This is a fantastic collection of horror stories. Sometimes you happen upon that anthology which chills you right to the bone and D.A. Decuzzi has pulled that feat off in spades. His story is superb and so is "Old Hag:" by Michelle Lane. Sort of reminded me in some ways of an anthology hybrid blend of King, some Ligotti, and even Ray Bradbury taking on America's practice of supernatural holidays. And there's plenty of the supernatural! A welcome alternative to so much of the self generated Zine hype we see.
Dark Holidays is a wildly creative and delightfully twisted collection that flips familiar holiday icons on their heads. Abbey Sweeny takes the sweet, comforting images we all know, like Cupid, Uncle Sam, and even beloved presidents, and reimagines them as monsters, demons, and horror-fuelled nightmares. The result is both eerie and entertaining, making each story a dark little treat.
What I enjoyed most was how the book balanced horror with humour. The stories are spooky and sinister, but they also have a playful edge that makes them fun to read.
An excellent read for the horror genre by various unknown authors. They used holiday icons--Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, and even the New Year's Baby--and placed them in horrific situations. I thought this was a very well put together.
