A nice collection of essays providing an overview of life in Victorian England. I’ve done fairly extensive research of the era, and this book covered a lot of commonly-known facts, but I enjoyed the segment on Middle Class views on sexuality and the section exploring Penny Dreadfuls and the sometimes salacious subject matter they portrayed. Contrary to popular belief, the Victorians were *not* prudes!

I loved this book as a young teenager...I used to repeatedly check it out of the local library :-) But it's not really a book for entertainment. It's more of an excellent reference source for the beginning scholar in Victorian England.
