THE ART OF MURDERIchi's slaughter of the Kakihara Clan has begun! When Kakihara sees the gruesome remains of his underling, he's overwhelmed--it's an aesthetic triumph only a true masochist like himself could appreciate. Just who is this murderer who kills with such brutal beauty?
山本英夫 Yamamoto Hideo , is a Japanese manga artist best known for the manga series "Ichi the Killer" (which was adapted into a live-action film in 2001) and the series, Homunculus (manga). Recurring themes in his manga are crime, sexual deviations, and psychology.
I liked the gore. this is definitely my least favorite so far. the twins are not interesting and are just violent for the LOLs essentially. I dont mind violence in stories if it serves a purpose but this was mostly sexual violence and thats not really my cup of tea. im honestly hesitant to read the next omnibus. I know there's been s/a and stuff a lil bit in the other 2 but this one just seemed worse.
Ichi is graphic but in this volume he hits levels that are extreme. Of course it isn't just him alone, the twins are straight up nuts as hell and cruel to boot. Then you have Oyaji, and we already knew he was a freak but damn. What the old man had planned seems like it is spiralling out of control as revenge sets into the minds of the Yakuza. I am beginning to think nobody will be left standing in the end lol.
The third omnibus is excellent but slightly weaker than previous two. Mainly because of the dialogue. I'm not sure if just the translations are weird, or is the writing like that, but on several occasions the lines feel off in the context. The insanity is steadily progressing and now the almost guro-level of violence meets bizarre humor. Ichi cannot come and get his "ding dong" down. Pops is worried, because the constant erection could cause his dick to rot! Damn, that's hard science.
New characters, the twins, are introduced. Kakihara calls his old clan members to help, and those two are the most vile and repulsive human beings imaginable. The long torture scenes and abuse of women is very disturbing in this volume. The artwork of the violent scenes is very intense. I also liked the cinematic stand-off at the end.
Reading this absorbed me again into the ultraviolent and fascinating Ichi-world, and it felt like the ending came too quickly.
I like how Ichi seemingly is getting some actual character development, and Kakihara is chaotic and really fun as always. Can’t wait to see their inevitable clash.
This volume got even more fucked than usual, somehow. The twins are vile. I hope Ichi fucks them up, lol.
Hideo Yamamoto is growing on me slowly, tbh. All his works are insane and usually pretty over-the-top, but the writing is always interesting to read honestly. It’s up and down between over-the-top fun and absolutely fucked shit happening. But I can’t look away. Like watching two trains about to collide.
Honestly, can’t wait for volume 4. Plus, I’m excited to read and finish Hikari-Man (the tamest of his works so far and that’s saying something lol) and start Homunculus.
I had a nausea, it's not that it does not have powerful moments or that the characters have no reasoning. I believe also it's meant to shock and get the readers under the skin of perverted behavior. But it too much, it's too brutal and it's lost inside this sadistic mayhem , and can't get the story going. The first volumes are a bit better, but still no need from my perspective to have auch a rape scenes. Its shocking without it. As the main characters are in enjoying pain, so what more is needed? So it becomes just plain blood porn with the violence is directed mainly at women.
