Jeremy Clovenhoof is immortal. His friends aren't.
He's decided to do something about that. When Ben narrowly escapes death, Jeremy is forced to confront an unpleasant truth. Ben and Nerys are getting older. One day they're going to die and leave him behind. Clovenhoof has access to ancient magic, technology from Hell and absolutely no intention of watching his friends grow old. He sets out to make Ben and Nerys young forever. But meddling with time has consequences. Teenagers become babies. The dead come back to life. And somebody else has realised there's a fortune to be made from Clovenhoof's discovery.
There’s such a thing as growing old gracefully. That ain’t happening here.
It is so hard to know where to start with any Jeremy Clovenhoof book, but this tops everything to date.
The full cast is here and they are exceeding anything previously done. Eternal life, sex competitions, near death experiences, the G8 leaders (with some scarily believable quotes) and a magnet suit. Every good Afterlife story needs a magnet suit.
And some quotes: "The ideal man would be on his own, or perhaps on the periphery of a larger group. That lonely guy who had come out with colleagues after work and wasn’t really enjoying himself. She’d avoid men who were actually drunk (she needed him to perform, if she was to get her sex- positive points) but a man who’d had a couple would be preferable. Reduced inhibitions. Feeling slightly maudlin about his own worth. That was the sweet spot."
"No, it was vital that she didn’t look like she was trying hard to capture her long forgotten sexiness. She was trying to recapture her forgotten sexiness and, by fuck, she was going to put in all the effort necessary– but she couldn’t look like she was while she was doing it. Don’t overdo the makeup. Don’t wear anything too low- cut or revealing. Don’t dress slutty. This was truly a challenge. Apart from her objections to the word itself, Nerys liked to dress ‘slutty’. It had always been her way of throwing down a challenge to the world."
I love the clovenhoof series and this was an amazing addition. The story was funny and entertaining and I enjoyed it thoroughly. I wish there could've been some more characters included but I see how it would've been very hard to fit them in without this book becoming too bloated. Another great read. I love these authors
Oh how I've missed Jeremy! Sympathy for the devil is one thing but I love Clovenhoof. His casual self absorption (which causes to him to meddle in mortal lives with the ensuing unimaginable chaos) is wonderful. If you are unsure whether you'd love Jeremy too, perhaps this will help-he invented a cocktail called a Rusty Catheter- that's all you need to know.
