many events in You Can Kill. I would not start in the middle of the series; I would read these in order for both the personal relationships and the mystery plots. We start with Laurel and Huck briefly on vacation before the next deluge of cases.
Abigail will be on trial for killing her father, Zeke. She's aligned herself with an FBI agent Norris and a lawyer Drexler. Sadly, she is out on bail to continue her evil deeds. When she goes to court for a hearing, someone does take a shot at her.
There is a new case around a pharmaceutical company who has many employees die from a variety of causes. Viv, Kate's daughter, is working there as an intern. Then there is Walter's brother Tyler, who is a podcaster of conspiracy theories, who goes missing. There are a bunch of yew trees cut down. The sniper who shot at Abigail continues to take shots. They begin to wonder if Laurel is the intended target.
Laurel and her team, Huck and his, do investigate and figure out some of the shootings, locate Tyler, and work to connect the why of all the deaths. They figure out enough to be in serious danger. As usual, some of the characters and their actions seem over the top.
I enjoyed You Can Scream but I'm no fan of Abigail. Even with all the crazy, Huck and Laurel manage to further their relationship.
Narration: Amy Landon has narrated the series so her voices are familiar to me. She provided some distinct voices for Laurel and the other characters with emotional or logical tones as appropriate. I was able to listen at my newer 1.75x speed.
This is one of my favorite series, and this installment continues to remind me why. Five stars for this incredible romantic suspense thriller with an ending I didn’t see coming!
This time around, Special Agent In Charge Laurel Snow is investigating multiple murders and trying to see how they fit together. She is also dealing with the upcoming trial of her sister. Laurel is used to having multiple tasks to deal with at one time. She is brilliant - literally - and is always trying to put the puzzle pieces around her together.
There is also her relationship with Captain Huck Rivers. Their relationship continues to evolve and grow stronger - I love them!
I also love the relationship between Laurel and her sister Dr. Abigail Caine. Each new installment of this series brings their cat and mouse game to another level.
I know that I am being light on the details of this one, but I don’t want to give anything away. And while this can be read as a standalone, I strongly recommend you start this series from the beginning. You will love this series, and you will really appreciate this story.
I cannot wait for more!
Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Publishing for the opportunity to read this one early! I truly love this five star series! This one is out on December 16th - you have plenty of time to catch up if you are new to this series. Preorder it today!
