She's living under his roof. He's living in denial. And neither of them can seem to keep their hands off of each other.
Hailey Sorrels is the rodeo circuit’s golden girl—barrel racer, small town royalty, and every bit the picture-perfect princess. Weston Langford, champion bronc rider with a chip on his shoulder, has never liked her or the privileged world she comes from. She thinks he’s arrogant and insufferable. He thinks she’s bratty and fake. But when one unexpected act of kindness cracks their walls, neither can ignore the tension simmering beneath the bickering.
When Hailey’s world implodes with a family secret that sends her running, she ends up on Weston’s ranch—temporarily, of course. But the longer she stays, the harder it is to walk away from the people she’s grown to love—and the cowboy who gets under her skin in all the wrong ways. Pride won’t let either of them admit what’s building between them, but when it comes time to choose between the life she came from and the one she’s building, will she finally stop running?
Perfect for fans of enemies to lovers, steamy cowboy romances, small-town vibes, and banter that will have you kicking your feet. Ace of Spades is the first book in the Hidden Creek Ranch series and can be read as a standalone, with a guaranteed HEA.
Tropes- Enemies to lovers Bronc rider MMC Barrel racer FMC Slow-burn Small town Found family
✨️ Thank you so much to Harper Quinn for this ARC of your debut novel! This book had me hooked from the very beginning! I loved Hailey's sassiness and witt when she interacted with not only Weston, but all the guys. I knew I was going to love Weston, but I really had no idea how much I'd fall for him. The chemistry and steam that these two share was amazing. I was giggling and kicking my feet. Not only did we get this delicious enemies to lovers story, but we also get a little suspense. I also loved the friendships that Weston had with the guys as well as the friendship that Hailey forms with West's sister Dakota. I THINK I know who the next book in the series will be about and it's one of my favorite tropes so I'm super excited to read it. Overall, I absolutely adored this book and I 100% recommend it!!
Absolutely smashed it, this is everything I want in a small town romance. I am so excited to see what this author does next because this book was just absolute perfection.
This was a really great debut novel. I am so glad I picked this one up, it was a really fun read with some enemies to Lovers, Cowboy, golden retriever mmc, no third act break up, what more could a gal ask for. There were a few twists I did see coming and a few shocking moments, it was just all around a good read. Also, there's a baby racoon, and it's my bump group mascot, so of course, I was so excited to read a book with one featured lol.
Weston, our MMC, was the sweetest green flag of a man, there were quite a few instances where I just swooned over some of the stuff he does, offering her something then having to get it sorted without her knowing gah so good. I really loved his swagger, but his sweetness is what made him such a great character.
Hayley, our FMC, was a tough little cookie, there were moments I felt really sad for her. But I am glad she stuck to her morals because it made her such a likable character that you couldn't help but root for. She's hesitant about Weston to begin with, but oh boy, once the spice hits, the chemistry is off the charts.
Cowboy romance, but make them both rodeo stars that are also enemies to lovers?! I THINK YES! As if that wasn't enough but then you add the fact that it also has a sassy fmc, dirty talking mmc, a bit of "who did this to you?", a big ole heap of found family and a shirtless mmc that bottle feeds a baby racoon. Well damn, just consider me hooked. And a debut novel no less! Consider me a fan. I will definitely be back for more! A 4.5 ⭐️ read for me.
This book certainly packed a punch in all the best ways. It had me on the edge of my seat (especially at the end), giggling, smiling, kicking my feet, getting a bit hot under the collar and just having the best time while reading.
The banter and dislike these two had for each other at the beginning made for great reading. But then it was paired with all these subtle, sweet moments from both of them that helped them both chip away at that dislike, which then ended up quickly dissolving into adoration for each other. The spice was on point but to me all the soft moments were what made this book great. They showed their love in the most gentle of ways and the more moments we got of them together, the more that shined through.
Weston was the greenest of green flags. Not only was he a big ole softie for Hailey, but he was also the ultimate protector for his Mum, sister, his friends and the town they live in. He was adorable with the little boy that stayed at the ranch. And don't even get me started on him being a racoon Daddy 🔥🥰
Hailey was this fierce, sassy, badass barrell racer with the biggest heart of gold. She stood up for what she thought was right and really grew into knowing her worth and what she deserved. I loved her care and affection she had towards her animals. Oh and of course for any strays she picked up along the way.
I am very excited to see where this series will go next! I can't wait to see who's story will be next.
Thank you so much to Harper Quinn for sending this arc my way.
HARPER QUINN!! Are you stalking me? Because it was like this book was written just for me and my current hyperfixation - cowboy romances, specifically rodeo cowboy romances, and specifically with found family vibes. AND it's a debut novel?
I wouldn't say this was a perfect story, but it's a damn good thing I wasn't looking for perfection. All I wanted were good vibes and to be obsessed with the characters and I was! I loved Weston and Hailey and our side characters? SWOON. Found family is an easy way to make me love a story and this did the found family thing so well.
I'd say my only criticisms were that A, I wanted more. I felt like there was some depth that was left on the table instead of being explored so I just wish we had been given everything, but I also understand wanting to make a shorter and tighter story, which is what the author gave us. No long, rambling nonsense, which gosh, I so appreciate as I've read several books lately that have been too long for no reason, so even though I wanted more, I'm glad I didn't get the midway slump like a lot of books have been giving lately. The pacing was good here!!
And also B, I wiiiish we were going to get a brother's best friend book with Chance! I was kind of devastated that it's clear we won't be getting that story now because I loved Chance and I so wanted a peek inside of his head! Though I'll read anything else Harper Quinn wants to give us in this world!
So, final thoughts? Highly recommend this one! Definitely worth taking a chance on this new author if you're in your cowboy romance era like me!
I really enjoyed this book. Hailey and Weston absolutely hate each other all because of who Hailey’s father is and what he’s doing to the town. Hailey is not aware of the bad things he is doing and when she finds out she leaves her home and ends up on Weston’s ranch. Weston is very protective of Hailey and although he tries to deny his feelings he can’t. I really enjoyed this book can’t wait to see what happens in the next one.
“Ace of Spades” was the real definition of a slowburn, but honestly, I didn’t mind at all. The banter and tension between Hailey and Weston was dynamic and crackling. I didn’t expect there to be so much suspense, which was a fun surprise. I also really liked all of the secondary characters and the hinted relationships for future books, especially Chance and Kota and Rafe and Cheyenne. Overall, I really liked this one!
Harper blows her debut novel out of the water! If this is just the beginning I cannot wait for the rest of Hidden Creek Ranch because y’all - I’m HOOKED! Rodeo life, found family, big dreams, wanting to be seen for more than a name carries… this book seriously has it all! I spent my high school years around the rodeo scene and this book brought all the arena filled memories back. I loved it!
Cowboy romance just got it’s newest IT COUPLE and boy are they good! Weston Langford is a bronc rider taking the circuit by storm. BDE is on the outside but who he really is, is so much more! When you get to see beyond who he is outside of the arena it leaves you completely swooning. He hasn’t had it easy but boy is he determined to give back and provide for his town. Wes is literally all GREEN FLAGS!! Hailey Sorrels is not the most liked in her new town. Her father’s name and plans for a new resort are not doing her any favors, but she is fierce & determined to prove she is her own person. All she wants to do is ride and the last person she plans to fall for is the cocky bronc rider.
I sat at the edge of my seat, giggled, swooned, and definitely had to fan myself with this sassy FMC & her dirty talking cowboy. Their banter when they were enemies is top notch but behind their layers, oh my heavens are they so sweet! “Who did this to you” vibes paired with being huge softies & protective of the other, this book left me longing for more. I was hooked from the beginning and was so sad to reach the last page. These two are not the only ones you will fall in love with, and the depth this book went to was such a beautiful surprise. I truly wish I could read this again for the first time!!
I will never look at an Ace of Spades the same way again!
Arc Reading 📚 Cowboy/Cowgirl 💗 Enemies to Lovers ✨ Small Town 💫 Rodeo 🏇 Spicy 🌶️
10 ⭐️ if I could give it. I love this story! Nothing like a small town cowboy hottie!
Hailey Sorrel is a cowgirl through and through. Barrel racer, goes to rodeos. She’s really really good. Comes from a wealthy family. People think she’s a spoiled brat/princess.
Weston Langford is a smokin 🔥 cowboy. He does the rodeo as a bronc rider and from a small town.
Hailey’s dad bought some land in this small town where he will build a resort. He forced the hand of the trailer park owner to sell to him. Where Wes’s mom lives. Raising the rent so everyone will move out. Hailey finds out what her family is doing to these people which forces her to make the choice to leave her home. She ends up with Wes at his ranch.
They tap around their feelings until they don’t ☺️ They are spicy together.
I truly couldn’t put the book down, You immediately fall in love with the characters and the descriptions of the ranch and rodeos are so spot on you can turn it into a movie in your head. I know this just came out today however I can not wait for more.
Hailey Sorrels is a well known barrel racer as well as a recent college grad with a degree in social media marketing. Growing up she was handed everything on a silver platter, but barrel racing was something she always felt like she earned herself. After college, she is able to compete and earn money while barrel racing, but it’s not enough for her, she wants a real job. Weston Langford is a horse trainer and bronc rider, and has to work HARD to earn everything he has. He and his 4 closest friends are trying to start a dude-ranch for people to travel to and experience ranch life, but they are still in the start-up phase.
Hailey and Weston never see eye to eye, they both have major judgments about each other. He believes she’s a spoiled brat, while she thinks he’s arrogant and rude. With both going to the same rodeos to compete each weekend, as well as all of their friends in common, the two see each other more than they want to.
After finding out how her father actually runs his business, Hailey goes running to the ranch that Weston and his 3 friends own, Hidden Creek Ranch. The 4 men need help with the social media, and in turn Hailey can not only live on the farm, but she’ll have a job as well as be able to train with her horses on the ranch. The two start to become close, due to proximity, and the walls they have built up around themselves start to crumble while getting to know each other better.
The story line of this book continued to pull me in throughout the book. The tension between Hailey and Weston was top tier, and when it finally boiled over, the two had fireworks. I loved every second of this book, I can’t wait for the next one!
Thank you to Harper Quinn for the ARC opportunity!
ARC REVIEW Hold my wine, because this book was so damn good!!! Like, so dang good. From their very first interaction to the last page—OMG. She’s supposed to be his enemy, but he can’t get her out of his head. She thinks he’s rude… until the little moments start piling up—from inviting him into her trailer, to him giving her riding tips, to her moving in, to him distracting her during storms because she hates them. The progression of their relationship was addictive. It wasn’t overly dragged out, but at the same time, it moved just fast enough that the tension didn’t get to breathe as much as I wanted. Still, when they finally kissed, best believe I put on “The Walls” by Chase Atlantic. Hailey is the type of girl who’s always there for everyone, trying her best no matter what. Her walls are sky-high from a lifetime of being on the move, but she’s still such a sweet person. From the first chapter, it’s clear she’s not the spoiled girl everyone assumes she is, and I loved that about her. Weston? Every bit the cowboy I imagined—hot, scruffy, and impossible to get out of my mind. He’s a natural protector, taking care of everyone close to his heart. When he put his hat on her head, I was gone. His character was beautifully written, and the slow build of him realizing how much he cares for her was perfect. I also loved that, even with a clear villain (her dad), the story never lost focus on their relationship’s growth. The friendship between the boys was so sweet, and Chance… oh, I see you. I so see you, and I can’t wait for your book. This is absolutely a couple I could read about a million times over. And hello—they have a baby raccoon!
Thank you Harper Quinn for this ARC copy of Ace of Spades!
I loved this book so much! I loved the dynamic between not only the MCs but also all the supporting characters!
The growth of the FMC, Hailey was admirable, although I can’t believe she kept Brad around as long as she did, even tho they weren’t in a committed relationship and it get thrown in her face along with his all around arrogance, ugh he sucked! It was mainly for her parent’s benefit but ugh he was frustrating.
All tho Ava didn’t seem to stick around as a character, since she seemed flaky from the get go, I will always be grateful to her having the Cowboys come over, with that being the first time Hailey and Weston met.
Weston was a top notch gentleman and cowboy! Even though he was relentless in his teasing of Hailey. Their banter was everything. I loved how even tho Hailey mentioned them “hooking up” was a one time thing the way that Weston kept showing Hailey in subtle ways how much he was falling for her was special.
The creek part was defiantly the turning point of their relationship when she clung to him because she wasn’t a strong swimmer and he took care of her was absolutely one of my favorite parts. Tropes: 🤠Enemies to lovers 🐴Bronc rider MMC 🤠Barrel racer FMC 🐴Slow-burn 🤠Small town 🐴Found family 🤠No Third Act Break-Up
I absolutely cannot wait to add this one to my trophy shelf.
Debut book, say what?! There’s no way this amazing book is Harper’s first book! I seriously ate this book up and left no crumbs! 6⭐️s honestly…. It’s THAT good! I was hooked from the first page!
💖Found Family 💖Enemies to lovers 💖Suspense Romance 💖I can make it on my own- boss girl mode 💖cowboy romance 💖Barrel racer/Bronc rider romance 💖Small Town
This book follows Wes and Hailey’s story.
Hailey is a champion barrel racer that is trying to make a name of her own (not the one her daddy gave her). Her parents have always thrown money at her to buy her love. She wants to prove that she deserves all that she has and that it wasn’t just given to her. Wes is a cocky, but sexy, pro bronc rider! He hates Hailey and her family because of what Hailey’s dad is trying to do to their small town (build one of the rich tourist attractions and run out small businesses)! *gag* (we don’t like Mr Sorrels)
The banter and tension was done perfectly throughout the entire book! I loved the suspense thrown into the mix. And let me tell you, the spice was spicing (but still left so much storyline)! Honestly I have nothing but great things to say about this book! I can’t wait to display it on my shelf and definitely can’t wait for Harper’s next book! Hoping for Kota’s book next 🤞🏼
Thank you Harper Quinn for this amazing ARC opportunity! I am so grateful.
I was so excited to receive an Advanced Copy of Ace of Spades!! This is the perfect read for fans of Indigo Ridge or Chestnut Springs!!
Weston and Hailey absolutely can’t stand each other, he thinks she’s bratty and fake and she thinks he’s a playboy. Most of Weston’s disdain comes from the fact that Hailey’s dad just bought property to build a giant resort in their small town and is shutting down all of the mom and pop businesses that make their town what it is!
After an altercation, Hailey has no where else to go and ends up staying at Weston’s ranch…. Right behind his house😉
With them both being in the rodeo circuit they are always running into each other but when she moves to the ranch it gets even harder for them to truly deny their connection!
Weston is the perfect MMC: He’s broody, overprotective but loves hard when he falls and he care so much for those around him.
Hailey is stubborn, has a hard time letting people, but has the biggest heart
The beginning had me a little lost for a chapter or two, but I really think that was due to distractions around me, but once I got into it, I couldn’t put it down!
Drama, Suspense, twist and turns that I just couldn’t wait to find out what would happen!
Such an amazing debut! I can’t wait for the rest of the series!
Finished this one in a day because I couldn’t put it down!
Ace of Spades follows Weston & Hailey a bronc rider and barrel racer on the same rodeo circuits. Both of whom call the same town home. But while Hailey’s dad is busy buying up all the land for his luxury resort, Weston and his friends are doing everything they can to help their neighbors so they can keep their homes and businesses.
When the two meet Weston just thinks Hailey is a snob and she’s not impressed by his reputation either. However the two do have some tension filled moments where it looks like things could become more. After Hailey realized the truth about how far he dad is willing to go to get his way she gives up her rich girl lifestyle and she and her horses wind on up on Weston’s ranch.
The forced proximity just means Weston and Hailey can no longer deny their chemistry and Hailey likes who she is outside her father’s shadow. But when her dad finds out where she’s been and who she’s been with he’s not willing to let her continue on her journey. And Weston’s not going to willing give up Hailey once he finally has her.
Loved these two together Weston’s tough exterior cracks for Hailey. And she’s not afraid to speak her mind to him.
After the epilogue I need the next book stat🩷
Thank you Harper Quinn for the opportunity to ARC read this.
Looking for a swoony, small-town cowboy romance with heat, heart, and just the right touch of suspense? Ace of Spades is your next must-read!
Hailey Sorrels is rodeo royalty—rookie of the year in both Barrel Racing & Breakaway Roping, social media savvy, and stubborn in all the best ways. But she’s also the daughter of a wealthy developer who's destroying her hometown... something she only realizes too late.
When she leaves that life behind, she ends up at Hidden Creek Ranch, where bronc-riding legend Weston Langford works—and let’s just say, he’s not a fan.
Weston is the ultimate cowboy dream: a 3x World Champion, loyal, protective, raised in a trailer park by a strong single mom. Now he trains horses and fights to protect the ranch and town he loves—from developers like Hailey’s father.
Their chemistry is off the charts, but when secrets come to light, danger strikes—from jealous exes, kidnapping, arson, and more. Still, nothing stops Weston from stepping up when Hailey needs him most.
💘 Tropes you’ll love: 🌵 Enemies to lovers ❤️ Small-town rodeo vibes 🌵 Protective cowboy + fierce heroine 🔥 Slow burn with heart & heat
This debut had me hooked from page one! Huge thanks to Harper Quinn for the ARC—I adored it and can’t wait to see what comes next!
So this book was good! Think Elsie Silver or Bailey Hannah. It had the elements of small town romance with the cowboy/rancher vibe. She was also a barrel racer which I loved seeing that aspect in the book.
So her dad is this really rich guy coming into this small town and trying to start a resort, she (Hailey) kind of first stays out of it does her own thing. She is definitely neglected by her parents you can tell by them not ever attending her races and her dad just wants to use her for business and buy her love. At one of these races is where she meets Weston(MMC) and once he finds out who she is instantly hates her because of her dad. They hate each other but of course have this instant attraction and end up at the same places because of racing. She ends up not agreeing with what her dad is doing so she leaves and essentially is cut off from her dad’s money and ends up on Weston’s ranch. The tension is thick. There are a lot of twists and turns and I definitely didn’t expect the end. Overall great read and I recommend.

Thank you Harper Quinn for my copy of Ace of Spades. 🤍 I received this book for review, all opinions are my own and given freely.
Screaming happy release day to Harper Quinn for this absolute knock out of a debut! Ace of Spades checked all the boxes for me. I was hooked from the first chapter. I really loved both main characters, Hailey + Weston. I loved their slow burn, enemies to lovers story. The chemistry between them was palpable from the time they met in a bar in the beginning! The banter between them was also the perfect touch! The suspense plot held my attention and I really enjoyed everything about the way this book was written. The tropes were all pulled off wonderfully including found family, forced proximity, small town + not just one rodeo star but 2! I can’t say it enough, this debut was incredible. It was the perfect foundation for the series + I cannot wait for what’s to come.
WOW. I simply don’t have the words for how good this book was. i was lucky enough to be an arc reader and after reading it, im shocked that this is Harper Quinn’s debut novel. everything about this book was great. the romance, the tension, the spice 🥵, the found family aspect, the suspense! i am such a sucker for a foul mouthed cowboy and weston langford met all the expectations. i also related to Hailey so much, and i loved her. i also can’t wait to read more about Dakota and Chance (hopefully) 😏 all in all, this is a must read for fans of a good cowboy romance with all the good tropes like enemies to lovers and found family. 10/10 would read again.

Ace of Spades by Harper Quinn delivers everything you could want in an enemies-to-lovers cowboy romance—sharp banter, sizzling chemistry, and a heartwarming dose of found family. Hailey and Weston’s dynamic is electric from the start, with their mutual dislike slowly unraveling into undeniable attraction. I loved the rodeo backdrop, which added an authentic and exciting edge to the story, and the character development kept me fully invested from beginning to end. The blend of humor, heart, and heat made this a page-turner, and the small-town charm sealed it as a new favorite. Perfect for romance fans who love sass, steam, and cowboys with stubborn hearts.
This book wasn’t that bad, but I did feel a little bit lost. First, I know a most nothing about rodeos/ranches, and it’s usually not a problem reading “cowboy romances”. However, this book made me feel like I was missing a lot of relevant information in the rodeo scenes. Second, I felt like I had missed the introduction of a lot of these characters. I would’ve understood if this was the second or third in the series, but I didn’t feel like there was enough background for this to be the introduction to a new series. There also wasn’t a ton of Hailey and Weston together. I liked the characters enough, but I couldn’t really see the chemistry. For a debit book, it really wasn’t bad.
I was looking for a cowboy romance outside of the typical city girl running to the country to escape a cheating ex. So when I came across this one where they were both rodeo stars, I was intrigued. I am so glad I gave it a chance. I really enjoyed the main characters and the interactions with their friends. One of my biggest pet peeves with cowboy romances is them not actually doing cowboy stuff. 😆 This author either grew up with horses and the rodeo world or seriously did her research. It’s not perfect and there are some editing issues but the fact that this is a debut book I’m impressed. Very much looking forward to reading more by this author.
Cowboys just do it for me honestly I can never hate a cowboy romance! I loved this book, I loved the sassiness of Hailey and how she kept the boys on their toes and didn’t take no for an answer haha
Weston 🥰♥️🥵 what a man! I loved him and his protectiveness of those he cares about and then spice was spicing!!
Enemies to lovers Bronc rider/barrel racer Suspense Found family
I can’t wait to see where this series goes! Thank you so much Harper Quinn for the chance to read your eARC! Such a great debut novel
This is one of the best cowboy romance books I've ever read. I finished in one day as the words just flowed so beautifully. We all love a good enemies to lovers trope and, that is exactly what Wes and Hails are. He is the definition of cowboy energy with the respect of a gentleman. And that dirty mouth during spicy scenes 🔥 🥵 He cooks her breakfast like a princess too! I can't recommend this book enough! Harper I will read anything you write queen! I hope we get a book for Kota and Chance soon!
[3/5] Cute cowboy romance. The playboy turned committed, lover boy. The book jumps right into the story, and I love meeting all of the main characters within the first few pages.
It’s a classic enemies-to-lovers small-town spicy romance that makes me swoon. It’s cheesy, it’s funny and it has all the elements for a feel-good rodeo romance.
While it’s not my favorite, and there are parts that definitely made me cringe, I enjoy Weston Langford [28] and Hailey Sorrels on-page. They’re both stubborn and have a playful banter/ rivalry that is fun to experience.
Cute? Absolutely. Sweet? Yup. Spicy? Ohhhhh when it hits it hits hard!
These 2 hate each other for the longest time and then...they just cant anymore and oh its so good! It starts off a bit slow but picks up about 1/3 of the way into it. There is rodeo, family drama, a touch of suspense and so much laughter. And the spice between Wes and Hailey is worth the wait!
Highly recommend this one for a fun cowboy read! Its an awesome debut novel and I cant wait for the next one!
Hailey and Weston this story was everything for me . If you love a cowboy romance and enemies to lovers forced proximity and friend group this one Is it!
They start off disliking one another so much because of a family member of Hailey’s her dad. He decides he wants to buy land and he intends to make some changes. Weston dislikes her because if things her father is doing but he doesn’t realize that she doesn’t know what all is happening . When it comes in a moment. Hailey finds out leaves and ends up on the last person you would ever think ranch.. Hailey is stubborn but Weston knows what he wants and who he is . This was a very good book and read it felt fast paced for me ! Thank you Harper Quinn for this amazing book ❤️!
