This was a solid 5 star read for me, though I wish I could give it 100+! 💖💖💖

This one has everything:

✔️ Marriage of Convenience
✔️ Second Chance
✔️ BFFs/Soulmates
✔️ Kick ass heroine
✔️ Awesome Hero
✔️ Angst
✔️ Humor
✔️ Sexy Times
✔️ Deep Love
✔️ Great Chemistry/Characters

I love the already marred/marriage of convenience/2nd chance trope. This one was done really well. Hero & heroine met when they both served in the Army. They became BFFs, lived together & married to save money and so that they could be stationed together. It was initially a marriage of convenience but deep down they both loved one another but were afraid to take the chance to become more – until they did and it all went downhill.

Heroine has had a lot of loss in her life. Everyone she cares about ends up dying and she is too afraid to take a risk with Hero in case she loses him too which she thinks she won’t be able to survive. When he gets shot, she rushes to his side and takes care of him. Hero lost a lot of his men in a gunfire and is heartbroken. They have one night together where they make love and he tells her he loves her but the next day heroine leaves him and tells him it was a mistake. He is heartbroken and cuts off contact with her.

It’s now 2 ½ years later and heroine is a private eye and he is a sheriff in his home town. He sends her divorce papers but she doesn’t sign them. She burns them instead and as she is working a case of a missing girl that is connected to a case that Hero worked before, she goes to see him in hopes they can make their relationship work but he is not very forgiving or welcoming. In fact, he tries to push her away and even says some cruel things at times because she hurt him deeply when she left him before and doesn’t trust that she won’t do it again. But both still love one another and they work to get back together.

In the interim, they are also trying to find out what is going on with missing & dead teen age girls. I am going to stop here before I give anything else away because for the first time ever, the romance & suspense in a story is equally written and I never once guessed who the bad guy was. But what happens at the 90-95% or so, had me sitting up all night to finish!!!

I saw a lot, Blake. I saw you broken and sad, but I never thought you would fuck me and then disappear. Not a fucking goodbye or explanation other than your bullshit note about a mistake, and you were right, it was.”

She flinches. “I had to leave, Emmett,” she says, shifting forward. “I had to go.”

I run my hand through my hair. “It doesn’t matter.”

“I think it does.”

“No, it doesn’t. You are who you are, and so am I. I want more. I want a family and a wife. I want to love someone who will love me back. I see what Spencer has and what Isaac had, and I want it. Sign the papers so we can be done and I can marry someone else.”

Her eyes widen. “Are you . . . dating someone?”

“Why do you care?”

Blakely places the pillow back. “Because I do.”

I could lie and say I am. “I’m not.”
--

Emmett claps him on the shoulder. “Did you frisk her before you cuffed her?”

“No, sir. She’s a tiny woman.”

“Who could’ve killed you,” I inform him. “I have just as much training as he does. I’m actually a higher belt than Emmett in Jiu-Jitsu. I took down men his size and bigger. Just because I have tits, it doesn’t make me less lethal. Right, pumpkin?”

“Blake,” Emmett warns.

“I actually got my brown belt last month. What color are you now?”

“I’m about to be red if you keep this up.”

I burst out laughing and continue on, this is fun. “I’m sorry, but your officers should be aware that women can, in fact, kill people.”

I’m a little disappointed in him, to be honest. I understand this is small-town USA, but criminals are criminals, no matter their gender. No one gives a fuck about your feelings when it comes to staying out of jail.

He ignores my comment and goes back to George. “I know you’ve only been on the force a few weeks, but we treat every suspect the same—man or woman. You happened to get my insane soon-to-be-ex-wife here, who isn’t lying when she says she’s just as skilled in combat as I am. Always use your training and don’t take risks.”

Emmett turns to me. “Seriously? Peeking in windows?”

“I knocked first.” I shrug because I will go to any lengths necessary to help my clients.
---

“You will never lie to me again. I don’t care if an army is marching upon us, you don’t lie to me.”
Emmett shakes his head. “Never. If an army is approaching, I’ll stand with you.”

“We’re a team, Emmett. And we have been to battle before. I am not afraid of a fight, but I don’t want to do it alone.”

“I love you, Blake. I love you more than anything in this world. I made a split-second decision, and the only thing I could think was that I needed to make sure you were safe. It was the best way I could think to make that happen.” He presses his lips to my forehead before leaning his forehead there. “Forgive me. Love me. Let me make this up to you.”

I melt because, as much as I want to chop his balls off, I also just want to kiss him.

So, I lift my face to his and rub my thumb along his scratchy cheek. “Not yet. I love you more than I should. And yes, you can make it up to me, you have a lot of work to do.”

Emmett smiles. “I can do work.”

“Good.”

“I’m going to kiss you, and you can grumble about it later.”

“I will.”
---

“I thought maybe you were just eager for me to move to Oregon.”

“I was that too.”

That makes me feel marginally better.

“But you had ulterior motives, dear husband.”

He keeps moving with the puppy and shrugs. “Yes, to keep you safe.”

Emmett has always been protective of me, and to some extent, I appreciate it. At least I allow him to think I need the protection because it seems to make him happy since he’s . . . such a big strong man. However, I have never been one to not call someone to the carpet either.
-------

“Don’t do that again, okay?”

I smile. “Do what?”

“Be the fucking hero.”

“Oh, is that your role?”

His lips flatten into a thin line. “One, yes, it is. Two, you could’ve gotten yourself killed. We were there to make sure that didn’t happen.”

“I didn’t know you were there, Emmett. I saw an opening and took it. You could just say: thank you, Blakely, for being a badass who did my job for me.”

“Did my . . . woman!”

I grin and lean in. “Say thank you.”

“I’m not saying it.”

“Say it.”

Emmett rolls his eyes. “Shut up.”

“You shut up.”

“I could make you.”

I like the sound of that. “With a kiss?”

He laughs. “Only you would go through getting kidnapped, shooting someone, and finding out about an organized trafficking ring and still want to be a pain in my ass.”

“It’s a gift,” I say with a shrug.

“How about we have some time without anyone trying to kill us?”

“That sounds nice, are you planning to retire?”

“Retire? Why the hell would I retire?”

“I don’t know, you’re bound to get shot at again,” I explain since he clearly forgot.

“I didn’t get shot at until you showed up.”

“Oh, sure, blame me.”

----

“Go to work.”

“I’d rather stay here and kiss you.” He does it again, and I laugh.

“You’re going to be late.”

“Let them fire me.” Emmett’s arms are tight around me as he brings us together again.

Silly, amazing, sexy, caring man.

“Then we’ll both be unemployed.”

He squeezes my butt. “That would be an issue.”

“It would. I need my sugar daddy to keep me happy.”

Emmett bursts out laughing. “You must be talking about someone else.”

“I am.”

“Oh? And what’s his name?”

I roll my eyes. “Daddy, duh.”

Corinne Michales has this way about her. She can make me cry, make me rage, and by the end leave me with a big smile on my face. This book did just that. After reading ‘Help Me Remember’ I was excited to get the next book from the Rose Canyon series. After reading this one, I’m dying for the next!

This was Emmett and Blakely’s story. These two had a marriage of convince when they were in the service together and they were really close friends. Then they fell in love and things got messy. It’s been a few years since they have seen each other and Blakely is in Emmett’s home town. The same town he’s the sheriff of and the same town where all of his closest friends live. And not a one of them knows he’s married.

Blakey is working a case and needs Emmett’s help. I like this side story going on throughout the series and I’m curious to see where it goes. Things went down in this book and got real, and for a second there I had to push pause on my book and take a few deep breaths. Of course there was a twist, which took me by surprise. Anyway I don’t want to spoil anything so I’ll just say check this one out if you’re a fan of second chance romances/friends to lovers/marriage of convince.

I really enjoyed this book and it's definitely my favorite in the series! This is a second chance romance, but most of the book focuses on the romantic suspense plot, which I absolutely loved. THE hero and heroine were really close friends in the military and had a marriage of convenience. When they finally got together, the heroine got scared and left. Now, she's in the small town the hero lives in and wants another chance. For me, the romance resolved a little too quickly since the plot shifted so much to the suspense. But since I loved the suspense so much, I didn't mind as much as I would have if the plot didn't go in their direction. I really enjoyed how everyone in town reacted to the hero having a wife and how they had to confront their own damage and trauma in order to trust each other again. So good!!!

"I don't want to be afraid anymore." "Then let me love you."

Ever since I read that one scene with Emmet & Blakely in Help Me Remember, I wanted to read their book so bad. And I admit that this couple has quickly become my favourite! This book has a badass military medic heroine who is afraid to love someone in the fear of losing them because she has already suffered so many loses in her life and a an ex-military now turned sheriff hero who would go to any lengths to keep her safe even when she left him (but he still loves her so much though he's a bit angry at her which was understandable). Emmet & Blake's love story with marriage of convenience was all consuming, full of action, mystery and suspense. It was one hell of a thrilling ride which I thoroughly enjoyed! I loved all the side characters including the original ones- Spencer, Brielle, Holden and some other new additions. I am hoping to see more of them in Corinne Michaels's future works because they were so well constructed and I want to learn more of their individual stories (especially Charlie). I won't giveaway the entire plot but the blurb is only the fraction of it. I was left shocked and surprised by the constant twists, which kept me engaged throughout. I adored Blake so much. She was mischievous, witty, smart and strong. And Emmett was just as playful, clever and drool worthy! They were such a perfect match for each other because their connection was just spectacular! This book was remarkably phenomenal and I will always love and remember Emmet & Blakely!
(PS. Can't wait for Holden & Sohpie's story that's coming up next 👀)

Top 5 read of 2022.

Hands down, one of my top reads of 2022. Simply phenomenal!!

Corinne Michaels knows how to add the perfect amount of suspense in this series.

I think the Rose Canyon series is going to be my top series from Corinne. Help Me Remember blew me away and Give Me Love is no different. I was so curious about this mystery wife Emmett had that just seemed to show up at the end of Help Me Remember with this crazy smart mouth. I was not disappointed in this story at all.
Freaking loved Blakely. She was hilarious and has such a quick tongue and doesn’t hold back.
Emmett had me swooning in book 1 and man, I fell hard for him here. Again, in top 5 heroes list for sure!!

“I know who you are when you don’t know yourself. You and I, though, we’re worth fighting for. There is no one else I want to be pissed off at.”

This story had a mix of marriage of convenience ,friends to lovers, second chance with enemies to lovers thrown in as well. And let’s not mention the suspense factor. Wowsers 😳 someone might argue it can’t be all those troupes…. But while reading it, I felt every single one.
One of my favorite things is that you can pretty much guarantee an Easter egg of some sort with a Corinne Michaels book, and well let’s just say I was one happy reader with those in there.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - can I give 10 ⭐️? Because this book seriously deserves them. I can’t wait for the audio to come out. I will be listening to that on release day because I can’t get enough.

Corinne did it again with another amazing story that will have you feeling every emotion!

Emmett and Blakey are wonderful characters with chemistry that is off the charts! I love their banter and the way they are together. This couple may have just become my favorite!

Emmett is the town Sherriff and is loved by so many. He has a heart of gold and so very loyal to the ones he loves. I love everything about his character!

Blakely is such a strong character and I loved her sass and attitude. Some of her comments will have you laughing. She has such a big heart and only opens it if you are worthy!

This story gives you all the love but with the added suspense and heart break. Corinne did a wonderful job with this book and you will need tissues for sure!

But one thing I can promise you is, this book is worth it!

This part of being a reader is always the hardest part for me; to sum up something so profound, in such little words without giving anything away. So please bare with me as I try to navigate my way through my review.

As I sit here hours later, I am still absolutely gobsmacked by the divine power of Give Me Love. I know, okay I thought I knew how Michaels writing works. This time around? I was thrown for a flipping loop. This story was not all Romance, no, no, no. It was so much more, with an in-depth look. Michaels navigated (in my opinion), such an amazing plot AND subplot without any confusion, but with pure heart. The twists and turns had me stuttering for a breathe, at the edge of my seat for what felt like ever. It played out like a movie in my head that’s how well this story flowed.

Emmett and Blakey are something I’ve not really seen done before. They are similar in so many ways, and trusting in ways I’ve again, never seen done before. It was like a breathe of fresh air to see the support that they both offered up.

Give Me Love is what other authors strive for, but can never quite reach. Corrine Michaels blew the top of a mountain off with this one. I definitely recommend.

Best of 2022

This didn't read as a typical Corinne book, now that isn't a bad thing and maybe you will see what I mean or not. I actually enjoyed the change of pace for once, I think the story flowed nicely now the content of the story wasn't relaxing by any means Corinne keeps you on your toes. You think wtf just happened?! This better not be real then next BAM change of course. Blakely and Emmett might not have the typical love HEA but what a HEA is it and it works for them!

Wow!!! Another amazing, suspenseful, tear jerking, laugh out loud book from Corinne!! Emmett and Blakely's story has so many twists and turns! I loved seeing these two fall in love and admit their feelings after being scared and apart for so long. Then just when they think they will live HEA, life takes a turn and they go through hell trying to find their way back to each other. This story kept me on my toes bc what I thought was going to play out didn't! I loved this story so much. You'll laugh and cry and hold your breath while reading this!!

I may never recover from this storyline!
The sleepy little town of Rose Canyon is anything but. From the nosey neighbors and the Six Who Knit to the meddling friends, this town is somewhere I would love to be.
Blakely and Emmett ignite whenever they are together, and I am here for every word. I have never read a marriage of convenience so intense. These two can deny their feelings all they want, but they belong together. The chemistry between these too lulled me into a false sense of security, and I was wholly unprepared for the curveball Corinne Michaels threw. At one point I put my kindle down and exclaimed to my unexpecting family "what has Corinne done? How is she going to fix this?" Thankfully I did not give up. I stuck it out and got the HEA, but I am still rattled.

My biggest mistake was falling in love with my fake husband. Preorder Give Me Love: https://geni.us/GML_Zon

Give Me Love picks up where Help Me Remember ends and is the perfect mix of suspense and small town romance. Emmett and Blakely were Army Rangers together and best friends. What started as a marriage of convenience, turned into more than Blakely was prepared for and she ran when he needed her the most. Blakely is now back in Rose Canyon to win Emmett back but to also warn him that he isn't safe.

Blakely is a badass army medic who takes zero shit. She can handle her own and get out of any situation with her training and quick wit. She is also terrified of love because everyone she has loved, she has lost. Emmett is the one thing she wouldn't recover from if she lost him. Emmett is full of swoon and so much more. That man loves hard. Even after everything, he still loves Blakely but he is going to make her work for it. He isn't going to give his heart to her until she is ready to receive it.

Their story was full of twists and turns and kept me on my toes. I loves the banter between them and how well they worked together as a team. I loved seeing all my favorites from the Salvation Society and watching them all work together. THis was another great addition to the series and I can't wait for Holden's story next!!

This book is going to take you on a very wild ride with Emmett and Blake. We first met Emmett in help me remember as he helped his friends. Emmett is the sheriff of Rose Canyon and does his absolute best to take care of the people in his small town. Blake comes to town to see Emmett and investigate a case given to her for her private investigation practice. Blake coming back into Emmett’s life turned his whole world into another direction. Their story is full of fear, love, loss, and hope. It’s about second chances and learning to let go of the fear and embrace the moments while they are in them. This book will bring out many emotions as you read and you will want to take the time to absorb the story free from distractions.

What a story for Emmett and Blakey!

Give me Love essentially picks up where Help me Remember ends. Emmett and Blakey were in the Army together and entered into a marriage of convenience that leads them down a road where neither one can come back from. Without giving too much away, choices were made, things were said and feelings were hurt. Blakey realizes what she lost in Emmett after the decisions she made that changed their trajectory and what could have been.

Blakey… I absolutely LOVED her! She is strong, independent, resourceful and she knows how to take care of herself! She can get out of any situation due to her quick witt and skill and thus us what Emmett loves most about her. Emmett… swoon! He loves with his whole heart and even though Blakey hurt him, he loves her at all costs.

Blakey has to fight to win back Emmett so that they can start new. Emmett doesn’t make it easy for her as he wants her to realize a love like they have… you don’t give that up and sometimes you have to let go of our insecurities, doubts and forget about what you could lose and instead live with what you’re given. When these two get to their next step, you realize they have an underlying friendship, after all they are best friends. Their banter was comical that added so much to their chemistry!

While Blakey and Emmett find their way back to one another, there still remains a ton of mystery behind what’s going on with girls disappearing. Enter our favorite surprise guests and my absolute all time favorite his name starts with an L that help Emmett and the gang solve for who’s behind the missing girls. Emmett and Blakey go digging where they shouldn’t to try and solve these crimes that leads to an upsetting and tragic part of the story. I really felt for Blakely and how this utterly crushed her. I won’t say anymore about that!

This was another fantastic book in this series bringing all of these characters together who provide the best cast in a story. Can’t wait to read Holden’s story!

Corinne Michaels, WTF? Another excellent romantic HEA story. Blakely and Emmett were funny and possessive for each other. I specifically loved the banter between them. All of Corinne's books are big family reunion and you don't want to miss. It's like party of the year. I can't wait to read more from Corinne and Rose Canyon characters. Most definitely worth reading it. I would recommend it to all.

I loved Blakely

She was strong and sassy and brave, and just a really great heroine. Funny too. She married her best friend, Emmett for military benefit reasons and its in name only. But these two love each other. She is afraid of loving someone because they either leave , cheat or die. So when they cross the line, she runs away. So Years later she comes back to him and working on a case and needless to say he's not happy and he wants a divorce. There's sex trafficking and evil lurking beneath his towns homespun facade. And he doesn't believe it. But it finally shows its face and the team is on the search for the bad guys. Its a great book. It dragged a little in the middle for me but it turned out perfectly. Loved the epilogue. But the top bad guy eludes them and thus the next book is coming. Looking forward to it!

Wow, just wow. Where do I start to do justice to such a phenomenal story without giving any spoilers……
I know I say it in every time I review a book by Corinne Michaels BUT She just keeps getting better & better. Every book, character & series weaves its way into my heart.

Emmet & Blakely are no different.

I loved Blakely she is witty, smart, strong & independent. I loved her sass, her crazy/smart mouth. She definitely doesn’t hold back. She can definitely hold her own.
She has a softer, more vulnerable side to her though that she only shows those closest to her. She’s guarded - she’s suffered so many losses in her life but she can’t keep her guard up with Emmett, their connection is just to strong to fight.

Emmett is completely swoon worthy, their marriage may of started out as a marriage of convenience but when Emmett loves, he loves with his whole heart.

Give me love is completely addictive, I was completely consumed by it. This is one of my top reads for 2022. An addictive, wild ride, rollercoaster of emotions Full of action & suspense. I loved all the side characters & the cameo appearances from previous series; it’s like meeting up with old friends. Rose canyon series has become one of my favourite series.

I honestly can’t recommend it enough.
Thank you so much Corinne & Christy for proving me an ARC I’m truly honoured to be part of the shark-bait team 🥰

Can’t wait for Keep this promise……. No doubt my heart will be stuttering all throughout

Where to start with Give Me Love??

This is the second book in the Rose Canyon Series with Emmett and Blakely (Blake). These two met and became best friends in the military. Both having emotional issues plus a secret marriage. Fast forward some years and Blake, now an investigator, shows up to try to patch things up with Emmett plus an ulterior motive.

Turns out there was more with Brielle's trouble and Blake is now digging into things that could blow the town wide open.

You are going to love this book as Emmett and Blake are really made for each other. Love the underlying mystery. Corinne Michaels truly upped her game with this one. Not to mention, so many of our favorites come visiting!!!

I cannot wait for Holden and Sophia's story next.

Corinne is one of the best at creating characters that are real life and people that you'd want to become your friends. Each story I read draws me in to not only the characters but the towns. I love how she ties in characters from other series which again makes the story feel like real life. Now for Emmett and Blakely. They are electrifying. There relationship is so fun to follow and will make you laugh, scream, and cry. Another great book in another exceptional series. I can't wait for the next book and Holden's story.

3.5 stars! Give Me Love is the second book in the Rose Canyon series and after loving book 1 and getting the setup for this couple, I could not wait to dive in immediately!

Emmett is the Sheriff in Rose Canyon and his estranged wife, Blakely, shows up in town when the story starts. Emmett and Blake were in the military together and became friends, which turned into a marriage of convenience (for military reasons), which slid into real feelings, but things tore them apart, and now with her showing up, it has turned into a second chance romance! Emmett is ready for a divorce but Blake wants to grovel and win him back. She’s also in town to investigate a missing girls case she’s working on.

“Sundays are good days.”
He leans close to me and kisses me softly. “Every day we’re together will be a good day, Blake. Not just Sunday.”

While this was a solid read, this story and the couple just never gripped me or grabbed my attention like the first book did. I’m not sure if it was the characters I didn’t feel pulled to or if the suspenseful bit of the story just didn’t work for me. I will say the audiobooks for this series are amazing, this one is narrated by Jason Clarke and Vanessa Edwin! While this book wasn’t my fav in the series, it still is a great series and I can’t wait for book 3 after the setup at the end of this one!

Holy heck of a mind bend, what did I just read??! I take this author's threat about spoilers seriously, but let me just say, it’s a good thing I’m ninety-nine percent positive that a romance read ends with an HEA, because this one was sketchy, and I really had no idea how all this…frenetic chaos would end. My heart is still in my throat and I’m still trying to catch my breath!

So here's the 411. Emmett and Blakely were in the army together and lived through unspeakable things. Somewhere among the flying bullets they thought getting married was a good idea. They were best friends and thought it would make their life easier while they served, but it ended in a big mess with her walking away.

Emmett moves back home to the small town Rose Canyon, OR, becomes the sheriff, and fends off all the advances from women in town. I mean, single, alpha, protector -- what's not to love? But then, plot twist. His estranged wife shows up in town, completely unannounced and, well, things are frosty. But she has a legitimate reason for being there and will need to work with Emmett to solve her own missing persons case. And then things start to get reeeeally interesting.

Okay, I loved Emmett and Blake together, and I’m always a fan of second chances, but that's where any resemblance to a second chance romance ends. Oh, my freakin’ gog, y’all, this one goes from zero to sixty in a nanosecond, then it's you-know-whats to the walls until the ride comes careening back into the station. Like I said, still catching my breath.

Dive into this one blind, make sure your safety bar is fully secured, and then hold on like your life depends on it. Sure, you'll be left dumbfounded (I still am) and won’t believe what you just read. But this story is the pinnacle of romantic suspense, so you absolutely shouldn’t miss it. My number one romantic suspense pick among some extremely stıff competition, it's also one of my top five reads this year, and I have no doubt you'll love it!

Emmett and Blakely Bennett in Rose Canyon.

“We’re more than that. You’re everything . . .” My heart stops for a second. “What?” I ask softly.
“I love you.” He breathes the words. “I love you, and I’m going to keep you . . .” Him

"I love this woman. I love her like I’ve never loved anyone else. I thought we were on the same page. I gave her my fucking heart, and she broke it. I’m not about to make that same goddamn mistake." 🥰🥰🥰

Chapter 7 😂😂😂

“I have regretted leaving every day since it happened. I thought of you, wanted to make it right, but I didn’t know how. I am sorry I broke us, Emmett. Please don’t break my heart after tonight. Don’t leave me.” (Her)
I lean down, pressing my forehead to hers. “The only way I’ll leave you is if I’m dead, and even then, I think I’d find a way back to you.” (Him)

“Do you have a girlfriend who is upset your wife is back in town?” I snort. (HER) “I don’t have the emotional capacity for another woman in my life. You’re like fifteen versions of crazy all balled in one.”😂😂😂(Him)

Chapter 32 😂😂😂

He presses his lips to my forehead before leaning his forehead there. “Forgive me. Love me. Let me make this up to you.” 🥰🥰🥰 (Emmett)

This is an honest review for an arc received.

Blakely Bennett, former Army medic turned private investigator, just waltzed back into Emmett’s life. Scared to live, will she take a real chance on them? She has multiple reasons why she’s in Rose Canyon, and things will get dicey.

Emmett Maxwell, sheriff of Rose Canuon, never thought he’d lay eyes on Blakely again. Still in love with her, he needs to decide if he will keep her in his life. Who will win this battle?

5 amazing and suspenseful stars! Corinne Michaels is the queen of ripping your heart out. I’ve said this every single time I’ve read her books. But no one weaves such a beautiful, heartwarming and crushing story like she does. This one is no exception. The group is still reeling from the loss of a loved one. Unsuspecting that Blake’s case intertwines with Brielle’s trauma, the gang is right back trying to solve who the master mind is. Can’t wait for Holden’s book, because that epilogue was amazing!

This is my non spoiler review and I'm not being a wise ass by being purposely vague: I can't say how much I loved this couple without giving anything away. You need to just trust me and pre-order so it's on your kindle the second its released! That way when you hear that ding of your notifications you can start reading at midnight, or whatever time the book hits! I PROMISE you will love Emmett and Blakeley! You WILL love the cameos and all the pages between 1- 388.. and that epilogue!!??

Seriously, Corinne consistently outdoes herself with each book! I don't know how she does it but I'm damn glad she does.

Loved this one so much I'm already hyped to listen to the talented Jason Clarke and Vanessa Edwin voice these two characters!!

“I don’t want to be afraid anymore.”
“Then let me love you.”

4.5 stars!

The second book in the Rose Canyon series, Corrinne Michaels had my heart pounding and my stomach in knots reading this dramatic and emotional (yet still funny) small-town, second-chance romantic suspense.

Emmett Maxwell is an ex-Army Ranger, and now Sheriff in Rose Canyon, and this book starts with a bang when we learn that Emmett is married to a bold and sassy private investigator who has just stormed back into his life. Emmett married Blakely, an Army medic, while they were on tour together. It was a marriage of convenience, but they were the best of friends until it all fell apart. Now it’s years later, and Blakely is working on a case which brings her to Emmett’s home town, and their worlds are about to collide once again.

I love a second-chance-romance, and this one is all wit and humour, and heaps of chemistry. They may be full of snark, but it is clear that there is so much emotion between these two. Though they ended badly, they loved each other deeply, Blakely just didn’t want to face it, terrified to love and lose the most important man in her life. So Emmett has spent two years being justifiably angry and trying to move on, despite still being very much in inconvenient, soul-deep love with his wife.

I hate her. No, that’s a lie. I hate myself for not hating her. I want to look at her and not want her.

“You are who you are, and so am I. I want more. I want a family and a wife. I want to love someone who will love me back.”

But being back in each other’s lives, Blakely wants to take the chance to figure out her feelings for her estranged husband once and for all.

“I just want some time. I want us to…try to be friends?” And maybe more. Maybe we can be everything we could’ve been.”

It’s emotional yet fun watching these two battle it out. They clearly feel so much for each other, but there’s so much anger, hurt and fear between them. They bicker and banter, and there’s an enjoyable back and forth as Emmett puts it all on the line.

“You were mad?”
“Yes.”
“And hurt?” I ask.
“Yes.”
“Because you love me?”
Blakely’s mouth falls open. “I…what?”
“I’ve been thinking about it, and it’s clear. You love me. You’re afraid of that, because you think something bad is going to happen.”
Her chest rises and falls, and then she looks down. “I’m always afraid that something bad is going to happen.”
“I’ve yet to hear a denial on how you feel.”

I love how strong Emmett is through all of this! He has lived through two years without the woman he loves, and he wants her back, but he’s not prepared to put up with game playing or stupid behaviour. He is honest and lays it all out, and I loved it!

“Let me know when you decide what you really want, Blake. I’m willing to give you love, but you have to be willing to take it.”

It’s a gorgeous journey as they find their way back to each other – raw, open and real, and in a way that is completely them.

“I love you, Emmett. I have spent years denying it, trying to will it to be different, but here I am – completely and utterly in love with your stupid ass.”
Fuck this woman owns me.

But we can’t forget about the whole reason Blakely came to town in the first place. Her investigation of a missing runaway ties in to events from the first book of the series, and it seems that the mystery goes deeper than any of them expected. Bringing in Emmett’s friends, and the boys (and girl) from Cole Security (featuring Liam, Charlie and Quinn cameos – yes!), their whole world is about to be upended, and my heart along with it.

OMG, it’s tense and exciting, and Corinne Michaels twists and turns this story all over the place. It’s unexpected and had me feeling so many things, anxiously flipping pages and desperate to see how it was all going to play out. I’m not sure I understand the character’s motivations as to why it all played out the way it did, but there’s no denying that is creates a whole lot of intensity, and I really like the way they dealt with it all.

“I want you in my arms, Blakely. I want to feel you, kiss you, hold you so I know that you’re safe. I feel fucking empty without you.”

The story ends in a good place, but there is more of the suspense storyline to be uncovered, and I’m sure that will happen during Holden’s book up next. And given that little glimpse into his story, I cannot wait for that one!

This is a great read. It’s exciting and intense, fun and witty, with great chemistry and a gorgeously emotional love story. I loved it.

4.5 stars.
