Olivia I'm running from my past. I came too close to getting caught. Now, I'm dating a boring man, living a boring life, trying to fly under the radar. But somehow, I've attracted the attention of a stalker, and he threatens the security I've built as he tempts me to the dark side. He invited me to a sex club on Halloween, where he promised to reveal his identity. I didn't know how close he had been the entire time. Or how much I'd love how dark we can be together.
Kieran My brother's girlfriend should be the last person I want, but once I set eyes on her, she's mine. He doesn't treat her right. She should be lucky I'm stalking her, finding a way to be close to her every night. I could give her the world if she let me. I know there's something sinister beneath her facade. Something dark about her that my brother could never appreciate. And then my friend from Texas sends a photo of a female serial killer they're tracking down...and imagine my surprise when it's none other than the girl I invited to have a masked night with on Halloween. One night is all I need to convince her to be mine forever and get rid of my brother together. After all, two serial killers who kill bad men are the perfect couple.
Only In The Dark is a dark Halloween novella about two serial killers. It contains plenty of explicit and graphic content not suitable for people under the age of 18. Please read the trigger warnings before diving in.
As soon as I heard the plot of this story, I knew I needed to read it. I was not disappointed at all. There is a great mixture of plot as there is spice. It is the type of book you really need to check your trigger warnings before reading ahead. I loved Olivia and Kieran together, she could finally be her true self and thats what she needed all along. It is a great quick read for the spooky season upon us.
This was the perfect little novella read to start off spooky season. I love both of the main characters in this book. Both characters seem like normal everyday people until you really get to know them. My only bad thing to say about this book is I wish it were longer and we had more time with both of these main characters! This is my first Ashley Reyes book and I will definitely be reading books from her backlog!
Who needs a love like Johnny and June when you can have one like Kieran and Olivia with a dash of murder induced spice? I could not put this book down! Also, how does one find a grocery providing stalker?!
As a sucker for serial killers + stalker tropes, this book does those well!
Okayy so no before you guys panic, they only kill bad evil people, not the innocent or random, okay? Like killing the pedo, the wealthy evil and whatnot that hardly get down through justice system, those that always get free because they have the money and connection and more, yeah that. So yes that kind of serial killers killing are alright with me.
So, this book started with Olivia, a seemingly good, naive girl that unfortunately stay with such a dickhead boyfriend, which then turns out to be way more ughh. At the same time, she’s been stalked with a mystery guy who are obsessed with her, not to hurt her, but protective and sweet with her too.
In the beginning, I feel like the story is almost similar with other books that have the same kind of tropes, but as the plot goes on, it doesn’t feel annoying or anything as their story went broader and tap into the characters backstory much deeper. It goes well and I become more in love with both fmc and mmc as well as the fmc bestie, and invested indeed with the plot growth. I love how the author did her best to include some important detailing in their killing such as the poisons that they use, how they killed and all. It’s not too detailed, but enough to say it’s not too vague as well. I love as much gory as they can get in a book, this one is just light for me, but better than nothing at all, really. Oh as usual, do check for tw if you’re a sensitive reader, as this is a dark romance book.
The ending is good as well, and there’s this one scene towards the ending that is so refreshing to see, Kieran definitely wowed me and damn, they both are great together indeed. I think this is the first that I found that exact scene but w fmc doing it to mmc instead of usually in mm books hehe. So good job for that! As for the spice, it’s okay w me, not too much, just nice with and as the story goes.
Overall, I do enjoy reading this book. If there ever will be more book next about Olivia & Kieran, hell yes I want to read them! Thanks for the ARC in exchange for my honest review 🖤🖤
My first arc read 😍😍😍😍 this one is for the dark romance smut peeps 😍😍😍 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶 This one was a quick little read but so good ! I loved the story line with the characters and at the end how it all ties together And the SPICE guys OMG 🥵🥵🥵 I hope we get more of them in the future!! Some spooky vibes for the spooky season too we love a good halloween book 😍👻 10/10 recommend it I could not put it down!! I hope I can read more of Ashley's books in the future 🥰🥰🥰 thank you Ashley for this opportunity 💕💕
Kieran starts off the book doing what he does best. Being a stalker. This book had be right from the beginning. It’s the perfect size novella for a palette clean between books or even series. Olivia I found witty and love how they end up meeting “for the first time”. Ashley has beautifully written an amazing story and I hope we get another novella with the two or main (Kieran & Olivia) or even a spinoff with Olivia’s best friend Sarah! I fully rate this 5/5!
SPOILERS AHEAD First, I want to thank the author for giving me an advanced copy of the book to read. I thought this story was a neat concept when I heard of it — 2 serial killers, one of which is a detective and looking for her? Love it. And he’s a stalker? Amazing. It was a really cool idea. The beginning where our stalker MMC Kieran was watching FMC Olivia was really well done. And of course the spicy scenes were great lol.
Now, there were some parts I wasn’t a fan of. First, I was a bit confused by Sarah. She is very protective of her friend, even rushes to her house with a baseball bat, but when Olivia tells her about her first sexual encounter with the stalker, she’s just sort of nonchalant about it. Idk it just didn’t make sense to me personally for her character to act that way. The whole part of backstory where she kills Mother and tells Daniel about it seemed very rushed to me. There were some moments of inconsistencies, like when Kieran’s expression “turns into a snarl,” but he’s supposed to be wearing a mask, so how would she know that? Then, he mentions being called the Cocktail Killer, but he mentions it so late into the story that I forgot he was even a serial killer. I think this would’ve worked better as a longer story to really flesh these things out and let us know these characters more clearly.
Overall, I do love a good masked man, and a slasher plot is always fun.

I was given this book as an arc from the beautiful Author, and I absolutely loved it, it had everything, stalking, banter, a bit of gore, this book reminded me of driving my obsessions by lauren biel, it was an amazing book and so glad I was able to get my hands on it, I highly recommend it. This book is releasing or publication date is October 13 I believe
Who wouldn’t love to read about a serial killer and an obsessed stalker?!? This book has everything you’d want in a Dark Stalker Romance! I could have binged it in hours if life hadn’t gotten in the way. I was gripped by this story right away!
I will for sure be recommending this book to everyone!!
This short little novella was very interesting to say the least. I’m not a big dark romance reader so this was one of a very short list. While it was a good read and I enjoyed the story, I will say that some of the topics in this book were hard to read. I don’t feel like they are things that I will never read again but they are definitely not my thing haha. Overall, it was a good book and I think the FMC and the MMC were made for each other in a disturbing way haha!
This was the perfect dark romance with a touch of Halloween vibes! I loved the fast-moving, well-written plot. It is hard to write engaging characters, and Ashley nailed it. It was the perfect amount of mystery, spice, and definitely dark romance. Ummm, who doesn't love a thoughtful stalker...IYKYK.
absolutely amazing!!! yes I want a stalker who pays for my groceries hehe!!! but man to be Olivia and deal with what she does ugh being a dark romance girly.....yes please and thank you bahaha. but definitely a novella for the ages!!!
WOW! I almost have no words, talk about edge of your seat type of read! Legit did not want to put the book down! It wasn’t a super long read, but it was long enough to get me hooked! I definitely need more to this story!
I had the privilege of obtaining an ARC of this book. It is short, but so, so sinful! Olivia and Kieran are just *chef's kiss*. The book is filled with stalking, a little banter, and super spicy scenes. I binged this book in a few hours. It was hard to put down. 🥵😍
I’m speechless. I don’t even know where to start. I have no triggers, the dirtier the better and who doesn’t love a dark romance. GIRL, you nailed that 🫶 like oh my 👅🔥 i could not put the book down and I was shocked at every turn! Yall this is a MUST read!
This was a quick super spicy novella!! If you love masked men and possessive men in books then this book is for you!! I loved the book from start to finish!! I loved he wqs a thoughtful stalker and bought her groceries when she needed them. He even gave her dog treats!!
I loves this!!! I devoured this in one sitting. I literally stayed up just because I didn't want to put it down. If you like stalkers, bada$$, FMCs and revenge you definitely need to check this out!
I absolutely loved this book. It was such an easy book for me to read and drew me in so quick. I couldn’t put it down. I feel like there must be a sequel to this soon!!!
I received this as an arc thank you so much I did enjoy this book it is spicy and of course check your triggers. As it is a novella its short and to the point. Its a wild ride
Short, dark romance, novella, Halloween vibes, stalker... great book, taking your trauma and flip it to get revenge. I liked the banter between characters. The characters are a bit disturbed, so definitely check your triggers.
I received an advance review copy free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Only In The Dark by Ashley Reyes Release: 10/13/25 ~141pgs
Sex and murder. That's what you get with Olivia and Kieran. couples that slay together stay together. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who likes spice and murder.
I received this book as an ARC. So here is my HONEST review. The premise of the novella is extremely intriguing. Woman, running from her past and a masked stalker, dead set on having her, taking care of her and taking out any obstacles in his way to making her his. Simple and straight forward with some smut in there, I do understand some liberites also taken due to the length of the book, and we have a quick novella at our disposal, yes? Here's the hard part. I did NOT love this. It kills me to not give this a higher rating but here's why: Our FMC Olivia, albeit a strong independent woman, is overly trusting and not exactly careful if she is running from her own past. You do find out somethings about this past throughout the novella. Her on and off "fear" over her masked stalker, I find to be more of a mix of boredom/loneliness/overall lack of self preservation. Her best friend Sarah knowing her back story instigates meeting this man, but in the spirit of a good potential lay why not? Our MMC Kieran, the Cop and masked man who likes to spike her yea, break into her house so he can watch her and place a grocery delivery, is a bit of a conundrum. He comes off as completely unhinged and obsessed for absolutely no reason. It does take a few chapters to understand WHO he is and why he might have become obsessed with Olivia. His pet names are very closely related to some other romances/novels and it doesn't read very well with all of that coming together in this novella here. (Word play and usage is very similar to some other things that have currently been released. ) Fast forward, the spice is a little bit rushed but I also slightly cringed reading some of it. I'm no stranger to reading dark romance, as that is my preference, but the scenes could have been slowed down and accentuated a bit more before they ended. Our very feral unhinged pair end her ex boyfriend/his brother's meager life after Kieran proves he's hers in his sex club. Finding out some other pertinent information about her past, those things are also taken care of swiftly and without mercy (which is a nice touch)They rid off into the sunset and take over Mothers business of taking out the bad bad men who do bad bad things. However, as much as I didn't love this novella there are things I did like about it. The story line is intriguing. Was I consistently questioning what in the world was going on? Absolutely. She had a sad backstory with a traumatic past. Which made her the way she is. Did her ex deserve his Fate? Yes 100% agree that he did for what he did to her. That was beautiful poetic justice right there. Did Mother get what was coming to her? You bet! She is responsible for everything that led up to that specific moment in time. Daniel....was that justice served? I can't disagree. Maybe a bit extreme, but nonetheless also kind of poetic justice in the end. I do think this novella could actually have been turned into a full length novel. There is so much more that could have been added on to this that might have changed how i feel about it. This is just 1 persons opinion, but I think if you are curious about the novella you should read it for yourself. It is short and would not take anyone long to finish it. With that being said, I can see the direction this author is going in, and she has a great start. As always remember to check your trigger warning list as this is labeled as a Dark romance and some thi gs may not be okay for every reader.

I got an ARC copy of Only in the Dark in exchange for an honest review and I have to say, it was a quick read but juicy all the way around. From start to finish, it pulled me in and I ended up finishing it in a single sitting. Reyes set out to write a dark romance novella with a strong stalker vibe, and she nailed the atmosphere.
If I had one small gripe, it’s that a few plot points could have been expanded on further. At times I wanted a little more backstory or detail, especially around Olivia and the side characters. But given that this is a novella, I understand why the story moved quickly. The fast pacing works for what the book is meant to be, and it leaves the door open for more if Reyes ever decides to expand the world.
What I really enjoyed was how the stalker/obsession element created tension without feeling overdone. The blend of thriller-like suspense and dark romance worked well, and the spice hit near god-tier levels. Olivia came across as believable and layered, and I’d honestly love a whole book dedicated just to her backstory. That would make a fantastic spinoff if Reyes ever turns this into a series.
Overall, Only in the Dark is a short, sharp, and satisfying dark romance. It wraps up cleanly enough to feel complete, but still leaves just enough of an opening if Reyes chooses to continue. I’d recommend this one to readers who enjoy dark romance with heavier themes, and I can absolutely see myself re-reading it, especially around spooky season. I’ll definitely be picking up more from Reyes in the future.
I want to start off by thanking Ashley Reyes for allowing me to be an ARC reader for this book. Dark romance is a relatively new genre for me and I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to read this book!
We have a stalker. We have a serial killer. We have a detective brother. We have an insane backstory.
This book is a journey of escaping your past and not being able to forget who you were. The FMC starts off by trying to just live a normal and mundane life, unfortunately for her, situations arise that require a version of her past self to resurface. However, as her past comes back to her, she regains her power.
Don't let that fool you though. This book has some of the SPICIEST moments I have ever read in a book! It is not just some cutesy story of a woman reclaiming her power. It is a stalker romance with a serial killer backstory and lots of knife and blood play.
This was such a fun story to read from beginning to end. The only complaint I have is that I felt like it was too short. I love long books though so that is likely subjective! I just want more time to get invested into characters and I felt like I didn't get that opportunity here.
Overall, it was a great read. The bestie was so fun, the girlypop we all need in our life. The FMC had such an interesting backstory. The stalker romance had a unique spin on it. The dark themes were perfectly placed. The pacing of the book was smooth.
It is definitely worth the read and I will be reading it again soon!
