A Linguistic Philosophy of Language

Rate this book
Rastall teaches linguistics at Portsmouth University. He begins here with some simple "`Language' has been the common concern of linguists and philosophers for a very long time. It would seem that there should be a possibility at least that the overlap of interest might allow a fruitful discussion." He proceeds to deal with a wide range of topics for an audience the composition of which is not entirely clear (students, philosophers, linguists?), because the discussion varies wildly in its level of sophistication.
