Lilly and her sexy beast of a werewolf partner Shayne make a great team working for the Peace Control Department. But when she tries to take on a rogue amarok on her own, things go terribly wrong, and she is left with an agonizing choice between dying and becoming a despised amarok herself. When Shayne makes the choice for her, she has to come to terms with what she is, and her feelings for Shayne, before facing off against the creature that changed her life forever.
Yelena Casale is an award-winning author of urban fantasy and paranormal romance. Yelena was born in Kiev, Ukraine and moved to New York at 13. Being very curious and inquisitive, she has been a devoted reader and writer since childhood. As a 2nd degree black belt and instructor in Shotokan karate, an avid traveler and history and art enthusiast, she weaves universal themes with martial arts philosophies into her stories. She lives with her amazing, super supportive husband and the best Siamese cat. In her spare time, she reads, paints, watches cool shows on TV and tries to get more sleep. Like the samurai of the old, as well as the ultimate Renaissance man and Yelena's favorite historical figure, Leonardo da Vinci, she believes that nothing is greater than mastery of oneself.
Characters romance style and sarcasm I do enjoy. As this book is quite easy to read, has the usual love hate relationships but also of friendship and caring which is a bit unusual when a shift changer is trying to save their local town from Amarok's who bite trekking young innocent girls who think they have no other choice waiting for superwoman to help them out of every situation. I sometimes think being type cast as these books tend to follow the same trend.
I understand that this is a short story so it will lack the complexity of a full length novel. That being said, I was hoping for a bit more exposition or character introduction. The plot moved too quickly for me to keep up and I had no vested interest in the characters since I didn't know anything about them beyond their names.
this is a short so be prepared for that. not an epic amount of time to delve into characters and history and plot. that being said i loved what i read and i will most definitely read the series that follows.
Amarok's Bite is a short story, so expect things to move very quickly, with the backstory skimmed over, and all will be well. You will get an introduction into Lilly and Shayne's world, complete with bitchy ex who wants Shayne back, along with just what an Amarok is, and what it means to become one.
Although I don't usually like short stories, I prefer something to get my teeth into, I did enjoy this one; simply because it manages to still give you a lot in just a few short pages. What this story DID do though, is give me a taste of how Yelena Casale writes, and because of this, I will certainly be keeping an eye out for her in the future. Definitely recommended by me.
