She ruled the city by day… but at midnight, he came to worship, haunt, and unravel her
They call me La Vedova Nera—the Black Widow of the underworld. I rule with iron and fire, no mercy, no weakness. In a world built for men, I clawed my way to the top and made them all kneel.
But he never did.
He watches from the shadows. A ghost in the night. My stalker. My savior. My obsession.
I don’t know his real name, or what brought him to the Windy City. I only know the darkness in his eyes and the blade he draws for me without question. He’s a stray I never meant to feed, a phantom I never meant to crave. But I’ve let him in—into my world, into my bed, into the corners of my heart I swore I’d lock away forever.
There are secrets in his silence. Lies beneath every stolen touch.
And when the truth comes to light, it might burn everything I’ve built to the ground.
I’m the queen of this empire. But he just might be the one thing I can’t control.
Venomous Throne is chronologically the fourth book of the Dynasty of Queens series, set in the Midwest Underworld. It’s a stand-alone darker mafia romance, with no cheating, a guaranteed HEA, and no cliffhangers. A morally grey romance, this book may not be suitable for everyone.
He’s her shadow, her savior, and her greatest threat.
By day, Isabella rules the Chicago underworld as La Vedova Nera, a mob queen who built her empire without mercy. By night, she’s haunted by a stranger in the dark, a silent protector with blood on his hands and secrets in his silence. She doesn’t know his name, only that he never stops watching. And the worst part is, she doesn’t want him to.
Jaxon was sent to take everything from her, but he stayed to guard it instead. What starts as a twisted obsession becomes something deeper, something neither of them is ready for. As loyalties shift and old truths unravel, the lines between love and control blur until there's no going back.
As the city burns with betrayal and war, Isabella’s faced with an impossible choice, hold the throne alone or let someone stand beside her. She’s ruthless, wounded, and unshakable. He’s the only one who’s ever made her feel seen. Blood will spill before either walks away.
In a world built on secrets and violence, love isn't safe. It's a risk, a weapon, and the only thing powerful enough to break them open.
Isabella rises from feared boss to a woman learning to trust without falling apart. Jaxon transforms from a killer in the shadows into a man willing to bleed for someone other than himself. Together, they build something fierce and fragile, shaped by obsession but held together by loyalty and fire.
A steamy, dark, forbidden mafia romance with a stalker turned protector, morally grey leads, forced proximity, and secret identity. It explores power, obsession, betrayal, identity, redemption, loyalty, and the cost of trust. It’s about a woman who ruled without mercy and the man who forced her to choose between control and connection.
The Elevator Pitch: A ruthless mob queen and the silent stalker sent to kill her become entangled in a dangerous game of obsession, power, and trust. As secrets unravel and enemies close in, their twisted connection turns into something raw, loyal, and impossible to walk away from. A dark, steamy, and emotionally intense romance delivering high stakes and even higher heat.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story and found it to be a refreshing take on the mafia romance genre. What stood out most was Isabella's journey as she navigates the deeply misogynistic world of organized crime. Rather than allowing herself to remain a pawn in a game controlled by powerful men, she rises above the expectations placed upon her and steps fully into her own strength. After years spent in the shadow of her abusive husband, Isabella refuses to let others define her as either a bargaining chip to secure power or the infamous "Black Widow" blamed for her husband's death.
Unlike many mafia heroines, Isabella isn't driven by revenge, cruelty, or a thirst for power. Her motivation is rooted entirely in protecting the people who depend on her. She leads with compassion, kindness, and genuine care, qualities that inspire unwavering loyalty from the ruthless men who stand by her side. Her strength doesn't come from fear or intimidation—it comes from earning the respect and devotion of those around her, making her one of the most unique and compelling mafia queens I've read.
Jaxon was equally captivating. From the moment he encounters Isabella, he's completely fascinated by her. What begins as curiosity quickly develops into a full-blown obsession as he watches her challenge expectations and quietly command loyalty. Jaxon is very much the grumpy counterpart to Isabella's sunshine, and while he carries emotional scars and trauma that make it difficult for him to understand his growing feelings, he simply cannot stay away from her. Watching him fall harder and harder for Isabella was incredibly satisfying. This is definitely a "she falls first, but he falls harder" romance, and Jaxon's devotion once he accepts his feelings is everything.
The chemistry between Isabella and Jaxon is fantastic, and their dynamic drives the story beautifully. The romance is packed with tension, longing, and plenty of steamy moments, while the plot itself delivers action, intrigue, and emotional depth. The pacing is excellent, keeping the story engaging from beginning to end without ever feeling rushed or dragging.
While the book touches on some darker themes, they remain relatively minimal and are not explored in graphic detail on the page. As always, readers should check the content warnings beforehand if they have specific triggers.
Overall, this was an addictive, well-written mafia romance with memorable characters, a strong and compassionate heroine, an utterly obsessed hero, and a romance that perfectly balances sweetness, tension, and passion. If you enjoy sunshine/grump dynamics, protective and devoted heroes, powerful heroines who lead with heart, and a hero who falls completely and irrevocably in love, I highly recommend giving this one a read.
This book was a slow descent into obsession, and I loved every twisted second of it. Isabella isn’t just a mafia princess trying to claim her crown. She’s La Vedova Nera, the Black Widow of the underworld. Ruthless, commanding, and unapologetically powerful. In a world built for men, she didn’t just survive, she dominated. But power comes at a cost. And loneliness? It’s the quiet price she’s paid for years. Enter Jaxon. He’s not a knight. He’s not a savior. He’s a shadow watching, waiting, haunting her every move. Their connection is strange, electric, and deeply unsettling in the best way. He’s the stray she never meant to feed, the obsession she never meant to crave. And yet, when he draws his blade for her without question, you feel it: this isn’t just lust. It’s devotion. Dangerous, unspoken, and absolute. Their relationship is messy. It’s not built on trust, it’s built on friction, secrets, and stolen moments. But that’s what makes it so compelling. Isabella’s loneliness bleeds through the pages, and Jaxon’s silence speaks volumes. Together, they’re volatile. But somehow, they work. The story is packed with betrayal, tension, and slow burning romance that doesn’t fully ignite until later, but when it does, it’s explosive. Alexa Michaels delivers sharp dialogue, a relentless plot, and characters who feel like they’re one wrong move away from ruin. What stood out: Isabella’s strength and vulnerability. She’s a queen, but she’s also human. Jaxon’s quiet intensity. He’s always there, even when he’s not. The emotional depth. This isn’t just about power, it’s about connection. The writing. Beautiful, brutal, and impossible to put down.
Another great addition to the dynasty of queens series, this time it’s isabella and jaxon’s story.
I loved that this story centres around Isabella overcoming the misogyny of the mafia world around her and stepping into her strength as a woman, coming out of the shadow of her abusive husband and deciding to not allow herself to become a pawn in a man’s world, who view her only as a pawn to be used to secure their position in the underworld or as the black widow responsible for her husbands murder. Jaxon is intrigued when he encounters Isabella, and the more he watches her the more his obsession grows.
I really enjoyed the dynamics between these 2, the story is well written and paced, packed with tension, action and steam. Although there are some darker themes touched on its very minimal and not on page or in any detail, still check the triggers.

I so enjoyed this read! Isabella is a different kind of mafia queen in this story than what we usually get in mafia reads. Her motivation is 100% the people under her protection. She isn’t ruthless or vindictive or driven by revenge. She is a kind hearted and compassionate queen that surrounds herself with ruthless and loyal men. Because of her genuine care for those around her, the men under her rule are completely loyal and devoted to her. Jaxon is our MMC, and this man is down bad for our FMC. This man is obsessed from the word “Go”, and just cannot walk away from Isabella. He’s got some trauma issues, which means he isn’t entirely sure how to deal with the emotions that Isabella stirs up in him. This is an absolute sunshine/grump love story with a huge dose of she falls first, but he falls harder. Absolutely recommend this story!
Omg Jaxon and Isabella were the strangest couple but worked so well together. I loved the fact Jaxon was so flawed but Isabella worked to understand him.
When Mafia Queen Isabella was fighting to be the Mafiosa of the district she had threats on her life, and hitman Jaxon was hired.
Jaxon was fierce, ultra protective and dominant where Isabella was concerned. He had his flaws and a unique way of looking at life but he always came from a protective stance.
These two were so passionate and this was very much a slow build relationship with each searching for something.
A Beautifully written story. Descriptive, well plotted and a book I could not leave alone. I can't recommend this book highly enough. A fascinating story!!
The one constant thing about this author's books is the strength of the FMC. They are always sassy and headstrong, but have tender hearts. Isabella is part of, and married into, a made man family, but her true passion is the community in which she lives.
When we meet Jaxon, who is mysterious and broody, we know he's keeping secrets; we just don't know what they are... It's clear from the beginning, though, that Jaxon is intrigued by Isabella. He tries to keep his distance, but she knows he's watching over her.
I loved how their relationship grew and blossomed. The chemistry was evident, but the deeper emotions were what kept me glued to the book.
Where do I start! Alexa has once again done it with this series! Our queen is everything and our stray is all protective. After her world comes crashing down and hot put out on her the one thing our MMC didn’t expect was to fall in love with her but he will do anything and everything to protect her and prove to her that he will stand by her side and fight to protect her. When she try’s to take the kingdom for herself and show these men that a woman can do the same nothing and no one will stop her! The characters are beautifully written and the spice is just as good! I can’t wait to see what else she has for us in the next book!
I love Alexa Michaels' dark mafia romance. This series has been so good. I was once again thoroughly entertained by this mafia world and its amazing characters. This book is non-stop thrilling suspense, action, unexpected twists, and steam.
Isabella and Jaxon are intense and full of sizzling passion together. Their story has definitely been my favorite in the series thus far. Absolutely obsessed with how the characters and the plot developed.
Enjoyed reading this! Was nice having a strong FMC who bucks tradition, turning the mob world on its head as its first female Don, I loved the strong connection she had with her community and workers, their devotion to her as a fair leader. I love that she found her voice after years of abuse, and I thought it was so sweet that while she’s ruling a “bad” business, she’s improving the neighborhood. The MMC is an interesting love interest, they have a quick connection to each other and you can tell they’re made for one another. Was a good wrap to the Dynasty of Queens series, looking forward to Alexa’s next series!
When Alexa writes a book, i read it. No questions asked. Simple as that. That much i trust her ability to deliver a wonderful and heartfelt story. Perfectly described, nice plot and twists, banter, spice and all the feels!
The story of Isabella, the Black Widow and Jaxon the Ghost was a wild ride! What to expect in this story:
- Badass FMC in power - Stalker MMC - MMC is overprotective and obsessed with her - Touch her and...well you know - FMC 's life in danger - Found family - Spice
I have enjoyed reading this book so much! Thank you Alexa for yet another gem!!!
From the author: "Venomous Throne is chronologically the fourth book of the Dynasty of Queens series, set in the Midwest Underworld. It’s a stand-alone darker mafia romance.'
The characters were very dark and complex and complicated and perfect together. Plot was intriguing and well paced. World building was excellent and solidly drawn. All in all a great read! Enjoyed immensely and highly recommend.

A captivating read as the mafia boss is murdered and his wife has the potential to take his place. Isabella becomes the Black Widow of the underworld to rule without mercy. I love this idea of her having an admirer, a stalker, a man who wants to see the Black Widow. Jaxon knows what’s at stake, but he can’t seem to resist the little firebrand and to make her his. He’s not her knight in shining armor, he her stalker and her enemy all in one. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is my first book by the author. I was initially unsure what to expect when I read the synopsis of the story as it is pretty different from the usual books, but decided to give it a go. I am so glad I did! The FMC is a really strong individual and the MMC is so obsessed with her. I love the slow-build up of their relationship and the plot. It kept the book interesting. I definitely have to check out the other books by the author.

Venomous Throne is the fourth book in the Dynasty of Queens series. It is another great book from this author.
Isabella is the first female Don. She is a very strong person who rules with no mercy. Jaxon is haunting her in the dark. She doesn't know who he is but he is always watching her.
Jaxon is supposed to take away everything from Isabella but chooses to guard her. He is becoming obsessed with her.
I loved how strong Isabella was. She was ruthless and so powerful. I enjoyed how Jaxon watched her. They were so steamy together. Another amazing story.
Isabella and Jaxon has great chemistry and he was always there for her in a way she never thought she would have anyone. She left one terrible relationship and while many would fall apart, it just made her stronger. Isabella didn't let her need for him interfere with her power and he didn't let his need for control and fear of being close to others stop him from being with her. Not only did they have to keep each other strong, but her budding empire and the men that aren't sure he's whats right for her.

Yes! Women can do the hard things! Have the moment, dust yourself off, and push through! Embrace it all sister! I absolutely loved every minute of this. Even those moments where she had to say “ya know? I didn’t like that you did this, but I’m going to choose to forgive you because I understand the desire to love someone so much you just want to keep them safe.” It was soooooo good! Check your triggers and enjoy!
Isabella was thrust into the fight of her life when she decided she wanted to take over the family. Jaxon is a constant presence seen or unseen. This story is full of betrayal and romance as Isabella tries to take her spot. Can she do it with so much at stake?
Jaxon and Isabella were a weird couple that really makes you think about how lonely she must have been for years. When people are lonely they will reach out in odd ways including ways they don't realize.
I love a good Mafia book with FMC that kick butt, Alexa Michaels hits all the marks with this one. Isabella is a testament to survivor, she survived life dealing with being the wife to an abusive mafia don. When he died everything changed and she did what she needed to. Jaxon the “stray” always around even when she couldn’t see him, is everything we could want in a protector and his devotion to Isabella is what we all hope for in a partner.
Isabella’s husband just died. Rumors says she killed him, the Black Widow they call her. Her brother-in-law wants to marry her to consolidate his power.
I loved Isabella! She is the epitome of a strong, powerful and smart heroine, it was fascinating to see what she is thinking. This was a definite page turner. The author pulls you into her story from the first page and you want to see how her story ends.

This book was fantastic! I love a good mafia plot and this delivered. I loved how the author portrayed Isabella, this FMC was amazing! While the rest of the dons are playing checkers, she’s playing chess. Jaxon was a great MMC I loved how they were together, I just wish there was a bit more about him. This is my first book by the author, will definitely be seeking out the others in this series.

This is a Book in the Dynasty of Queens Series by this author, and can be read as a standalone. It is a suspenseful enemies to lovers mafia romance between Isabella and Jaxon. These flawed but likeable souls and the unique plot make for an intriguing read. It is a captivating love story with drama and steam, sexual tension and chemistry, danger and mystery, and engaging secondary characters. An emotional page turner.

Another wonderful dark mafia romance from Alexa Michaels.
This is Isabella and Jaxon's story. Isabella is known as the Black Widow because her abusive husband died from poisoning and some people believe she was responsible.
Jaxon is a killer. He watches Isabella from the shadows and protects her from danger.
I love a good mafia story with a strong female character and Isabella owns the spot in this one. When her cruel husband dies, she picks up the pieces and boy does she run with them even getting a protector to boot in Jaxon!.

I was blown away with this! By far my fave so far. Isabel’s and Jax were amazing together. She’s such a strong woman. Fierce and captivating. I could see why she was called the Black Widow. And Jax, his want and desire to have her was so intense. I couldn’t get enough of this book. I watched it to continue forever. Their story was fire. I’m a new fan of this author.
Venomous Throne is Isabella and Jaxon's story. It doesn't take long until you are pulled into the storyline and want to keep reading to find out what is going to happen next. I was on the edge of my seat to see what was going to go on next. Fantastic book and series! Highly recommend.
