I should have belonged to Rowan Forge forever. A vampire king’s fated mate—then I fled, to save my clan. Now I’m back, but claiming the males love might be impossible.
The High Council is hunting me.
Battle lines are being drawn because of the terrible secret I’m hiding. Darrow and Finn have sworn to protect me, but my mate…Rowan will never forgive me for my betrayal. As my dark magic grows stronger, our enemies circle closer, planning to use me as their weapon in this coming war.
To survive, we’ll have to trust each other and outwit the sadistic council, or every vampire on earth will be enslaved.
I always feared my past sins would come back to haunt me, but nothing prepared me for why the council was hunting me in the first place, and the shocking answer could destroy everything—and everyone—I love.
** Ruthless Liege is a #whychoose vampire romance featuring revenge, enemies to lovers snark, forbidden love, touch her and you die vibes, hot villains, fated mates, morally gray men and a king who’s finally met his match.
Fueled by black coffee, ice cream and bad nineties music, L.A. McGinnis spends her days writing best-selling steamy fantasies filled with damaged heroes who long to be whole and smart, authentic heroines. A life-long fascination with storytelling inspired her to weave these contemporary tales of legendary fated mates where the princess never needs rescuing, but sometimes the hero does.
We have a winner!!!! Ruthless Liege is the second book in the Shadowsend vampire series and it was Outstanding!!!!! L.A. McGinnis is a phenomenal writer and her vampires amazingly hot and primal !!! This world McGinnis paints is so beautiful detailed that you believe these beautiful and deadly creatures actual are real. The characters are complexed and full of angst and driving passion. If I had to pick just one character I couldn't do it! They all have different personalities and are equally intriguing! The Shadowsend clan vampires Rowan,Darrow,Finn are simply fucking irresistible and my favorite and most dangerous of them all Nikolai, a vampire elder who has lived for 2 thousand years and who is a master manipulator, it would be hard to pick just one! Like Aisling I have the hornies for all these vamps!!!! In Ruthless Liege Aisling and King Rowan are dancing around each other fighting the pull of their mating bond and the need for each other and if they do Nikolai has threatened them both separately with death of one another and those they love! Secrets will come out that change this group of lovers and if that isn't enough Zachariah has made it his mission to totally destroy anyone or anything that stands in the way of his revenge against Aisling! He will make her pay for what she did to him and his brother!!! What a ride this book was!!! Fast paced and full of steamy stolen moments and the new introduction of not one but 3 new characters!!! Vampires and hot sex!! It doesn't get any better then that!!! I'm so glad I found this writer on Tik Tok and watched her video's!!!! L.A. McGinnis is hands down one of my new favorite vampire romance writers!!!!! And she has many other vampire romance books that I'm just dying to read!! Check her out if you love your bad boys with a little fang! I know I do!! Until next time Luv's💕💋
Girl, honestly, I didn't like it, all the characters are worthless, Ash got on my nerves most of the book, she so pick me girl, damn, the boys are annoying and idiots, they treat her as if she were a breakable doll, very dramatic, I stayed for Nikolai I have a soft spot for sexy villains who deep down are good people, who is more exciting to read than the main characters, it turns out that in this book he was very apparent in relation to Ash, and I'm going to book 3 just for him.
Amazing second to this series!!! This was so good! This story sucks you in and doesn't let go until the end. I want the next one now!!! The world building, the characters, the storyline are unique and amazing! This is turning out to be one of my favorite authors. This story has dark and gory moments in case that bothers you. There is lots if chemistry and steamy moments. Nikolai is a deep character, that I love to see unfolding, and I want him to be part of the harem, guess I'll have to read the next one to see. This one leaves you at a good stopping point for the next(which I prefer), and not a huge gasping cliff hanger. This is an amazing read that I received as an ARC, but I will be purchasing for my collection.
This is definitely a new favorite author for me! I’m enjoying this series so much!
It RH Paranormal Romance, vampires, and it’s full of adventure, magic and very steamy scenes!! This is an amazing second book!! I think I might like it a bit more than the first, and I loved the first book!!
Aisling is AMAZING!!! She is powerful and loved. Rowan, her mate. Finn, her soldier. Darrow, her assassin. She is the center of their world. But together they fight to save their kingdom! I wonder if Nickolai will become part of their family.
There are so many characters that come in to play. The Elders, the Council, and all their soldiers. Aisling and her men have a fight on their hands, will they make it or be torn apart? It is quite the ride!!
I’m so in love with these characters and I look forward to book three, Dark Redemption!! I highly recommend this series if you enjoy RH Paranormal Romance!!!
After reading the first book in the Shadowsend Vampire Clan series, Blood Claimed as an ARC by mere chance I was hooked by L.A. McGinnis and her world building. Ruthless Liege was no different and picks up right where we left off with Ash trying to learn how to wield her immense power and the men around her who will love and protect her no matter what. This book had much more focus on Nikolai’s backstory which I really enjoyed. I once again lost sleep pouring through this book. To say these characters, have a chokehold on me is an understatement! L.A. McGinnis is so talented and while I am fortunate enough to be an ARC reader, I cannot wait to own this entire paperback set when the fourth book is finished because this series, I will re-read over and over!
As an ARC reader I am voluntarily leaving my review. As an ARC reader who has also pre-ordered them on Kindle, that should say a lot about how I feel about this series!
Breakfast lunch and dinner? I AM SCREAMING I and over the moon she has them all the mate bond is in play but I am toooooo excited to see where her relationship with nik goes from here, while I did want wolf in on it too I’m kinda excited for his and scars story 🥹
The plot is just amazing her books are plot with a side of spice where the spice level is like a frickin scoville scale but the plot is still PLOTTING! I love the story the growth from the fmc how sassy and true to herself she is how she doesn’t let anyone save her BUT she’s also not scared to ask for help! She said something like ‘taking out one evil for another to take its place’ and I felt that in my soul for her! Ash will rule the world I can’t wait for her to be so broken that she finally snaps and burns the world to save it
Aisling's determination to move from pawn to key player in the deadly warfare that threatens Shadowsend vampire clan is laudable. It proves astonishingly difficult. Still unsure who is friend or foe, whether her mate loves or loathes her, and how her new-found magic can be anything but destructive, Ash does the only thing she knows how to do - she wings it. She takes advantage of every opportunity to learn from whomever is willing to teach her. Her reward is increasing control, power, and the will to use both. She isn't the only one: Rowan, the clan's new and untried King, must also move from puppet to powerful ruler. His struggle to master his royal role, claim true kingship, and unite his clan, includes a final decision on Aisling, his unclaimed mate. This dizzyingly paced story of dual personal metamorphosis sees remarkable growth in Rowan and Ash. Theirs is a steamy and peril-fraught romance. Complicated by death threats, missed clues, and an established menage à trois (Ash, Finn and Darrow), it is nonetheless a journey to freedom of a sort. The terror and bloody violence against Shadowsend escalates, as certain of the Elders, the Council and its vicious mercenary allies, and even recalcitrant minor clan factions attempt to eliminate Rowan's kingdom and enslave Ash's ever-more powerful magic to their own nefarious ends. The gripping, near-disaster magic duels, bloody feints, hair's breadth escapes, and new revelations about key players, all occur at breakneck pace. Ash and Rowan learn a great deal in this complicated and terrifying process. Each realizes at last what they value most, how far they will go to preserve and protect it, and how the means employed must be forgiven when there is no other choice. So, there is resolution of a sort in this harrowing tale: something of rescue, redemption, and completion. And enough puzzle pieces fall into place that Shadowsend's beleaguered rulers at last perceive their true enemy, and their ultimate destruction if he wins. How they may circumvent that annihilation is another story, one for the next chapter in this vividly imagined, emotionally volatile, horrifically addictive epic of vampire survival.
Ruthless Liege is a thrilling continuation of the Shadowsend Vampire Clan series, raising the stakes with even more action, romance, and political intrigue. L.A. McGinnis expands on the dark, immersive world she introduced in Blood Claimed, delivering a story packed with tension, betrayal, and undeniable passion.
What I Loved:
- Aisling’s Continued Growth: Aisling truly comes into her own in this book. After the tumultuous reunion with Rowan, Darrow, and Finn, she’s no longer just surviving—she’s fighting back. Her evolution from an outcast to a powerful force within the clan is incredibly satisfying. She’s resilient, intelligent, and unwilling to be a pawn in anyone’s game.
- Intensified Romance & Redemption: Any misunderstandings between Rowan and Aisling are cleared up by page 90. While Rowan has much to make up for, his slow redemption arc is handled beautifully. Darrow’s unwavering loyalty continues to be a highlight, and Finn steps more fully into his role, creating an even more complicated and emotionally charged dynamic between them all. The chemistry is electric, and the slow-burn relationships feel earned and deeply rewarding.
- Intrigue & Political Machinations: The Shadowsend Clan’s struggles are far from over. The politics of vampire society become even more layered, with shifting alliances and dangerous enemies lurking in the background. Nikolai remains an enigmatic, formidable presence, and the question of who Aisling can truly trust keeps the tension high.
- Action & Twists: This book does not slow down! From intense battles to shocking revelations, there’s never a dull moment. The mystery surrounding Aisling’s powers deepens, and as more pieces fall into place, the sense of looming danger keeps the pages turning.
- The "Other Woman" Arc: As teased in book one, the OW drama is handled in a refreshingly mature way. Rather than being a source of unnecessary angst, it evolves into a meaningful alliance—something I wish more books would do!
The following are ratings out of 5: Spice: 3.5 World-Building: 3.5 Character Development: 4.0 Story/Plot: 4.0 OVERALL RATING: 4.00
Pace: Fast Diverse Cast of Characters? Yes! Flaws of characters a main focus? No.
- This is the second book of what is looking to be a trilogy. I really enjoyed this book, but i just felt like it was missing something. The author did a good job of building this world in the first book, and there was some additional building in this book as well, but it was more Plot and character driven. There is quite a bit of action, and i liked how the characters depended on each other for a show of power.
SPOILERS: My problem with the show of power, it seemed the battle against Zachariah and Orpheus seemed too easily won. I was waiting for Ailsing to have a better act of redemption, not only for her, but the prisoners. However, it was still a pretty badass show of force.
- The character development was fantastic and each individual had their own unique personalities. The first book had a few descriptions of the characters appearance, but this one did not, so it was harder for me to track/imagine which each character looked like.
- While there was a decent amount of spice, my prior Why Choose and Erotica romance exposure put this in the midrange of Spice, however, others may rate it higher in the chili pepper spectrum. This being said, I think the third book is going to be a scorcher!!

I think I need to re-read the first book as I don’t remember anything except the soul jars. None of the characters seem familiar. I hate it when this happens. I’m going to finish this book first in the hope that something will ring a bell.
Just checked and I’ve read 61 books since Blood Claimed, Shadowsend Vampire Clan: 1 and I know at least one was an anthology of 20 short stories. My point being it’s no wonder I can’t remember. I’m a little over halfway through book 2 and although I’m enjoying it, I still would like a better grasp of the overall plot.
So, now that I’m finished reading book 2 I am going to re-read the first book. I did like this and how things are working out for the good guys. Ash is really coming into her own with her magic. It will be interesting to see her battle the oldest (eldest?) Elder. Hopefully they’ll be able to recruit some of the others to help defeat him.
I think the main clarification for me after re-reading book 1 is how Nikolai’s goal has changed from his initial contact with Ash. He started out on board with having her become Acheron’s bride and taking over the world. After being exposed to her he has started to develop feelings and he is no longer gung ho about turning her over to Acheron.
Note: this is the second book of the series and must be read after the first, it is not a stand-alone and picks up from where book 1 ends!
This second installment of the series comes right at you! From the get go, the reader is thrown right into the action and it’s impossible to put this read down! A lot happens in this second installment and it is imperative to read the first book prior.
The storyline in this series is exiting, intense and a thriller of a ride! Despite it being fast paced and action packed, it is still easy to follow and keeps the reader on the edge of their seat!
The development of characters and the world building leaves one feeling a whole mess of emotions, and this is just such a fantastic series to read! This installment contains banter, heart-wrenching discoveries, humor, spice, action and is a fantastically rounded story with some very satisfying conclusions.
Note: this is an ongoing story so the conclusion in this book is not the end, the next installment will follow on this!
I’m fortunate enough to have obtained a copy through booksirens and willingly leave this honest review.
🖤 Touch her and ☠️ 🖤 Vampires 🖤 Paranormal romance 🖤 Enemies to lovers
After reading Blood Claimed I immediately had to jump into this second book to find out what happened at the end of book one. Just like blood claimed this book blew my mind in the best way but even better than I could have imagined.
Aisling is an amazing FMC, if you thought she was badass in the first book wait until this one🤩. Finn, her solider. Darrow, her assassin. Rowan, her mate. The three of them are an unstoppable force with so much love between the three. The spice in these are out of this world & keep getting better & better🥵🔥
I absolutely love Nickolai and I constantly keep wondering if he may become part of their little family. Personally I have loved Nickolai since the first book & knowing his past makes me love him even more. I want to see more of both Wolf & Dravin and where they go from here.
There is so many moving parts to this story with characters: the elders, the council, all of their soldiers, other clan leaders, their sires, etc.
I absolutely cannot wait to dive right into book three, Dark Redemption🤩

This is the second book in the Shadows End series. The book continues to be fast paced and filled with violence, political drama, and magical destruction. This book does have darker threatened violence and ongoing battles. The relationships continue to develop despite the harsh reality and the characters are put in challenging situation after challenging situation. The scenes between characters are definitely hotter than the first book as the characters grow closer.
This universe is really fascinating. The way magic, power structures, and vampires exist keeps your attention. The majority of the characters are on the younger end of the spectrum 25-30 and are having to go against vampires who are hundreds to thousands of years old. The book ends on a cliffhanger. Will they be able to save the world from evil?
This book had quite a lot of typos which did take away from some of the joy of reading. I did receive it as an ARC so that may be resolved.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I have been a huge fan of L. A. McGinnis for a few years now, mainly because she never disappoints as proven by Ruthless Liege, the second book in her Shadowsend Vampire Clan series. Ash is settling in nicely with Finn and Darrow but things with her mate, Rowen, is,shall we say, tense, cold, okay-decidedly frosty. There’s also the Elder Nickolai mucking up the works with his heavy handed, control freak personality as he tries to help/force Ash to learn to harness her power. Oh, and there’s the little matter of the head of the Council trying to snatch her. And that’s just the easy stuff!
McGinnis has this rare ability to keep you engaged through every page of her books from witty banter to heart pounding action. You love the heroes and hate the villains. And occasionally, there will be a bad guy who might not be as bad as you originally thought.
Do yourself a big favor and read this series. Then be smart and pre-order the next book so you don’t have to remember to do it later.
Ruthless Liege is the second book in the series and things are getting even more complicated for Ash, Rowan Finn and Darrow. I am loving the plot, the characters, the masterful manipulations, the cunning games and the suspense that the unknown variables carry. L.A. Macginnis has written a superb vampire paranormal romance, one that keeps you glued to the pages and allows you to completely immerse yourself in the story. Just when I thought that things will start to settle down, new information comes to light that may change the FMC's entire perspective. As Ash is attempting to control her magic, she also plays push and pull with Rowan. This hot and cold moments have kept me on edge for sure. I am still curious to see how Nikolai plays in all of this though I do have my suspicions. The gravity of the looming dangers is inevitable and considering the fact that there still are some secrets being hidden alongside some unknown key players, I am anxious to see how Aisling and her companions will tackle the obstacles along the way. Brilliant series so far!
Will she rise to the challenge and learn to wield her power? Following on from Book 1 (Blood Claimed) Aisling is trying desperately to be able to wield her power if she has any chance of surviving Zachariah’s attacks and kidnapping her again. Nikolai, the Elder, offers to teach her but at what price? While her men desperately try to keep her safe. Someone she doesn’t trust shows their vulnerable side and could possibly be her ally, depending on her actions. This is a fast paced story where there is so much action going on causing danger to everyone plus magic and evil threats coming from all areas of her life. From crazed council members, to evil Elders and nasty underground creatures along with steamy scenes between Aisling and her men this story was awesome. It kept me engaged and wondering just what was going to happen next. I thoroughly enjoyed it and recommend reading it. Looking forward to reading the next book. I received a copy from the author for my honest review.
The second book is jam-packed with danger, obsession, and magic. Aisling can't believe her mate has already broken his word to her and scuttled back to Scarlett. At least she still has Darrow and Finn. If only she could get rid of Nikolai, but the Elder seems determined to make her life miserable with his demands that she get control of her magic - like she didn't want the same thing. Then there are the unexpected trips to creepy places where she comes close to dying. Grrr. An unexpected encounter with Rowan when she is weak and needs to feed will provide some answers and even more questions as to what Nikolai is up to. Throw in Zachariah's obsession with having her back in his clutches - and you have a recipe for disaster. Not to mention what Ash has finally figured out about how her magic works...
Can't wait to see what happens next. I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author. My review is voluntary.
I so enjoyed book 1 of this series and not disappointed, in fact surprised and delighted it exceeded the enjoyment of first book and hooked to want to jump into next adventure and read book 3. The chemistry between Ash and her three beaus is a great mix of fun, humour, friendship, sexual chemistry and true bonding of four people drawn together and forged in childhood emerging stronger and when needed in adulthood. I think Finn may be my favourite with their banter and wicked sense of humour with Dar and Rowan very close behind. Nikolai is an intriguing and curious character of whether is truly an ally as he has selfish means beneath it all. A truly enjoyable page turner and with Ash as the lead in a great strong female warrior heroine I feel she is channelling the great Queen Maeve of Irish folk legend and wonder if her true mother harks back to this great queen inspiration. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This story just gets better and better. If you love PNR, especially why-choose, you will love this series. The clan is under new leadership after their previous queen was assassinated and they are being tried from multiple angles. Aisling is now coming into her own and has more control over her power that had been suppressed her whole life. Rowen’s alpha tendencies are coming out to play. Darrow has his own secret that comes to light and Finn continues to protect everyone he loves with an endless passion. There is so much action throughout this series that keeps us engaged and there is never a dull moment. I love when a book in a series ends with equal parts closure and cliffhanger and this one does just that. I feel like it’s ended well, with a lot of questions wrapped up but also with enough open-ended to keep me salivating for the next book! Can’t wait!!!
I’ve read several L.A.McGinnis books, all better than the last. I don’t know how she keeps everything so exciting and new but I love her books! She is an amazing author. This book is no exception, you need to read Blood Claimed first. The characters in this book will get your interest immediately. The angst, the unrequited love, fear, desire. It’s all in here and you won’t be able to put it down. Each situation is more complicated then the next and Ash is learning to control her powers which seem to keep expanding out of control. Nikolai is more demanding and cruel, Finn and Darrow are constantly on the move and ready to defend Ash and finally, the King, Rowan is coming into his own. The four of them are bracing for the next war comic their way and I can’t wait to read it! This book is smoldering hot and I couldn’t get enough. I happily read an ARC and am leaving this review.
If you loved book one, buckle up because this ride is just as wild!
This time around, Ash's world is a powder keg of tension, with enemies lurking and drama galore. And let's not forget the lust'fest between her and not one, not two, but three swoon-worthy guys - Rowan, Finn, and Darrow. Talk about complicated love triangles! Quadrangles?
But wait, there's more: who can forget Nikolai, the brooding stormcloud himself. Let's be honest, we all want him and Ash to bone!.
With new characters appearing and secrets threatening to unravel, "Ruthless Liege" keeps you guessing until the very end.
Oh, and did I mention the steamy scenes? Let's just say they don't disappoint! *cough* 4sum *cough*
I can't wait to sink my teeth into the next book! ;)
I received a review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
** Cliffhanger Warning! ** I love this second book in the Shadowsend Vampire Clan series. It's a fantasy, reverse harem romance with vampires who wield magic. Just like the other vampire clan series, there's plenty of fast-paced action, suspense, battles, steamy scenes, and an evil villain or three.
I enjoyed the plot twists and turns that kept popping up like Dracula in his coffin. There are a few little things that are nods to the really old school vampires, especially since this series takes place entirely in Europe (so far).
The heroes are all fascinating, and I want to know more about this evil club of Ancients. There's a lot of breadcrumbs to follow, and I look forward to the next one to drop.
I'm excited to read the next book in this vamp-alicious series!
Wonderful read, great character and wonderful scenario that I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of
The battle lines are drawn and Darrow and Finn are sworn to see to my safety however, Rowan my mate refuses to forget the supposed betrayal and as the enemies’ close ranks.
If they are going to make it they have to begin to start to trust each other, without this simple commodity there is no way they will succeed and the earth will be overtaken by vampires without a doubt.
I guarantee that you will love this wonderful story and will be left waiting to discover what will happen in future books.
I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read. I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.
After being completely hooked by book 1, ruthless liege does not disappoint!
To see Ash grow and develop her skills and her confidence, standing up for what she believes in and saying no when needed is such a breath of fresh air for a leading lady in books.
Nikolia is still my favourite of the guys as the morally grey villain, doing what he needs to so he can get what he wants.
I absolutely cannot wait until book 3 of the series is released, I'm not even joking that I preordered as soon as I finished this one.
Fabulous work from L.A McGinnis. It deserves all the love it has.
I love this series and basically all the series by L.A. McGinnis! Ash and Rowan can’t seem to catch a break in this book! definitely a slow burn that promises some great spice. The chemistry between all of the main characters is explosive and dynamic. I love Finn and Darrow and how loyal they are (with all the added spice). We finally get some insight on Nikolai and his story through his POV and thoughts. I feel like I’ve changed my tune on him after hearing more of his history! He also has some more secrets that I can’t wait to learn! Lots of spice, so hot, more enemies and lots of power! Great series I definitely recommend. I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.
Love this book, this is the second book in this fantastic series. Picks up from the events of book one. The world building remains intricate and detailed and i love how plot heavy this book is, so many twists and turns and surprises balanced with a good dose of steam.
Aislinf remains a powerhouse in her own right and gets to learn more about and strengthen her abilities. Her relationship with the men is solidified even more and I wonder if Nikolai will join in too? They’re something very appealing about this grumpy broody vampire.
Can’t wait to see how the story progresses even further.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Book 2 delivers so much more. Ash and Rowan must keep their distance, but the exchange from book 1 that did not seem like much is given new light that has it as gut wrenching as Ash's refusal in the past.
The stakes are high and new enemies start to show themselves. The Finn, Ash and Darrow become a team, while Nikolai remains the wild card.
I enjoyed the visit from past characters and am enjoying the twists and turns. They are finally getting their feet under then and are ready to take on the next set of challenges. I cannot wait to see what happens next.

Ruthless Liege (Shadowsend Vampire Clan: Book 2) By L.A. McGinnis is absolutely fantastic. I could not put this book down. This book and series check all the right boxes! Aisling is an amazing female lead that you gravitate towards and cheer for. She has a lot to deal with as she is learning her powers and dealing with her mate. He definitely needs some warming up as he deals with their past. Then all the other men in the RH. All while they deal with the elders and so much more. I have wanted to read this series for awhile and I am so glad I finally did. I highly recommend it! In fact I already convinced one friend to read It!
Okay, I'm a jealous bitch so I hate when the author "redeems" the MMC's ex that he used to hurt the FMC and make her jealous. Why would you make her friendly with the FMC or worse, give her a bigger/more important role plus her own lover?! We hate her in book 1 and now you're showering her with compliments and making her important? Ugh. Fcking Scarlett.
Also, why make Aisling a true mate for Rowan and not Finn and Darrow's as well? The connection feels unequal - feels like a main guy plus side guys.
Anyways, the plot gets more complicated in this book but I loved how Aisling's control is definitely improving, a lot.

Book 2 of 4 in the Shadowsend Vampire Clan saga. These are not stand alone books and you need to read them in order to get the full benefit of this epic tale.
Paranormal romance dark, full of suspense, intrigue and a good side of spice. New villains and allies emerge to add to the possibilities. It’s a real page turner the pace never flags and the characters have depth.
Just loving this series and can definitely recommend.

I’ve read a few books by L A McGinnis and she is definitely on my Yes Please/Must Read list of authors now.
